Howdy all. Grumpy baby with a rash and a temperature here, so we're taking the Calpol express. Hope everyone is well

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.

Rant alert- you don't need to read this, just need to get it off my chest!

DH and I have a constant battle about dummies. I don't really like them but we have used one with BW when he's really upset, and when I stopped feeding him overnight we used one if he woke up. I like to think we reserve it for emergencies.

DH doesn't see what the problem is and will use one if the baby cries at all when he's put down. We've talked about it before and I've said I'd rather not use one automatically, at least during the day.

I put BW down for a nap today then went to the loo. He was shouting, as usual. By the time I came out again (number 1!) he had a dummy in.

AIBU to be annoyed by this? And why do I have such a hang up about dummies in the first place?? Maybe we should just use one all the time. It's a pretty good sleep cue. It just annoys me to think I have to get up during the night to find it once it's been thrown out the cot.

Sorry about that. Feel better already .

bebemoohatessnot · 17/01/2010 17:14

I had the dummy row with my dad when he was over right after the birth of Moo, so I understand the frustration of it all. We got around it by waiting til he left 3 weeks later (and pulling it out all the time) obviously you cannot do that
I think the biggest thing that my sisters have warned me about dummies is the reliance their kids have one them and how hard it can be to break them of it. It's a lot of work apparently (at least it has been with theirs).
Is there no further compromise to be had?

dawntigga · 17/01/2010 17:16

zulu can't help you with that as The Cub won't take a dummy - he has mummy instead, GRRRRR! However, I think it has more to do with a slight disregard for your wishes as the primary care giver and that's why it upsets you, it would me for that reason. Of course, I could be very wrong, I'm good at it

Quickie before I watch the other half of Inglourious Basterds.

I'm stuffed. DH cooked the tenderest roast chicken I have ever tasted. I'm pretty certain Holly said yum a few times.

King - I'm sure it will get easier for both of you. Your boss sounds like a good sort.

Auld - That's Conker's kilt business. I sent it to everyone.

Snogs to all.

ZuluWarrior · 17/01/2010 21:22

Tigga, I think you are very clever and right. Have calmed down now

bebemoohatessnot · 17/01/2010 21:31

anyone help Frekkles with a question about a possible tinned tomato allergy?

AuldAlliance · 17/01/2010 21:53

Apologies to those who don't read French, but there is a fascinating (and scary) article in Le Monde about "le maternage intensif", a new and controversial form of parenting infiltrating France, wherebt mothers (shock, horror) sleep in the same room as their babies, (gasp) carry them in slings and (yikes) BF them for longer than 6mths.
With a little bit at the end from a Professor saying that things are getting extreme.

Just off to post this elsewhere, I find it amazing!

TwilightTurtle · 17/01/2010 22:10

Hello all

Still trying to find a place to live. On a more entertaining note, we went out for a walk today and for a pub lunch, ended up in a posh gastropub where Orbit consumed scallops, black pudding, bashed peas, seared pig's cheek , roast pork, beetroot, red cabbage, kale and carrots with great enthusiasm. The boy was completely stuffed. I had all of the above plus sticky toffee pudding Also stuffed! DS1 did very well with his roast pork, bless him.

Sorry to hear of bad sleeping all round. Orbit is slowly returning to normal after bronchiolitis, his cough is nearly gone and he's sleeping better, although still a bit wakeful.

Dummies - I'm not a fan, but agree with Tigga that it's mostly about going against the other person's wishes rather than the dummy itself which makes it so annoying, probably. DP and I have a few things we don't completely agree on with parenting, luckily they're not too serious so I have to accept that he has his way and I have mine.

mrsgboring hope you have not smashed any more crockery today. My mum used to keep chipped crockery in a special cupboard so she could hurl it onto the stone patio when annoyed with my father . Very therapeutic. Speaking of which, I went to see her again this evening, she's had the stent inserted now and might come out of hospital tomorrow. Once the jaundice has cleared up they'll look at doing the surgery, as it seems she is a good candidate for it. So it will be within six weeks or so, probably. She's very tired from being poked and prodded, and on some fairly strong painkillers, so a bit woozy but in pretty good spirits.

