Hi thought I'd take the bull by the horns and start a new thread. Hope the weaning was covert enough! Fire away!

MincePAELLA · 23/12/2009 09:26

Patchy sorry to hear such sad news. All the best today at the xmas party.

Bonzo how are you? I can't believe your LO sleeps so well. I was starting to think everyone on this thread had big babies who just didn't sleep through.

Baby I bet Toronto is well equipped for snow. Here (in London anyway) the sidewalks outside of zone 1 (central London) rarely get gritted nor do the side roads. I like snow, just hate ice when I am driving or walking in it.

Ali good re the tip on coffee but hasn't affected Tristan's sleep. He can do well some nights and not the other no matter what I drink. Although I did have some rather stinky yummy French cheese the other day and it really gave him (and me) terrible wind. . First time I have noticed what I have eaten affecting him too.

Hi QF Apple Belgrano ... can you all believe it is our LO's 1st Xmas?

Older DCs Mine are driving me bananas. I had the day from hell with my 4y old. I have never had to give so many black cards and time outs in my life. Thank goodness DH off after today for 1 1/2 weeks. I really feel like I can't cope with them this break.

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2009 13:14

Oh Patchy that terribly sad news. If there's anything I can do, let me know. I'm so sorry for your loss. That poor family.

Sorry you're not getting any snow QF - you can have some of mine with pleasure. Have nearly gone arse over tit a few times on our drive! I'm convinced I'll take a tumble and land on the baby at some point. My sister's MIL has fallen and broken her arm on the ice at the weekend.

Caffeine - been decaf since I found out I was pregnant last year - and soberish. But it's worth a try for anyone who isn't.

Night waking - I've stopped looking at the clock now. It stops me being quite so pissed off grumpy about it. Monday night was bad, and DP was drunk having been out to the office party, so I had to keep getting her up and putting her back in her own bed. I might be banning him from drinking on these icy cold nights . And he is teasing me now about Hetty going into her own bedroom. I wouldn't mind but he never even stirs when she wakes in the night, and yet he wants me to be staggering about on the landing, running between bedrooms at all hours!! I think DP will be going in his own bedroom - mwahahahahaha!!

Cold hands - I'm now trying a small blanket wrapped over the grobag and under the mattress which pins her arms down and keeps her hands warm. Thanks for the socks tip Bonzo - will give that a try as her forearms get cold too.

Nativity - good luck with the Eurostar! I reckon they must have it sorted out by now. Some friends had a nightmare-ish trip back from Lille over the weekend. They finished up on a National Express coach all the way up north from London.

Poo - have posted a thread on breastfeeding. She's gone 4 days without a poo. She's always been a once-a-day kind of gal and this has come totally out of the blue. I know it's normal for a BF baby, but I expected she would gradually build up to going a few days between, rather than just randomly stop altogether with no warning. Can anyone reassure me?

Gillyan - hope she's OK - anyone heard from her on FB? (I'm not on) - she seems to be MIA.

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2009 14:12

Activity - might need you to hold my hand a bit over Christmas. I've finally dragged out the real nappies. Ashamed to say the first size/newborn ones have remained unused, and I feel very guilty

But the next size ones are ready to go - wraps, liners, nippas et al. Should make for a fun Christmas

BonzoDooTheyKnowItsXmas · 23/12/2009 15:41

JetLiHalls (great xmas name!) my DS goes 4-6 days between poos. I can't remember when it started but he's been like that a while. As long as the poo that arrives is the same type as normal poo (i.e. not hard or a strange colour - tmi I know) then I wouldn't worry. The Health Visitors will just say anything between six poos a day to a poo every six days is normal. DD was exactly the same (and I fretted at the time).

Oh and cold arms at night - there's nothing to stop you putting a long-sleeved top on over her babygo - makes an extra layer on the arms that are sticking out.

MincePaella (another fab name) I'm with you on the black cards/naughty step overload. They are going stir crazy aren't they! And I am! Help! Didn't help that we had two parties at the weekend - both in soft play centres - so that's not an option this week for entertainment. We've had a lot of The Wiggles on DVD I'm afraid.

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2009 16:17

Hi Bonzo - did the not-pooing come with such a sudden onset as we have with Hetty? That's the bit that spooks me - we've directly gone from every day to nothing for 4 days - that's the thing that's worrying me. I thought she'd build up to it (I thought she'd only poo every other day for a week or two, then poo every 3 days etc.).
TIA

IllHaveABABYBLUEChristmas · 23/12/2009 16:21

sleep Another sleepless night for me! Marco didnt do too bad, getting up at 2:30, sleeping in bed with us til 5am, then fussing a bit and back into his swing til 8, 1oz from bottle given by DH, then up again at 9. The problem was I couldnt get back to sleep between 2:30 and 6!! Its going to be a loooong day!

