oh Star what a horrible bloke, why is he messaging you anyway? Did he read her email and did she know he mailed you? I would find it very hard to trust her as would be worried what she is telling him to make him speak to you like that or is she totally unaware? If she was a good friend she would not allow him to speak to you like that or is he very jealous of the friendship you have with her? You dont deserve to be spoken to like that! What did you DH say? Mine would have been really cross.

myjob ahh bless little N and her teeny feet. P is a 4.5. Glad the shoes fit her and she walking well in them.

17 weeks csws nearly half way.....whoo hoo!

StarExpat · 19/01/2010 19:45

dh was/is very very angry about it.
She didn't realize he had text. When I fwded them to her she said today that she didn't really care about him so much and was going to start spending less time with him anyway... but wasn't upset he did it. Last time she just said he was protecting her and that was that. He got off scot free. It doesn't matter. Done and dusted. Next time I won't try justifying myself though. I'll just tell him to mind his own business

aubergenie · 19/01/2010 20:03

Star - He sounds like a nasty piece of work and what he did was utterly wrong. But wtf is your friend playing at? If I was going out with someone who sent abusive texts to one of my friends, I'd be kicking him out and making damn sure that my friend knew how angry I was about it. I know you're protective about your friend but, bloody hell, she really doesn't sound like much of a friend to me.

I'm feeling very smug. I assembled the ingredients for tonight's dinner in the slow cooker pot last night, popped it in the fridge. Then this morning I rigged up the slow cooker up with a timer set to come on later in the morning. When we got in this evening there was a lovely hot chicken and vegetable curry ready and waiting for us. And the house hadn't been burnt down.

StarExpat · 19/01/2010 20:16

yay for cooked dinner even when you're not at home, aubergenie!!

We visited the cm again today. I really, really, really like her. However, I'm soooo nervous about leaving him alone there because it's the first time leaving him in a place with which I am not completely familiar. I think he will be fine and have a great time... She truly is great. Change is just hard!!

RachieW · 19/01/2010 20:24

Well done with the slow cooker Aubergenie, I take it that you think they are worth having? I've been thinking about getting one for a while. Dh has just made us a casserole for tomo night so he is being my cooker tonight

Star what a horrible man. I know it's horrible but from what you've said your friend not looking after Q anymore could be a good thing as it doesn't sound like she is a good friend and she has very bad taste in men. Some distance between the two of you will do you the world of good, she seems to cause you a lot of stress.

Myjob- Yay for N's new shoes

J has been in a very good mood tonight and gone straight to sleep with no crying Apparently he has been dressing up as a doctor at Nursery sadly he hasn't managed to cure any of the barking coughs they all have. I'm off to have a Tuesday night glass of wine as no teaching tomorrow. Very pleased, we have 6 new ones settling at the moment and they are very hard work, I spent the morning tearing my hair out.

jenwa · 19/01/2010 20:32

star Q will settle fine and at least it is more of a positive and friendly environment where it is purely a working relationship and you will not feel awkward asking her to do things for Q etc. I think you will actually feel a lot better with him here and not have the pressures with your friend. Can you start him there for a short while at a time first to get him used to her and the surroundings?

aubergenie ohhh look and you and your slow cooker....just of you

rachie bless J and his dressing up. P likes dressing up as a fairy with dd1.

P been clingy alot and will not settle for dh, she wont go to anyone else except me unless I am not here! Dh upset as she cries when he tries to put her to bed and I am shattered as she just wants to be with me all the time.

StarExpat · 19/01/2010 20:37

Q is the same as P right now, jenwa. He goes in phases of wanting dh or me.
cute about J dressing up as a doctor at nursery!
yes, I know it will be better, just have to get through the change part. He's with my friend until 8th feb when my half term starts. Then dh has half term the next week and he'll start with cm the 22nd. My friend says she wants to be able to have him for an afternoon or morning here or there sometimes. I'm really happy about that so he won't be totally out of her life.
We're settling him in over my half term and sunday before he starts on monday.

The change is stressful isn't it Star. I felt very anxious before S started with the CM three weeks ago. Once Q is settled, you'll probably look back and be really glad you were forced into making the move.

Yes to the slow cooker Rachie! We got a cheapie £12 from Tesco becuase I wasn't sure we'd use it and it's been brilliant. I hadn't dared to leave it while I was out at work before because we're out of the house for so long and I was worried about the food all being ruined. I just set up one of those plug-in timers you use for lights when you go on holiday. It's also big enough that you can bulk cook and freeze. It's as close as you can get to someone else cooking your dinner when you've actually had to do it yourself!

I'm a convert. Can you tell?

It's hard work when they're like that isn't it Jenwa. How's the hair today BTW? Has it settled down or do you still look like a mushroom?

