texasghouldem · 10/10/2009 22:31

hi ladies,

could I ask for some advice on this please?

I live in a flat and the young girl who stays across from us (on the same landing) is out, running up and down the close with 2 young kids who are staying with their gran on the bottom floor (only 3 floors in the flat). The girl who stays across from us must be about 4 or 5 as she has just started school and the kids who are staying with their gran are maybe about 5 and 7.

They are really noisey! It wouldn't be a huge problem but our bedroom where DD is sleeping, is at the bottom of our hall which is near the front door and you can hear all the noise !

I popped my head out the front door at 10pm and asked if they could keep the noise down a bit and they said yes but obviously kids being kids probably forgot to do that!

I don't really want to go to their doors but I just really dont want them waking DD up!

I thought that kids at their age should be in bed at this time?! Or at least in their jammies, curled up on the couch or something

Any thoughts are appreciated

flippineckitsabitspooky · 10/10/2009 22:32

Evening all! Is there any popcorn left? Can I have a bit of both please, all mixed up in the same bowl. It's a bit like russian roulette....

salem - at C's new tooth! But boo at the snot. And Spooky - for the new arrivals there too!

ses - have a too about the weight, fab news. Hope you had a lovely day!

zombie - I understand your pain at the constant noise, A chews (yes, chews) her hand to settle herself or if she's upset. If she wakes or is disturbed in the night she settles herself by chewing/sucking her hand (sometimes hands) and I swear it sounds as though she's going to chew her arm off sometimes.

Thanks all for the FIL sympathy - he truly is shocking at times. DH insists that his dad hasn't always been like this. I've warned DH that if he ever tries the cup trick he will get slapped.

Well, in the end last night wasn't too bad, DD1 didn't fall out of the bed again, and slept until gone 7! She hasn't done that for a very long time, it was so cute when she came into our bedroom this morning, saying 'Mummy, I just came to see you. Hello!'

A is being not so good at night though, she's got a real snot problem (teeth? probably). Settles well, sleeps well until about 4ish and then wakes, has a feed, settle well on me but struggles if I put her down again because of the snot. She still has pretty bad wind too, although since we started the infacol again she seems a bit better on the wind front.

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 22:42

texasghouldem i would have thought they all should be indoors with jammies on too. Teenagers I can understand at a push but not 5 & 7yr olds. Do you feel safe to stick your head out the door again? Or are they mouthy and is it likely to make it worse?

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 22:45

llare NS is still at the dreaming stage... DH has his pre course exam on tues so after that's out of the way we're going to get cracking.

flippineckitsabitspooky · 10/10/2009 22:49

Lots of x-posts, was v slow typing!

headless - woo (or woohooooo?!) at the weight loss, well done you.

texas - tough one. Is it a common occurrence?

No wine here, just a couple of beers.

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 22:50

I should say that he's been revising for the exam for a number of weeks now and he has to pass it in order to do the residential course that he has to do in order to keep his job! Bit of major stress for him as if he fails everything he'll be transferred to another revenue department Oh and the residential course means that he'll be away for 7 days from the 19th october and 7 days in november too. So i'll be doing the 2dc's completely on my own 24hrs a day during that time !!

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 22:52

I think this is my fav house find of the night... and only 30mins from DH's family in dartmouth.

texasghouldem · 10/10/2009 22:52

ethereal - no, they're not really mouthy, especially the 2 that are staying with their gran as it was them who said they would keep the noise down.

I haven't actually heard anything in the last 15mins so I hope they have gone indoors. Mind you last week, we heard the old woman from downstairs, chapping (very loudly!) on the door across the landing, and telling her grandkids (again really loudly!) to get downstairs, that was at 11.40pm!!!

I mean, who lets their kids out til that time . I can understand having a cheeky late night since its the weekend but thats a bit too late imo!

I really hope thats them all gone to bed otherwise I will just go straight to their doors (I'm not always this mean!)

thanks!

texasghouldem · 10/10/2009 22:55

flippineck - its starting to become quite frequent. I can understand kids making noise, its not really that thats bothering me, its more how late it actually is! I hope thats them gone to bed now though

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 23:00

texas we live in a flat too and get noise from above on occasion.. also in the indoor stairwell. Like you we don't mind it when it's daytime or early evening... but find it really annoying late on. Fortunately the flats above are rented so we can complain to their landlord about any totally unacceptable stuff... One time their telly was on so loud we could hear exactly the program they were watching!

llaregguBOO · 10/10/2009 23:06

Texas, what does it say in your lease/deeds? When I lived in my flat we had to agree not to make an unsociable noise. I'd pop over tomorrow and have a chat about how disturbed your children were and how they were begging you to let them out to play. You know, do it a friendly non-confrontational way and see where it gets you.

