Just went to christingle service. It was ok but Q developed a croup cough as soon as we got there, wanted to be standing up the whole time - me in the back with him, singing in his ear and when the minister was talking he just wanted to speak uggle buggle and play with the bibles... But it was nice.
And the vicar's wife was happy to meet us as her and her teenagers often see Q sitting on teh kitchen worktop playing with Dh or I - it's his fav spot and their window looks straight onto our kitchen window.

The amount of times I've seen people having to deal with listenign to people moan about gifts given tot hem by other relatives, friends...etc makes me very nervous about the many ungrateful moaning threads to come after christmas.
I'm sorry if anyone disagrees but I strongly feel that gifts should be appreciated no matter what they are and no one has the right to judge how much "thought" was put into their gift by the giver, even if it's a bottle of shower gel! Don't people realize how selfish and ungrateful that makes them sound???
My apologies. I just really wish people could be happy and enjoy and appreciate. I'm definitely going to pass on to Q the values and manners that my parents taught me. You appreciate a gift no matter what it is and never, not ever, expect one.

Rant completed.

DH is getting dominoes tonight
Having a proper nut roast and turkey tomorrow with all the trimmings for just the 3 of us

50ftChristmasTree · 24/12/2009 17:27

Star - I am with you about gratitude. But then that's probably because I mostly love buying things for others and anything I get is a bonus. I am very of pizza. DH insisted on cooking.

What time tomorrow is everyone present opening? I will do my SS first thing and come on to tell you all before I go to my mum's house. I'm getting excited now......

I've just been to a crib service too star.

I trust that you'll allow me to at least whinge a bit about presents from my parents star. It's a traditional part of Christmas for us . I already know that she's put in a big box of chocolates for dd, because she thinks that I'm mean for not letting her live on a diet of sweets, chocolate and ice cream . And I know that my uncle has given the dc a box of chocolates between them too, which of course ds can't even have because of the milk!

50ftChristmasTree · 24/12/2009 17:45

If you're allowed to moan about presents form your mum CSWS, then can I moan about MIL presents? I have to try and be nice in the New Year so it will be my last opportunity! Plus, I guarantee that she doesn't put any thought into the things she gets for me and DH. We have a a few years where she never bothered and then said "Oh we'll get you something at some point" & then we've never mentioned it again so .......... nothing. But I'm not disappointed because I don't get something, but annoyed that she makes the pretense. Either bother or don't, why pretend? I agree though, not thoughtful presents considering a) it undermines your views and b) isn't very good for poor D!

There is a little too much excitement here too. DS is going to be put out into the garden if he carries on.

I will be on here first thing too Myjob! Yay!!! I'm sure your gift will be lovely.

This evening we will be wrapping , watching Spooks from yesterday and then maybe a film. DH will be drinking mulled wine so I expect the quality of the wrapping to decline as the evening goes on.

I hope my SS likes her gift, too! I thought long and hard about something that would be fitting...

I'm not going to complain and of course I am grateful that they even sent us a gift at all, but we all opened one gift for xmas eve as is tradition... and my dad and step mother sent me.... wait for it...
I can barely find the words.....
FOOTED PAJAMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Adult size! hahahaha
DH and I are rolling on the floor laughing. He got tasteful flannel bottoms with a cotton blue long sleeved T to match. I'm sure they were just thinking how much I love to be warm and snuggly and thought it would be perfect.

hahaha rofl lol rofl lol rofl lol roflol!!!

I'll open SS in the morning and get online when I can. Do we just say what it is and then people try to guess who sent it?

pistachio aren't you the one who fancied having a big family all together at holidays when we talked about having more dc? maybe that wasn't you.... sorry if it wasn't!

I agree, just intercept the gift. Save them for when you can eat them again... or send them to one of us who can...

Lol at you not being ungrateful star .

Tonight's plan is wrap final 5 pressies, shove all pressies under tree, clear up bombsite island in kitchen so that I at least have some workspace tomorrow, peel potatoes/parsnips/carrots and prep cauliflower ready for tomorrow (there's no way I'll get them all done in the morning), and then collapse in a heap into bed!

What time is everyone eating their Christmas lunch? Dc usually eat around 12, and then ds naps afterwards, so hard to delay, but 12 seems soooo early for Christmas dinner.

StarExpat · 24/12/2009 19:44

LOL
I don't think dh would want me to wear them within his line of sight....ever... . He doesn't even like bathrobes (dressing gowns). or nightdresses that are really long. sweat pants (what do you call these - gym trousers??) or pj bottoms are ok though

aubergenie · 24/12/2009 19:44

I got a glimpse today of what future Christmases would be like when we visited friends with 4 and 5 yo dcs. They were wild with excitement! My friend looked absolutely knackered and muttered something about being able to freeze the children for a couple of weeks before Christmas actually starts.

I'm hiding out in the kitchen drinking wine while dp puts S's tricycle together. I always keep out of the way while he's assembling things as it seems to send him into a grump about how shoddily-made things are these days.

Once he's calmed down, we're going to watch It's a Wonderful life.

Dp and I have decided not to get each other a "thing" this year, as we've got no space, but we're going to get theatre tickets and get my sister to babysit and have a proper night out together instead.

Star - How are you all feeling now?

not sure about dinner...
Q usually naps by 11.30ish latest. We have times scheduled to skype both grandparents and aunts/unces and a few friends tomorrow between 10-11.45am. So probably wont' get to it until after Q wakes up. I think I'll nap with Q and we'll get up around 2.30 (ideally) and DH can cook while we sleep

pistachio - is that what grandma is doing now - glowering in the corner watching it all, like you hope to be doing?

aubergenie · 24/12/2009 19:55

Myjob. I have to admit, it's so bloody cold here that I wouldn't mind a sleepsuit with feet in.

We're driving to my parents' in the morning. We don't usually have our Christmas dinner till about 5, or later as my mum always insists on us all going on a bracing walk in the afternoon.

It's like one of Q's sleepsuits.... but for me... with cute monkeys on the feet and the rest is blue and a cute monkey emblem on the chest.... sock monkey pjs?? If you would like them, myjob, they're yours! Seriously! I'd like to see them being worn

StarExpat · 24/12/2009 20:02

Great idea, aubergenie! What are you going to see?
I'm feeling really congested and full of cold. Q is coughing like a barking dog and has a lot of snot. But was happy before bed

lol about future christmases aubergenie!

Hee hee! I would LOVE one of those Star. CSWS and I saw some for 14 year old girls in M&S at BW, if I shift the lard one of those would fit me! DS has a "babygro" and he loves it! He was very upset tonight when he realised he had left it at Nana's.

CSWS - We're eating at 2 as dictated by our own family matriarch, my mum. M normally naps at 11 for a couple of hours, but hasn't been very good at napping with her big brother around.

Aubergenie - DH and I always plan to do something like that but never get round to it. When you have small people to look after, time seems to be one of the most precious things you can give each other. And I completely agree with your friend. The build up to Christmas this year has been the worst yet. DS as been like a coiled spring!

DC are finally in bed, so let the marathon wrapping session begin. Every year we tell ourselves we'll finish before Christmas Eve, every year the same mad last minute rush! If I don't get back on tonight, Happy Christmas you lovely lot and I hope you have a fabulous day with your delicious children. I will be back on tomorrow for SS chat.

It is soooo funny!! And I totally know that they know how I like to be cozy cosy and warm and just thought it would be perfect!! I'm going to have to get all of the giggles out tonight before we skype with them tomorrow and thank them!
