Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMcJnr · 14/04/2010 21:36

Thanks for all your concern about Xavier?s antics!

LaT ? have no idea what to do about the terrace, the only way he could have done it was to go over the top and that?s chest height to me, just doesn?t bear thinking about. I have played down to him how worried I was but am not letting him out there unless I can watch him which is a shame as before when I thought he was safe I could get on with housework. Funny you should mention it, Xavier has stopped crying when he wakes up now thank goodness, I do try to talk him through things but if he doesn?t want to hear it he will not look you in the eye ? monkey!

Simpson - sorry to hear about J?s need for an op on his ears how did you get on with M at the paeds?

Gingeme ? how are David and Edward doing? Hope David enjoyed his birthday in spite of the pox!

gingeme · 15/04/2010 10:21

Have they given you a date for the op Simpson? It seems quite a commom thing these days.
Sonds like your handeling things well JKS. Keep up the good work
How is everyone else?
Things are a bit pants here at the moment As you know David had the pox just before Easter. He is fine and scabby now. Edward was realy grotty over the weekend and showed a few spots on Monday. Now he is completely covered and was very poorly yesterday and sick . Came into our bed last night for a bit but just wriggled like a fish cause he was so itchy.
George has quite a few now too but dare I speak too soon he seems quite well for now.
DS1 is here till Sunday and has been a big help. Him and David and I are going to see How To Train Your Dragon this afternoon . Just hope I don't fall asleep half way through
Ah well it will only be David returning to school on Monday another week off for the others.

MrsMcJnr · 15/04/2010 15:06

Poor you Gingeme sounds like you really have a house full of sick kids hope the film helps to take yours and their minds off things!

gingeme · 15/04/2010 16:09

Yes MrsMcJnr they are spot spotty The porridge (oat) baths are realy helping though and Piriton
The film was awsome btw

LaTrucha · 15/04/2010 19:12

Sounds miserable Gingeme. Poor little ones. You sound like you're bearing up though, so well done.

We're braving the trains tomorrow to go home, although we're not sure if the plane cancellations will make it awful. Does anyone know?

gingeme · 16/04/2010 13:27

Had a night from hell last night! I havnt been up so many times to George since he was tiny. He is sooooo covered in spots . More than Edward. His worst bit is his nappy area. He was getting more and more cross and frustrated and hot and bothered ! Gave him a porridge bath this morning which helped a bit . I feel a bit useless not being able to realy help with his itching though . Edward seems much more himself today thank goodness though.
Sorry for the moan . Hope everyone else is well xx

Oh no gingeme just what you don't need...hope George gets better soon...

LaT - good luck with travelling.

Not got date yet for J's op but will be in about 8wks or so....

M had her final settling in session for nursery today and she absolutley loves it

Did not really bat an eye when I left her today.

She had lunch there and the staff were at how much she could put away as she is so small

Had pead appt earlier in the wk which went well and she has been discharged although will still have to see dietician for a good while. Only concern is rash on her face and back which pead (and also GP who I saw yesterday) said is exema (sp)

Have been sooo busy the last few weeks, will be glad to get J back to school on Monday and have a rest

AngeChica · 17/04/2010 13:22

all my boys are asleep upstairs so thought I would pop on and say hello. A threw up in the middle of the night all over his room so we are all a bit knackered. He's chirpy enough today but some very loose nappies, so presume just a minor tummy upset. DH took him to barbers this morn for his first proper haircut!
Had a good couple of days with my folks ta.
I had grommets put in twice as a kid Simps, a weird thing that happened to me when I was about 25, poking around in my ear and an ancient grommet came out, eeeugh. I am sure they will stop J getting the infections - they are soo painful, so will save him the pain in the long run.
sorry to hear about the pox Gingeme. All done with in one fell swoop though.
I expect life v hectic over the enxt few weeks for you JKS .

simpson · 18/04/2010 11:51

does anybody know anything about exema (sp) as DD now seems to be covered it in??

Looks like another trip to the docs...

LaTrucha · 18/04/2010 14:55

Simpson - Aveeno lotion - which you can get over the counter at Boots or on prescription - applied thre times a day is good. Also, a cream called Dexeryl which I think is quite new and I guess is on prescription, although I trialled it through mumsnet. I think it's even better but not sure how you get hold of it.

If this doesn't work, you may need hydrocortisone (although this never worked for me. I'm not sure why. It's supposed to! It works on S) Failing that, for very sparing use a steroid cream got through GP.

I also think calendula cream (Nelson's do one) is quite good but it would cost you a fortune to use all over.

Didn't Lilyloo's M have this too?

