I've fixed it now so you can see some photos of my little man.

A day of whining that has deteriorated into an evening of tears....every half hour waking in tears. It finally became obvious it was teething so I've used Teetha sachets, some Dentinox gel and a teency bit of Nurofen to take the edge off the pain, but he is still unhappy. The top two seem to be where the pressure is, but they don't look close to coming through. I forgot how painful it could be for them.

I think this might explain some of the 'whining' over the past week mrsmcjnr - do you think it might be the same for you?

MrsMcJnr · 08/10/2009 22:39

Hey ladies sorry I haven't been around, have been busy. Will try to catch up but hope that you are all well x

Skillbo · 08/10/2009 23:16

Evening ladies

Hope that everyone is well. Just a quickie this evening as had a bad night last night - Jazzy awake and raring to go at 4am and didn't really settle again until 8 by which point had a small row with DP and a big blub .

Oh well, today was lovely compared to the last few of whinging and screaming. Agree with Daisy that it must be teething - am bloody well hoping so! Went to Baby Play and was complimented on how well Jazzy plays on her tummy - felt all proud!

Erm - am very jealous you don't have to worry abou RTW stuff yet... I think that might be one of the causes of my insomnia as worried about going back - mainly to do with feeding tbh. I am going to visit the bf support at the hospital next week and look into hiring an expresser to see how I get on... I have a manual one here but think the electric ones are the way forward but need to make sure I get the right one before I fork out for it.

Am definitely going to stick to my guns re the weaning as it's really important to me that we last the 6 months. Did have a giggle re the posts on baby drooling over food and watching like a tennis match - Jazzy does this which I am sure is where MIL's comments come from. Doesn't help that I seem to eat all day so giving her ideas .

Anyways, really keen to hit the hay so just to say hope we all get bucketloads of snooze tonight x

MrsMcJnr · 08/10/2009 23:43

Daisy ? sorry to hear Fraser is suffering with his teeth, they are definitely bothering Aaliyah. She loves it when I massage her gums poor little mite. I am finding feeding lying down far more successful this time round too, glad to hear that it is the no wind method for you!

Bigcar ? re those highchair liners from Ikea, I had enormous success outing mine in the washing machine! I remember being pretty worried the first time I found DS asleep on his front.

Naat ? lovely pic I too have resigned myself to being up twice in the night for now. It still kills me though. Happy belated anniversary! sorry to hear about your DH?s laptop. DH?s wedding ring was found it was in the kit bag! Must dig out DS?s rattle socks for Aaliyah; she is already interested in her toes.

Worriedamy ? I take DS swimming and the class before his is the new babies, I feel bad that I don?t take Aaliyah yet but there is no way he?d sit watching for ½ an hour, just too much to ask of a toddler! I found all your words about MH really helpful and insightful. I am still digesting what I have read and am keeping mood notes. Fabulous news on the wedding venue

Ermintrude ? lovely idea that new baby kit!

Doris ? hope there is more sleep going on in your house. I have that Ikea highchair for DS, I think it?s great.

Skillbo ? stay strong on the feeding front hon, your MIL?s keenness on weaning will where thin when she is wearing carrot and being asked to change the resulting nappies! So who is doing who on Strictly??

Hey there Ineedmore

How many times are the breastfed babies feeding each day? I am trying to work out if it is the heat that makes Aaliyah feed so much or if she just needs more than she is getting.

Thank you all again for your tremendous support and insight on the MH subject. I need to go to bed as it?s nearly 1 am so I can?t go back any further to catch up tonight but I am reading everything that you say and am taking it all on board x

MIL has shingles, has had it for 2 days and comes over here in 9 - she'll still be contagious won't she?

Morning all!

Strawberry, ouch, hope she settles without swaddling again soon!

Mrsmc, yay on finding the ring! Phew! Sorry to hear Aaliyah is having such a hard time with teething. Excuse my ignorance, but should your MIL fly despite still being contagious?

skillbo, on standing your ground re. weaning. Glad to hear you'll seek support for when you have to go back to work. Do you have to go back soon?

Daisy, lovely pictures! Sorry to hear yesterday poor little Fraser suffered badly with his teething. Hope you had a good(ish) night.

Bigcar, well done Edward rolling over! No such action here She doesn't like lying down anymore unless it's for sleeping purposes If I put her flat on her back she pulls her head up as if trying to incorporate herself which is absolutely impossible but poor little mite tries her best Should I help her "learn" how to roll over? or should I just let her be?

