OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DorisIsAPinkDragon · 12/10/2009 21:01

Hi all

Amy- we tried the hand prints but gave up footprints are a little easier as there's less to curl up. (we stuck the paper to a hardback book with low-tack/ easy peel tape, and dh held the book I I held the foot) Had to do it several times for footprints but then choose the best. With DD1 I scanned the image into the computer then used it on thank you cards. Now with DD3 still writing the bought thank you cards..... that says everything really!

PS Amy I'm in Plymouth if you need anything!

June- V jealous of your Holiday, we're due to go up north (well the Midlands is 'Up North' from here!) for 2 nights in a travel Inn and I'm already worrying about what we have to pack!!

Had more sucess with the vback garden today have finished all the patios and now just need to get topsoil and lawn laid which I'm hoping to order tomorrow, and had electricians round today to finish all the jobs that still need doing, just dreading the bills now but once it's done the house can be signed off with building regs!!!

Right off to write christmas cards for my Midlands based family to save on postage (times are 'ard 'ere!)

x Doris

Ps teething/ sleeping still a massive issue here so my sympathies everyone!

MrsMcJnr · 12/10/2009 22:10

Hey ladies, holiday here today ? national saint?s day (Pilar). Rearranged DS?s room so that he cannot get up to as much mischief when he is meant to be sleeping, we?ll see if my plan works.

Bunny- I didn?t mean to tarnish SG?s name I just studied forensic medicine at Uni and that used to happen a lot more than I would have ever thought in deaths of young, healthy people. We love House here too, why does everyone have to have lupus though?! Hope you managed to get some sleep last night.

Naat ? thanks for your support on the MIL front, DH is ok now but was very upset yesterday yup, the Christening is this Sat night with the party on Sunday. I have so much preparation to do for the party, doubt I?ll get on here much this week (or next with lots of family and friends in town). Hope you find somewhere lovely to live soon.

Ermintrude ? how I miss internet food shopping

Worried ? don?t lose hope over the house, we were marketing ours for 18 months before we sold it and the irony was we actually had people fighting over it in the end good luck! Changing agents could make all the difference. Cherish those youthful looks! Don?t know what to suggest for Caelan, Aaliyah chews in a teething ring quite well now but she is 17 weeks. Sounds like you have an even busier week ahead then I do, enjoy all that celebrating. I remember a friend (Aaliyah?s godmother actually) being really annoyed with me because I wouldn?t go to the cinema with her when DS was 2 weeks old, she just didn?t get that I couldn?t be away from him for 4 hours (as it would have been by the time I had got into town on the train and back home again!) I?ve tried those ink wipes to make hand and foot prints, they are pretty good. I went to a ceramic café with DS when he was this age and got a hand and footprint in clay, I wish I could do the same for Aaliyah.

June ? welcome back, glad you had a great time!

Ineedmore ? I can empathise, there are only a few shops in our village that I can go into with the double buggy. That said Aaliyah is refusing to go in it at the mo, she gets furious and bucks her back up until I relent and put her in the sling and then she is happy but we both get so hot. My DS makes such an awful mess of his room when I pit him in his room for a nap and often doesn?t sleep but I figure that it is time out for us both so still worthwhile. Bet you are looking forward to your night out!

Skillbo ? hello! I was given a foot casting kit for Aaliyah and haven?t got round to it yet, must do it soon!

Doris ? that was a lovely idea for thank you cards sounds like you are getting there with the garden! You are so organized ? I usually have a lot of Christmas shopping done by this time of year but not this year!

bunnymother · 12/10/2009 22:58

Worried - trust me, looking young beats looking old. I know because I used to look young for my age and didn't appreciate the gloriousness of youthful appearance. It's precious but temporary. I now look a bit haggard in the wrong light and have lots of sun damage (Aussie sun...). Don't wish away your frsh face. Those bridal shop assistants are like that w everyone. DH was v generous w my ring and I was on the other side of 30 so they should have thought I was worth kissing up to (I wasn't btw - am stingy) but I was sneered at too. Just hold your clear skinned head high. Right, time to hobble off the soap box!

