hello ladies.
Good to hear dizzy got off ok.
LOTI - hope the littlest one is ok now.
albs how are you and H this morning?
Seb went to sleep at 7, having not napped all day, then woke at 8, screamed for an hour, then stayed up till we went to bed, dp got him down in his cot, where he remained for all of 30 minutes so I brought him in with us. He is being a complete misery, constantly climbing on me and demanding the boob I am now refusing, as it's just too bloody wearing feeding him every 20 minutes, and he keeps biting as well.
In terms of speaking, he says 'daddy' and his little auntie's name, and calls me 'bubbie' lots of babble in his own little language as well - he's talking, we just don't know what any of it means
I'm considering this london meetup, but will have to talk to dp. Evening would be quite nice actually - would be lovely to have an evening out to relax.

BucketsOfBlood · 05/11/2009 14:08

Meetup: I can come up on the Saturday eve after kids' teatime and probably stick around til after lunch Sunday. Off to go research trains or find somewhere to park&ride if that's more efficient. Remind me where I'm headed, somewhere near Enfield?

Have had a good morning doing errands, followed by lunch in Pizza Express, courtesy of Mr Tesco Clubcard.

Oi Sazz I turned 13 in 1989! Was probably still wearing my beloved reversible 100 dalmatians sweatshirt. Think I'll go for the black assassin gear actually as I may be able to borrow a corset off my burlesque friend on the night. (Promise to do photos!)

hotterpotter · 05/11/2009 15:24

LOL Buckets you baby I turned 20 in 1989 [old gimmer] You would not have caught me in anything electric blue though, I was a Goth, aaah

miamla · 05/11/2009 15:48

hee hee that makes me a baby too because i was 13 in 1989... i think.... yup, that's correct. And buckets think i had the same sweatshirt as you! i also had a rather fetching sweatshirt with a pig's face on the front and it had floppy ears. wow! i really was at one with fashion back then!

how much cucumber is too much cucumber? i think DS is about to find out! i was having a snack on a bit just now and he reached up for some himself. now bearing in mind he didn't like cucumber yesterday, the fact he's eaten almost half of a cucumber is quite astounding!

ooh and i saw the lovely albs earlier

arse, got so much to do and i'm sitting here telling you all about DS eating cucumber

see ya

Winibaghoul · 05/11/2009 15:53

oh dear, what am I then?
I turned 8 in 1989

Winibaghoul · 05/11/2009 15:54

And that was in december, so I was actually 7 for most of that year.

oopsandbabycoconut · 05/11/2009 16:10

I too was 13 (14 in December) in 1989. I had a thing for neon leg warmers and mismatched neon tube socks

cyteen · 05/11/2009 16:17

Ooh, I was 14 in December of 1989 as well oops Christ alone knows what I was wearing at the time, orange eyeshadow up to the brows and Heather Shimmer lipstick probably

miamla · 05/11/2009 16:30

i hadn't realised there were so many of us of a similar age!

ooh cyteen you sound like you were a VERY funky 14 year old!

completely random fact about miamla for the day... i got my first lipstick in a christmas cracker (mum made all her crackers one year) and i've still got it now Not to use mind you, just to reminisce about!

cyteen · 05/11/2009 16:39

lol, sartorially challenged more like My favourite garment in the world was a floor-length black trench coat I stole off my mum's girlfriend. It was about five times too big for me and flapped like Batman's cape whenever I wore it, which was everywhere all the time.

miamla · 05/11/2009 17:01

i stole a similar sounding coat from my dad, i think i've got that still somewhere as well! it wasnt quite floor length but it definitely had a batman's cape feel to it! my my i believe i must have looked as funky as you

alittlebitshy · 05/11/2009 17:51

I was 10 in 1989.

off v soon to meet the ladies (vg et al). nervous to go out but i'll never do anything if i don;t try this.

oopsandbabycoconut · 05/11/2009 18:25

ALBS - enjoy your evening out - H will be safe and fine with his Daddy and big sister to look after him. Say Hi to everyone

Just popping on to say Dizzy has arrived safely and says Hello to everyone.

Off to be annoyed by the out of sync childrens voices on waybaloo.

steaknife · 05/11/2009 19:00

1989 I was 16 going on 17. I had just started at A level college so I think I was probably wearing stripey tights, black baby DMs and granny dresses.