Worried, swimming does sound great. Glad to hear he enjoys it so much I must get on with the shopping part. What do baby girls wear (not that you have to know , it's a question for all Juners)? A swimming nappy and one of those warming suits? Or a swimming nappy and a regular swimsuit?

Ermin, hi! The "baby kit" sounds like a good idea, so lovely you all share things

Mila's awake now so one hand typing here. Quie morning, really bad weather and lots to do around the flat. Urgh, house-hunting again, not fun!!!

Waves to all!!!

Naat · 09/10/2009 09:37

I meant to ask, Tee, did you get an appt for Adam's MRI? xx

ermintrude13 · 09/10/2009 09:52

Hello All

Daisy v cute pics, I love his little skullcap of blond hair!

Skillbo I never liked the idea of electric expressers even though loads of women find them excellent - must be because I'm a control freak and liked to use a manual pump. I used to have 2 x 20 min sessions in a working day, getting 6oz each time to make 3. x 4oz bottles but my DD was only 4 months and not weaned so it will be different for an older baby who's eating some solids. Hope your work are supportive.

Worried 6oz from one boob . That's excellent yield! I'm sure Caelan is having as much as he needs; b/f babies tend not to overfeed so it's not likely that he's puking because of that, esp not that long after a feed.

MrsMc when my ma had shingles she banned all house visits from grandchildren until she was all-clear - think your MIL should check out the rules on travel and see how contagious it is. You don't want Aaliyah getting chicken pox.

Arthur breastfeeds a lot - just trying to count up from yesterday and it's hard because sometimes one feed just segues into another. Not as much as when he was newborn but I'd say he's having about 7 or 8 full feeds - ie both sides - during a 24 hour period, with the odd quick snack in between.

Strawb it's so maddening when you think you've reached a new stage and then find out it was only a blip. lol @ the babies ganging up to plot . It really does feel like that sometimes.

Naat I used to take DD in just a washable swim nappy from about 6 months but if your pool is chilly a swimsuit version might be better.

Must do boring chores now, hope you all have a good day xx

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 09/10/2009 11:02

Morning all...

Sorry to hear about MIL MrsMc - No knowledge of how long she'll be contagious, but I'd say a couple of weeks at least.

Got another long day today as DH is going to the theatre this evening.....

I'd say DD feeds about as much as A, ermin - lots of snacks in-between too. No pattern to the feeds, but every 2-3 hours in the day then one at night...

Right, enjoy your day girls xx

worriedamy · 09/10/2009 11:31

Morning!!

ermin I have always been told that you can't over-feed a breast-fed baby too, but Caelan doesn't seem to feed like other breastfed babies I hear about!! He only feeds maybe 6 times a day, and obviously I dont know how much he is having, but the last couple of times I have left him with my sister this last fortnight, he has been having 8 ozs bottles and having it all in 10-15 mins with a slow flow teat?? I was always under the impression that breast-fed babies fed more 'little and often'?? The milk I express if whats left after a feed also, so its not as thought its the watery milk?? Could he be over-feeding? When he is sick it doesn't seem to bother him, so I can't see it being reflux or anything like that, and when he is sick, you can tell him stomach has started working on it because (sorry TMI!!) its all cottage cheesey!! I really hope its not lastose intolerance Are these things genetic??

MrsMcJnr What about getting DH to come swimming with you so he can occupy DS1 while you have a bob with Alliyah? Like I was saying, Caelan feeds usually 6 times a day, and is going about 8-10 hours at night, so in the day he feeds every 2-3 hours. If your feeding Alliyah more often its probably because of what you said before maybe- about it being hotter, and your milk being really watery to begin with?? Maybe Alliyah is just thirsty, and then is quite comfy so hangs around for a bit??

StrawberrySam The lessons are great, they are designed for babies 0-12 months! We do lots of singing, lifting babies in and out of the water (this is when Caelan shorts fill up with air!!), play with floats and toys, its really good. And they have this hoop with lies about a foot under the water and you hold your baby under their arms and put them under the water, through the hoop and let go!! It is pretty scary, but they all swim up to the surface and then you catch them! Its so cute so see their faces when they come out, they all look a bit startled, but they dont cry!! Its good for them to get used to going under the water!!

