Sorry to hear about the deaths I've been very blessed as no person I know has ever died. Though we lost a family pet to freezing/drowning and I had that mc...

bebemoohatessnot · 14/01/2010 17:29

The jacket does not look mend able as I ripped it across the back (over the shoulder blades) and somehow up the slit in the back a little ways too. I guess because it was a smidge too small is why the back went. And the slit, well, I might have stood on it when I was trying to stand up. But I'm not exactly certain.

bebemoohatessnot · 14/01/2010 17:32

On a fun note I've taught Moo to share I just open my mouth and say please and after about 20sec she offers her food or drink Very cute. (bad for my figure though)

AuldAlliance · 14/01/2010 18:47

Tigga, oops, I responded in a post that I then deleted, and when I rewrote I forgot to rewrite the bit about how useless but uncannily familiar your DH's behaviour is. They just don't get some things, do they?
Have you wreaked vengeance?

Growing a tree? I don't even know whether that is good news or a very, very bad activity for a hd to be indulging in.

bebe, the CM idea is a brilliant one.
I was thinking about all this business where we compare ourselves to our mothers. I said something to my dad in October about how I didn't know how my mum had managed with three kids. My dad (who is not exactly good at putting himself in other people's shoes) looked utterly stunned that I would even suggest I might be doing less well than her. He pointed out that she had been a SAHM with a cleaning lady who came 2 to 3 times a week.

I think time to yourself is totally vital. Go for it.

TwilightTurtle · 14/01/2010 18:56

I second that Auld - I thought my mum was Wonder Woman until she pointed out that from child number two onwards (she had five) she always had au pairs and cleaning ladies who came at least weekly.

Speaking of mothers, mine is out of surgery and awake. Apparently the result of the op is good news (they were going in to have a look at the lump) but we'll hear more in the morning as Mum is too woozy to take in information right now.

bebemoohatessnot · 14/01/2010 19:03

Good news Turtle. Here's a night of healthy restful sleep!

bebemoohatessnot · 14/01/2010 19:07

My mother had five children and never had cleaning ladies or au pairs... Though I think we were allowed to run-a-muck far more than she liked and our house was hardly ever clean. But I remember it being a good life when it was all of us girls in the house...
But how did she cope? I just don't know what she did when she was feeling ill and we were running about and needing things and dad was away. I don't ever remember her being ill. But she must have been.

Feierabend · 14/01/2010 19:57

My mum was never ill, not until I was a teenager. Her secret, I think, was just not bothering with cleaning, or cooking nice things - she had a repertoire of about 4 dishes that she'd cook over and over again. Also, we slept through from 6 weeks old, we had a bottle every 4 hours during the day rather than an infinite number of breastfeeds, and my dad came home at 5pm every day. Now, if my DH came home at 5pm and helped with bedtime every day, I'd be the most relaxed lady in the world. Honest.

Feierabend · 14/01/2010 19:58

My brother and I were just such good babies

bebemoohatessnot · 14/01/2010 20:27

lol

bebemoohatessnot · 14/01/2010 20:36

Well I've got a tummy bug or something. But when I'm not throwing up I feel okish. Just tired and run down. Might be my headache.

ZuluWarrior · 14/01/2010 20:44

Here goes kids...

Puzzle, in answer to your question year ago, I am on the mini-pill still. Can that make you bleed for ages? AF still going strong. And get well soon!

Mrsg comforting to know that shrieking is not just a feature of my baby - thanks!

Feier - I haven't read what everyone else's written yet but I am constantly amazed (and horrified) at how angry a baby makes me. I have never had a temper. I have (more than once) thrown a bottle across the room and have kicked things and screamed. You are human, exhausted and doing your best. Do not be ashamed.

Bicnod, thanks for asking. Haven't been to the doctors yet. Am putting it off. You will find a lovely CM. But you'll always worry. BW has been going for 2 months now and I love her but there's always a niggle. You wouldn't be a proper mummy if you didn't have it.

Bebe how's it going? Wise words from the other ladies.

TT fabulous news that your Mum's been and had her surgery. So horrible not knowing when she was going. ((hugs)).

Bebe sounds like a bug. If you had a head injury you'd be vomiting, confused, maybe a bit sleepy and a headache. Hang on - you probably have all of those things! But you know what I mean...

AA can't think of anything specific but hello and I'll call on you if I ever need a restaurant.

I've been at work all day. Satisfying. BW has been on good form and only minor screeching so haven't felt the need to launch him out a window. Went to see my friend's new baby too. I am soooooooo broody. Is it just me? .

DH and I are going out on A DATE next week. I'm very excited. Good friends babysitting. I think we need it actually - there's been a fair bit of grumping from both of us the last few days..

mrsgboring · 14/01/2010 21:30

Tigga I'm sorry I missed you off my catchup. Poor Sam, hope he's okay now.

Bebe how appalling of your neighbour. I ROFL at you checking yourself for emerging teeth.

Bronze yay that Nia's on the mend

Zulu y'know I don't think I am broody at the moment. I don't really want to be pregnant or have a baby (though Edmund is so cute I don't want him to grow up too fast, something I never really felt about DS1). But it also terrifies me I might have had my last baby. I don't know if I can live without another. But DH reckons we're done so I guess we are. Sigh.

TT glad your mum had her op and that it's looking positive at the moment. Fingers firmly crossed.

Bicnod drive in the snow was perfectly fine thanks for asking. I'm going to get the dentist to look at E's teeth.