Ermin - if I could only get a prescription from him, I would be set! Although my BIL is an anaesthetist and everyone knows they have access to all the good stuff! Surely they are due a visit soon...

Ineed- your insomnia sounds cruel! How mean is your body being?! I hope you slip into a deep long sleep tonight. Will a bath or Bachs flower remedy help? Have my fingers crossed for you!! X

Naat · 13/10/2009 09:57

Morning Juners!

Bunny, hi! Hope insomnia didn't ruin your night last night.

mrsmc, hope all the preparation for the baptism isn't too hectic for you. Don't worry about catching up, just come and post Sometimes Mila does the same with her pram but never complains about her sling, it's quite cold here though, so I'm not surprised body warmth is more appealing

Doris, yay, almost done with the patio!!! HOpe you get good weather today so as to put the cherry on top

Skillbo, sorry to hear your friend stood you up, did she call you at least? We did some prits and, as Doris said, we had to try several times and used the same book-underneath technique. Hands are trickier because when we took them she was not opening them that much. I'd be easier now

Ineed, glad to hear you'll be having a night out on Friday

June, so glad you had a nice time on hols. And good to hear Calypso was so calm and happy on the plane.

Worried, the biggest at your agent's excuse for not uploading the correct pictures!!! OH MY GOD!! Useless man! So sorry to hear you're having a hard time dealing with them. You'd think they'd want to make a good job so as to sell quickly and get their commission Oh, I forgot in my previous post. Yes, I read something during the wkend about threads being deleted and a poster being banned (apparently for double ID) Sometimes there's lots of action on MN At first those tomee tipee soothers were too big for her mouth as well, but after a few days she got used to them and she was fine (then she didn't like them anymore ) Busy week you're having!!!

Ermin, hi! I sometimes use tesco delivery, it's so easy and convenient!

Quite cold up here today but the day is sunny. We're going for a cup of tea with a friend and her baby this afternoon. Lots to do around the flat + more calls to arrange viewings so must get going

Hope you all have a nice day, lovely Juners!!!

Waves!!!

June2009 · 13/10/2009 12:49

hey amy, we've also noticed our friends are changing.
I prefer hanging out with the women I met at antenatal courses as we're going through the same things.
Some of my other mates do try and understand the whole "baby thing" but I think it's hard to realise what it is really like until you have children yourself.
They'll call and say "so what have you been up to" and I'll be like, "oh you know, looking after the baby etc" and then they go "so, what else have you been up to"... (no, really, JUST the baby.)

About looking young, I used to get that quite a lot and it is annoying, people don't take you as seriously and sometimes that goes against you (like banks etc).
You can try and change your hairstyle, put some "grown up" make up on and dress a little older but at the end of the day you still want to be you and feel comfortable, don't you.

doris I saw a couple and a baby walk away from our flight with 2 cases only. I was amazed.
I'd packed 3 big cases and 3 "small" cabin ones, plus the changing bag/handbag.
It's really hard to know what to pack for baby clothes-wise unless you know what the weather/temperature will be like.
The hotel had a cot which was handy (otherwise we have a samsonite pop-up cot which is great and folds up really small).
I made a changing station on top of the chest of draws (just the right height) with a thick towel and a pampers changing mat.
We had the steriliser with us and a brush and we took a foam mat and the baby gym. A friend of ours out there lent us a baby relaxer so C. could sit down from time to time which was nice to have but could have done without.

For baby food I'd read that we could use boiled Evian to make bottles but it gave c. the runs. We found out that you can buy "baby water" out there (basically spring water) and we tried that and c. was absolutely fine with it.