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/01/2010 21:20

I love my slow cooker. Mine has a 'hold' function, so I can set it to cook my dinner and then just keep it warm for as long as I like until I'm ready for it.

We've just booked a holiday . Going to have a week here during Easter holidays. Will be first hol since June 08, and really looking forward to it. Just hope it's decent weather, which is fairly unlikely in the UK in April!

pistachio ahh bless you DC, I feel like that alot, I feel like a shouty mum then they cuddly and cute and I feel awful for shouting!

aubergenie well my friends like my hair but I am still unsure! I have gone from mushroom to wig/scarecrow now! I have put a pic in my mobile uploads on FB..shhhhhh

csws I cant believe you put that link on here!!!!! I want to go there it looks fab! I think I have seen it before when searching for hols last year. Looks fab though. Enjoy it.

aubergenie · 19/01/2010 21:34

Looks great CSWS. I've never been to Cornwall and would love to go.

RachieW · 19/01/2010 21:48

Wow CSWS that looks lovely. We are off to Centre Parcs during the Easter hols. We are Centre Parc virgins so am hoping it will be good. I booked J into lots of activities, water play, messy play etc. Only one adult is allowed with the child so dh and I will share the time off I'm not sure how many of the other activities we'll be able to access but to be honest a week away in a chalet, in a lovely forest just the three of us, will be perfect.

Aubergenie you are selling the slow cooker to me. Dh wants to know if it can go in the dish washer- he is dishwasher obsessed.

Star- like others have said the change will be tough. I'd expect a few teething problems to start, we had a rough time getting J settled into Nursery but he loves it now. If I'd have known how great he'd get on I'd have fretted a lot less and been more chilled out about the whole thing. I think you have really made the right choice

Jenwa- at fairy P, I just can't imagine J dressing up as a Dr

50ftQueenie · 19/01/2010 22:08

Hello ladies. I've been rubbish at keeping up lately, but the internet has been crap of late. Will catch up and post properly tomorrow.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/01/2010 22:21

We considered centreparcs too rachie, but after taking advice from several friends we decided that it would suit us better in a few years, when the dc are old enough to join in more of the activities. I was a bit at the prices of centreparcs too! It would have cost us around 3 times the price of the place we have booked!

50ft - if you do decide to come to Bude with us then book quick! I only found the site this afternoon, and we liked the look of the mill house, but in between this afternoon and this evening someone else booked it for the week we are having (w/c 10th April)! The Granary is still available though, which we nearly went for too (cause it has an extra bathroom ).

RachieW · 19/01/2010 22:30

We were a bit foolish with Centre Parcs to be honest CSWS. We really wanted to go so just thought let's book it even though it is expensive, two weeks later they were on Watchdog for hoiking up prices by 200% in school holidays. Oh well we'll live and learn I suppose. As I keep pointing out to dh too we have no a very cheap social life so can save our pennies for it

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/01/2010 22:33

Oh yes Rachie - before we had dd when everyone was going on about how much children cost, we were like - no, we'll save the £10k or so that we spend on holidays each year as we won't be going to posh far off destinations any more!

OP posts:
aubergenie · 20/01/2010 06:37

Rachie - You can put the dish and lid of the slow cooker in the dishwasher. (Not the electrical bit obviously!) There are loads of slow cooker threads in the Food section. People were raving about them. You can even cook a whole chicken in one.

CSWS - Can you set your slow cooker to switch to hold automatically after a certain amount of time, or do you have to actually be there to do it?

50ftQueenie · 20/01/2010 07:33

Aubergenie - Our slow cooker automatically switches to keep warm once it has finished cooking. You have to manually turn it off!

CSWS - We never had expensive holidays to cut down on, but I was going to cut back on clothes shopping etc. Ha ha ha ha ha!

StarExpat · 20/01/2010 08:29

Your holiday looks lovely, csws.

I'm really interested in the slow cooker. I'd like to make something without onions . I feel like I should start eating chicken again but can't even deal with the texture of it at this point, knowing it's the muscle of an animal. I know that sounds strange!!

Myjob - I'm not giving my two the jab (only M has been offered as DS is too old), but I am confident that my two are robust enough to deal with flu. They both have amazing immune systems! However the decision is a personal one. You know your babies best, you know how they cope with illness and only you can make that decision.

Pistachio - I got a Sweaty Betty catalogue this morning and immediately thought of you. Not that you're a Sweaty Betty of course, but imagining you drool over the running gear! I have to say I like the Velocity jacket, very pretty detail on the sleeves!

Your instinct says to give it to them. Otherwise you wouldn't have booked it Your instinct for your kids is the right thing to do.
