myjob.... update on how emma reacted to the swine flu jab is that she had a slightly raised temperature for a day and was still a little out of sorts the day after that (nothing bad enough for me to keep her at home, or for nursery to even call me). She does deal very well with jabs in general though and hasn't really had much of a reaction to any of them (inc MMR).

Wouldn't want to try to advise you, but I can tell you my logic and that is that although she's a very robust little girl, she gets exposed to a lot of germs at nursery, so i figured she may be more at risk of infection. That was the clincher for us as we were very much in two minds. you just don't know whether its really something to worry about or not, but I also think there is a reason why this age group is one of the ones singled out.

hope that helps a bit!

KSal · 20/01/2010 11:13

ooh, you've posted again while i was typing - sounds like you've made your mind up! Hopefully they will breeze through it

Just a quick one today.
W is on pennicillin for chest infection. Lots of poo everywhere and not much sleep for us!

Star I'm sorry but your friend aint no friend.

Myjob I def would get the jab for Dc if they had history like yours. HTH.

We are off to France at the beginning of March snowboarding. The girls love skiing. We shall see how W gets on with all that snow. He has had a bit of practice lately.
Jenwa I shall look for your hair later

Ladies I bought some chickpeas this week. What on earth do I do with them???

StarExpat · 20/01/2010 13:32

jenwa hair looks lovely
Ronshar - I put them in pretty much everything. I like chickpeas a lot.
Last night I put chickpeas in brown rice with some of tescos sundried tomato and mozzeralla vegetarian sausages, which were cooked in with a bit of passata and some herbs. Dh thought it looked disgusting. It was delicious... not sure how nutritious, though but yummy!

50ftQueenie · 20/01/2010 14:04

Ronshar - Hope poor W gets better soon. The antibiotic poo is horrible isn't it? My brother has just gone to Canada for 3 months snowboarding. Jealous? I put chickpeas in lots of things too. It's nice mixed with couscous or in curry. They are very tasty. Yum! (going to have chickpeas with salad at lunch)

Jenwa - Wow! Your hair looks fabulous.

Myjob - Good luck later, try not to worry. It's one of those situations where you'll probably never know what the right decision is/was so the right decision for you is the one you feel is best for your babies.

It's very cold today and apparently there is more snow on it's way. Yay

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2010 14:24

aubergenie - it switches to hold after however long I set its timer for. It's a bit bigger than we need, but is one recommended by Which? Dh broke the lid on my old one - it survived a trip to france and back, and he dropped it coming in from the car .

Myjob - do let me know if you are near Bude the same time as us. And do please recommend any places to visit/things to do down there that you know of, esp cold/wet weather ideas!

Hope W is better soon Ronshar.

Agree that for your dc the jabs are a good idea myjob. Apparently they are only giving half doses now, instead of the full doses that were being given at the beginning, and children are thus not reacting so badly to it.

star - surely the chicken we eat is the flesh, not just the muscle?!

Hey all, am posting from the office again (aren't I good??)

CSWS, woo 17 weeks already! I remember when I was PG I was checking the development every week, I'm guessing the urge to do this fades slightly by the 3rd?! The cottage looks lovely too, unfortunately we're pretty much destined to do nothing but camping this year due to our new tent investment.

Poppy did the same thing again last night, going on and off, then wolfed down a cup of milk in 30 secs flat and went to sleep within 30 seconds Would she do that if it was just teething CSWS? It was my intention to carry on for the first few months of nursery to help ward off the bugs that inevitably come, but she's already got a bit of a cold so I guess my milk isn't that great

I really have no idea about the swine flu jab either, what's the general consensus on here? Has anyone read any good threads elsewhere on MN about it?

I've just met up with a solicitor friend of mine who I met through NCT meets at home but she works round the corner from my office, our DD's are 10 days apart so it's really nice, she started back at work a few months before me, it was really nice to speak to someone who was a few months further down the line.

Anyway, better go, I'm due to finish at 4 anyway!!! I'm off to stay in a hotel in Chester tonight ready for the funeral of my aunty tomorrow, it's only 30 mins away but all my relatives are arriving tonight from around the country and it avoids the rush hour.

Speak soon!

