Just noticed my Sky+ not recording Strictly

My neighbours depend on me to record it

alittlebitshy · 31/10/2009 19:45

steaky - my doorbell is turned off. bah humbug!

VintageGaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahdenia · 31/10/2009 20:03

Oh dear you humbuggers, this will come back to bite you in the backside when you are sending your own children out with their begging bags for mini Mars Bars and toffee apples! DS is gloating over his hoard and there are still fireworks going on all round here. Maybe Halloween is a bigger deal in Ireland than in England where it is more imported from the US? I might be wrong about that, but I don't ever remember celebrating it in England. Here it's really riddled with ghost stories etc from the folk memory and the veil between the worlds being at its thinnest and all of that.

Anyway the main point is we have a lot of treat size choc to scoff, a brack for breakfast (I think that's Irish, it's like fruity bread with a ring hidden in it) and colcannon which is mashed spud with about a kilo of butter and curly kale in it. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Sazz hope you get the royal treatment to enable you to recover from your round the clock duties & please remember tomorrow is a day of REST, I will send albs's dh round to remind you if you don't take heed.

I should get on with some work but what I really want to do is channel-surf while dp makes supper...

iwascyteenagewerewolf · 31/10/2009 20:28

VG Halloween has always been fairly well celebrated here ime. I used to go out trick or treating with my friends as a nipper (with mum trailing along behind of course) and this evening have been to fab community event at the local park organised by my mate - there was a Halloween trail, spooky stories and a pumpkin contest. Loads of kids in brilliant fancy dress, it was really lovely

I was always a spook-mad child and these days the thought of the dead coming back to hang out with the living for a night is quite comforting, so it's an occasion I like to mark.

pertelote · 31/10/2009 20:29

I wish it were more like that here, VG - we've had no littlies in fancy dress, just solitary teens in hoodies and rubber masks. One of them quite a young girl , who would have been marched home smartish by my mother back home... Mind you they do remember their manners and if they're that desperate for a handful of sweets I don't begrudge it.

Thanks VG and ALBS for that enthusiastic invitation! DH says it should be doable. If Islington did suit that would be fab as we could stay with the in-laws and I'd be just round the corner (just in case ).

Dizzy and No1 hope your girls are feeling better or rather are sound asleep. Sazzles I hope you are recovering and the failure of technology can be recovered too...

OOOOOOOOOOOpsacoconut · 31/10/2009 20:33

I hadn't 'done' halloween until we were visiting friends in the US when I was 17 and was amazed it was just like the telly programs. Our chinese was delivered by a witch and 'The Scream' who were given a hershey bar and send on their way once I had my food. Lucky for them there hadn't been any before them or we would have been out of anything.

Sazz - hope you are sitting feeet up, glass of wine in hand eating a take away.

itshotterinhell · 31/10/2009 20:49

Well I bought a massive tub of sweets and we only had one lot round . Luckily they are vile Swizzles lollies etc so I will not be tempted to scoff em all .

Both DC got dressed up as witches, DS looked very fetching in a little black shift dress fashioned from one of my old vests just hoping DD doesn't have nightmares...

VintageGaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahdenia · 31/10/2009 20:57

That sounds cool cyteen, we went to something similar last weekend (I suppose because it was our bank hol weekend), haunted wood walk and fireworks.

I did super-realistic scars etc on ds's face (ds1 I should add ) I'll post a photo if he lets me. This is the first year he's gone trick or treating without an adult trailing behind waving an "it's ok he's with me" from the pavement to reassure householders. He is well trained though & told me at one house he asked for an apple .

Hope none of the littlies have any more nightmares .

pert FAB that you will prob be coming. YAYYYYY.

dizzydixies · 31/10/2009 22:50

Sazz sorry to hear you're so tired, I have Strictly here if you and the neighbours want to pop round?!?

DH at work on late shift so my friend came round with her two and has only just gone, needless to say girls are utterly pooped and had better sleep in tomorrow

VG your halloween sounds fab - one of my fav things when I go home is colcannon croquettes - FAB yum FAB - glad DS enjoyed himself

cyteen sounds fab, there were several things on here over the weekend but because I was on my own with the girls there were very few things I could take all 3 to - maybe next year!!

dizzydixies · 01/11/2009 10:02

morning all, whats been going on here then, try to log in to provide brekker and MN was broken [meep]

left over halloween stash anyone?!!?

DH not home till somewhere round 4.30am, DD2 didn't have a great night but thankfully not vomit, Dylan up with the sodding lark and I thought the girls would lie in having been up late - why oh why do I still delude myself!!

anyway, have obsessed over ebay, ignored fed the children and now off to put Dylan down for nap and get DD1 ready for gymnastics

pouring with rain here & have visitors coming round so will be going down the homemade soup and baking, staying indoors, keeping warm and comfort route today

SazZaVoom · 01/11/2009 10:11

Morning

Crap night here with DD2, up shouting the odds for 2hrs, she finally came in with us and went to sleep - normally she hates this . On the upside DD1 was dry again (got up once for a wee), so we have had 4 out of 5 nights dry since we started the stickers, so something seems to be working

