Kayzr · 25/01/2010 08:30

Morning,

DS2 slept until 5am and then he came into our bed for a bit more sleep. He isn't too bad during the day but at night he is really bad.

The damp is still really really bad. We have some cleaning stuff. But we are waiting as they are coming to look at it again. We have a huge puddle of water under the kitchen table that has appeared from nowhere.

Veggie, I haven't been ice skating in years. I used to love it but I'm not sure if I can still do it.

EffiePerine · 25/01/2010 08:38

Veggie@ enjoy your visitors . You're doing a fanstastic job keeping everything going in a new country and you're even meeting people and trying out the language - am in awe.

Kayz: is MrKayz starting on the job hunt again this week? Hoep something turns up soon. The books sounds a great idea btw - there's not much out there for dads.

Kiwi: sorry your DD has had such a tough time. What about flapjack type things for gettin gher energy up? If you're not keen on sugar you can make some by soaking oats and dried fruit in apple juice overnight, then cook in a little melted butter, shape into bars and leave to set. They don't keep that long but that isn't a problem in our house . DS2 also munched his way through a gigantic bowl of blueberries and cream (and a little squashed meringue) at the weekend.

Aub: I too am conscious of the havoc wreaked by two large babies! It's one of the reasons I would be unkeen on having another. Am also rubbish at remembering my exercises, but your post (and Veggie's) reminded me this morning.

We had a lovely quiet weekend - DH was n;t working so I managed to get the house cleaned to a reasonable (in my slatternly opinion) standard, which took some time! A friend came over yesterday as well whcih was nice. But now I have a very sneezy cold and am feeling sorry for myself at work (too much to do to consider any time off) plus I had to sit on the floor on a v crowded fast train this morning. I was sat next to the loo and after the train stopped at Stratford the door opened suddenly - I thought it was out of order but a commmuter had bagged it as the only seat remaining in the carriage! I shall remember that next time.

Good news is that thought the boys have been a bit coldy the wheezing hasn't got any worse. Good thing as they're booked in for swine flu jabs on Wednesday. DS1 has been practising with his toy doctor's set - 'roll up your sleeve - ouch! - you get a sticker AND SOME CHOCOLATE'. I had better be prepared .

EffiePerine · 25/01/2010 08:44

x-posted with Kayz: sorry DS2 is still coughy. I have been getting lax with DS2 and just bringing him into bed when he wakes - last night he fed at about 2 then slept till past 6. I'm actually happier for him to be in with us when he's a but coughy, as I worry about his breathing. Saves me getting up in the middle of the night to check on him!

Sybs: best wishes to your friend, must be rubbish going bacl to work after such an experience .

Daisy: glad the DH/FIL situation is resolved for now, hope you all have a peaceful week.

Guess what? We have Burns night emoticons .

Kayzr · 25/01/2010 08:47

My Burns night smilies are showing up as xmas ones.

EffiePerine · 25/01/2010 08:49

That def appears as a Burns smiley to me! I rather like the [bbiscuit] though it has no hair...

EffiePerine · 25/01/2010 08:50

try again [bbiscuit]

EffiePerine · 25/01/2010 08:50

DAMMIT

Kayzr · 25/01/2010 08:52

I was wondering why everyone was putting Xmas smilies up. It must just be me.

KiwiPanda · 25/01/2010 09:12

Morning all. Glad to report that DD is almost completely herself at last. Still not really eating much (and feeding from me loads) but I think that might be a side effect of antibiotics? If I recall they kill my appetite too. I've been adding extra butter to everything but she's being strange at the moment and turning down all the treats she really loves. Still she seems full of energy now so I guess I just have to relax, she's not going to starve herself and hopefully her appetite will pick up again when the antibiotics are done (one more day today!)

Invis You mentioned your DD had kidney failure at birth too - did they ever work out why? With DD they don't know what caused it, which is always a bit of a nagging worry at the back of my mind in case it's something they just haven't found yet! She's had numerous scans and it's nothing structural but they don't think it was dehydration either.

Can I ask about first words? DD says dadadada constantly still, and she sometimes says "mamama" when she is upset and wants me, but no other words yet. When might I expect one?

