Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

I'm glad it's not just my relatives who are useless

My DH is fairly similar to a lot here. I try to tell him that DS only cries less with me because I am literally with him 24 hours a day and so have a great deal more experience with what might be wrong with him, and am also in possession of a pair of boobs, but he does get frustrated a lot quicker. DS doesn't even cry that much!! He also isn't really prepared to just sit there and mindlessly chat with him. If I have something to do in the evening, I can hand DS to DH and go off, and I'll come back and can hear DS whingeing and DH will be on the computer and he'll have just bunged DS in his bouncy chair and is sort of bouncing him with his foot and saying shush without really looking at him.. DS is only whingeing because he's bored!!
I think he'll be much better when DS is a bit older, as DH really doesn't particularly get on with babies, but is great with toddlers, so I have my fingers crossed!

As for the bfing in public, DH is really really supportive, so I can't really help you out there. He used to be a bit about bfing in public before DS was born, but now he almost encourages it and totally understands why it's so important to be able to feed in public

Gah! Just did a huge post and then lost it!

Essentially I'm stressed and fed up at the moment because ds has gone back to constant feeding. Had almost 12 weeks of this then have had a couple of weeks of two hourly feeds but now back to constant. Hoping that this is a growth spurt or I will go mad!

Sympathies to you who have rubbish rellies. Mine have been great since ds was born. Can't really complain about dp either , well not today any way!

Catherine did that too LaDaDaDi - lasted about 2 weeks then she went back to almost normal.

She's now doing a pretty consistent 7.30pm bedtime and 2am night feed then up at 6.30am when DH wakes us as he's getting up to go to work.

She even stuck to 7.30 bedtime when the clocks went forward!

Except last night when we had 11.30 and 5.30am

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/04/2010 14:24

Hey all.
Elizabeth has gone to being woken at 10 for a feed and then waking at 3 for one and then being up for the day at 6. Not good.
Plus when DH gets up with her in the night I can hear him really huffing and puffing and sometimes swearing if she sicks up some of her milk. I would rather do every 3am feed if he is like that but then when its his turn to do the 10pm one he ends up doing it at 11pm getting to bed quite late and then complaining when I ask him to get up at 6am with her. I cant win but also dont have the strength to do every feed.

Went to see my surgeon yesterday. Im not going to have the operation to straighten my back now. I was given a 1 in 80 chance of paralysis and a 1 in 200 chance of serious infections, due to my age and the fact I have the weird split spinal cord thing. I dont want to take those sort of risks, maybe if I didnt have Jake and Elizabeth to think of I would chance it.
He is however going to "freeze" my spine in place with rods to stop it progressing any further. He said he would remove some of my ribs and correct my shoulder blade as a compromise!!!
Its going to happen in November. Shall be fun trying to run around after Elizabeth whilst recovering!!

Elizabeth is doing the standing up thing. She hasnt rolled over yet though, im sure Jake had done it by now, I remember him not keeping on his back whilst trying to do baby massage!!

sparklycheerymummy · 01/04/2010 20:37

I have decided not to say what ds is doing sleep wise at it changes daily. I havent been on much or if i have i have read everyone elses stuff and thats it. All fine here....ds had a cold last week but appears to have recovered. he sleeps ok at night and well during day.... is happy t go down for a nap which is great till he sleeps through till school run time!!! Am mix feeding now AS I couldnt keep up with him and didnt want to give up bf completely..... its working really well. give ff at bed and one in night then bf during day including one i express on an evening. ds doesnt care what he gets or how thankfully!1!

Kingsroadie · 01/04/2010 21:20

Hi everyone and welcome longhaired!

I am jealous of all of you and your standing/rolling babes . Poor Persephone is really crunching her tummy and it looks as thought she is trying to roll/sit up even but obv she can't go anywhere because of the cast... She managed to roll over to her side the other day though!

