This quiet patch is bizarre!
My kitchen bits arrived today - yaay, they came at 8.45 (delivery slot 8-12) so I'm impressed. And everything is there. My handyman can't put it in till Monday though. I will definitely post photos on facebook!

Amber Iestyn sings too, 'ee oo ee oo ee oo AAAAAAA' (twinkle twinkle doesn't have a Welsh version) and is learning lots and lots of words for everything. His most cute thing at the moment which makes everyone laugh: he learnt the word pi pi (pee pee, wee wee whatever! I have the Welsh form). He now occasionally stops what he is doing, says pi pi, and points to his nappy! This is a Good Thing, I think, because he seems to know just before he's doing a wee. But, he also does it just for fun - and last night, he was not wearing a nappy and said pi pi, and I said are you doing a wee? and he said no - his 'no' is lovely and regretful sounding every time! He also sings in his cot and this weekend our aim is to record his happy morning sounds.

A digression: when Spider came round we were discussing early wakings etc and she said she was envious of these people who claim their babies wake and are happy. Thing is, I didn't know until recently that not all babies do this! Some wake and cry and scream. Which explains why I failed to get the whole early waking thing - my thought was 'well just ignore them'. Which I couldn't do if Iestyn cried. So now I have mega sympathy for everyone with early wakers.
Iestyn wakes at around 7am, technically not early unless you're a lazy bint hardworking woman like me. But I get a shower and get dressed whilst he sings in the cot.
Did anyone see Wife Swap last week?? It was really good. I don't normally watch it but had to see it to the end.

Right, I'm rambling now. Kitchen accidents involving glass are my big fear. And I can't wait to see your kittens, Amber!

spongebrainbigpants · 04/03/2010 14:18

Just quick post to mark my spot - hopefully everyone is out enjoying the sunshine .

A sings Baa Baa Black Sheep all the time which is so sweet .

He is banned from the kitchen, much to his disgust, but our kitchen is too small from him to be in it safely - although a few months ago he did get in and throw both the cats feeding bowls across the room, which is another good reason not to let him in!

Even more frightening, last week we were around a friend's house and he wandered into their kitchen and helped himself to two knives from their cutlery drawer - and I mean steak knifes . I had just assumed her kitchen was childproof . V bad mummy .

abdnhiker · 04/03/2010 14:50

sybil I have a huge soft spot for Bichon Frise puppies! My brother and family have one and she's such a sweetie. DH is more of a big dog fan though and he's not keen on us getting a dog at all because of the responsibility. I'm sure we'll have one when we retire though.

Amber sorry the kittens are such wee troublemakers, they sound so lovely though.

DGT no, your post didn't come across as insensitive at all - and I know what you mean about feeling like I'm not a good wife.

DH is away in Norway and I'll miss him even if he is being a total muppet lately (thanks neenz - I like this word to describe him. He's upsetting me a lot lately but I know we'll be okay eventually and I still love him). I'm exhausted today - can't wait for 7pm!

ktpie · 04/03/2010 15:26

Quick hello from me, I'm still here but not really got any news. J has a cold and has been in a bad mood so we have been taking it easy this week.

Now Henry is crying so I'd better go!

abdnhiker · 04/03/2010 15:40

missed a page - Fraser only sings Bob the Builder. I blame Duncan.... But seriously - Duncan wasn't singing until he was 2.5 - and he's totally fine, I worry people are thinking that all kids talk this early.

spongebrainbigpants · 04/03/2010 15:43

When I say singing, he's not saying any words just kind of humming the tune - difficult to describe really! I sing it back to him and his face lights up - he's such a cutie at the moment .

Amberc · 04/03/2010 15:53

We get ee i ee i o for old MacDonald and wiggle wiggle liddle dar and then silence while I sing the next bit and Luke will then fill in bits like 'are', 'sky' and 'high' Gawd bless him!!

How exciting about the kitchen essie - bet you can't wait for it to be finished. I had to wait in for the new wine cooler to arrive today - anytime up to 4 pm. It's 3.45 and they've just gone the bastards.

I am crapping myself about my driving test already and it's in 2 months! There is a mega hideous set of roundabouts with trams all over the place and lights and give ways and it's a 40 mph dual carriageway - I thought I wud have a heart attack today. I am still debating the roundabout code - please help. if you are approaching the roundabout you should be in the lefthand lane if going left or straight on and the right if going right. What lane do you go in if the roundabout has an extra exit on the right hand side? so the third exit of a possible 4 - does that make sense? Even my instructor said it's a grey area.

