Hi thought I'd take the bull by the horns and start a new thread. Hope the weaning was covert enough! Fire away!

Christiana Your meal sounded wonderful (made me hungry in fact ). How awful that no one had the good upbringing to thank you and compliment you on your obvious efforts! I ALWAYS make sure I compliment the chef... lol... this way you get invited back!! In all seriousness... how hard is it to say thank you. Even the comment about the sleeping conditions. People ought to learn when to suck it up and keep their mouths shut! My MIL has that problem and it drives me crazy!!

NYE My DH wants to invite friends over for dinner... how nice of him considering he doesnt get home until 8:30pm!! I told him that I wasn't about to cook for and entertain a bunch of people on his behalf!! I was thinking more along the lines of inviting the couple next door over for late evening finger foods and coffee, and then champagne at midnight. No one has to drive home, and 2 extra people in the house won't be a big deal. With all these kids (and very little sleep), I am in no mood to try and go out this year.

sleep the added rice and bananas that Marco is eating has not made him sleep any better. He still wakes at least 2x per night. Further... his naps seem to be getting shorter as well. Cant catch a break!

lydiatheVIRGINMARY · 29/12/2009 15:04

hi everyone, have been away for a bit, just trying to catch up!
sadnews sorry to hear all the sad news and family losses. it always feels so much worse this time of year. it was our 2nd year without my little brother. lat year went by in a haze, didnt really ahve a christmas, this year with having a big family christmas it feels much worse

NYE im not doing anything. dp is on nights so i think it will be an early night for me!

happybirthday phoenix!! hello and welcome ladylush poorlybabies* bill has been very ill with croup and ended up in hospital dehydrated and was put on fluids. he seems better now but is still hardly feeding. we seemed to be getting somewhere with a bottle when he was ill as he couldnt seem to latch on to me but he now refuses the bottle point blank! we can only get him to take one if someone else gives him it and if he knows im not there!

sleep going down hill too! used to be able to put him in his cot and he'd be fine but be in ours by about 1.30ish. he now screams blue murder when being put in his cot. i've tried putting him in alseep but he wakes as soon as his being lowered! gah he's a bleeding nightmare...but i wouldn't swap him!

We also have our firsttooth. noticed it yesterday!

rude rellies christiana that would really pissed me off if either my family or dps forgot there manners, you should have removed the duvet and given him a sheet! my family are ok, but at dps this weekend it kept annoying me that when dd was asking for sweets or chocolates, if me or dp said no, his mum would give them to her anyway!! she ate hardly any decent food when there. i shouldnt complain though as for two days i got a lie in til 10am BLISS!

diet definately starts soon...the house needs to be rid of chocs first so i beeter make my way through them before starting he he!

babyblue4 · 29/12/2009 17:23

Lydia Hopefully Bill feels better soon. How scary to have to go to hospital! I'm sure all the fuss with the bottle and not sleeping is just a result of him not being well. Hopefully, once he is back to his happy self, all the rest will go back to normal as well. Little buggers! Good thing they are made so cute, otherwise we would have sent them back ages ago!! LOL

teeth Marco is getting close! His gums are showing 2 little bumps and he has been quite cranky. Not only that, but the drool-factor is much worse! Not only do I have to change his bib more often, but now his sleepers and blankets are all getting wet too. I need more washing like I need a hole in my head!!

sleep Marco surprised me last night and went from 11pm until almost 6am!! He ate, then went back to sleep until 8am. Was wonderful! I was so tired last night. Between the cold weather (-16 this morning), running on the treadmill for 40 minutes last night, and taking care of 4 DCs all day, I could barely open my eyes to get Marco from the swing. Thank goodness he happily nurses while I sleep. When he is done, he just goes to sleep with me! I am hoping for a repeat performance tonight!

So the next couple of days I have play-dates lined up for my DCs. They are driving me insane being cooped up in the house all day. Tomorrow we are going to an indoor glow-in-the-dark mini golf with my girlfriend and her 3 DCs. Day after, my sister and her DCs are meeting us at an indoor playground. Getting out with another adult will be nice. I will put Marco in his sling and hopefully he will behave for me!