Naat My friend who has a 9 week old puts her baby girl in this costume and Caelan wears these shorts. Bless him, those shorts are huge on Caelan!! They only start at 3-6 months, and he is still in newborn/ 0-3 months on his legs (3-6 months on his body though!!). He has really small legs, bless!! They hang off him a bit, but I put a disposable swim nappy under his shorts for two reasons... 1. because I dont believe that those other shorts will offer much protection when it comes to a poo explosion and 2. they bulk out his shorts a bit so they don't fall down!!! Check with the baths... ours advised a costume and a swim nappy, so maybe the pool is one of the colder ones?? It seems quite warm to me, but then again, I'm not a teeny baby!! You should go for it, the babies love it!! I love to look at your pics of Mila, she looks so similar to Caelan sometimes!! There is a pic of her, I think in her bumbo on her mat, and she is clasping her hands and pulling them to her face exactly the same way Caelan would!! So cute!!

daisy I still can't see your pictures??

skillbo let me know how you get on with the electric expressers... I have a tommee tippee hand pump with takes ages, so I hand express now which is easier and faster (?!), but I hate having to arch over a freezer bag for 20 mins, it kills my back!!

bigcar sorry for 'dissin' Strictly, I know you are a bit of a mega-fan!! I just think its soooo boring!! And big woops for Edward and showing off with his rolling! Now he's started, there will be no stopping him I'm sure!! I didn't believe how early people book up the venues for weddings, thats why I was amazed we managed to get our venue with only 10 months () to go!! It must have been fate though- if we had been more organised and gone in to speak to them a month ago, the date would have been booked as the other couple wouldn't have cancelled yet! Yey for being unorganised!!

Hope you all have a good Friday- I love Fridays, my favourite day of the week! Prawn Chow Mein for tea tonight, luuuuuurvely!! And only 5 1/2 points on the weight-watchers!! I am now back to pre-pregnancy weight, but still want to shift another stone and a bit until I will be where I want to be for the wedding!!

worriedamy · 09/10/2009 11:34

sorry, x-posts with ineed!!- how did it go last night with DH working late?? Bet you are looking forward to the weekend and sleep!! I was saying to DP the other day how I must be getting old- I used to look forward to Saturdays for going out and clubbing, getting drunk etc etc!! Now I look forward to them for the lie-in and complain how there is no good telly to watch!! Oh the shame... where has my party life gone!!

bigcar · 09/10/2009 14:30

afternoon all

daisy, lovely pics, hasn't he grown

skillbo, hope you managed more sleep last night! Edward didn't go to sleep until midnight, teeth are really playing up, teething gel wasn't much use so gave him calpol in the end.

MrsMcJnr, pleased the ring has turned up Edward is feeding roughly 8 times a day, he only likes one side at a time he feeds more in the evening and apart from teeth, usually means he sleeps better I think shingles is like chicken pox in that once all the spots are out and have scabbed over then you are no longer contagious, she definitely shouldn't be considering flying if she still is. It's not so much a risk for her but would be really serious for anyone else travelling who is imuno suppressed, never mind that you could do without your los catching chicken pox! I think on strictly it is supposed to be Ali and Brian and Jo C and Kristina that are supposed to be at it

strawberry, lol at your los ganging up

naat, Edward has been rolling onto his side for ages, it was just the last little bit he couldn't do, occasionally we would hold his hand to pull him over but I don't think that made a huge difference, he did it when he was ready Dd3 wears a long sleeve/leg sun suit when we go swimming but our pool is not very warm.

worried, I'll let you off for the strictly comments All of mine have been sicky babies (cottage cheese included!) what it's down to I couldn't say, not always wind, my mum always used to say their eyes were bigger than their bellies! Lactose intolerance it isn't for us but could be for Caelan, would it be worth you keeping a diary of what you eat to see if it's affecting how sick he his? How did the football training go, not too achey I hope?! Any ideas on wedding dresses yet?

waves to all

MrsMcJnr · 09/10/2009 17:34

Hey ladies, dr told me categorically this morning that it would be very dangerous for Aaliyah and DS to be in contact or even in the same room as MIL with her shingles for at least another 18 days and that she should not fly and put other passengers at risk either. Have broken this to DH and have left him to tell her, oh dear lots of very sad relies . Dr was angry that I have not had DS inoculated against chicken pox but I am against injections for minor illnesses, maybe I am being silly? It also costs 100 euros! all was good with Aaliyah at her appointment. She is 6.92kgs and 67cms. Catch up later

Tee2072 · 09/10/2009 17:42

Hi all

No time to catch up, just wanted to say hi!!

So...hi!

I'll try to catch up this weekend!!

worriedamy · 09/10/2009 18:55

bigcar There is a wedding dress sale on around here at the end of the month, where they have all the samples, window display dresses, end of line etc etc, so going to have a look what they have got there!! They might have a bargain, lol!! I like this kind of style, but this particular dress is over a grand too expensive for me unfortunatley!! We are going for an aubergine and cream colour scheme too, I am actually starting to get a bit excited now!! Training wasn't too bad I suppose, but had to sit out a lot stomach muscles started to hurt, so maybe I have got to take it easy!!