holidays MissP and Jetli with you on the DCs driving me crazy! Have to keep reminding the 2 older ones that if the bickering continues, they will be spending the next 2 weeks in their rooms!!! They spend all day in front of the telly either watching cartoons or playing Wii. Today a friend is taking them bowling. The younger two keep me busy too. Its taking me forever to wrap a few prezzies because of all the demands on my attention. How do the Duggars do it???? LOL

caffeine Havent noticed any difference when I have some, although I usually only drink decaf anyway (except for the fancy lattes I treat myself to once in a while).

ladylush · 23/12/2009 16:37

Hello all, wondered if I could join you? I was on the september 09 antental thread but dd arrived 10 weeks early and was born 13 July. She's probably developmentally behind your babies on account of being premature, but just thought it would be good to chat with mums with babies the same age

Gillyan · 23/12/2009 16:45

HI EVERYONE!!!! So sorry I've not been on here for ages!

Not had time to read all the pages but did catch patchy bad news, so sorry patchy. Unfortunately something very similar has just happened to us too.

Our friend was killed last week in a horrific car accident. Post mortum has revealed he had multiple injuries but was concious as people tried to get him out. Unfortunately the engine then blew up and he caught fire...I don't need to say anymore...totally horrifc, he was 41 yrs old. He is the brother of one of our closest friends and although we are devestated that he died we are just in pieces for the rest of the family. It was the funeral today and I looked after their kids for them...so so sad

Anyhow, on to brighter subjects, I hope you are all well and those babies bouncing!

Summer is 26 wks now, still has terrible eczema but the screaming fits have vanished now ( fingers crossed ) she's on 3 meals a day and down to 4 sometimes 3 bottles. Still sleeping through.

She isn't however, sitting or rolling over or bearing weight on her legs, should I be concerned??? Got her a baby einstein play centre thing for Xmas so hoping that will help strengthen her legs and back but a bit concerned, I;m sure Grace was doing these things by now.

We have been arranging to move house ( which is why I ahve been a bit quiet on here ) for january which is a nightmare but we're going to a nicer house so all good.

Can't wait for Xmas day now!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone xx

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2009 16:46

Welcome ladylush - our babies are cosmic twins - both born 13/07

Thanks for your help on the poo thread

ladylush · 23/12/2009 16:49

Thanks Jetli - cool that they share a birthday Re poo advice - you're most welcome

NativityApple · 23/12/2009 17:14

Jeez Gillyan - how absolutely heartbreaking, I'm so sorry - to you too, Patchy. Makes me realise how lucky we are and what's really important in life.

JetLi - hooray for the real nappies, what brand are you using? My OneLife nappies are the best baby investment I made, I reckon. They've been good to me (aside from the occasional 4am leakage, but I'm working on that with tactical use of boosters..)

Welcome along, LadyLush - I also have a 13th July baby. How is your DD developmentally? I've not got much experience of prems so not sure when they start to catch up to their peers?

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2009 17:22

Oh Gillyan - I crossed posts with you. I'm so very, very sorry for the loss of your friend. It must be devastating for all concerned. Our thoughts are woth you xx

Activity - I have some TotsBots fluffles and MotherEase wraps. Then I've got ImseVimse liners. No nappy bucket yet though. The fluffles are soooo big that regular nappy buckets would be full after 2 or 3!! But on the plus side, with them being fleece, they're almost dry when they come out of the washer. First one will go on after tonights bath I think - I'll let you know how I get one

ladylush · 23/12/2009 17:28

Hi Nativity Thanks - another 13 July baby I don't have much experience of prem babies either! Ds was term and big so feel like I'm winging it here. Hard to say where she's at developmentally. She smiled at 3 weeks corrected, is not rolling over yet or sitting but can stand supported and indeed tries to stand most of the time. She babbles a lot and I think she will be a strong communicator because she babbles with expression Not ready for solids yet -tried her with baby rice at the weekend. She ate two teaspoons but wasn't particularly bothered about having any more. She is teething and that seems to be going on forever and causing her a lot of discomfort. She is in a loose routine but does not sleep through the night. She is exclusively bf - though I'd like her to be able to have a bottle of formula now and then so I can go out. Dd on the other hand has other ideas How is your lo doing?

ladylush · 23/12/2009 17:30

Gillyan and Patchy sorry about your sad news

allibauble · 23/12/2009 17:45

jetli/activity my newborn and small nappies unused with dd2. but using some kushies to break myself in. use cotton bottoms and they stopped dd1 from being able to sit up when she was v small but they do soak up loads more. must get better now she's on solids and we're onto "plasticine poo"

bad news sorry to hear about the various sad stories.

biscotti those who want to make them the recipe is here: good food website

PatchySnow · 23/12/2009 21:04

Thats strange, typed up a post and thought it had posted, but returned here a few hours later to find it isn't here! How weird is that!!

Ladylush we are another 13 July baby! I had forgotten how many there were! My ds seems to be about the same developmentally as your dd from your description.

Gillyan what horrendous news, that sounds just awful. I do feel so sorry for people who lose someone at this time of year in particular. Any time of year is bad, but it must be just awful at Christmas.