Who was reading Robertson Davies by the way? I remember from about a zillion posts back. I love his trilogies. And Mom was it you reading Wolf Hall? I LOVED that book. Is our book thread still going??

Oh, and my pelvic floor is definitely not what it once was... what are these cones though???

I never seem to have anything but questions for you all

Rubena · 25/01/2010 09:19

Kiwi - glad dd is feeling better. ds is the same dadadadadada and the occasional mamama and once said nananana but thats it. He understands so much of what I say ie: "do you want some milk?" "Lets have a lie down", "Daddy's home", "Lets have breakfast/lunch etc" "yogurt" but he just grunts in reply (not unlike his father)either high pitched squeal or screams if he doesn't want it

Aww Veggie thanks - yep scan tomorrow morning and then bloods straight after [faint] oh I hope not - I think i'll be fine!

Beans33 · 25/01/2010 11:34

Rubes - similar here - DD understands a lot of what I say, but I don't really get any words from her. We have dadada and mamama, but it's directed at everything. And she points at things and says - "na". No idea what she wants!

And Aubs - my pelvic floor isn't what it was. Usually ok, but one morning when I had a cold, I went to blow my nose before my morning pee, and to my mortification, felt pee running down my leg. AAAGH! Washed PJs very quickly then!!! And when I had a sick bug it was horrible as was vomitting into the loo, while wee squirted out into my pants. V embarrassing, but didn't really care that much as felt so rotten!

TheInvisibleHand · 25/01/2010 16:55

Just a quick post from me - am on the train back from a meeting and it doesn't seem worth starting anything else.

Kiwi - in DD's case the kidney failure was def dehydration, she didn't feed well, lost a lot of weight and her kidneys crashed - at one stage to the scary level of talking about poss need for transplants. She fully recovered and we had a couple of scans afterwards, but she is now totally discharged. But I guess we do clearly know the cause.

Oh, and it was me reading Roberston Davies - it is good stuff, just not so easy to fit in with small people around - I find I'm either ignoring them or not getting enough sleep, which is a bit rubbish just to get a novel in!

First words - DS' best trick is to go "cla, cla, cla" while clapping his hands. Very sweet. Otherwise a bit of mama/dada, but not much else.

Veggie - my name just comes from a newspaper cartoon I happened to have lying around when I first logged in "The Invisible Hand of the market place is giving us the finger". Not so imaginative on my part.

Pelvic floors - like everyone else really - not quite what I was, but not really "splashdown" problems. Have had once section, one not, not sure it made a difference.

urbanewarrior · 25/01/2010 19:09

Evening all

Sorry haven't posted in a while. Been reading though - and you've kept me entertained through a bit of a busy week. People's Friend .

So...I've done my presentation to the board, which went ok, DS had his third birthday, and party, and I didn't throttle my MIL. DS also had his first day at nursery school today and seemed to like it. I spent most of my time reading to the other children while he raced off to play with everything. Fingers crossed it goes so well the rest of the week. And once he realises that this is it - school every day. For years and years. Poor soul.

Small rant about MIL though. She just can't stop herself from making snide comments to me. All the bloody time. Although am trying to be serene. Is daft for her though because if she was nicer we'd see them more. Also still continues to buy food for herself. WTF? Is that normal behaviour when you go and stay with someone? It's not that we don't provide food. Grr. Also FIL came into our bedroom on Sunday morning when I was still in bed. For no reason. Zero sense of boundaries.

DD is still not 100%. And actually crying again now. Will be back for proper catch up later

urbanewarrior · 25/01/2010 19:58

Kiwi and Invis that must have been very frightening. Amazing how little ones can pull through the most awful things.

Aub my pelvic floor is ok but nothing like what it was - and actually it's running that I find the most pressure. I know I should do exercises but most of the time I forget/can't be assed. You've all motivated me a bit more though.

Kayz I hope DS2 is feeling better. I am they still haven't done anything about the damp. Did you write your stern letter? If all else fails worth writing to your MP as well - can give councils kick up the arse get things moving.

Effie our house is really messy. Am hoping to sort it out this weekend. We need to decorate the DCs room too. But keep wimping out.

