jael do you have a hand food grinder or similar electric dodah to make purees? when we got to 6m after the 1st tastes.. with ds i made purees out of all of our dinners.. so he tried curries & chilli (mild though) pasta etc.. if the pasta was big i gave him some whole to pick up and suck.. chomp & play with... finger foods. if it was going to be v spicy i modified it by rinsing off our meat/pasta, blitzing it & mixed it with some of the vegetable purees i'd prepared from the freezer. he loved the big flavours and even now as a toddler is relatively easy to feed.. will eat all sorts of things his friends would turn their noses up at.

FiByTheSea · 25/11/2009 19:10

jael forgot to say what a lovely surprise of flowers and it's so exciting to have wedding dress fittings too!

HeadlessLadyH · 25/11/2009 19:16

So DS1 had his very first taste of school today. It was all such a whirl that I had no time to get emotional about it. He was literally whisked away into his class as soon as we got through the door and then the parents all were taken for a talk. He had 2 hours and loved it. So I'm not worried that he won't settle in at all. He's another half day next week and then full time in January.

belgian it took about 2 weeks for R's poos to really show the effect of food. They are now (sorry TMI) greener, much more solid, and boy do they stink!!!

He is going great guns with his food. He really seems to enjoy it and so, consequently, so am I. I hated weaning DS1. I clearly did it too early for him, even at 5 1/2 months, as he just refused everything for weeks.

OOh yes jael we must have a hen do for you and book grumpy sexybuilder again! WHen is your big day? Your DP sounds very romantic too. He needs to give a few lessons to mine!!

llare sorry to hear your back is sore too

headless well done on your ds's first school day.. glad it wasn't too emotional.

Jael · 25/11/2009 19:35

Llare I'll have a check on FB later where abouts you are, I think I know though. We travel around quite abit on the weekends, as I don't drive I have to rely on Public Transport which can be a pita.

Fi we have this mini food steamer/blender thingymajigy in one. I'm abit scared about introducing everything tbh tonight I cooked him rice and mixed it in with his puree which he gobbled up no problem, so thats rice and pasta he's ate no problem now, I've got to brave meat, I don't know why I hate it so much. I guess what I hate so much at the moment, is I'm still having to prepre all his food seperately to ours if you get me, sometimes when I've had a hectic day, I've got to come home and cook his food seperately to DD. Not that I want to wish his life away, I can't wait though, until he can have the same as what were having...

The wedding is July, were not very organised, but saying that, we did only book it 2 months ago at least my dress is sorted though!! hehe

pulacracker · 25/11/2009 19:43

Jael- are you very anti-jars? I am mixing some jar food with my veg purees so S is getting different food groups from that. I have also started to thicken my purees with baby rice as S seems to be eating large quantities of purees and not getting full too. I have tried some finger foods (pear, pasta, cooked carrots, toast) but he's not too keen and has had lots of choking fits . I wouldn't want to feed him what i eat ATM as it is mainly pie, chocolate and caramel shortcake .

Belgianrockets · 25/11/2009 19:50

jael I was thinking that bolognese sauce is a fairly easy one to blend I think and it contains beef. I must say that my eldest 2 barely ate meat until they were at the fingerfood stage, when I started giving ham. I know what you mean about finding it difficult to introduce. I must try C with some meat soon too.

llare Hope your period didn't come through. I dreamt about having one last night for some reason I hope your back gets better soon too.

We had daisyroots for dd1 and C has some Shooshoos. Both of them are a similar design to febes' shoes. I've also got a little gadget called sock ons and they're fab too. But now it's colder we tend to go for the shoe option.

Thanks for the messages re ds's b'day on F/B. It's amazing how quick time goes. Where's my little baby gone, hey. But now I've got another baby, so it's ok

I've had some very very sad news from Belgium. My grandma is not well at all. There's a tumor completely blocking her colon and she needs operating, even though it is almost certain she wont survive the surgery. The doctors explained to my parents and my grandma that it's basically a choice between a sliver of hope resulting in a dignified death or a certain painful and undignified death (because her stools can't go anywhere but up ) My mum only just phoned and I'm desperate to go to Belgium to go and see her. It might be my last chance to do so DH and I will have a chat to see what can be done. Unfortunately ds's b'day party is booked for sunday, so it's not going to be easy to visit.