Am enjoying the things you'd like to say at work thread. Very funny.

Night all, I'm completely wiped out.

TwilightTurtle · 17/01/2010 22:15

Wow Auld that article is kind of scary! Mind you my sister tells me that she is regarded as very odd in Paris for the way she brings up her children, and she's positively moderate compared to some attachment types on here!

What's a 'turbulette'?

bebemoohatessnot · 17/01/2010 22:20

Good to hear about your mom Turtle
And the great lunch and stuffing of your baby So cool. I would never touch most of that but that's because I know a lot of it makes me get an upset tummy.

AuldAlliance · 18/01/2010 06:03

turbulette = grobag

WrigglyGiggly · 18/01/2010 09:20

Morning all - still not remotely caught up with the thread.

Auld - fascinated by that article. Explains why my SIL is so politely intrigued by my parenting style. I don't deliberately follow the 'attachment parenting' ethic, but it seems to be what comes most naturally to me. It really surprised me that it is seen as so revolutionary.

Bicnod · 18/01/2010 09:31

So I now have two boys to look after - DH is in bed with norovirus (the winter vomiting bug) and O has a dicky tummy which I'm hoping hoping hoping won't become norovirus. DH works in a hospital and came home on Friday saying nv is doing the rounds - he was ok all weekend then spent all last night on the loo for one end or the other

bronze · 18/01/2010 09:32

Coursaget seems to be forward thinking over there yet wouldnt seem odd here at all. Though we could do with more mw who think like that

and we have to prepare them for going to school by ignoring their needs as a baby?

WrigglyGiggly · 18/01/2010 10:17

Bicnod - do you go to any local playgroups. They are often good ways to meey CMs and watch them at work.

BoffinMum · 18/01/2010 10:58

Allaitement a la demande????

C'est vraiement incroyable!!

PS I was in Paris V last week!!!!!!!!

bronze · 18/01/2010 12:19

who was it who bought those toy blocks
bebe was it you

I think you need to read this thread

bebemoohatessnot · 18/01/2010 12:37

Yeah I saw those watery ones and thought about them, but I also worried because I couldn't tell about the construction. I figured I give the others a try first.
Have to say Moo wouldn't be unsupervised with them as they're going to be living room toys (i.e. special toys to bring out while in the living room) which she's only in when highly supervised because of tv, hifi, playstation etc. Bit scary though.
I'll have a good look at them when I get them...I wonder if that's why my order has been paused... I expected them on Friday and when I've gone in now it says Mid Feb.
Thanks Bronze

And sorry abt mix up btwn you and Bicnod surprised I didn't get you guys mixed up with my own self because of lack of sleep...

bronze · 18/01/2010 12:56

s'ok there are worse things...

I can undertsnad the sleep thing. I keep making silly mistakes and this baby has been my easiets sleep wise though since he was ill ...ahhh

bebemoohatessnot · 18/01/2010 16:44

Right ladies. I'm usually like clockwork with my periods. And it was due this morning and it's not come... I did a preggy test with an old stick outdated this coming may... but it's negative....should I be going to the store and getting another one?
I've been feeling very peculiar the last week or so...
Thing is I know I really can't be because we've not had sex without at least 1 kind of protection since Moo was born...
Am I paranoid?

bronze · 18/01/2010 16:50

probably
either you are or you're not waiting wont change it so it depends how worried/impatient you are as to whether you get another test

TwilightTurtle · 18/01/2010 18:10

I'd wait

They can be much more irregular after a baby

Give it a few days and then test if you haven't had it yet

bebemoohatessnot · 18/01/2010 18:36

DH got a free upgrade to a studio at his hotel. Free mini bar. Pair of binoculars to look at planes flying over head. AND a massive tub.
He says I must come down tomorrow and see. He says there's other stuff too but he's not going to tell me

bebemoohatessnot · 18/01/2010 18:37

(now I'm kinda hoping it holds off)