Re her sleeping - she goes to bed at 7 (had a couple of off days with the clocks) and then is woken at 10/10:30 for a feed and then wakes again at 6:30 but then goes back to sleep until 9ish which is a godsend at the moment. She has been waking at about 3:30am (she did last night but not the night before and night before that was ill with jabs so up at 2,3,4,5). When she wakes at 3 she usually actually cries - this seems to have been the case since the cast - before she would sort of protest cry which never escalated etc. Now she escalates in about 10 minutes and seems to have lost the ability to get herself back to sleep some of the time. I wonder if she just has less tolerance as a result of the cast etc. I gave her some water last night and she went back. She has also been resisting sleep in the day again...probably starting to exert her independence!

Am going to try baby rice tmrw so my husband can be there for at least one important stage of her development! He has to do some work but from home which is good. She was so so sick last night and is coughing lots so has ANOTHER cold/cough. Honestly, it's ridiculous - I have a crap immune system and seem to constantly have some sort of cold or virus - seems she might be the same - how rubbish. Anyway I held a chunk of apple to her to chew and she was really keen and gummed it for ages. She also drank 30oz yesterday and will probably have a similar amount today - which is more than she has ever had so perhaps groth spurt or maybe ready for a bit of rice - will try anyway...

Hope the sleeping goes well tonight - I realy could do without being awake for 45mins at 3:30am!

BexJ78 · 01/04/2010 21:54

Hi all

Kings, hope things settle down for you with P, poor little lady. hope the baby rice goes down a treat!

I think we are going to try baby led weaning, so will be a while yet before we start her on any solids. anyone have any experience of BLW and any do's/don'ts?

have a good easter y'all!

Claire236 · 02/04/2010 09:11

Poor little P. She's been a little star with all she's been through. How are you holding up kings? I wish ds2 would go to bed at 1900. He sleeps from about 2230 until 0800 so can't really complain but he's awake from 1700 until 2230 apart from the odd random 20 min snooze. Going to start putting him in his cot after his 2100 bottle & see if we can start getting him to go from then with an 2300 dream feed. He's a lovely happy boy during the day these days though which I really appreciate after the horrible start we had. I still find I can lose it at the slightest little thing as I don't feel able to relax & accept that this is him now rather than thinking every little whinge heralds a return to the nightmare he was in the beginning. We have however got such a good routine during the day that this morning when I didn't put him in his cot at 0930 when he usually has a nap after taking ds1 to school he fell asleep in his bouncy chair. Went for a cuddle yesterday with a friends baby. She was born Monday & I already can't believe ds2 was ever that little. Started ds2 on some baby rice last Saturday & have progressed to sweet potato mixed with rice & he totally loves it. Oddly he's drinking more milk during the course of a day since we started & he seems so much more settled. I can see why reflux babies can be weaned early if he's anything to go by.

GoldenSnitch · 02/04/2010 09:34

Poor little P. Hope she enjoys the baby rice. We've got to wait with Catherine as both DH and I are atopic so we risk giving her allergies if we start too early.

Ouch at the removal of ribs ABF! Sounds like a big op. I remember you said you had scoliosis but didn't realise it was so bad!

Catherine's not pushing up on her legs yet. Tried it yesterday but she just giggled. She was clockwork as ever with going to bed at 7.30 and awake at 2.30 but then I tried putting her back in her crib rather than letting her co-sleep with us for the 2nd half of the night and she woke again at 3.30. I fed her again and she stayed in our bed, only waking at 7am this morning. Will try putting her back again tonight as I really feel uncomfortable with the co-sleeping and want to be able to spread out when I sleep again!

Trying a bottle again today too. Did her 'breakfast' feed then expressed andd tried giving that to her for her next feed. She screamed till she fell asleep Milk is in the fridge now waiting for her next feed.

Also trying to get DS to use the loo by himself ready for Pre-school. Have left it set up with his stool and little seat and am letting him go uo by himself. So far so good with that one...

LaDiDaDi · 02/04/2010 12:05

Sounds like you're really making progress GS.

I was awake 4 times in the night with ds. Co-sleeping so it's not too bad but I found it really hard to get to sleep last night as the position I need to be to feed him in somehow didn't feel comfy for getting to sleep iyswim. Very tired again today.

