Sept 08: last year they were cute little bundles that smelt of milk and vanilla, but now they've been replaced with a babyzilla!

A new thread for us as the last one was running low.

A's 12-18 month clothes are still long on him, but he's chubby plus washable nappies so some 12-18mo stuff never fit over his backside! He's slimmer than he was at 12mo now he's trotting around.

carrie being broody is horrible, isn't it? I just got referred to consultant for lack of periods and then of course had one, but by the time I see anyone it may be an issue again. Gah. In the meantime all I can do is demand SWI with MrNC. Even if it leaves him no free time to do DIY in the bloody loft.

Hoping to get carpet in the loft ordered over Easter, so can start moving stuff up there - having A sleeping in the same room as filing cabinets and my printer is a right PITA...

ninja · 29/03/2010 21:14

Hi CC - yes she's OK. One of her thumbs is a mess - it had a big blister which popped and now she has a sore looking almost scab and loose skin. You can tell it bothers her some of the time, but she's easily distracted.

She had a bit of a temperature at the weekend, but was generally her usual sunny self.

Her much used word now is Stuck - but my favourite one is scooby dooby doo

Imo M has stopped biting and hitting as well. I did feel so sorry for poor DD1 who got the worst of it.

Got to go and watch Glee finish DD1's Easter Bonnet (sewing on some ladders and Rabbits )

CappuccinoCarrie · 29/03/2010 22:00

Best friend turned up with surprise flowers, chocolate orange and trashy magazine. Am an emotional wreck at what wonderful friends I have [sob]

imoscarsmum · 30/03/2010 16:10

I am very broody atm, and in a completed unrelated incident, I have also just made a fool of myself in work. I was convinced my car tax runs out tomorrow and as it's a company car gave HR a bit of a dressing down as they hadn't sent through my new tax disc and so I was going to be illegal come Thursday.
The woman in HR was very nice and called our fleet company who said it was actually due 31 May not March.....Doh! No excuse really when the bloody thing is sat on my driveway outside my office window.
Cue lots of humble pie eating....

Debs75 · 30/03/2010 19:07

Digi let him co-sleep a bit longer, from stuff I've read you won't harm his development by offering him comfort. If he wants his own space he will start to move away from you on a night and into his own bed. I think if you make a deal about it then he might cling even more IYSWIM.

Glad the fingers are ok Ninja

The weather is dreadful here today, pouring down and cold. We are off to Scarborough tomorrow with ds's school (why oh why?) so will probably come back like drowned rats and be in bed with colds all easter.

Pacita · 30/03/2010 21:32

Hi all, its been ages since I posted, but I am regular and consistent lurker. Congrats digi on your BFP! We are thinking that perhaps a second is a good idea, and will start TTC next month!!! I never thought I say this...

It's lovely to hear about all the babies kids and their newly found abilities. Diego does not say much at the moment, except for NO, and bye. He is tremendously giggly, active and curious (that's probably the definition of a toddler), and has only recently started with tantrums.

I am also joining the club of September 08 ladies on the property market. Our house is for sale, and we have put an offer on our perfect house. Problem is, the current owners need to move fast, and we haven't had any viewings yet. It'd break my heart to lose it, but I know ours is not the only offer.

ninja, Diego burnt his finger with the kettle. It had a huge blister for a day, which then burst and turned into a nasty scar, covering the whole of the left side of his index finger. It looked dreadful. I took him to the doctor to get some antibiotic cream to avoid infection, and she suggested applying vaseline on top of the antibiotic cream. Apparently, a moist (as opposed to dry and cracked) scab heals much faster. It worked! Hope she gets better soon.

He has been a consistent good sleeper, he goes to bed, grabs his dummies, I leave the room and that's it, but today it was really spooky. We did the usual go to his room, grab a book, read a story, I give him his dummies, etc... When I went to left the room as I usually do, he started screaming and crying. This went on for a few minutes, I went back in, gave him a cuddle, put him back, and he started screaming desperately again! I had to sit down by his cot, until he felt confident enough that I was not leaving, closed his eyes and fell asleep. He's never done it and I'm a bit baffled. I was wondering if perhaps something scared him at nursery, or whether it is perhaps to do with the antibiotics he's taking for his ear infection. Do you ladies have any thoughts?