Our garage conversion is coming along nicely. I can't wait to get all the junk back out of my house, and get our new room set up (painting and flooring to do though which will be a chore). Tired and feel rubbish tonight though - got period back and it's horrible.

Off to watch another episode of House - last one I beat House to a diagnosis. A first for me

dawntigga · 15/01/2010 08:23

You all know I was poking fun at myself - right? I'm not really that self absorbed, well not often anyway

bebe As TT said you could be depressed of you don't feel that you are fully depressed could it be SAD? Get a daylight lightbulb and see how you get on. The cm idea borders on genius btw! What store did your coat come from?

Fei if I had my way I'd check every 5 minutes on Cub, but I manage to control it - just! It annoys me when people say pfb etc. esp when somebody in the family has had a child who died from SIDS etc. Just who the hell do they think we descended from? People who checked frequently and looked after their children of the ones that didn't bother????? Fei/Bronze do what you need to do to settle your own mind!

Am sorting out my work room for the big move - my work room to a small bedroom. Big wardrobes into our room from small bedroom. Sams stuff into my old work room. Am very he won't be in our room anymore and very I'll be losing my nice big work room.

Have had some VERY good ideas on how to avoid going back to work - lets see if they work!

MightHaveSewnAnotherPairOfRobin'sBoxersUpAcross1LegWithAnInvisableSeamTiggaxx

bebemoohatessnot · 15/01/2010 08:45

Tigga Lol at your sewing project

my coat It's on sale! But they don't ship over here. And it'd be far too expensive to have it sent in the mail.

bebemoohatessnot · 15/01/2010 08:49

Has anyone found a bowl anchor/suction cup bowl which works really well? dd has figured how to unwork the one we have. I think it's a tomme tippe one

bebemoohatessnot · 15/01/2010 08:50

wait it's a munchkin one

mrsgboring · 15/01/2010 09:42

Tigga of course, but I did miss it on the catchup which was silly of me.

Bebe I fear there is no suction bowl on earth worthy of the name. I tried lots with DS1. Happy to be contradicted...

But then it amazes me sometimes the lack of ingenuity in other people's children. We have a toybox at church which reaches just below an adult knee. Everyone else uses it as a barrier to keep the children in (combined with a pram parked in the way). I don't understand why it works for them because on ours it just means the child escapes in the blink of an eye and the pursuing adult cracks their shins on the toybox, becomes entangled in the infernal pram and tries not to fall over/swear while child runs cackling round the church.

bebemoohatessnot · 15/01/2010 09:59

lol MrsG
Moo's a bit like that too.
thing is she a 'watcher' she watches you all sweet and innocent like, perfect little angel sitting there to see how the 'thing' is accomplished, then when your guard's down because she's never shown interest in the thing , ever, she zips over there and opens it or moves it or goes around it like mummy and daddy do... Dickens.
Case in point the gates. We have two that have the little button on the side which you push then pull up the catch and it swings open. The little devil child pushes the button and lifts the handle. The only thing that stopped her from getting the gate open proper is the fact that you have to lift the gate slightly to get over the threshold. And it's a very good thing I found out while sitting on the toilet with the door open so I could see her to it and not after she had tumbled down the stairs...
So we've taken gates out of the mix and close the door to the room we're in. And I take her with me where I go. Up and down and up and down the stairs when I'm doing housework.

Feierabend · 15/01/2010 09:59

Good morning. Before I catch up, a question to Gui, if you are around. Last time Hazel was in hospital with croup, we were given some Dexamethasone (oral solution) to take home so we could give her a second dose during the day. There is some left and on the bottle it says expiry date 10 March 2010. I have just kept it in the kitchen cupboard. Should she get croup again before March, would it be okay to give her this medicine? Same dose as prescribed last time, obviously? What do you think? I am only worried about it going off really. Thanks so much!

gingersarah · 15/01/2010 10:06

Oh no, everyone is depressed!

bebe - maybe your coat can be mended by a dry cleaners that do invisible mending? That fall sounds horrible. Things like that do leave you shaken up for a while even if no one was badly hurt. I am furious that all this happened just because you were the one that cleared the snow. And I am annoyed that you had to to this when you are not well. GRRR.

I was musing on how times change as well, in terms of motherhood, and I think we are all trying to do far more, alone, than was ever thought normal. While middle class women would have had help of some sort at home, or at least sent the washing out, working class women would have had tighter networks of friends and local relatives, so although they would have had to work very hard, the sense of being completely exposed, the absolute relentlessness, may have been less (you could have a few hours "off" if you were sick, although you would have to return the favour some other time).
And if / when we do go back to work, many of us are working in roles that would traditionally have been done by men with whole entourages of back-up (wife and domestic staff at home; far more robust adminstrative and support staff in the work place).

I have such mixed feelings about going back to work. I can't afford them, but I have them....

Anyway, everyone should have a cup of hot chocolate and some biscotti to congratulate themselves on being such superwomen. Have a good day, all fanjo warriors.

Guimauve · 15/01/2010 11:12

Fei - the solution itself would be fine to use up until that date, as long as you can't see any particles in there (it may precipitate out if it gets very warm, though imagine that's unlikely to have happened ). Wouldn't give it without medical advice though (not sure if that's what you meant), it's a fairly potent steroid.

Wahey, Puzzle, your sex-life made the round-up

OP posts:
Feierabend · 15/01/2010 13:15

Thanks Gui. In Germany they give you steroid suppositories to keep in the house for when your child gets croup, why can't they do that here? I have those too but would much rather not use suppositories!

Feierabend · 15/01/2010 13:17

what, round-up, where?