PatchySnow · 29/12/2009 20:17

Oh baby I like the sound of in door glow in the dark muni golf! Hope you have a good few days. My dh has gone back to work tonight so I have lots lined up with friends over the next few days which will be chaos but fun.

Phoenix hope you had a fab birthday.

Lydia hope Bill is better. Poor you, nice to have you back though xx

Christiana your rellies sound like my MIL. She is sooooo rude and never thanks for anything. She has even been known to pick up a take away on the way to my house despite the fact that she knows i will bloody cook (and I am a good cook even if I even say so myself!!) This time when they came she actually praised my cooking and told dh what a good cook I was! Wow, the first time in 17 years!!! LOL

We had a great Christmas, the best I can remember in years. The dc were great fun and we played lots of silly games, drunk lots of wine and had a house full of people. Busy but fun.

NYE we aren't doing anything but will have a party tea with the kids. DH is working NYD and the kids and I are going to lunch with some friends. My friend who lost her husband last week will be there with her little boy so goodness knows what it will be like. It will be the first time that i have seen her since it happened. I don't know what to say to her, I plan to just listen if she wants to talk about it. She wants to keep things as normal and busy for her little boy and that is why she wants us all to get together.

Off to see Alvin and the chipmunks tomorrow. Have any of you taken your babies to the cinema yet? Its the first time for us and I have booked seats near the door!! He did 3 hours at the panto and loved it yesterday! We went to ASK for pizza first and he was hilarous. He ate nearly a whole piece of garlic bread!!! and got really cross when I tried to take it off him!!! He sucked away on it until it had all disolved!

Anyway, need to go and put big dc in bed. Hope you are all ok xx

QueenFeastAtChristmas · 29/12/2009 22:47

patchy lol at the garlic bread. We had a sort of second Christmas dinner at my MIL yesterday and she pureed some for Alfie however a whole clove of garlic accidentally dropped in there boy did he stink last night. He ate it allright though suprisingly enough.
sleep I think Alfie needs some sleep training he is getting into a bad boob to sleep habit not to self must be firmer in the middle of the night yawn! He has always been a relatively good sleeper but the last couple of weeks it's been like being back to a newborn with illness and now this association with the boob (probably as a result of being ill he got used to the idea)

NYE I have invited just a couple of friends round but TBH I am starting to regret it as i can't be bothered tidying cooking etc
Dh has been home today and is tomorrow but with him and the kids off it's driving me demented! Roll on tuesday and back to school, normality and routine [I need a scrooge emoticon this year!]

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 30/12/2009 17:20

Aarghh!

I seem to have ended the festive season in a parallel universe with a mardy-bum-bag, miserable baby. Too much of being passed around cousins, aunties, grannies and then all the blokes in the family I think. DP went back to work yesterday and I can't do a thing with the little madam - it has been 2 days of constantly whinging and moaning, crying and stropping, kicking and clawing at me. Grrrrrr. DP's supposed to be going out tonight as well so I ain't getting much of a break today.

Anyway, down to business!

Christiana - am most offended on your behalf by the ungrateful rellies. Bloody disgraceful behaviour.

Patchy - have been thinking of your friend lots over Christmas, especially with our family (very trivial) falling out. at the garlic bread episode though!!

QF - like the garlic idea! We are also in a bad boob-to-sleep habit in this house. But at least it's not a boob-to-poo habit like baby and Marco have

Lydia - croup is not nice at all. I hope Bill is on the mend now. I know how sad Christmas-time is when you have lost someone

Phoenix - hope you had a lovely birthday

NYE - well I think we'll be staying in with Jools Holland and a Chinese takeaway. DP has dropped a bombshell that he's going away next week on business for a few days and at this rate, he'll be taking Hetty with him as if she stays with me, and this behaviour continues, then I'm putting her on Ebay

Real Nappies - started using them last night. So far so good

London - so sorry for your sad news - I hope Lewis is on the mend now.