Sabela did / would get it but I found a baby wash which seems not to irritate her skin. It's called Infaderm and costs about £4.50 a bottle from Boots. For me and for S, getting the right soap is key, plus moisturisers / steroid cream when necessary. This is the only onw which seems to work with her, and I tried a raft of them.

Hope the chicken pox has cleared up.

I'm at the 'losing your temper at the drop of your hat' stage of pregnancy. Need I say more?

willsurvivethis · 18/04/2010 17:57

My suggestion is not a soap that doesn't irritate but no soap at all - Nathan baths twice a week in just water which keeps his eczema at bay.

We only use soap on his hands.

Sometimes skin just wants to be left alone.

simpson · 18/04/2010 18:10

Thanks for suggestions

Have just bathed DCs in just water (with oilatum) and have now stopped using wet wipes on her skin.

Have got a double base cream from docs but tbh I think it is making her face worse

The bit on her back has gone totally but it is looking painful on face and groin especially.

Going to give it a few more days then go back to GP. I have to go anyway to get new prescription for her milk as she has been switched to neocate advance (milk for older DCs)

simpson · 18/04/2010 18:12

forgot to say will try and buy that Aveeno cream tomorrow...

LaTrucha · 18/04/2010 22:17

There's one that's in a smaller tube that I think is more concentrated. The others are more cosmetic (although they are the ones I use and I like them) so you may want to try to find that one.

I have been prescribed creams that make it worse myself, including hydrocortisone (although it works on Sabela).

Trying no soap is also a good option.

simpson · 19/04/2010 09:49

LaT - thanks

Her face looks slightly better this morning as I am now only putting double base on it first thing in morning when it looks very dry and other than that leaving it iyswim.

But I don't think it will clear on its own completely and her groin is still bad so am in towm tomorrow as M has first day at nursery so will get cream then.

School drop off was absolute chaos this morning as the school normally has 2 gates open but some clever soul decided last term they only need one open

So massive traffic jam of buggies, people, screaming kids etc to get through gate

M is now at playgroup till 11.30 so have some free time to clean MN

gingeme · 19/04/2010 12:44

Afternoon all.
Things getting much better on the pox front here ds3 back to school today ds4 and ds5 still home for the week though. Took ds4 to the docs today. The infection in his willy has returned The gp just told us to keep using the anti biotic cream on it for another 10 days and if its not clear she will give him oral anti b's.
How is A Ange?
Poor M Simpson. Let us know how she gets on with creams etc.
How is everyone else?
Sorry about the pants catch up brain is mush today

fillybuster · 19/04/2010 18:30

Oops, lost the thread....sorry

Will try to catch up tomorrow. Sorry for being so pants at the moment, am having a crappy end-of-pregnancy (SPD, back pain, odoema (sp?) etc etc) and working really hard....excuses, excuses, huh?

Hope you're all keeping well?

Gingeme - went to Aldenham at the weekend and thought of you...I'm sure it was you who recommended it ages ago, wasn't it? Shame I couldn't actually walk anywhere, but the dcs, dh and our friends all enjoyed it

LaTrucha · 20/04/2010 09:17

Morning all

Had an exhausting day here yeseterday. We had a carpenter in to do some jobs for us nad I knew DD wouldn't nap with so much excitement going on. She's really in to Bob the Builder at the moment and spent her time hammering away while he was. I did hope he would nip home for lunch (he lives round the corner) but he stayed until everything was done. I was dropping with tiredness!

Up until this week, all men were 'papas' for Sabela (what she calls DH). In the last couple of days, I realise DH is now Papa and all other men are Dad. She kept calling and calling the carpenter 'Dad' trying to get his attention but fortunately I don't think he can speak toddler so didn't realise!

On the more negative side, my frined brought her DD and new baby boy round in the afternoon. S loves the baby, but now doesn't think that a baby should come and live with us . She told me to put him down in no uncertain terms! DH just said, 'Of course she doesn't want it. Do you think she's stupid?' I think I had been lulled into a false sense of security.

My friend insists that having a newborn and a toddler is much easier than being pregnant and having a toddler, so that's good!

Filly - sorry pregnancy niggles are getting to you. Have you seen the osteopath for the SPD? Mine says DON'T leave it, go and see them straight away when you feel it.

Funny how feeling like you've been kicked in the privates becomes a 'niggle' when you're pregnant, isn't it?

Where is JKS ATM?

simpson · 20/04/2010 09:49

LaT - sorry you had such a tiring day yesterday..

I definately agree with your friend that being pg with toddler is much harder than with newborn iyswim.

Well M has her first day at nursery today. I have just dropped her off.