Hia all..... about weaning..... doc says he is happy for me to wean at 4 months and asked me loads of questions about allergies and obesity..... was really helpful and suggested first foods etc. ds is 20lbs plus now and i am really struggling to fill him at all....and who wants a constantly unhappy hungry baby. am a bi sceptical on blw but prob cos i dont really know what it is...... it wasnt heard of when my dd was weaned 8 years ago.... i started on purees and as soon as able lumps and finger foods and she is a great eater..... will just go with the flow. Toby has been sanding up since birth it feels like. i remember feeding him as a newborn and him pushing himself off the back of the sofa and taking my nipple with him..... i feed under arm usually. am mix feeding now and its working so so well and means i am more likely to continue f at all (was close to giving up comletely) ds is having tastes of allsorts on the tip of my finger and i have been cooking lots and putting cubes in the freezer. have the annabel karmel book which i like. trouble is i end up eating loads of the stuff myself!!! tAKE cARE EVERYONE!!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/04/2010 18:51

I dont think Elizabeth is anywhere near ready for weaning yet. I made a huge choc/coffee cake the other day and gave her a dab of chocolate cream, I could tell she liked the taste her face lit up! However she did the tongue pushing out thing instead of swallowing so I will be leaving it for a bit yet!

Kingsroadie · 02/04/2010 19:11

Aw thanks everyone!

ABF so sorry for you having to have the horrid op...

P is very very happy generally so we are terribly lucky there. She slept 7-7:30 last night, with a dream feed at 10:30.

Am a bit fed up as my husband was working until 2pm today and will also be working tmrw. I know it sounds so ungrateful as he does it for us but am just tired of feeling like a single mother now. My parents were around so we went shopping and he joined us for lunch but I just miss him. He hasn't seen P all week and today not too much either. Plus I feel like I do everything all the time, even at the weekend. He says I don't help with his work so why should he help with mine at the weekend. But I pointed out that at the weekend, when he is NOT working it's OUR job. Not just mine. It's not fair. So I was a bit upset today and we sort of had a chat about it. He then put her to bed. I just don't think he really gets it though and thinks that I should do mmost of the baby stuff even at the weekend. But his job, although long hours, isn't 24 hrs a day so why should mine be? I need his help. To be fair, he does hlep when asked but I wish he would offer and look as though he enjoys spending time with her more rather than sighing (but apparently he was sighing cos he thinks i am always nagging him - I then said if he did more rather than having to always be asked then I wouldn't nag - vicous circle!)
Phew sorry - had to get that off my chest...

Gave P some baby rice tonight - she had about a heaped teaspoon! At first she sort of just sat with it at the edge of her mouth with her cheeks puffed out looking cute. Then I tried again and followed it with the bottle and by the end she was eating it and seeming happy! She was less sick as a result, and she has been so sick all day. And she still had 5oz of milk (at 5:30 this was) and another 2 at 6:30.

1petshortofazoo · 02/04/2010 19:31

We've had a horid couple of days here

Regan was sleeping through 6.30-6.30 generally waking 1-2 times in the night for his dummy but happily going straight back to sleep but for the last 2 nights from about 10.30 he was waking every 20mins really upset and proper crying he just seemed over tired not wanting a feed, nappy changing or a cuddle I felt totally useless!
today he has been really fussy and not feeding well, spitting the teat out and crying. he has also done 10 poos where he normally does 1 or 2???
He has only had about 16oz today when he has been having 30ish.
not sure if he is teething or has a tummy upset or even getting ready to be weaned (so my mum thinks) i wanted to wait as long as poss as he has eczema.
I hope tonight is better i'm pooped

GoldenSnitch · 02/04/2010 19:40

Catherine has fed pretty much constantly all day. Gave up trying to give her the bottle as I couldn't cope with any more crying.

DH is coming down with something which is scary because he never gets ill so if he's coming down with it, it's going to be nasty for the rest of us. I feel like I've got a lump in my throat, it's not looking good for our happy family weekend

I wonder if the feeding is because she's feeling poorly too? Nothing else would do, she just cried. I feel drained!