Better go and read the dcs a bedtime story now. Just had to get the bad news of my chest before I could do so though

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 25/11/2009 19:51

Jael-I give R exactly what DD eats so today he had- weetabix and banana, mushroom soup with rice (sounds gross but it was lush-like risotto) and for supper pasta with vege and cheese sauce with oatcakes and satsumas for a snack.
If DH is home then we all eat together and R eats a bit of what we eat -roasts are very successful, he and DD loved homemade fish and chips, chicken with sauce and rice or pasta alway go down well to. If its a chunk then I give it to R to eat himself and if its saucey then I spoon feed him. He prefers to munch himself but eats off the spoon fine. I do use chillies in my cooking quite a bit and both DCs eat it fine as long as I don't go mad. I think they must be used to it with all the curries I ate during PG and BFing.

Your DP is such a honey to leave you flowers my DH sometimes does lovely things like that but not for a while so I'll have to have a word.

FiByTheSea · 25/11/2009 19:52

lol pula ikwym... i have a thing about chocolate buttons.. the giant ones atm. i'm sure g would love them but no way she's getting them!!

FiByTheSea · 25/11/2009 19:58

oh belgian i'm so sorry to hear how poorly your GM is

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 25/11/2009 19:59

Also this time of year is nice for casseroles and its really easy to chop or puree a spoonful of whatever casserole you and DP are eating. I just leave out the salt when cooking and DH and I add salt before we eat if needed.
When DD was weaned I made cubes in the freezer so she always ate different to us but for the past 6 months or so since I put DD in a booster seat at the dining table I have tried to eat the same as her and DH if he is here. It makes us eat way healthier too- although doesn't stop me eating icecream and chocolates once they are in bed .

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 25/11/2009 20:00

Belgian I'm so sorry about your GM. I hope you can get over to see her soon.

HeadlessLadyH · 25/11/2009 20:05

jael we do what febes does and really try to give R what we are having. And roast dinners work a treat for this. R even gummed strips of beef this sunday. Roast veg, particularly parsnips, carrots and butternut squash are great for them to hold and literally such the meat of the veg out of! He had what DS1 had in Wagamamas at lunch (chicken and noodles) and a slice of pizza for tea!!

LOL at pula and your caramel shortcake.

belgina about your gran.

I'm mainly giving potato with my purees, together with suitable things from our plates. Penne pasta went down really well as it is so easy to hold. He's had cheesy potato gratin with leek, which was a real hit. I gave some chicken for him to suck/chew and he loved that.

Yesterday I made soup with a low salt stock cube and we all had it. DS2 loved that with some pitta.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 25/11/2009 20:14

Ha ha ha ha

llareggub · 25/11/2009 20:16

So sorry to hear your news Belgian. I'll say a little prayer for your grandmother and your family.

I mainly increase the quantities everytime I cook so I can freeze portions for DS2. Who knows what is in my freezer, I always forget to label so he often gets a surprise.

FiByTheSea · 25/11/2009 20:18

We've been feeding G the same as us now she's 6m hence us now making pizzas yesterday. I did breaded haddock gougons, roast sweet potato chips & carrot batons the other night. She loved sucking on the roasted sweet potato chips and i popped some of each through the baby grinder for her to have via spoon which she happily gobbled up... although she preferred the sweet potato to the carrot We also leave out the salt when cooking and add it if needed. I do use garlic, herbs & pepper etc in cooking though and she'll be eating all of that when those dishes are made for tea. I'm making cottage pie for tea tomorrow so that'll be her first taste of beef..

Trumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 25/11/2009 20:18

HeadlessLadyH · 25/11/2009 20:19

I saw that thread grumpy. PMSL. Has the OP come back yet or do you think she has been scared off???

OP posts:
Trumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 25/11/2009 20:23

So anyway.

I am coming home. Tis not working out here. DH just can't be here much and neither of us are happy. The girls miss DH and me on my own with the 3 of them is too much. I'm gutted, but can't stand this house or the utter twat arsehole owners any more.

Off to get wine, then will settle down. Waiting for S to sleep

FiByTheSea · 25/11/2009 20:24

hiya grumpy ha ha ha... i'd love to know her view after her lo arrives and see how/if it differs!

Trumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 25/11/2009 20:26

name changed for Dets

FiByTheSea · 25/11/2009 20:27

awwww grumpy i'm sorry... but in a good way at least you've tried it and know what it's like. Do you think you'll give it another go sometime in the future if you were all together as a family the whole time?

HeadlessLadyH · 25/11/2009 20:27

Aw grumpy. Am for you that its not worked out as you hoped. Is there any other option?