She was so interested in the snacks that all the kids were eating she did not notice me leave

gingeme · 20/04/2010 13:47

Glad you liked it Filly we must go again soon.
Don't envy you at all LaT. Never thought I would say this but Im glad Im never doing any of that again
Yey M Simpson
I popped into pre school this morning and the teacher said Edward and George could return tomorrow yey. They so need to get back to routine and to see their friends.
Took a load of my too big clothes to the charity shop this morning. Feels so good to know I won't be needing them any more
Anyway I hear a two year old calling from his nap. Better go . x

JustKeepSwimming · 20/04/2010 22:02

Hello hello i am here, have been reading but not got round to posting, then i keep thinking i'll do a big cathup but not getting round to that either!!

MrsMc - big scare for you, any news on how he did it? i'd be tempted to let him out there, whilst watching, and see if he did it again to find a way to stop him.

G - so glad your boys are all getting over the pox, nasty but handy to be done with.

Otherwise, mind = sieve but i have read at the time!

All ok here, both boys over pox & subsequent coughs & colds/chest infections.
Waiting for referral for H to asthma clinic as he ended up in hosp again with breathing 'issues' with the latest chest infection.

H doing really well generally, nothing specific to report but happy & trying to talk/make words.

THinking about when/maybe/if we may start ttcing no 3 one of these days...

Also, when was Lilyloo due back? presume she is stuck abroad, hope they are having a good extended trip!

gingeme · 21/04/2010 13:28

Number 3 JKS ! You go girl .
How are things LaT ?
Had some good news this morning. My nephew, who was fighting in Afghanistan, is coming home Friday . He was supposed to come home yesterday but because of this ash cloud thing they weren't allowed to fly. Can't wait to see him.
My two scabby monkeys went back to pre school this morning boy did they need it. Had great fun.
I had my weigh in today too. I lost 2 1/2lb and DH lost 3 ! I have 11 lb to lose then Ive reached my target weight ...

mixedmamameansbusiness · 21/04/2010 14:10

Hello everyone....

Been busy busy with the estaer break, work (rubbish as ever), studying, house stuff, BIL engagement.

Well Dh and I comprimised on me giving up work and he is now going to be working weekends in order to have 2 days off in the week so we are now at home with E for 4 days of the week, with Friday both boys spending ith MIL. It also means we can pick S up from nursery every day at 3pm which relaxes me for when he starts schol in Sept. It does mean that other than annual leave we will have NO time altogether as a family, but I feel it is really important that we are about for the kids... this has only recently become an issue for me with S satrting school in Sept. I completely obsessed with picking him up and not using the after school club.

BIL is getting engaged this weekend so a very busy one ahead. I met the girl in qiestion last week and she seems very nice. Very prper wifey material though which based on the previous gfs is not what I expected, but he knows what he is doing and she is nice. Looking forward to it and got an amazing outfit...pics will be on FB.

I was goign to as about Lily too.

Glad the pox is over Ginge and JKS. Wehad it back o back last year so I feel the pain.

I received an interview date from my uni for my degree... very nervous but am well prepared and as I am already there doing my current modules it should be fine, but still caking it.

We decided to stop trying for a baby and be happy with our boys, although DH has said that if we stop now he doesnt want to have another later, so am still alittle up in the air and havent hd my IUD put back so who knows. I guess I will just continue my certificate programe and defer if I get pregnant.

Not going to Turkey in the summer now as my mum was only going if we go and she would rather stay here as her sister has cancer and is not expected to respond particularly well to chemo and my nan is still in hospital and my cousin cannot come this year and my dad is only going for some administrative stuff that needs to be sorted so we are looking at 4 days in euro disney instead.

E is coming along hugely with his talking and most people can understand him and now that we are off with him most of the week I am starting to think about potty training MrsMc... not sure how I will goabout it yet, but with S it was very straight forward and I just kept the potty with us and kept encouraging him to use it. He was slightly older though at two and a half.

Simps - E has excema too, and it flairs up on his face alot. I use the oilatum in the bath and avoid soap and he seems to respond. We do have steriod cream which was prescribed and works but I dont like it and only use it if it flairs up. Sorry the divoirce stuff is ifficult, hope it gets sorted.

Ginge - well done with the weight loss... today S teacher asked me if I was pregnant so I am now on a mission to lose (or get pregnant).

IWST hope u are feeling better and Nathan's pis are brilliant as always on FB. Love looing at them.

Hello to everyone.....

LaTrucha · 22/04/2010 19:44

Mixedmama - how do you feel about that decision? It's a big one. You sound like you have an awful lot on at the moment.

I'm feeling incredibly tired now. I'm hoping it's because I've got a cough, but DH says not. 30 weeks now. Feels like a long way to go.

Does anyone have problems with daddy coming home after work, before children's bedtime and the children being overexcited / misbehaving with them?
We still have. Remind me what to do again? Our strategy has run out of steam.
