Sept 08: last year they were cute little bundles that smelt of milk and vanilla, but now they've been replaced with a babyzilla!

A new thread for us as the last one was running low.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

ninja These things happen. Thought I was going to end up in a&e on weds am with Toby....the heavy wooden toy box lid fell on his head...dont ask me how he managed it! Lump on head the size of a duck egg Watched him carefully for the rest of the day but he seemed ok.

You CANNOT watch them every second of every day. Not possible. OK?

ninja · 26/03/2010 15:51

I felt even worse just after I wrote the message when I realised that she'd actually burnt BOTH hands and I hadn't even put one under water.

She was SO distressd (this was about 90 mins after it happened) and trying to wipe her hands as if she could get rid of it. I took her to the pharmacy but they just recommended pain killers. I hope she can sleep tonight.

I know you can't watch them, but I feel this was my responsibility.

digitalgirl · 26/03/2010 16:44

oh ninja it'll heal really quickly. The skin on the hands and face is the quickest to heal. My friend's ds tipped hot soup over his face over Christmas. It was hotter than if it had been boiling water. Massive scab over one side of his face, but it healed amazingly fast and he's not scarred at all. A little blister will be gone in a day or two and she'll never remember it.

Had a bit of brown spotting today. So remaining grimly realistic about this little bean sticking. Nothing since I got it (just before lunch) and no cramping yet so am hoping it was a one off. Will wait till next week to book gp appointment.

ninja · 26/03/2010 17:18

sorry for moaning and thanks dg

she's just woken up from her sleep and won't stop crying, i'm sure you're right it will heal fast i just ghate to see her in pain

lollipopmother · 26/03/2010 17:55

Last summer DD burnt her hand on the outside of the BBQ, DF shouted at me because she was hurt having a go at me about not keeping my eye on her so I ended up screaming my head off that why the bloody hell is it always my responsibility to look after her even when he's right there himself . Anyway, it came up in a massive blister but it was nearly gone the next day and was fine 2 days later, looked awful though

DastardlyandSmugly · 26/03/2010 20:25

Ninja please do the boasting anyway - love to hear about progress.

On the burn don't worry too much. Friend's DD was burnt by boiling water when a bag it was in burst all over her. She has no scarring at all and is fine.

ninja · 26/03/2010 21:40

Thanks again - she's sleeping soundly in bed now, which is the best thing for her.

I'll try and boast tomorrow when I'm not so tired but just a quick one about DD1 who got her 25m badge in swimming today. She's been able to swim that far for ages, but jsut started lessons again and she did it with proper strokes, I did feel very proud (well the parts of it I saw while trying to run after my little escapee toddler!)

I'm trying to write down all of M's words and I think she's made it to 50 plus over 15 animal sounds and a few songs!! She won't sit still in a highchair though

CappuccinoCarrie · 26/03/2010 22:48

ninja I know you feel awful and I can't make you feel better, but she will heal and you're a brilliant mummy ok? And well done to your dd1!

DG sending sticky bean vibes to you.

I've put my ds 18m picture up, taken one day late, sorry!

DastardlyandSmugly · 27/03/2010 07:23

Well done DD1 Ninja.

Funny I've been writing all DD's words down too. She's started using sentences which are really very cute. We have one of her friends over this morning for a playdate.

ninja · 27/03/2010 08:55

I wrote DD1's words down at 18 months too so I thought I really should for M.

She seems really cheery this morning and slept well (still sleeping through!!) so I think she's tougher than I would be.

Thenks everyone.

Now just got to confess to H who was coming back straight after work but in reality didn't arrive home until 2.45am!

DastardlyandSmugly · 27/03/2010 11:48

I just got DD up from her morning nap and she said to me 'Mummy my daddy's downstairs' . The use of 'my' broke my heart as it reminded me of The Railway Children.

DebiTheScot · 27/03/2010 19:43

That's impressive Dasardly. The closest we've had to a sentence is "kick Waw-wle" which ds2 said this evening as he put ds1's penguin onto a rugby tee to kick across the room! (ds1 has a penguin called Waddle and so ds2 calls all penguins Waddle)

Fingers crossed for you digi

Meglet · 27/03/2010 22:41

boomkarking

ooops, that is what I typed after a glass of wine .

ahem, bookmarking.

No sentences here yet. DS was a little chatterbox by 18 months but DD is way behind. She signs 'please' but generally we are still at the stage of screeching and pointing. She's very good at nodding 'yes' though.

digitalgirl · 28/03/2010 20:14

The closest we get to a sentence is 'more milk'. Think we've only got about 30 words. A few of them are multi purpose: 'more' can mean 'i want that', 'put these socks on me', 'read to me' etc.

DS is being a lot more playful and independent lately. Every month just gets that little bit easier. He's stopped the headbanging in the last week, hurray!

Spotting hasn't returned since Friday, so hopefully won't have a repeat of the early pregnancy I had with ds. Still very early days though.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/03/2010 20:27

Good news all round Digi

pmsl @ boomkarking

Nowhere near a sentance from ds. Lots of words but not joining them together at all. His new one today is - doah. No guessing that his father taught him that!