Still, 7.30 and she was asleep - wonder how long it will last?

sparklycheerymummy · 02/04/2010 20:11

lots of people and babies sounding poorly.... ds had a yukky cold and i thought i was ill earlier then realised it was the 3 bean chilli i had last night...... its a slimming world recipe..... no o=wonder you lose weight..... have been on the loo all day.

ds def ready for something other than my milk and is more sick if i give formula during day even though he can keep it down at night when still. will just see how it goes.

longhairedchiefofstaff · 03/04/2010 13:13

Hi all! hope you are having a good Easter weekend. Sounds like there are lots of poorly babies around. Poor Lottie this morning - went out for curry with DH last night and I think it must have made my milk taste funny this morning. I fed her and then the whole lot reappeared as a projectile across the bedroom! She just smiled at me as if to say what did you expect!!!

HollyHo · 03/04/2010 15:50

Afternoon ladies,
Hope you are all well and enjoying the weekend. I am waiting for DH to get home, he has a rare Saturday night off, no plans but will just be nice to chill out. DD is still asleep, having an extra nap today, she seems tired today so I am of course letting her rest.

Just about to watch the boat race... just because I am from Cambridge... am a 'townie' not a 'gownie', but just find it fun to watch.

Not sure what nappies you guys are using but DD is growing out of 'New Baby' size 3 already! Just wondered as I am using disposables no need to stay with Pampers, as we are now going to need to buy a new size I thought I would ask opinions on other brands/types as I feel the need to research it, especially as she'll be mobile soon and I am sure that makes a difference.

Just uploaded a new photo of her too, if your interested in my little growing girl!

1petshortofazoo · 03/04/2010 16:09

Hope you enjoy your night holly, the fair is here at the min so planning to take ds1 after regan has had his last bottle and wrap him up nice and warm in his pushchair. I hope it stays dry!
I'm using huggies size 3 stay dry and so far so good,i tried pampers on ds1 and found them to get quite saggy between his legs.

Claire236 · 03/04/2010 21:07

HollyHo - Using Pampers at the moment which I didn't like much with ds1 & still don't like much with ds2. Huggies are my favourites. Used Tesco ones with ds1 when we were in the UK. I love Cambridge (I'm from Suffolk although currently living in Germany) Heading home for a visit in June & might have to have a day in Cambridge while we're over.

GoldenSnitch · 03/04/2010 21:18

Still in newborn aize 1 nappies here as Catherine isn't 10lbs yet Using Huggies.

I used Tesco's own with DS until he got much bigger and they started leaking. Might have to give them another go this time too

Pampers always leaked with DS while friends with girls swore by them. I think nappies are a lot like jeans - depends on your/baby's shape. What fits one child might not necessarily fit another.

LaDiDaDi · 03/04/2010 21:51

Hello all,

Kings, I think that what you're going through with your dh is very common after a first baby. Keep talking to each other and encourage him to spend time with P on his own, resist the urge to help him!

We are using Huggies, not sure what size.

Went out for the evening yesterday put had to come home as ds was refusing to take a bottle and was screaming. I bf him and then he did take a bottle of ebm from me but will really have to try to do it more regularly. Did manage to go back out once he'd finished feeding and had a nice time ib the end.

Good day here though the recipes that I followed for a fridge cake thing was a bit rubbish, haven't tried my choc cake yet so hoping that's worked better.

OP posts:
sparklycheerymummy · 03/04/2010 22:11

hi.... I use HUggies at night and asda, tesco, lidl (love lidls own), sainsburys eco..... basically any i get vouchers for during day!!!

GS bless little Catherine..... TOby is about 20lb now and in size 4 nappies!!!!

1petshortofazoo · 04/04/2010 07:52

Last night was soooo much better Regan had his bath and bottle and i snuggled him all up and took ds1 to the fair. he stayed awake for a little while watching the lights but soon went to sleep. he woke up when we got home and i took his coat off but went back to sleep straight away when i put him in his cot. He woke up once at 2.30, he had pooed so i changed him and left him awake. i could hear him winging but he went back to sleep 5 mins later and he didnt wake up til 6.40!! and he drank 8oz for his breakfast so i think he is deffinatly feeling better
