Hi thought I'd take the bull by the horns and start a new thread. Hope the weaning was covert enough! Fire away!

It's still snowing not stopped at all. It's really not looking good for dh getting home. He said some roads around his work have been closed

I've just steamed some carrots, broccoli and cauliflower to puree for Noah but gave him some to play with eat for his lunch before i pureed it. He loved squashing it in his hands and some did go down i think

ladylush · 05/01/2010 14:30

I've been experimenting with some jars )(to see what she likes) before cooking food to puree for dd. Don't think I am very good at pureeing though as I gave dd some apple the other day and it was quite lumpy. I cooked it first then put it in the blender but wasn't sure how long to cook it for (cooked it til it was soft but still had a bit of texture iyswim) or how much water to add when I blended. Would like to cook all her food though rather than buying jars.

ladylush · 05/01/2010 14:32

ignore the extra bracket
phoenix hope your dh can get home

JetLi · 05/01/2010 14:44

Farking snow - bloomin loads of it here so we have missed a birthday party and my pig flu jab. I am sulking and have eaten a whole packet of fig rolls. Got Radio Sheffield on and you're right Phoenix - there are roads shut all over the place. It sounds like Toby Foster (who does the breakfast show normally) is still broadcasting now - presumably he can't get home. DP is meant to be flying out to Spain tomorrow - here's hoping it gets cancelled and he stays home with me I wasn't looking forward to being on my own.
Patchy - thank you for your kind words. Have been thinking lots about your friend. It's so very sad
washing - stacks of it here. Can't be arsed today due to sulking and fig rolls. I don't do any at New Year due to superstition We shall all be naked by the weekend at this rate.
Queenfee - soon as I've had my smear & results and my pig flu jab then I'm with you TTC - keep getting a bit wobbly about it being too soon for Hetty but I figure in for a penny and all that. If it happens, it happens and whilst I'm not terribly religious I do believe God/The Universe never gives you more than you can cope with
sleep - had two or three good nights on the trot and then up twice last night. So no we've not cracked it here - not remotely.
weaning - we've had a few teensy stabs at it but nothing "official". Mum's maple roast parsnips were enthusiastically gummed on New Years Day. My guacamole was pushed away in disgust Going to a weaning party on the 21st January at the Children's Centre when she'll be 6months and 1 week. We'll see what they have to say. I think I know what I'm doing - I'd like her to have our food for ease but it will mean us eating more healthily than we do now!!

ladylush · 05/01/2010 14:52

jetli up twice sounds good to me. Up to two nights ago dd was feeding about 5 times a night Admittedly I wasn't having to get up (co-slept) but still exhausting.

Oh no Activity. Lilac might be slightly better than pink for a boy .

Dh just got home Ds1 is nagging him to take him out now

lydiathetattooedlady · 05/01/2010 15:37

we've had some snow here but nowhere near as much as everyone else!
lady i tend to cook everything for about 10 minutes, then if its's veg puree it down using the water it's cooked in to make it more runny or if it's fruit i use/used breast milk to make it more runny. i just add it a bit at a time til i think the consistency is right.

baby my dp mainly does nights too his usaul pattern is 4 in afternoon til 4 in morning.

breastfeeding i am missing out on the cuddles and i still have that nagging as towhether it was right thing to do, but im making up for lack of cuddles by keeping him in our bed!

babystuff we only have a small 2 bed terrace so very cramped for space. dp totally gutted out dd room on new years day and put alot of her stuff up there. even though she's only nearly 3 we feel she's old enough to play in her room as and when!

activity i went through the same with Bill with him screaming through the nights so know how you feel, but you're doing nothing wrong!

anyway im off to ice the cakes me and dd made, i hope no one gets stuck in the snow!

QueenFee · 05/01/2010 21:25

we finally have snow here too - I am pleased as we are so close to the coast we rarely get it and the kids were fed up that everyone else had some!

jetli glad it's not just me thats bokers (giggle giggle )

I find that when I am pureeing things you have to add quite a lot of water /milk before it is smooth enough

Alfie has a cold again and has missed 3 feeds today dolly parton here I come! I expressed some off to put in his weetabix so at least he had a couple of ounces. I guess that means I will be up all night with him catching up

PatchySnow · 06/01/2010 06:45

Hi everyone, Wow things are back to normal! YOu have been chatting alot over the last few days!!