We went to the party today and it went ok, it was quite sombre but I think it did everyone good to get together and actually talk about it,lots of tears were shed and I think we all left feeling pretty drained.

We are all set for christmas. DH gets back from work in the morning and then we are hot to trot! I plan to do all my chores in the morning when Max is asleep and after that I am on holiday too! Well apart from cooking the meal... what I mean is no cleaning or ironing as the washing will have to continue as we generate so much!!

Baby did I tell you that we spent last Christmas is Toronto, loved it!

Well thats me, off to relax now until I get Max up for his feed. Gave him a grown up meal of chicken gravy and mash for tea! It was hilarious, he was like a little sparrow with his mouth open! I am hoping it will make him sleep!

MincePAELLA · 24/12/2009 09:23

Gillyan sorry for the news. Another sad story.

Welcome Lush.

Everyone Merry Christmas! Hope it is a great holiday.

Gillyan · 24/12/2009 13:07

Thanks guys! just seen *jetli@ was wondering where I was! It has been ages it seems since I've been able to get on here, missed you all!!! Anyone else on facebook???

Welcome lush

Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 24/12/2009 15:26

And the poo has finally arrived like a little festive love-gift

And we've also had the traditional Christmas family row - wouldn't be The Season of Comfort and Joy in the JetLi family if we didn't have a huge ding-dong at some point in the proceedings!! Poor little Sis is in floods of tears, DP is about ready for emigrating - or at least moving to t'other end of the country, and I'm at the end of my tether - they can all bugger off! You can always rely on my family to cause trouble!

So stuff the lot of 'em. You lot all have a very Merry Christmas

PatchySnow · 24/12/2009 20:59

Jetli keep smiling!

Happy Christmas everyone, lets enjoy it and all the food that we didn't manage to eat last year and all that booze we couldn't drink!!

The only present I ask for is for Max to sleep through...now that is not too much to ask is it?

xxxx

london11 · 24/12/2009 21:06

Hi all, havent posted for ages and so much to catch up on!

We've had a manic few weeks and I am completely exhausted. My stepfather sadly died aged 47, Lewis has been in hospital on oxygen after a bad bout of bronchiolitis and is taking forever to recover properly and between work, family and christmas I dont seem to have stopped.

DS1 is so excited about christmas and we are excited for the twins first christmas, not that they know anything about it!!

Merry christmas everyone, have a great day!

QueenFeastAtChristmas · 25/12/2009 20:36

on phone so just quick post
Sorry for those of you who have had bad news x
Hope all the poorly babies bet better soon.
Hello again to all the returnees great to see you
Merry christmas everyone I personally have decided christmas is overrated and like Jetli the arguments just start but maybe thats just me xo merry christmas from scrooge here

Phoenix · 27/12/2009 20:07

Hello everyone.

Hope everyone's had a great christmas and the babies enjoyed their 1st one. Noah loved the wrapping paper

for all the bad news. Not good at the best of times but tragic near christmas

Welcome to Ladylush

It's my birthday today . The kids are sleeping at my parents so i will be getting a full alcohol induced nights sleep

babyblue4 · 28/12/2009 00:35

Happy Birthday Phoenix

Marco also loved the wrapping paper! LOL... must've eaten quite a few pieces during the course of the evening!!

weaning So Marco, at long last, seems to have gotten the concept of eating from a spoon! He has been fussy and crying in the past, but has been wolfing down the rice cereal and banana I have been giving him lately. The change to his poo is also very welcoming. Since its thicker, havent had the explosion up his back in a long time (only mommies can appreciate talking about the importance of the consistencey of poo)

Christmas glad its done! Was very busy and enjoyable, but I am knackered! Next weekend the decorations come down, and my house can return to being a mess neat!

diet starts tomorrow!! Put on a couple pounds this past couple of weeks! Will be stuffing my face until the stroke of midnight though chocolate cake in the oven as we speak!!

sick Marco ssems to finally be getting over his cold. Although he is still a little snotty, its far less and we havent had to suction him too often, or even give him his puffers. I guess I will make an appointment in the new year to get caught up on his 4 month jabs. He is 5 months tomorrow, so we are a bit behind.

MincePAELLA · 28/12/2009 07:10

London welcome back and sorry for the news.
Phoenix Happy Birthday. Hope you were spoiled.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.

Mine was argument free which is a first. We went to DH's parents for the holidays which explains it. My side is the more passionate calm side.

Diet feeling a bit bloated. Eating and drinking pretty much all the time during the waking hours is taking its toll. We are having friends over tonight so more crap/drink to pass these lips. Ugh.

Weaning glad to hear it is going well for some of you. I am starting in a couple weeks time (LO will be about 28 weeks or so) purely because we are off to a wedding and attempting to potting train DD. And I need to settle DD in a preschool soon too. I can only handle so much. Bit lazy really...

Sleep still very broken. Enough said I guess.

NYE anyone got grand plans other than watching Jools Holland? [fmsile]