Going to try and placate a screaming child now. Might resort to Mary Poppins and see if that will shut her up Feel like the worst mother in the world today!

Phoenix · 30/12/2009 20:01

Jetli - I'm with you on the been clawed at. Noah does that all the time, poor ds1 gets attacked everytime he goes near him . He's started grabbing at people too and gnawing on their face. It's so funny, he puts a hand at either side of your head and launches towards you, mouth wide open, full of saliva.

Poor Bill been in hospital. Must have been scary for you Lydia. Glad he's getting better.

Teeth - Still no sign of any here.

He can kind of sit up but hasn't improved any from a few week ago when i managed to get a photo of him sitting. If he'd sit upright instead of leaning forward he'd be loads better at it. No rolling either yet. He goes right over on to his side but no further. He goes over with a little shove but he can't get his arm out from underneath him.

Christiana - at ungratefullness (if that's a word ) from relatives.

NYE - we're not doing anything. Never really do. Much prefer christmas to new year.

at the garlic bread patchy.

We're not much further on with weaning than when i first attempted it at 17wks. He wasn't showing that much interest in it then so i ended up packing it in after just over a week (the novelty kind of wore off too ) I tried again a few times but have now started again properly at 5 and a half month old. He's much more interested now, opening his mouth when the spoon comes near and the other day he attached himself to my pizza while he was sat with me .

I'm not breastfeeding so can't feed to sleep but we are still cuddling Noah to sleep. He goes down easy enough though and stays down most nights til midnight-ish sometimes later. I don't really mind him going to sleep on me and i know that i probably won't be still cuddling a 12yr old to sleep

Happy New Year to you all

allibauble · 30/12/2009 20:09

Hi all. Sorry not posted much recently. Been following thread tho.

nye off to MIL. Will be interesting! need I say more

boobsleephabit also developed that here too. DD ill AGAIN. always happends when she gets poorly. Never mind. Was up every 45mins for the first part of the evening but only woke at 2.30am in the night.. oh hang on that was dd1. dd2 was 4am! Anyway, have found the karvol and hoping it will help.

bargains got myself some clothes for dd2 at M&S today in the 1/2 price sale in next size up. Can't believe I'm buying 9-12mth clothes already. That said can't believe I'm buying them anyway as should have clothes from dd1 but we have practically none. We were so broke. Found we had like 3 outfits in 6-9mth size what did she ever wear?! Best bargain though was from the scope charity shop. The ELC marble run game for dd1 (3 1/2) for £2.50

Hope all the poorly babies get better soon (including mine) and all the poorly mums too (including me!) See you in the new year when we reach the year I will turn 30!

Phoenix · 30/12/2009 20:14

Ali, Noah is wearing 9-12mth clothes now . He's wearing some of ds1's that he wore for his 1st christmas. The difference been that ds1 was 10mth old for his first christmas, Noah isn't 6mth old yet

Phoenix · 30/12/2009 20:16

Oh and i'm 30 next year too but not til Dec 27th 2010 so ages yet. I've got almost a full year of still been 29

QueenFeastAtChristmas · 30/12/2009 20:49

we are officially trying now for no. 4 I haven't quite got used to the idea yet as I am not really quite ready but as DH agreed to have Alfie when he wasn't ready I guess it's only fair now our roles are reversed. Life plays funny tricks on us sometimes! However as I am still BFing and no AF and very little BDing I am sure it is not going to happen any time soon...
It is nice to tell someone that as it's not really the sort of thing you go round telling people in real life. I am a bit worried about peoples reactions though but I don't want a big gap as Cerys is 5 now I think it is easier in the long run the closer they are.

On the plus side Alfie slept from 12 till 8 last night He did feed all every hour from 7 till 12 to achieve it though!

lydiatheVIRGINMARY · 30/12/2009 21:06

oh my god Queenfee you are brave! but good for you! IF i were to have anymore id like them to be close in age like me and my sisters but like jetli im ready to give Bill away to the nearest person!