I am up early, Max woke at 6am having gone all the way through, I struggled up and by the time I got to him he had gone back to sleep! So here I am! I am listening to BBC radio sussex as we speak to find out about the school closures as it has chucked it down over night and is still snowing so I think the dc will be home again today.

It is Max's christening on sunday and we are having a sit down lunch for 17 adults and 13 kids! OMG! I am making a lamb tagine and couse cous and then sticky toffee pud with toffee sauce. All quite easy but I need to crack on and get organised. (We live in a 3 bed house so not really big enough for all those people, and the kids are mostly over 7! I do hope the house isn't trashed!)

Weaning, going well and Max is so much more settled. Poor chappie was obviously hungry! BF is clearly now only a drink, a quick 5 min then off again. He has 3 meals a day, porrige for breakfast and then 1 meaty thing and one veg thing. I am trying to give him what we have so he has had cottage pie, salmon and new potatoes! cowboy casserole! Bless him!

Do any of you using real nappies want a few more? I think I have 4 of varying types, motherease etc that have never been used as WSCC gave them out as a freebie and I had thought I would use them again (I did with dd) but actually decided against it as I have enough washing as it is. (Not as much as you Baby!) Anyway if any of you want them let me know and I will pop them in the post.

The funeral is tomorrow and bacause of the snow my mum is making noises about not being able to come and babysit Max. DH will be at work and all of my friends are either going themselves or working so it is a nightmare. I have one more friend I can try thismorning but other than that there aren't many people who you can just leave them with are there. It has to be someone you really trust. He will be awake aswell as it isn't nap time.
I hope I can go, would feel awful if I couldn't.

ladylush · 06/01/2010 12:58

Again thanks for advice on weaning - looks like I will have to start expressing again. Doesn't fill me with relish as had dd had ebm for first 10 weeks of her life and it was so nice to stop when she finally started bf. Still, I suppose I won't need that much to add to cereals/purees. I did read that cows milk can be used for cooking but not instead of babies usual milk. I am still giving dd bm each meal time so cows milk would be a supplement rather than a replacement iyswim.
Snow here but not loads. My mum has a foot of snow even though only 20 mins drive from us (on a non-snow day!) School shut so my peaceful post hol days are over temporarily Dh went to work and I hope he can get back as Surrey supposed to get a lot of snow later today.
Patchy hope you manage to get childcare.
Glad dh managed to get home

ladylush · 06/01/2010 13:00

Oops - I meant Phoenix glad your h managed to get home

alibobble · 06/01/2010 15:57

patchy been using some kushies with dd as cotton bottoms that i have mean she'll have to go into 9-12mth clothes so will crack them out when she's nearer to getting out of her last set of clothes. Do you have any of that type? Find the motherese ones v bulky. the kushies need changing more frequently and cotton bottoms soak up more but the size difference is immense!

Gotta go, catch up later. Trying to cook quiche while dd2 asleep and dd1 watches peppa

JetLi · 06/01/2010 16:06

Afternoon. Less fed up than yesterday, but now we've much, muchly of the blardy snow. DP's trip has been cancelled - v.chuffed about that TBH - wasn't relishing 3 nights on my lonesome with the baby. I kept having premonitions of falling down the stairs and knocking myself out or some such catastrophic, all-alone event occuring. Forecast is more snow for us Thurs/Fri which is a bummer since it's the first baby massage class on Friday and a pound-to-a-pinch-of-shit I'll not be able to get out. C'est la vie.

ladylush - I'm with you on the loathing pumping after a crappy start to BF. I haven't done any for a while but with weaning looming I guess I should dust the pump off

Queenfee - glad you got some snow finally

Activity - boo at the lavender nappies

Patchy - I hope you get some childcare for the funeral. Could your Mum meet you at the venue maybe and have him in the car during the service? Or is that journey just as treacherous for her? Good luck for the Christening on Sunday - the menu sounds lush. I would be happy to relieve you of nappies, but would like the other ladies to get a look in too - esp. Activity given her recent accidental in-wash-dye experience.