I went back to the doctor again to discuss contraception as I keep forgetting to take my mini pill on time and dh is fed up with condoms. GP said I cannot have the combined pill as I am overweight. (I have been bigger than this and been on the combined pill.)
He again has suggested the injection.
What are you guys doing for contraception?
I want to loose the weight really but I have no idea where I could find the time to exercise??

right baby up, food time!

worriedamy · 13/10/2009 13:54

june thats so true about looking young... I know everyone says make the most of it, its good to look young etc etc, but no-one takes yous seriously!! I just look like some kid who doesn't know what they are talking about! Especially if I have my hair tied back! Like speaking to the estate agents about selling the house- I just know when I go in they just try and dismiss me; just see me as some young kid with a baby, just like all the other teenage mums around here, and don't give me the time of day!

I got the mini-pill aaaaages ago at my 6-8 week check thing but haven't started using them yet. To be honest, I was put off a bit when it said you may not have a period while having the pill, or you could have a period at any time... don't think I like the unpredictability of that!!

MrsMcJnr I hear Stephen Gately died of 'too much fluid on his lungs', choking on his sick?! Not nice...

I have to say, looking at the reporter in Majorca, the weather does look raaather nice, lovely blue sky. I so miss going on holiday this year!! I have to say I picked up maybe a tinge of homesickness from your recent posts? Sorry if I'm wrong x

I really hope you are right about the house, its starting to really bug me I think we must have chosen the worst time ever to move house!!!

Naat So has Mila gone off the dummy soothers now? How strange! I read something yesterday about putting an ice cube, or crussed ice in a muslin square or a baby sock and letting him chew on that... how would I go about sterilising the ice-cube trays and stuff to do that? I have to say, there have been a few things recently which have made me question the extent of sterilising, and its validity? Caelan puts that much in his mouth now that is soooo not sterile, his dummies must be the only sterile thing he has!! All the swimming pool water he must drink, and bath water?! Surely not sterile?!

Doris- DP's son is at the Navy training place at Talpoint (I think thats what its called!!), is that by you?! One thing I will ask though... do you need to get the ferry across? Is it easier? Also, are there many places to stay around there? His date for passing out keeps changing, but we need to book a hotel for the Thursday night, before he passes out on the Friday.

Skillbo- so annoying when people don't turn up when you have arranged something isnt it expecially when you have to arrange feeds/ naps around the meeting!!

lol bunnymother thanks for the bridal shop pep talk!!

I hear Spandau Ballet are getting back together... a bit before my time, but have respect for Tony Haddley (is that how you spell his name). My mum and a few other members of our family have Huntington's Disease, and he is hosting a fundraising even in Liverpool in a couple of weeks to raise money for it. Spandau Ballet might be performing too- its a major coupe for a lesser-well known but very deserving charity!! He is doing a meet and greet beforehand too, and not asking for a penny, very good I think!! As it is a lesser-known charity, it usually v v v difficult to get anyone like this to help raise any money, everyone at the support group is excited!!

Pretty busy for the rest of the week now!! From now until Sunday will be out of the house each day... makes a change from being stuck in the house all day!! Its either a million miles an hour here, or super snail pace!! Hope you all have nice days!! xx

bigcar · 13/10/2009 14:03

afternoon all

really don't know where the time is going at the moment!

littles, sorry to hear about your mum, hope the side effects aren't too bad

stawberry, sorry to hear about your dhs job, hope something turns up soon

worried, my dd1 has the same problem, she has to take her id every where, I keep telling her, when she's 40 and looking 30, she'll absolutely love it!

june, glad you had a good holiday

MrsMcJnr, we love House but don't have sky My mil has lupus, we panicked the first time we saw someone on there dying but it's not life threatening for her at all. Hope the preparations are going well for the christening.

After a bad week or so of not sleeping well, Edward has settled to sleeping through again, yay He's a lot happier on his tummy now and loves rolling over from his back but starts to look a bit put out after a while, hasn't figured out rolling the other way yet, so funny some times

bigcar · 13/10/2009 14:14

worried, x posts! Spandau Ballet, soooo my time, I used to have them all over my wall love them [showing age emoticon] hope the do makes a lot of money, anyone my age would be there like a shot, unless they were a Duranny of course I wouldn't bother sterilising ice cube trays, just make sure they are covered when in the freezer, you could use cooled boiled water as you would for making up a bottle.