Pacita · 30/03/2010 21:33

And BTW, sorry for the mammoth post. It's been a while!

digitalgirl · 30/03/2010 22:45

Thanks for the reassurance debs, he does still wake and have a bit of a grumble but a quick cuddle with 'mum' or 'daddeeee' usually settles him. Can't imagine having to open my eyes, let alone get up, every night to do that. And it really is so lovely snuggling next to him at night. In the morning he's happy to lounge in bed having cuddles till we're ready to get up.

pacita lovely to hear from you! I suspect Diego's bedtime showdown was more to do with being unwell than anything else. DS occasionally has big shoutathons at bedtime that can't be settled by anything. Usually teething.

Are they supposed to have 8 molars in total? Ds only has 4 (one on each corner). Dreading the next set coming through.

DebiTheScot · 31/03/2010 09:49

hello pacita good luck with the house selling.

digi they don't get the next set of molars until they are about 2. And then another set when they are about 6 I think. And then that's it until they start falling out and getting adult teeth!

DebiTheScot · 31/03/2010 09:51

hang on that might be rubbish digi, I've just counted my teeth and I have another set of molars not accounted for there! Plus wisdom teeth.

DebiTheScot · 31/03/2010 10:04

I was right. They usually get 2nd molars about 2-3 years, then another set at 6-7yrs, then all those (apart from tht last set) fall out and start again plus another 2 sets of molars and maybe wisdom teeth.

DastardlyandSmugly · 31/03/2010 10:36

Digi you can stil do the morning snuggle thing even if he doesn't sleep with you though. DS and DD come into our bed every morning and we have cuddles and play around. It's one of the best bits of the day.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 31/03/2010 13:03

Hi Pacita The going to sleep thing was probably to do with the ear infection.

Thank the lord that all of ds's teeth are through - until he's 2ish. Hurrah!

mamamuffin · 31/03/2010 19:36

Hi everyone
I need a best friend like yours carrie Try to keep positive lots more SWI for you.
Digi I have probably have mentioned before but I am a co sleeper, Ds 5 and ds 18 m. If you are happy to remain then thats great. I absolutely love it. But I have to warn you. From about 2 years it is impossible to seperate them into their own bed. They have then got the ability to climb out of a cot and have a strong sense of person much more than even now and would feel completely rejected if you decided to end it then. From experience from the age of two you have made your bed that you have to lie in and there is no going back. DS 1 now 5 enjoys the odd night with us but this is getting less and less as he now wants his own space. This is sad but also very lovely. He has never been left to cry in his room or cry himself to sleep. He trusts me completely and is now confident, independant and very intelligent boost Our time together co sleeping has been truly magical and I have watched every inch that my boys have ever grew I dont regret a second. Its a big commitment to co sleep and it is not for everyone. But for me its completely natural after all in a lifetime, its such a short time that they are small. Oh I have to stop I am getting quite emotional. Ill have to watch Iam not kicked off this thread onto a co sleeping one.

Debs75 · 31/03/2010 20:23

See DIGI co-sleeping will not harm him in anyway, and he will one day want his own space. I love co-sleeping with Robyn although it tends to be once a week or so now and we need a kingsize bed as we are falling out of the double.
Does anone use a pillow yet? She wriggles onto my pillow in a morning but settles fine in her cot without one.

Had a lovely sweet proud mummy moment today. Have been saying to robyn 'I love you' obvs for ages. Well today was snuggling with Robyn saying 'I love you' when she said back 'I do too' Felt very emotional and we had lots of kisses and she then said it to dp and her dsis. she understands so much and is now trying to converse, everyday she adds more words or signs.

CappuccinoCarrie · 31/03/2010 20:50

mama its high time you and I went out for a coffee and let little E and F have a play date!