Family Problems - the Xmas row is just lingering on and on and on. It's really getting me down now. We need a sit down and clear-the-air session desperately - everyone is so tense and on such short fuses. I left the phone on silent this morning after a bad night with Hetty and you should hear the horrid message I got from Ma JetLi, because she decided (wrongly) that I was avoiding her

alibobble · 06/01/2010 19:46

expressing interesting to hear how people don't like it. That said I love my super duper ameda breastpump. Even though BF DH still gives DD2 a bottle of EBM every night at 11 and I go to bed at 10. Have to express every morning for cereals but usually have to do that anyway on RHS cos have inverted nipple and when full dd can't latch properly. (she's better than dd1 ever was but need to give her a fighting chance)

jetli sorry to hear about rows. Me and dh had awful barney over christmas and it's all hanging in the air that we need to sort things too. Friend has asked her PIL to offer us some couple's counselling (they are trained not just random people!) which I think would be good. Too much bubbling under the surface after living with DH's depression for 2 years.

Hopw everyone enjoys the snow if you've not had it yet. Am starting to get cabin fever with dd1. Surprised she's still alive! Don't know who replaced my lovely daughter with a winging grot bag! She's missing having dh at home to keep her amused while I do every day stuff. Gonna take a while to get her back to that. She never was very good at amusing herself.

MincePAELLA · 06/01/2010 20:16

Hi everyone
Just had a quick skim over and hope everyone is well.

Snow DS1 managed to go to school for half a day which was brilliant. After DH collected him at 1:30 he took DS1 and DD to park did fun snow stuff (snowman built, snow fight etc). I stayed put w/Tristan and kept warm.

So glad the snow did not fall last night. I managed to get out to the theatre to see Breakfast at Tiffany's with some girls from my book club. It was great but have to say, Anna Friel needs to eat something. She is tiny. Or maybe she looked tiny from my seat which was a bit far back.

I am getting cabin fever. I miss my long walks with the baby.

Movement he finally rolled over today. Shame he got his legs stuck in the cot.
And we have 2 more teeth; 4 in total. Where is the time going.

Expressing I have the Ameda Lactaline too which I love. I have stopped expressing as my freezer is full to the brim and need to get through the old stock. I need to space for food. Lol.

ladylush · 06/01/2010 21:24

I think occasional expressing is fine but doing it 24/7 would put most women off - especially when your baby is screaming for milk whilst you're trying to pump. Once we got bf going dd decided she wouldn't take a bottle so I stopped pumping - there was no point. Have done it several times since to try her again but it is so disheartening to see it go down the drain. At least with solids it will be used - that might make it seem more worthwhile.

Jetli - hope things at home get sorted out soon. Not a nice start to the new year

PatchySnow · 06/01/2010 21:30

Alibobble the nappies are all motherease.

Jetli I will send the nappies to you. There are 2 tiny ones (you can keep for next time! and 2 big ones with 1 small wrap and 1 big one. Also a roll of liners. email me and let me know your address
[email protected] xx

We had a nightmare today, the roof of our conservatory fell in with the weight of the snow. We had been in there only a few minutes before so it was very lucky that noone was hurt but I think they wil need to knock the whole thing down and start again. Very upsetting and a total shock as it was such a lucky escape. We are still waitng for he insurance company to phone us. e had cleaned it all and got it ready for the christening too so thankfully had moved a lot of thefurniture, only a sideboard and dining room table and chairs. AllMax's toys were in there but we have managed to save them. Will have to change the plan for a sit down meal at the christening but a least noone was hurt.

The funeral hs been cancelled tomorrow which is a nightmare for his family. I had managed to sort out someone to look after max but the weather is truly awful and no one would ave made it to the church.

Expressing, I have stopped and used up all my stock. I have been giving him Heinz baby porrige fo breakfast which you only mix with water, but today he had porrige made with cows milk. Seemed to be ok? He is still bf on demand during the day so having quite alot of milk. My boobs are lookign saggy now though (nice!) so clearly not having as much
Hope you are all well and safe xx

oh my god at your conservatory roof! it's so lucky no one was in there! How rubbish for maxs christenting, i hope you can get it sorted on your insurance.

cowsmilk i feel so silly now, i use cows milk to make his porridge but have been using my breast milk freezer stock to do his meals, never even occured to me to use cows milk!

teeth with bill not being able to completely cover his gums with his tongue becaus eof his tongue tie, imsure i could feel them, either that or towards the end he stopped latching on properly as had a bit of pain!

goingbacktowork im having to look for jobs now, i need to be employment by end of feb, or our finances are going to go tits up! dont want to but needs must!