I accidentally woke Luke up at 3am and then couldn't get him back to sleep. What an eejit. I was putting a bottle in his cot like I have started doing now (so he drinks it when he wakes at 5 and then sleeps until 6.30) and I tripped. I had to give him the bottle in the end to get him back to sleep and he still woke up at 6 wanting to watch Dora the Explorer which he is mad on. Still maybe he might start saying ola to me soon!

Ha ha - Rolf I see a Youtube clip coming on!

Sponge - how frightening about the knives! I worry about Luke picking up nails as there are millions all over the place here with the builders not picking everything up.

neenz · 04/03/2010 16:31

Grr - just lost a massive post!

Amber, if there are 4 exits off a rbout and you go off at 3rd I would say get in right hand lane, especially if there are two lanes off the 2nd exit iyswim. If it's a dual carriageway and the 2nd exit is the continuation of the dual carriageway, there will be people in the right hand lane who will be taking the second exit, so you shouldn't be in the left hand lane cos then you'd be in their way. I think you could never be wrong to be in the right hand lane when taking the 3rd exit so I would go for that! Your kittens sound like a nightmare - I am definitely not getting any cats ever! Kids wreck your house enough as it is

Rolf, how annoying about the suggestive dancing - do you have to be really careful what you let them watch? It wasn't like that in the days of bananarama and Tiffany!

We have 'Twinkle twinkle star howaa... (they don't say 'little') and 'baa baa back seep haboowaboo' which I think is pretty good!

Sybil, how annoying about the wine! Our child-height wine rack in the kitchen is now empty and all the wine lives in the garage, at least it stays cold there.

Abdn, glad you weren't offended by 'muppet' - sometimes it's ok to slag off your dh but not for others to do it! I am sure he thought he was doing the right thing and that it would make you feel better - the muppet

PiggyPenguin · 04/03/2010 18:12

Amber I would definitely go for the right hand lane. As Neenz says, you would be in the way if you use the left and people are using both lanes to go straight across. I didn't pass my driving test until I was 5 months pg with dc2 so I know how horrible and stressful it can be. I would cry the night before my lessons, I hated it so much . I still only potter around the local towns in the car and don't do motorway driving as it makes me too nervous. I can take the kids to the dr's etc in an emergency though which was my only real driving aim.

J does 'twinkle' fingers and random humming to get me to sing twinkle twinkle. Works perfectly for him!

We don't have a garage anymore ABDN, we knocked it down to build the extension, otherwise I would stick the wine in there. I only hope he has learnt his lesson, he was a bit shocked and stressed when it broke and wine gushed all over his legs. He did smell nice though...

PiggyPenguin · 04/03/2010 18:14

sorry, that wine/garage thing was actually to Neenz

spongebrainbigpants · 04/03/2010 19:20

Love the idea of a toddler smelling of wine .

V impressed you passed your driving test when pg - do you know you can do special motorway lessons if it's something that's important to you? I'm very lucky in being a confident driver and I don't know how I'd manage without it tbh .

Amberc · 04/03/2010 19:48

When I pass my tst I am going to do pass plus which is for motorways. Plus you get a discount off your insurance. I am so used to regular single carriageway 30 mph roads that when i hit a 40 mph or god forbid, more I panic! Roundabouts and reverse parking are my nightmares.

EssieAmma · 04/03/2010 19:50

V. keen driver here! Learnt when I was 15!! I'm keen on roundabouts too but nobody else around here is. Right hand lane is correct. If you like, we can drive a local route when I'm in London, do the scary roundabout (I can drive or you can if you want!) and go over stuff. DH is also really great because the work he does means he knows all of the finer points of the highway code.

Sybil should we be concerned about the amount of wine sloshing around your messages these days? (Maybe because I like drinking wine a lot.)

963 messages people! We need that new thread!

Amberc · 04/03/2010 20:15

When are you next in London then Essie? Easter right? When is that this year? My tst is on 28 April...

spongebrainbigpants · 04/03/2010 21:13

Easter is first weekend of April x

New thread here new thread

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 04/03/2010 21:41

sybil bichon frises are not hypoallergenic in my experience - an old boyfriend's family had 3 of them, and I used to have streaming eyes and runny nose even after antihistamines. And they are very yappy.

There is much singing here - also Baa Baa and Twinkle, as well as one about a bubba-shy (butterfly)
Everytime we get in the car there is also demands of "sonnns, sonns!" (which has to be the same bloody CD from the early learning centre that she got from the big birthday club last year - tried to get a new one of musicals - cue much yelling of NO NO NO sigh - back to 5 little speckled frogs again)

Current topic of amusement here is hedges. If we go out for a walk in the buggy, Charlotte will give us a running commentary as we pass each house

"hedge".... "no hedge"... "big hedge"... "pretty hedge" (a yellow one FYI!) "no hedge"

enough procrastination - back to reading about brain tumours. great fun.