Pishing with rain here too . DH was going to take the girls to the car booty but not much fun in a miserable wet gale. DD2 back in bed, DD1 watching Mamma Mia again, although she has done some colouring and sticking this morning to appease my TV guilt

Glad to hear MidiDizz recovered from her sickness and no-one else caught it. A lovely day of baking sounds wonderful. I may do similar with the DD's later

Halloween nights all sound fab, we used to do a bit of trick or treating but nothing major. Always made more fuss for bonfire night

oops can you come and drive past today please?

no1 i hope DD had a more settled nights sleep

Right, off to catch up on the dances i missed on the i-player whilst DH is making my special balsamic pickled onions for me [yum]

SazZaVoom · 01/11/2009 10:21

Guilt appeased, DD1 has asked to do some painting whilst Daddy is peeling onions

dizzydixies · 01/11/2009 10:22

Spider-Rabbit now on FB for anyone who needs cheering up

Sazz - remember to look at the photos and I'll take off any you don't want on xx

iwascyteenagewerewolf · 01/11/2009 10:24

Chocolate for breakfast here too dizzy, I think we missed all the littlies knocking at our door while we were out at the park so have lots of mini Caramels and Crunchies disappearing going begging.

Rain is everywhere, it seems - the world outside is so soggy we haven't even bothered opening the curtains. At least DS seems to be in happier mood than yesterday's whingeomatic marathon, he's been toddling from room to room stealing everyone's food and crowing over his achievements Is in bed now so I should be doing something useful...but I'm not.

SazZaVoom · 01/11/2009 10:28
lwfhthevampireslayer · 01/11/2009 11:23

Crap night here. Infact it has been a really crap week of nights. Weather is very hot and humid and last night there was a massive electric storm. Also the air conditioning is not working brilliantly.

DH off to mass, DS and I will join him when I have got us both dressed. Oh bother. Raining again. Maybe we won't go. On the other hand we both grump more when we are stuck inside.

Oh but for all you literary types DH and I went out without DS for the first time to a book launch for the letters of Victoria OCampo at the French embassy.

Also rubbish worry dreams about the new baby.

DS watching TV, but now on his way over here, must go ...

Not much halloween stuff here at all!

SazZaVoom · 01/11/2009 11:23

LOL dizz i believe about 1/20 of my body has made it into those pics so no need to censor

I have some lovely ones from the Deer Park of you and the DD's. Would you like me to email to you or pop on FB to have a look at?

itshotterinhell · 01/11/2009 11:34

Hey LWFH, you sound a bit fed up not too long now is it? My DD was three weeks early so I never got that hanging around feeling but made up for it with DS who was two months 9 days overdue. Hope you manage to get some sleep before then

It's chucking it down here too, DH and the DC got drenched going to my friend's house to feed her cat while I stayed in bed until 9.50am , think we will be moofing around inside today too. No baking though, I will be expelled from the HotMamas if I eat any more buns this month

itshotterinhell · 01/11/2009 14:54

Oh no, everyone's gone off in disgust at my massive lie-in

lwfhthevampireslayer · 01/11/2009 16:21

Much better, thank you hotter. We went to meet DH after mass, DS fell asleep in the buggy. DH and I went out for coffee, then DS and I went to my church and DH went home to work (DH is catholic, and I'm not, and although we usually get to the same church once a week we occasionally have mornings like this). Nice trip on the underground (DS likes it and not too busy on Sundays) then church where we wandered around for the whole service (nice to have the space because it is still raining) and ate biscuits afterwards. DH collected us in the car, home, lunch all together. DS now napping, shattered after so much walking around at church.

Only 33+3 weeks. I hope that she doesn't arrive at 37 as I don't feel ready yet, and my mum doesn't arrive until 38+6!

Must go and clear up lunch.

lwfhthevampireslayer · 01/11/2009 16:24

Oh and a lie in until 9.50am! Sounds fab. I hope that you enjoyed it.

Oh and (2) my mum took one of her friends to a buggy wearhouse where they built a mock up of the size of my lift with cardboard boxes and tried out all the doubles to see which would fit in. Mum says that the peach blossom would fit but teh seat for DS isn't that great and that suprisingly the phil and teds isn't in fact too long, and although it isn't as nice a seat for the new baby it is better for DS.

lwfhthevampireslayer · 01/11/2009 16:28

warehouse. Yes, that's better

itshotterinhell · 01/11/2009 16:32

LWFH did you try a sling with your DS? Because I would say sling sling sling to your push chair dilemma we had a Moby and it was faberoony. In fact I still maily carry DS in a Mei Tai sling despite him weighing well over 2 stone

Glad you are feeling better, it sounds like you're having a lovely day

CaptainCaveman · 01/11/2009 16:36

hello It's finally stopped pissing it down here . How bloody miserable is the weather today!?! Can't complain, been ds free for 29 hours.....they are due back with Grandma any minute. I havent' half missed them though!

I too avoided answering the door to trick or treaters. Mind you, we went out in Nottingham last night and with some people you couldn't tell if they were in fancy dress or normal clothes . Including 2 separate men wearing orange clothes? Not pumpkin outfits mind, just bright orange clothes. One in a boiler suit (escaped convict?) too.

CaptainCaveman · 01/11/2009 16:38

lwfh how on earth did you get to be 33 weeks already! Bloomin eck!