Few words for us. Lots of babbling though. And although she did her first steps ages ago it's only this week that she's decided it's a better way of getting about and is ridiculously pleased with herself.

Shall we try and sort an evening meet up? Will start a thread and link

urbanewarrior · 25/01/2010 20:03

Meet up thread here.

Also Trace - how are you getting on?

And Veggie sounds like you're going to have a lovely few days. Put your parcel in the post today so you should get it soon.

Veggiemummy · 25/01/2010 20:20

Keegals ladies, pull up hold 23456 and release.

LadyThompson · 25/01/2010 23:09

Just running on - been so busy I can't tell you - and off to Reading in the morning and then the Midlands in the evening, then Cornwall at the weekend!

Pelvic floor - no leakage after 1 c section or any other thing but when I bounce on my mini-trampoline it sometimes feels as if I might. But nothing has ever happened. However, if I don't do more kegels next time, maybe it would, I don't know.

Haven't pregnancy tested yet, before you ask!

Huge love to all and so sorry for rush...Be good...

LadyThompson · 25/01/2010 23:12

Good luck for tomorrow Rubes and text me when you fancy meeting up. I am going in early now as I am having a lift in with DP.

Kayzr · 26/01/2010 05:28

Morning.

Rubs, hope your scan goes well today.

My pelvic floor isn't too bad. Sneezing is my only real problem. I do some pevlic floor exercises but only if I remember. I do them at work most of the time.

My throat is killing me. I'm really hoping it doesn't turn into a full cough and cold.

Hope everyone is well.

Beans33 · 26/01/2010 11:41

Ooh ooh! Newbie is kicking away in my tummy. Have noticed it a couple of times in last few days, but today is particularly active. I'd forgotten how weird it is, and yet how completely normal at the same time - IYSWIM?

How is everyone today? I cycled in this morning and a bloke got knocked off his bike by a lorry just behind me. He was fine, but it was a bit of an eye opener for me. I'm going to do this week and next on the bike, then stop London cycling. Will then walk half way to work and get bus the rest of the way twice a week. Should be good!

Kayz - hope your throat gets better.

Rubes - good luck!

x

Beans33 · 26/01/2010 14:08

Gosh, I've just been sitting at my desk reading heat magazine for my lunch break. Is that any better than People's Friend? I love it!

Beans33 · 26/01/2010 14:08

PS Where is everyone? You're all so quiet - I'm lost without you at work! x

sybilfaulty · 26/01/2010 17:09

Just sneaking on while the pasta cooks.

Beans, you take care on that bike my lovely. Nice to hear your baby is kicking. It gets less fun as they get bigger though and kick your bladder.

How was the scan Rubes? Did you meet Lady T? Hope cheerfulness was taken.

Hope cold did not come to anything Kayz. Any news on DH's job?

Hello everyone else. Try to get back on later.

Kayzr · 26/01/2010 18:51

Just popping on to be a ridiculously proud mummy. We've just asked DS2 where his nose is and he pointed to his nose. He also pointed to his feet when we asked where his socks go.

Beans33 · 26/01/2010 19:52

Oh Kayz - how gorgeous! DD is SO far from that. I'm starting to despair that she'll ever say anything.

I'm also v worried about her. I've taken her to the doctor about it and she's on quite a high dosage of laxatives, but DD has got the most appalling constipation I've ever seen. She strains for a good few minutes about 5 times a day and then about every other day, she does a poo. I have to pick her up because she's sitting on her bottom, which I don't think is conducive to a poo coming out. And she screams and screams and cries while the poo is coming out. It's almost like she's in labour. And it damn near breaks my heart every time I hear her. She grips onto me like a little monkey and is obviously in desperate pain. I just don't know what to do. It makes me cry just writing about it now. I don't want her to get scared of pooing, but I don't see how she won't be. And when the poos do come out, they are enormous and rock solid. I changed her nappy this evening after her latest one and her bottom was obviously still open with the next one and it was so big - no wonder she finds it so painful. Poor little bird. I'm just going to keep dosing her up with Lactulose and make sure she drinks lots of water and does lots of exercise. She eats loads of fruit, but has unfortunately gone off prunes. But not sure what to do. Does anyone else have any issues like this?