Naat · 13/10/2009 14:24

Bigar, you sneaked into one of my dreams last night You were with Oprah, on her show, I don't remember what you were talking about but I remember telling my DH (in the dream) "that's bigcar" LOL Glad Edward is sleeping well again xxx

bigcar · 13/10/2009 14:44

naat, hope it was some thing scandalous

worriedamy · 13/10/2009 15:08

lol naat dreaming about MN!! Bigcar you must be flattered!! I just looked at your profile- your dd1 is only 4 years younger than me

ermintrude13 · 13/10/2009 18:40

Hey all
in haste - bigcar My friends got married in January this year and Tony Hadley was their wedding singer! He sang 'Rio' which was a bit odd . But we screamed like it was the eighties

daisy5 · 13/10/2009 20:53

Hi all

Just a fleeting visit....no time to post, except I just wanted to say....

Clearly our babies are continually stuffing unclean things in their mouths from the floor...however....I thought the importance of sterilising is more because milk is an easy carrier of some really nasty bugs.

littlesarah - sorry to hear about your mum.

lol

MrsMcJnr · 13/10/2009 22:41

Hey ladies managed to double book two playdates today with Mums who don?t like each other ? whoops!

Bunny ? 18 years in Scotland certainly slowed down the ageing of my skin!

Naat ? too busy thinking about the christening to actually do any preparation

In a bad mood with DH, he hogged the PC for 3 hours this evening playing bouncing balls on FB and is now not speaking to me as I requested some time online myself. His new attitude (after finding a letter I drafted but didn?t intend to give him) has lasted less than a week

My grandparents arrived today for 10 days (staying at my Mum?s) and it was lovely to see them with my DC. Loved seeing my Gran cuddle Aaliyah ? her namesake

June ? hey there there is baby water here too but I thought it was a gimmick!

Worried ? this is home really, I?ve lived in lots of different places and my folks are here and have been for 25 years. There are certainly things I miss about Scotland. Was there 18 years and do love the country but not the weather!! I?ve been to Talpoint but it was years ago. Good to hear about TH supporting charity.

Bigcar ? I know what you mean about the rolling over! Glad to hear Edward is sleeping better. Aaliyah slept 8-12 then 1-7 last night so not bad at all. Another Spandau era lady here!

Ermintrude ? your friend?s wedding sounded fabulous!

Daisy ? that is my understanding of why we sterlise and why I still do it with DS?s bottles etc.

Wishing everyone a restful night

LittleSarah · 13/10/2009 22:48

Hey

Just a quick post.

Dd's behaviour seems to have improved, saw her teacher today and she said whatever we have said has helped. I'm trying to probe more about her day although she doesn't appreciate it. I ask her and she says stuff like 'I don't want to talk about it now, I'm tired'. However she will then volunteer stuff like counting in twos, etc.

Alex is well, still waking at night and definitely teething. I got him these teethers from Mothercare but he still much prefers biting down on my fingers!

Thank you for all the kind comments about my mum, she is coping with the radiotherapy okay and hopefully it will be enough, I can't imagine life without her.

I'll be online tomorrow and catch up better then!

lauraloo09 · 14/10/2009 08:34

hiya everyone feel soooo bad for not being on of late and esp when i'm going to be selfish and ask for help!

I am back on the pill and it is my 7 pill free days this week which means period time, however i'm now at day 3 of 7 free pill days and still no period, took a test yesterday and negative but it wasn't first morning urine. Is there any chance this could mean i'm pregnant or am i worrying over nothing?!

I am also seeing a psychiatrist for my PND as it's not getting better, not on tablets yet but maybe close to them. Sarah doing well sleeping a bit better although teething is keeping her awake at nights sometimes.