I did make a pair of trousers out of blue and purple floral curtain fabric from a charity shop. After a rather sweaty night out I realised that the dye wasn't fixed as my legs look liked they had been pummled with a rolling pin.
Make up wise there was an awful lot of black liquid liner and some proper old fashioned false eyelashes - the theatre ones.

I think the look might have been somewhat Victor/Victoria.

Albs have a lovely night and try not to worry.

poppysocks · 05/11/2009 20:25

I was 12 in 1989 and remember a favourite outfit that consisted of jeans that had a high waist and tapered nicely to just above the ankle , a faux baseball jacket and shoes that had a bar across for school, but which cunningly slipped backwards over the back of the shoes at the weekend. Very, very cool I thought. I even rather liked the bridesmaid's dress I had that year that was pink, blue and cream striped and bo-peep stylee with a lovely pink sash. Dear God... (sorry albs and cc)

SazZaVoom · 05/11/2009 20:29

Evening all

Hope the Islington meets Ireland meet goes off with a bang on guy fawkes night . Very of non baby meeting, you will be able to talk AND enjoy a glass of wine whilst not wrestling/chasing/cuddling/feeding/changing a small person. Enjoy

I have had a horrific headache this evening, just clearing now after a bath and paracetamol. DD1 been a pain going to bed and DH taking ages to cook dinner. That sounds SO ungrateful

I was 16 going on 17 too and was probably wearing hiking boots and a waterproof as being a Venture Scout took up a lot of my time at that age . I do also remember a rather special green striped batwing jumper which i obviously looked fabulous in . No fake eyelashes though, no need to overdo a look IMO [Steaky]

BucketsOfBlood · 05/11/2009 20:56

Hey Poppy I had a baseball jacket too! 5th years used to come and ask to try it on so unique was it. Think that was the start of my attention-seeking style that never really went away. Went great with the mullet too (which I thought was punk because It used up so much hairspray).

DD went to Rainbows for first time tonight - I asked if she liked it, she said yes, Rainbow lady asked the same question immediately after and she said 'I don't know' and when we got home my mum asked it and got 'not really.'

steaknife · 05/11/2009 21:29

oooo google earth.
You can see right onto the terrace of our old dive centre in Gran Canaria, but was disappointed not to be able to see the turf labarynth (sp?) in Mammysteak's backgarden.

steaknife · 05/11/2009 21:32

Sazz I think the hugeness of eyelashes and black liner was to distract from the flatness of the boobage area and general all round stick-insectiness of the rest of me.
How cruel can the world be? Having to have your teenage years during the 1980s?

I spend an awful lot of time shaking my head at the local teenagers and saying loudly to DD - "they wouldn't be so keen on it if they had to wear it the first time around"

Seriously I saw some kids accessorising their school uniforms with luminous, fingerless gloves.
Has history taught them nothing?

steaknife · 05/11/2009 21:33

Right that's me for the night I am off upstairs to practise my winged eyeliner organise my bedroom drawers.

Evening all
I'm pleased to report that the mini-london hairy trucker meet went well

Wine was drunk, food was eaten and lots of chatting accomplished and some of it wasn't baby related

miamla · 05/11/2009 23:27

I'm on my bb and still can't see posters' names so I'm having fun guessing who wore the various shocking items in the 80s!

Snotrocket · 06/11/2009 01:37

Glad you had a good meet. So that I haven't met any of you yet - roll on March 2010 northern meet up - I have dates if anyone is that far ahead.

I too was 13 in 1989 (1976 must be a good vintage!). I was with Buckets and the reversible sweatshirts and Poppy those shoes (clarks weren't they) my Mum wouldn't let me have slip-ons but managed to compromise on those and I switched them to the slip-on version once she left for work before I left for school. It was also the year that she let me wear 'all' black for the first time - she didn't think black was a suitable colour for young girls!!

steaknife · 06/11/2009 08:13

Glad the London MM went well.

It is 8 am and DD still asleep. Which would be even more fabulous if she hadn't woken at 10 last night and not settled till 12.30. My own fault it took me that long to think she might be thirsty. I also got a head butt in my nose for my troubles. [sigh]

I have a trip to the dentist today. I haven't been in about six years, I am a bit worried.

so wotsall this london in November meeting chat. Are you going to the big meet or doing a small Aug08 version?