Im presuming it's teething but he's been crying all day for the past two days! it's driving me nuts! i cant get anything done he's just constantly screaming at the top of his lungs. me and poor dd had to sit and eat our tea through his screams.

weaning before he got ill bill was on breakfast and tea purees, but he didnt eat for a week and is only just starting again so im going with BLW and a bit of puree with his finger foods at tea to stuff him up nice and good for bed! today he had porridge and toast for brekkie (i fed the porridge!) he devoured a whole banana by himself in a few minutes for lunch and then veg puree with bread soldiers carrot sticks and green beans.

milk worried he's not getting enough how much should they have once weaning starts? he's gone down and will prob feed 3/4 times between now and 8 am then wont feed again til 2 ish then only a little before bed. i suppose he's getting all his milk at night the little bugger! he's still point blank refusing a bottle and just chewing the teat! had a bit of success with a tommee tippee sippy cup until he shook it upside down on himself!

badsleephabits like you phoenix i think meh! he wont be doing it forever and he's my last baby why notindulge him with cuddles, he really is a proper mummies boy, esme was never like this with me when she was a baby!

clothes i saved all esme best and favourite clothes as was convinced i would have another girl, bit gutted i wont get to use them again as there is some lovely bits. they're tucked up in her memory box now. have saved some of bills too but boys clothes dont seem quite so cute! we got no end of lovely 6-9 clothes for him for xmas but he seems to have lost weight whilst being ill as all his 3-6 are now too big round the waist...but looking alarmingly short in the leg!

babyblue4 · 30/12/2009 23:09

Jetli pmsl at the comparison between boob-to-sleep and boob-to-poo!! I have noticed Marco is now doing BOTH! Last night he was up screaming and only me 'plugging him in' got him quiet. TBH I am too knackered at 3am to let him scream it out... and dont want him waking the 2 year old either. Guess I will deal with it whenever!

QueenFee welcome to the club!! I am on a TTC#4 thread as well (been with those ladies for over a year and we are quite the mixed bunch now... some with babies, some prego, one in labour as we speak and some still TTC here join us!). Wait til you start telling people in RL. The 'havent you got a tele' comments will begin!! I now enjoy telling people I have 4, just to see their jaw drop!! Not just that, but the excuse "But I have 4 kids" works for every situation possible

rolling Marco had rolled over onto his tummy a couple of random times. But as of a couple of days ago, he rolls as soon as I put him down!! And right quick too! He can even get back onto his back from tummy if he works at it! Funny how all of a sudden something just clicks! As for sitting, he stays for a few seconds, but usually like to arch backwards and its done.

weaning Seems to be getting better. He now has cereal and banana for breakfast, cereal for lunch, and then cereal and banana before bed. Will start easing in the purees in a few weeks. He now gobbles down the food, rather than screaming when we try to put it in his mouth.

NYE all gone to bust... which is fine by me. A quiet evening at home suits me just fine!

outing spent the day playing indoor glow in the dark mini golf with the DCs. Thank goodness my friend was along with her 3 DCs who are older, because Im not sure I would have survived without her! We bought a day pass, and the place was pretty empty, so I put Marco in his sling and Sofia ran around plaing with her ball. The older 2 played 2 rounds. We then went next door to the restaurant and had lunch. The back to play another round of golf. We were gone for 5 hours!!! Marco was a perfect angel (which makes me wonder what tonight will be like - payback time). Sofia was a horror towards the end of the day without having napped. All in all... was good to get out. Tomorrow we have another excursion planned for the early afternoon. I will need some down time after that! Good thing DH will be home for 3 days!

Gillyan · 31/12/2009 17:43

Happy New Year ladies, hope you all have a good night whatever you may be doing.

We're just having a couple of friends round for some boozing and plenty of food!

QueenFeastAtChristmas · 31/12/2009 19:49

happy new year all!
My guests have cancelled so we are having a quiet night in which suits us as we had a bad night with the kids last night .
Enjoy your evenings

PatchySnow · 01/01/2010 09:15

Hi everyone and happy new year! We had a very quet one, DH had to leave for work at 6am so was in bed early. I fed Max at 10pm and was asleep by 11pm!!