DastardlyandSmugly · 29/03/2010 10:03

Digi I had lots of spotting with DD and all was OK. They always said to me brown blood is fine, it's when it's fresh and red that it's more worrying.

imoscarsmum · 29/03/2010 10:40

Hello all, just popping in. [wonders where Hopefully has gone].

Been lurking but not posting.

Ninja don't feel too bad, things happen. C was attacked by cat yesterday. It was her fault for teasing him but he really lashed out - several cuts to her face, 2 that were dripping blood!
I'm trying to give C a bit more freedom to learn, which includes letting her fall over whilst negotiating the back garden, even on the gravel. It's hard.

Hope things go well dg - fingers crossed.

No huge development in talking here. She says yeah, no, hiya, basil (the cat) and lots of other different sounds that make her sound like an extra from District 9 . Not worried. I'd expect a 2nd child to speak earlier cos of listening to the older brother or sister.

Also, C seems to have stopped biting and hitting and has returned back to wantng to be close to her mummy. She came to me when the cat got her and has started holding her hands out for me. yay!
We also gave in and bought a fun pod. Yes it was £95 but as C is soo small and tiny (she's 25lb at 18m and only just fitting into her 12-18m clothes - I also reckon we'll get wear out of some of last year's summer clothes (9-12m) this year!), I think it'll have good use.

Yesterday she stood in it and helped me mix the cheese and carrot flapjack mixture at work surface height - was a lovely bonding moment. She also stands in it and draws next to me as I peel spuds etc.
It is really well-made and easy to assemble too.
One went for £70 on ebay 2nd hand, so I have hopes for a sale in the future!

DebiTheScot · 29/03/2010 13:12

Iom we have the opposite problem. DS2 doesn't get a chance to talk because ds1 does it for him. If we are looking at a book and asking ds2 what something is in it ds1 comes over and tells us!
Saw your photos of the fun pod and it does look good. I thought they were expensive but then if you sell it for £70 then it isn't at all.
Good to hear C has stopped hitting. DS2 is going through a hair pulling phase but hopefully it won't last long. DS1 doesn't have much patience for it.

Debs75 · 29/03/2010 14:07

IOM How tall is C? Robyn only weighs 21lbs and is 81cm tall. She still fits in most of her 12-18m clothes and a few of her 9-12m trousers as her legs are so small.

Words are coming along great, we have, yes, yeah, no, hi, hello(phone voice), bye-bye, billy, jade, andi, mummy, daddy, cat, dog, mica(dogs name) baby, sleep, bath, bin, nappy, happy, dinner, eat, snack. We also get a few strung together so might get some proper sentences soon.

imoscarsmum · 29/03/2010 14:30

Debs she's only 75cm tall (we weighed and measured on her 18m date), so quite short. Not surprising as DP and I are both short.
I put her into a dress from M&S on Saturday that is 12-18m and it is still a bit too big! When I say she is only just fitting into her 12-18m clothes, I mean she has only just got big enough to fit into them without them swamping her. Her trousers are generally 9-12m still and her 12-18m sleepsuits are way too long and she ends up dragging the feet behind her!

I'm not worried though - apparently at her age I was referred to a hv as my trousers kept falling off me I was so tiny (what happened....no danger of that with me now). Thinking about that actually yesterday i had to keep pulling up her 9-12m trousers . All normal though.

Very impressed with all the words!!

CappuccinoCarrie · 29/03/2010 20:08

Not pg this month
Feeling really low about it. I want a baby NOW, but didn't feel ready to be pg until January, and now its nearly April and I'm still waiting. Wish I'd been feeling broody 9 months ago The gap between my two dcs and the as yet un-conceived third one is growing gapingly big in my mind.

On the plus side, dh is back from his week in the states and mexico. I actually had a good week, and its really increased my confidence my parenting abilities by forcing me to stand on my own two feet. I missed him so much, but its great to have him back.

Ds has more words than I could possibly write down, but physically is still a bit behind, he still can't navigate the baby area on his own at the park!

CappuccinoCarrie · 29/03/2010 20:08

ninja how is your dd's burn? Hope she's healing well

DastardlyandSmugly · 29/03/2010 20:13

imo I thought DD was small! She's in her 12-18m clothes at last but they are long on her.

digitalgirl · 29/03/2010 20:30

carrie I know all too well how you feel. I kept reminding myself that every month that passed that I wasn't pg was an extra month ds had me all to himself. Its great that you feel so confident at parenting.

We're still happily co-sleeping. Wondering what to do when my mum moves in. Two bed house. She'll sleep in ds's room in a double bed so he can either co-sleep with her or co-sleep with us. But should I be thinking about him needing to sleep in his own bed or can I wait until he's old enough to ask? Don't want to force the issue at all with any more sleep training, but don't want to hold his development back by not giving him his own space. Or is that not really an issue for a couple of years?