MrsMcJnr with regards to the vaccination for chicken pox, as long as DS doesn't have a supressed immune system for any reason, I can't see that a dose of chicken pox will do much harm? I can't see that a vaccine would be that necessary? Or does the vaccine cover other things too?? We dont have anything similar here do we?? Aaliyah's growing fast isnt she!! Thats a shame about MIL, she must be so disappointed And DH must be so disappointed to

Hi Tee

No prawn chow mein after all boo...

daisy5 · 09/10/2009 21:33

I hadn't heard of a chicken pox vaccination. I purposefully picked it up from someone else when I was 12 so I would be off school for the last 2 weeks of term. I got it up my lady place and it was a real mess. I lost 1 stone because I was too embarrassed to tell anyone and it was too painful to go to the loo so I stopped eating and drinking.

But really - it's no major disease is it? Just a temperature, a few spots and a week or two at home? I thought the only concern was if a mature man got it - impotence possibilities?

Thanks bigcar - he has grown. Already 3-6month tops are too big and he was in a 6-12month suit today that he fitted comfortably - which I find disturbing (and expensive!).

WorriedAmy - I added you to my friends list so you should be able to see it now.

Night all.

LittleSarah · 09/10/2009 22:01

Hello

Sorry for not posting in a few days. Have been busily organising applications and CVs. This one job I have applied for had the most ridiculously comprehensive application form! Even my mum, who is management and has applied for many senior positions (and got a couple!) couldn't believe what they were asking. It will certainly cut out any time wasters! Anyhoo, that is two off now, I'll let you know how I got on.

Sadly it seems my darling daughter is perhaps not the conscientious student I was hoping for. On Thursday after school her teacher came to talk to me (very nicely) about encouraging Molly to listen as she has had some trouble with telling the class to do something and then turning round and finding Molly has wandered off. Oh dear. It is one of these things where I immediately think oh no! What have I done wrong? And then for me I remember my brother - now a juvenile delinquent - and fear that she is starting out as he did. I'm sure it is not a big deal and she is not naughty, just in her own world I think, but still, how to handle? I talked to her about listening and after a couple of minutes she was all 'I know mummy, I heard you already', so she listened to that at least! I'm hoping she is just not used to work part of school. She had the strcutured day thing at nursery but there wasn't the work part. Hopefully I won't be one of those parents who dreads parents' night!

After a good couple of weeks I had a fairly horrendous driving lesson today. Started stalling at junctions more and so on and was too heavy on the brake. Although she did introduce new braking rules, braking without clutch a little when going faster and only doing clutch brake immediately when going slow so I got a little fraught! Luckily at the end I did some fairly decent 3 point turns and then drove back home without an issue!

Worried - That dress is lovely! Any chance you can get something similar cheaper? I'm so lucky my best friend's mum made my dress for the cost of the material. this one, except in cream Well done with training! I am also young (I think... 27??) and like Strictly, but I used to dance all the time when I was younger, ballet, jazz and flamenco so I am a big dance fan. I do like X-Factor too so think we'll be watching it back online.

MrsMcJnr - Alex feeds loads! Definitely at least eight times a day like the others. Let's say he has four feeds from 7pm until 9am, gosh, actually he probably then has six feeds or so the rest of the day! He is quite snacky, perhaps I should be stricter! Glad the ring has been recovered but very sorry about your MIL, poor lady!

Daisy - Hope Fraser's teeth come down gently. Alex does seem interested in my food but not sure whether it is hunger or just the fact he is interested in anything! I was drinking tea today and he was fascinated, probably best not to introduce him to that anytime soon though . Will see how it goes, I think we should at least get to five months without solid but after that who knows?

Naat - Good luck with the house hunting! Poor you! I remember when you first broached the topic of moving when 9 months pregnant, it all seems so long ago!

Bigcar - Yay Edward rolled! Alex seems to be getting there but still no joy, or 'nae joy!' as we used to say as teenagers. I'm sure he'll get there soon enough, the big lump!

Hello to everyone else, I hope your weekend are wonderful

LittleSarah · 09/10/2009 22:04

Doris - GREAT high chair advice! Last time I got the cheapest one from John Lewis and it was fab. As all John Lewis stuff is.