Phoenix · 07/01/2010 07:35

Patchy - at your conservatory. I saw your pics on Facebook. Thank goodness no one was in there. for the funeral been cancelled.

Activity - I'm really banking on a lottery win because i really really don't want to go back to work. I'm due back mid March . I work 1.30pm - 7pm. Ds1 goes to pre school every morning now so i'll be picking him up and hardly seeing him before i have to go to work then getting in at about 7.15pm and he'll be going to bed . I do get 1 rolling day off a week so that will be good apart from the weeks my day off will fall on a Saturday.

Teeth - still none here.

Sitting - He is sitting loads better after i posted the other day saying he still wasn't doing it very well. He can sit quite a bit now without falling over.

Rolling - still not doing that either but yesterday he started going right over on his side and also lifting his head and shoulders off the floor and very nearly getting over so he'll get the hang of it soon i think

Getting sick of the snow now. No pre school for ds1 for 2 days, not sure about today yet, and he is getting fed up of been stuck in the house (as am i and he's driving me insane).

Also me and dh got a 2 night trip to London and tickets to see Oliver for christmas from my parents and grandparents and i'm really hoping we can get there. We go a week today

I started writing this ages ago but ds1 and 2 bumped heads in the middle of it so i had to cuddle them both. ds1 was more upset that he'd hurt Noah.

Hope everyone has a safe day. I'm not sure wether to risk the 10min drive to pre school even if it is open

Galena · 07/01/2010 10:45

May I join you? My PFB DD was due 18th July 2009, although she made her appearance 12.5 weeks early on 23rd April, weighing just under 2 lb. I haven't really been on either the April or July threads, but I have a feeling she's more fitted to this thread than the April one!

DD rolls front to back, but not the other way, she can't really sit up for more than a few seconds without toppling, hates tummy time (hence why she learned to roll f-b), wakes at least once, usually twice overnight and loves her solids (she was weaned as an April baby, so has been having solids for months).

QueenFee · 07/01/2010 13:25

galena hello and welcome Adjusted age it does make more sense doesn't it. A friend of mine had a baby at 34 weeks the same day as I had my PFB and it was a good 2 and a half years before the gap closed IYSWIM. What did you call your little girl?

patchy also saw your facebook pics Glad no one was hurt. Hope your insurance company gets themselves into gear. I am still in dispute of the amount of money for my car for the crash I had when Alfie was 8 weeks old. The insurance omburdsman has apparently said they have a high level of complaints at the mo.

Alfie spent all day crying yesterday and I had no sleep during the night before it - i think it mught be the dreaded teeth. On the plus side he then slept 7 till 7 last night

Rolling - funny thing is my other 2 rolled front to back 1st but Alfie does back to front and shows no sign of rolling back.

DCs school has been shut yesterday and today and they (and I!) are starting to climb the walls, think I may have to make an expedition out but can't really be bothered due to the time it takes to get all their coats hats scarfs wellies etc on!

Misspaella · 07/01/2010 14:29

Welcome Galena 12.5 weeks early... that must have been quite a shock.

Patchy OMG re your conservatory. And sorry about the funeral being postponed. Hope you are not too down/p'd off with things.

School closures QF we are also climbing the walls. There are only so many snowmans that can be built, painting and playdo to do and so on. I think we have done all the indoor activities since the xmas break and we are all bored of them.

Going back to work Phoenix I am hoping for the lottery too. I am not planning to go back unless there is a lot of ££ involved (or if DH's freelance work doesn't pick up). Childcare for 3 is extortionate. 2009 was a tight year for us and we just doggy paddled financially through the year so hope this year fares better.

Weaning Apple I plan on doing both BLW and puree. I really don't think you have to choose one or the other. Seriously. TBH MN can be a bit purist on certain topics. Can't be bothered with all that.

This snow is bad for my figure. Hardly walking and eating eating eating.