Honeymoonmummy · 20/01/2010 14:36

Ooh I didn't notice it was in Bude CSWS, that's not too far from ST Ives is it? We stayed at a lovely site there a few years ago and might go back in summer, what week are you going to be there and we may book to coincide...

Honeymoonmummy · 20/01/2010 14:37

Oh and chickpeas- put them in a water bottle to make a rattly thing out of them!! [culinary genius emoticon]

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2010 14:40

She might hmm, but it might be that she just likes having cows' milk now. I was thinking about what I'd said about it being rare to self-wean this early, but then I thought that it's actually not really self-weaning, because you have introduced cows' milk at other feeds, so it could genuinely be her decision to have them all that way from now on.
And just because she has a cold doesn't mean that your milk is no good! She might have a worse cold if she wasn't bf .

It's about 1.5hrs to St Ives, but you could pop to us on your way down! We are going on 10th April (sat).

csws ew that doesn't make it better sorry.

two little girls in my class just stretched their eyes with their index fingers to a mayalsian boy in my class singing "haha i am japanese!" grrrrrr. The boy is new. These kids are usually so nice...
They most definitely know it's unacceptable now, though! . After explaining why it was totally unacceptable and telling them off for it (away from the little boy of course), I ended by saying (I just couldn't help it!) "and he's from malaysia, not japan!"

prob loads of typos as just popped on here quick during transition to rant this.

I hope the jabs were ok myjob.

Need to schedule Q's next jabs asap since he's getting better before another cold or something comes on!

How are you and W feeling now Ronshar?
Btw in answer to your question about us all invading your home in February - We can all bring something to you since you are already opening your home to us!! No need for you to slave away cooking.

We haven't taken a holiday in AGES as it has been unaffordable since Q was born and now with childcare arrangements changing it's even more out of the question We'll just keep going to the park or into London when we can.

Lyme Regis sounds really lovely. DH has always wanted to holiday there.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/01/2010 20:51

12th would be great myjob!
A fb message of recommendations would be great, but don't panic if you don't get chance tonight - any time in the next month or so would be very helpful .

Hello just popping in quickly. Had a lovely day off with J, went to visit my Nan and then two NCT friends. It was reassuring to see that our babies are doing the same things, mainly mini tantrums when they can't have what they want

Myjob hope the jabs went ok. We won't give it to J but he hasn't had any of those horrible chest infections your two have. Agree with everyone else it is a very personal decision.

Get well soon W

CSWS- I had no real idea how expensive having children would be. Thankfully I am too tired to yearn to go out much and work in the Nursery so can kit myself out in Primark clothes

Aubergenie- thanks for all the slow cooker tips. Dh is now on the look out for one, he is a bit of a geek and likes to do a comparison of those around when we buy new electricals. Whereas I go for those that are bargains or look pretty!

HMM- Hope tomorrow goes as well as it can.

Right off to do a bit of planning. The new 2010 RachieW aims to do all her work for the following week before Sunday. I've managed it for the last 2 weeks... it won't last.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/01/2010 13:46

Blimey it's a bit quiet on here at the moment. Where'd everyone go?!

aubergenie · 21/01/2010 13:58

I'm here! Just got ds to sleep, dinner in the slow cooker and am now sitting down with a cup of coffee and a creme egg.

We've had a busy morning. Done loads of cleaning, been to the library and the shops to buy paper and paint as we're going to try and make a picture for Daddy this afternoon. We had a shocking night last night - S is very congested and teething (I think, but I always think that and he's still only got 4 teeth) and it was like sleeping next to a steam train. Poor DP has a job interview today and looked like death this morning.

Jenwa - Your hair looks very nice! I am toying with getting a fringe next time I get my hair cut but am a bit nervous about it in case it looks cr*p.

50ftQueenie · 21/01/2010 14:20

I have a limpet baby today and every time I try to pick up my laptop, she tries to throw it on the floor!

I think she is teething too at the moment as she screamed for an hour last night when we put her to bed. And she woke up twice in the night and refused to go back to bed. She's had a short nap today so soon she's going to be hideous & grumpy. She's also going to be hungry as she wouldn't eat lunch and I am not giving & letting her have something else!

Argh.... here she comes again....