Great news...he slept through the night!!! Hooray! He didn't wake up at all when i fed him at 10pm, and I put him back at 10.30 and he slept till 6.15am! I didn't though and woke up like clockwork at 5am! I hope it lasts, but on past performances will not count on it!!

I had a real pang of broodiness when I read your post QueenFee! How hilarious is that! I sooooo don't want another baby, 3 is my limit so was very surprised by my reaction! Maybe I will always be broody!

Going for lunch with friends today including my friend who lost her husband. My dc under strict instructions to be good, no fighting, shouting or rough play. Am going to take them out for a long walk before we go so that they can burn off any surplus energy! The funeral is on thursday so it is going to be quite a week. We have Max's christening on the 10th so it will be good to have the chance to celebrate new life.

Anyway, must go and get the big dc off the Wii. They worked out they were on there for 5 hours yesterday What a crap mother!

Happy New Year xxxx

LargeGlassofRed · 01/01/2010 09:46

Happy new year to all
patchy us too!
Stan slept from 7 to 7.30am with a dream feed at 10.30. can't believe it
Freddie didn't quite manage it with a 2.30 and 6am feed but at least I have hope that they are capable of going that long

nye Just had family round for nice dinner, poor dp hd to leave for work at 5.30am so it was a short night for him.

Put the boys together in the big bath the last couple of nights they looooooove it, both went into a splashing frenzy and laughed so much, it was so cute Dp and I ended up as wet as them though.

teeth Freddie has 2 on the bottom now and Stan has one they are chewing and drooling constantly.

TTC can't believe I still feel broody, think I've reached my limit at 5 dc's though

ladylush · 01/01/2010 19:07

Happy New Year everyone A quiet one here too - hard to leave dd as she refuses to have a bottle.

Thanks for all the welcomes

Phoenix happy belated birthday

London sorry to hear of your sad news Hope Lewis (is that your ds?) is better now.

Started weaning yesterday. Had tried a week or so before because dd seemed to want more than just milk, but dd didn't think much of the baby rice. Tried banana this time and she grabbed the spoon and tried to put it in her mouth Not doing blw because of her prematurity - read that it's not advisable.

Have noticed that she is starting to try and sit unaided now but still not rolling.

ladylush · 01/01/2010 19:08

I meant a belated happy birthday

Phoenix · 01/01/2010 19:21

Happy New Year everyone

Thanks Ladylush, i knew what you meant . If you can find our last ante natal thread or 1st post natal thread you should find a list of all the birth dates, weights, names etc.

Phoenix · 01/01/2010 19:27

for sleeping babies. Could it be new year new improved sleep patterns?

ladylush · 01/01/2010 19:44

Thanks Phoenix - I did have a peek. Will try and add dd to the stats

PatchySnow · 01/01/2010 21:38

Hi everyone. Well lunch went ok, it was really hard work though. I can only describe her as an empty shell, very shocked and totally empty. It is such a nightmare as they lost a baby a couple of years ago and now this, it just doesn't bear thinking about. The kids were great and I was sooooo proud of them. They really tried hard to be good and dd really looked after the little boy. She is such a little mummy. The friend who was cooking and I talked inane drivel all afternoon to keep the conversation going and it was all ok. I am so glad that I have seen her now though as I was feeling so useless. Now I feel that it is ok to text her etc with a little bit of chat just to keep in touch. The little boy seems to be coping well, but you just never know with children do you.

Max was a good distraction though and was on top form. Little monkey came home and projectiled his bed time feed all over me so somehow I don't think he will be sleeping through the night tonight!

I feel so lucky though tonight to have my lovely family and just want to hold them close xx

PatchySnow · 01/01/2010 22:00

Jetli I just wanted you to know that you are truly a lovely, kind person....just been looking up some info on mumsnet to try to help my friend and came across one of your other recent posts. xxxx