HeadlessLadyH · 10/10/2009 23:06

Hmm,

Back now.Just finished the XF, OMFG. Danni has just finished her career live on national tv. {shock} She must be kicking herself big style right now. What a fecking daft thing to say on live tv!!!!!!

texasif this was a one night thing (and it sounds like this is not the case!) I wouldn't be worried but if its happening lots, then perhaps a quiet word with either gran or parents in the morning would be in order? Sounds like they have probably run out of steam now though. Hope so and that you have a quiet night now.

llaregguBOO · 10/10/2009 23:09

I'm not convinced that Dannii said it because she's homophobic. I think she wanted to advise him not to change the gender in the song to appeal to the masses. I really can't imagine that Dannii is in the slightest homophobic, but her wording was clumsy.

texasghouldem · 10/10/2009 23:11

ethereal - oh its a nightmare eh!? We had that problem with the girl who lives below us. She was playing loud music really late at night and we took turns of going down to tell her to keep the noise down. She did, but continued to do it the following weekend . As her flat is council owned, we just complained to them. She then had a party on a Tues night so went down to her door again and then complained to the council again. She is good now, in that whenever her music is too loud and we go down to tell her so, she just turns it down straight away . We are selling up and buying a house next year and I am counting down the days!

Oh my posts tonight probably make me sound like a total bitch!! Im not really .

Anyhoo, think I better spend some time with DP (Im now becoming addicted to MN ). Going to watch family guy then off to bed!

Night night everyone

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 23:17

Night night texas hope your night is a quiet one

I'm off to dream feed g and bed too... night all xx

texasghouldem · 10/10/2009 23:21

llareggu - as we own our flat we dont have any lease so there's nothing about noise level etc but we have complained to the council before about the girl who lives below us as the council owns her flat. The family across from us and the old lady downstairs also live in council flats but wouldn't contact the council about it. If it happens again will just go directly to them. Just not sure why their kids were out so late

Scrap that - just went over the the woman across the landing. Honestly they were like a heard of elephants just there! When she came to the door I didnt even need to say anything, she just said 'too noisey?'. I just said 'yeah, I came out at 10pm to ask them to keep it down'. Think she has taken her DD in now so the other kids have hopefully gone downstairs to their grans now.

HeadlessLady - will hopefully get that quiet night now!

Arrrrrrgh!!! I think DD is awake!

Thanks for advice everyone

llaregguBOO · 10/10/2009 23:24

Texas, I owned mine too and there was something in the deeds about sharing the common parts of the building in a sociable way. I forget what exactly.

HeadlessLadyH · 10/10/2009 23:25

llare Dannii prob thought she was being witty or something. I don't think she is homophobic. I had no idea about what was in the papers about him. It makes naff all difference at all to his singing. Terribly misjduged and I think there will be repercussions.......

Stacey or Lucie to win!

Right. Off to bed now. Night all.

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 23:27

still here... texas are you in scotland then? when we lived in edinburgh our flats like everyone else's were freehold... we're now in england and they're pretty much all leasehold...

sausagemonstermash · 10/10/2009 23:28

Woooooooh!

I've SO missed ALL TELLY tonight - had a friend over babysitting M today whilst I studied upstairs, and then we had nosh. What did Dannii say??!!

Re trendyfriend. When I say popstars... well, a few chaps who were unsigned, she also actually officially went out with the drummer from Tindersticks (so much so that if you said my name to him, he'd know me!) (I went out with his flatmate, hehe) - he was also a Bad Seed a la Nick Cave.... ummm... she was also 'very close' to Jarvis Cocker, but that wasn't 'confirmed'.....! She's actually the one who's website I put on here a few threads back re the trendy teatowels and aprons and stuff. Have also found her newer website via her facebook page. God, she's cool. I still don't know what to do... mentioned it to my Mum, and she just said 'well, you can't invite her, it's getting too costly' then she comes out with the 'we're paying for it all' nonsense. Which they're NOT, and I pointed out that if money was an issue, I would pay for the whole thing tomorrow. That shut her up, and she changed the subject pretty quickly . Booooooo. I just don't want to invite her and then there be no room or something, making her feel awful . Think I will just email back explaining the whole thing. Tis pretty likely she may not be able to make it anyway. Feel like such a cow.

Have heard from dp once today - just to say that they are making him wear a wig!

Ethereal - ooooooh what a lovely house!!!! I'd be there tomorrow! Yay!

Texas - tis a difficult one, as everyone says, but agree that they should be in their jimjams - hours ago in fact! Like llare's idea of being non-confrontational, but agree it needs to be tackled.

Headless - a clanking-chains-wooooooooh re the weight loss! Sorry about my pizza tempting! Mean me!

Can't remember Grumpy's halloween name - but good grief - S has two teeth??!! Like, erm, OUCH?!

Getting a bit of a red wine headache.... - time for a dreamfeedy thing then time to hit the hay pour moi. Nnight all

EtherealFiByTheSea · 10/10/2009 23:29

right... must go... bonne nuit tous le monde