MrsMcJnr · 09/10/2009 23:14

Latest on the shingles fiasco ? SIL is trying to play it down and says MIL is no longer contagious ? such crap
Hey Littlesarah ? sounds like you have had a productive few days
Daisy ? I had chicken pox when I was 12 too, very badly but poor you, nothing like what you had. I was living in Spain then too and got gammaglobin shots everyday, I hated them but I don?t have a single scar. Apparently the injection was formulated in America to enable parents to go back to work sooner when their kids had chicken pox! Though a minor childhood illness it can be very serious in babies and lead to encephalitis and has also been linked to Reye?s syndrome.
Worried ? that?s a lovely dress I was drawn to similar dresses (have a look at my wedding photos on FB) I got my dress from Berketex. I had a Spanish lace veil instead of a bolero. I loved wedding planning, it was so much fun! DH would love to come swimming with us but can?t due to work
Bigcar ? thanks for sharing the Strictly chat LOL at the cottage cheese; I know exactly what you mean!
Ineedmore ? hope your day wasn?t too long hon!
Hi Tee and StrawberrySam
Thanks for all your info on feeding, it sounds like Aaliyah is feeding as many times as the rest, that?s good to know
Naat ? hello there
Looking forward to tomorrow, we are off to the Mother, Baby and Toddler show
I am waking up in the night in puddles of milk in spite of breast pads and a nursing bra; it?s getting me down, any ideas on how to keep dry?

MrsMcJnr · 09/10/2009 23:23

Found this on another thread and was very amused so thought I would share www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoRcU0Ul7tU

daisy5 · 10/10/2009 05:03

For two nights, Fraser has woken wide awake at 5.00 (yesterday) and then 4.00 (today) and is chattering away, not interested in milk, and doesn't want to go back to sleep I've got him in the swing chair in a dark room, to lull him back to sleep, but nothing else would work.

I assumed it must be his teeth bothering him, but really there is nothing to indicate that it is. Any ideas?

littlesarah - Bright children often appear as though they aren't paying attention because they understand quickly what the teacher is talking about and so their attention begins to stray.....so it's the boredom factor. Might that be part of it?

mrsmcjnr - I didn't realise. I can see why you want to keep MIL away. Such a shame.

Great YouTube link - slightly disturbing!! Did you ever see the Pregnancy Song that I attached a link to here a month or two back.

For all those talking about babies being sick, Fraser suddenly started being very sick after drinking....it carried on for a month or so, but has all but stopped now. My health visitor said so many of these things just suddenly stop when they start eating solids. I have wondered if it is a slight milk intolerance, especially given the colic he had.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 10/10/2009 07:30

Morning all.

After a few nights of one wake up, DD was back to waking very 2-3 hours... I'm knackered! So I've left her in bed with DH to come and quickly have some cereal, before back to bed for some serious shut-eye....

Sorry to hear about DD, littlesarah - I am a teacher, and I can say that it is early days yet. She hasn't criticised her for her behaviour as such, just the listening thing, and that can be hard to adjust to at first, if she's not used to the class structure. How old is she?

Anyway, off to sleep now xx

ermintrude13 · 10/10/2009 11:39

Morning all

MrsMc sounds like your SIL is in denial about your MIL. Some people can't deal with disappointment in a reasonable way! Hope the situation sorts itself out OK.

That video is horrid!
Don't have any suggestions about stopping milk leakage I'm afraid - not a problem for me this time, and with DD and DS1 I just had to lie my top half on a towel and change it regularly.

worried lovely dress .

Daisy5 Like bigcar, the fact I've had a previously sicky baby (DD) makes me a bit laissez-faire about A puking. His is sometimes fresh milk and sometimes cottage cheese if it's a bit after feeding. He's not at all bothered and I've found those bandana bibs v useful for catching most of it, so am not at all concerned. They'll be weaning in the next few months and DD certainly settled after that. I know a few incorrectly diagnosed lactose intolerances - some docs seem to love diagnosing it .

LIttleS, I think it's worth thinking about the reasons for DD not listening, as Ineedchoc suggests. It could simply be that she's younger than some of the others, or just taking a while to make the transition into school life. As long as she's not actually misbehaving or unhappy I'm sure she'll settle. Maybe you could make sure you have some time to talk to her about her day in detail and that might encourage her to paying more attention with a view to telling you later. I know that sounds a bit far-fetched, but when I started asking DS1 specific questions about his day, my interest in it seemed to make him a bit more aware of what was going on, and that it was important to listen.

(Now he's 7 and I ask him what he did at school he just says. 'Same as usual, played and wrote. What's for tea?'? )

Hi Naat, Strawb, Doris, Tee. Skillbo and everyone else
