It will be ok, myjob. So sorry they are ill now But at least you won't have to worry about them getting it again, now. Hopefully it won't last too long

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/01/2010 15:02

A temp for a day is far far better than how ill they could get from actually contracting swine flu though myjob.

Pistachio - be sure to mention that he is breastfed, so no-one else would be able to look after him. I've always thought it would be exciting to do jury duty, but I've never been called.

How awful, pistachio!
Like csws says, make sure to mention that you're breastfeeding him. How callous and horrible of that woman to say that to you. As if it's that easy to just find someone to randomly look after your children for 2 weeks! she must not have kids.

With my criminal justice hat on, the reason they were probably so callous is because SOOOO many people try to get of jury duty for rubbish reasons. Not having child care and needing to breast feed your baby is NOT a rubbish reason. That woman has probably heard every excuse under the sun, some good, some terrible. It is her job to be hard, otherwise the system would totally break down as there would never be enough jurors to hear a trial (except CSWS and I as I would love to too!).

Pistachio - You should be able to defer jury duty without too much trouble. You have good reasons and it would be totally unfair to expect you to find child care at such short notice. However you will have to do it at some time in the relatively near future. You can defer, but you can't get out of jury service. Hang on..... that's how it works in England, not sure if it's the same in Scotland.

I hope it works out, pistachio. When do you find out?

How are the dc myjob? How's W ronshar?
sickness is just yuck and scary!

My cm wants a month pay for deposit. We start with her on 22nd Feb (haven't signed contract yet). We can't afford a month's deposit. That would be 800 pounds. It's already difficult to afford the rate of pay as it is!

50ftQueenie · 21/01/2010 20:25

Well, I am waiting to hear from head office (must chase that up) as I need to speak to the local tutors plus there has been a change with funding so I need to check on that. I have been invited to the local NCT social on the 6th Feb to meet everyone so that's exciting! I want to start asap but things seem sooooo s l o w....

I can understand why you're so worried about it Pistachio. I've known other people to defer their jury service for less important reasons than that.

Star - I think it's common practice for a CM to require a deposit. Does it then pay for your first month's fees?

Myjob. I really hope both your dcs are better soon.

I'm desperate for something sweet to eat, but there's nothing in the house.

RachieW · 21/01/2010 20:44

Hello just popping in as dh has come back from the shop with a huge bar of chocolate and we are going to watch Law & Order.

Myjob- hope the dc's get better soon

Pistachio- I'm sure you will be allowed to postpone your jury service. People at my work have done that because it is a busy school time which frankly is much less of a reason than a bf mum. So if they can I'm sure you can too

Star- hope you can work something out with the CM.

Right off to stuff my face. Ohhh can't believe I forgot to say- we had firemen come to visit the Nursery chn today and I got to sit in the fire engine. Was so exciting and they were very nice looking..yum. Oh and the children liked it too of course

aubergenie · 21/01/2010 20:48

of chocolate.

StarExpat · 21/01/2010 20:52

I don't think so. But just figured out, it's 1600 she wants. 1 month to hold the place and then 1 month for notice period up front . I know it's common to require a deposit but I didn't think it would be a whole month!

StarExpat · 21/01/2010 20:56

2 months even! If the one month up front goes toward first month's fees, then I can certainly do that... but can't do an extra month on top of that....