My mum reckons ds said his first sentence, she thinks he said 'mummy got tick-tock' (while looking at my mum's watch, trying to say "wow grandma, you have a watch just like my mum's!". I don't think he said the word 'got' though - just 'grandma tick-tock, mummy tick-tock'!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 31/03/2010 21:21

All of your talk makes me wish we co-sleep. I would happy for ds to join us in our bed but he hates it. Even when he's been feeling poorly he screams blue murder if we try to settle him in our bed.

debs75 - funnily enough we introduced a pillow this week as we hoped it woulh help ease his cough. He's slept fine with it, however whenever we've gone into his room he's not actually on it

I had a cute moment with ds today. A friends little girl is about 4 months younger than him and they see eachother about one a week. I found them huddled in a corner together taking turns to kiss each other, then clap hands at how clever they were. It was so sweet. So innocent and lovely

OP posts:
Pacita · 31/03/2010 21:32

ILTMIMI the scene you just described is so sweet! It made me think of the 70's love is posters.

Phew, I have to report that things are back to normal today. D went down happily in his cot. The lady in the nursery said something rather enlightening, actually. Yesterday we went to do a second viewing of the house we're after, and she said that D probably felt that something was different. This combined with the fact that he is not use to the adjusted clocks, and being poorly make up the explanation.

As usually, thanks ladies for your support.

Pacita · 31/03/2010 21:32

Sorry, that should say "as usual"

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 31/03/2010 21:39

I LOVED those Love Is posters. I had a mug with them on. I remember wondering why they were naked?!

digi - have you read Three in a Bed? It's supposed to be a v good book about co-sleeping.

Oh, and ds seems to be sleeping in because of the hours change. I'm enjoying it while I can!

OP posts:
ninja · 31/03/2010 21:55

ILTMIMI how lovely. M really likes to kiss and cuddle others but she's quite chunky and it normally ends up more like a rugby tackle

We coslept with DD1 for quite a while and she still comes in the odd night at 6 (well the very odd night now). I have to say I'm quite relieved that M always slept better in a cot (well I coslept at least part of the night for a few months) as I'm not a natural co sleeper. I like my space and toss and turn in bed.

Off to add some 18 month pictures

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 31/03/2010 22:06

I know what you mean about the rugby tackle style of affection Ninja.

Another of ds' friends just doesn't do kisses. She freezes and he barrels up to her wrapping her in a bear hug. He then goes in for the kiss a little too enthusiastically and they both end up on the floor. She's cottoning on to this now and swerves as he comes towards her

bookmarking...

DD moved up from the baby room at nursery to the young toddler room today. It's the end of an era. The toddler room won't know what's hit it once she gets going .

DD has her inscisors (sp?) and first molars but still no canines. She actually had her first dentist appointment last week as the dentist checked her out after DS's check up. The canines are there, just taking a long time to come through, but she said it was ok for them to still not be through just yet.

ILTMIMI Sometimes I think it would be nice to have co-slept with my two, but they are way too wriggly and coming into mummys room means lots of opportunities to haul clothes out of drawers and get their hands on handcream / telephone / glasses or just try and squash me .

imoscarsmum · 01/04/2010 10:07

I have just realised I am ignorant about teeth. So, we have 4 front top and 4 front bottom teeth and 4 molars. No canines yet. Once we get canines is that it until she's 2/3?

I'm the same about co-sleeping. Love the idea but I like space and C is also a wriggler.
We introduced a pillow a few weeks ago and it's taken a while but she now snuggles down onto it every night. It really helped with colds too.
We're going to move her out of sleeping bags this weekend too and try her with a duvet, as (again pure instinct) i think she'd like to come out of her cot and into a propoer bed. Going to take it nice and slowly though.

becaroo · 01/04/2010 13:59

Hi all. Toby has been in a our bed since he was about 6 months or his own bed since last month. He is a big boy and and can easily and safely get out of either bed on his own although we do have bed guards on them too.

Toby has 16 teeth....I think he just has 4 molars left to get???? Is that right??? Might not be for a while though?

Am very excited as we have just booked to go to Longleat Center Parcs in june for a surpirse birthday gift for our ds1 He is animal mad and loves swimming, biking and being outdoors. Its his birthday the day before we go and we are not telling him til then Cant wait to see his face! Am going to book some activities too like horse riding and falconry......cant wait. Have never been to a center parcs before - has anyone else?? Any tips???

Our builder is coming on saturday to give us a quote for a first floor extension so we know what our options are.....trouble is we need to re-wire, get a new boiler and install new windows too....no idea how much that will be....gulp.

I am not very well - got a throat infection, glands up everywhere etc etc just in time for easter. sigh.