I am hoping everyone and babies are ok, littlesarah just quickly saw from your last post your mum is having radiotherapy I hope and pray she is ok x

Naat · 14/10/2009 09:52

Morning all,

Laura, sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I have no idea about the pill, but I'm sure some other Juners will come with advice. (((hug)))

LittleS, glad to hear Ermin's advice worked and DD is doing better. My mum used to do this to me after church when I was little as I was always up there in my world and really distracted

Mrsmc, hope you manage to do everything You're having a pretty busy week. Sorry to hear about DH hogging the laptop. How's the diary-keeping going?

Daisy, hi! Yes, I think it's to make sure any milk traces are removed. How's Fraser doing with his wind? Any better these last days?

Ermin, no idea who all these people are but sounds like your friend's wedding was fun

Bigcar, no, nothing scandalous, I think you were a specialist on babies and were talking to her about that

Worried, yes, Mila takes EVERYTHING to her mouth these days

June, I also feel baby-less friends are different now. For starters, they're calling much less and I also see a LOT more those friends with babies.

Hi to all the rest of the Juners!

Sunny day here, let's hope it lasts all day We have 3 viewings arranged for Thurs, Fri and Sat. I'll try and arrange some more today.

Mila is 4 months old today!!

She has woken up, must run

Waves!!!

bigcar · 14/10/2009 10:03

morning all

worried, now I feel really old

daisy, I too sterilise anything that has milk in, although I think there is an argument against even doing that now, I don't think anyone in the US sterilises, tee?

MrsMcJnr, glad I'm not on my own there then Sorry to hear about your dh, how are you getting on with his diary? ((((hugs)))) How lovely to have family over, definitely a kodak moment

erm, I would have been screaming too, were you tempted to dance round your handbag Rio seems a very odd choice given all the rivalry at the time! You go to some lovely weddings!

littles, glad your mum is doing well My dd1 was the same when she started school, I was forever being called in to see the teacher at the start. She is a bright girl and was getting bored at the slow pace, all worked out fine in the end

laura, I'm trying to remember back a few years when I was on the combined pill, I think there was always a couple of days gap between last pill and period starting, other than that I'm not much help I'm afraid. Great news on the psychiatrist front, hope it goes well.

I spoke too soon yesterday, Edward was up in the night again last night seems to be teeth still that's bothering him, either that or dhs snoring

waves to all

bigcar · 14/10/2009 10:10

x posts naat! Have a look here apparently they are going to be shown on strictly on saturday House hunting sounds busy, hope something nice turns up. The weather here is overcast and damp, make the most of that sun

bigcar · 14/10/2009 10:20

Don't know if you've all seen this about cot death, thought I would link just in case

Naat · 14/10/2009 10:27

Yep, I read the same on The Times this morning, Bigcar. Thanks for the Spandau link, I'll have a look now.

Naat · 14/10/2009 10:33

Oh yes, Bigcar! I know them! Have heard their songs, but didn't cpnnect the name of the band with them... I thought they were a ballet group

June2009 · 14/10/2009 11:31

laura i usedto be on combined and my period came on quite late in the 7 free days, on day 5 or so and lasted until abut 3 days after i started the pill again.

June2009 · 14/10/2009 11:39

bigcar co-sleeping advice scares the shit out of me, we used to do it from time to time to settle C. but we don't do it any more at all which is a shame I think cause it was lovely.

ermintrude13 · 14/10/2009 11:54

laura no experience of the mini-pill, hope someone else can help.

The co-sleeping research does seem to point to areas of neglect/silly behaviour from parents who are under the influence or who drop off before making their babies safe. It even mentions swaddling as a potential danger and for some babies that's the only way of sleeping. Common sense will prevail.

Worried don't wish away your youth! Enjoy eing, and looking, young and having so many years ahead of you . I speak as someone who remembers Spandau Ballet extremely well the first time around and although I'm not yet wrinkly nobody faints in disbelief when they find out my age .

LittleS glad to hear DD is talking about school a bit more. Just to have you making references to what she's been doing there will reassure her of your engagement in it which might be all she needs.

Hi to everyone else. Must hang up washing before A wakes up.
