next not nex
and damn! I missed the perfect opportunity to use whilst

aubergenie · 22/10/2009 09:17

Oh Star, you're making me feel very inadequate. All I've managed to do is burn some rice pudding that I was making for S to have tonight. Let us know how the sweet potato cakes come out. I've got some that need using up and might give them a try.

CSWS - How's D this morning?

S is still asleep. He's not himself, poor chap. His head keeps getting really hot and his cheeks really red. He went to bed OK, but woke up screaming at about 10 and when dh went to pick him up he clung on to him really tight like a baby monkey. He slept reasonably well in the bed with us, obviously needs to rest.

to the North South divide. I'm a southerner but dp's a Yorkshireman and he lives in horror that S is going to end up talking like a cockney.

star6 · 22/10/2009 09:21

aubergenie - just wait until next week when you're on half term
Poor S Maybe he just has a little bug that needs sleeping off?
Sweet potato cakes are delicious! I recommend cooking them ON the stove, though instead of in the oven. I cooked 2 on the stove and the rest in the oven and the ones cooked on teh stove are much much much much tastier I put wholemeal flour in with the potato and egg mixture and a tiny sprinkle of nutmeg.

Q is down for his morning nap now. We're going to a friend's house with a 10 month old for lunch. so I hope he gets in some good sleep before then!

star6 · 22/10/2009 09:32

I spoke too soon! Q decided he didn't want his nap yet, after all. Well, I hope he can make it through lunch...

How far is DS' preschool, myjob? I just didn't see any schools on my way there - you must have to walk a long way!
Q wants to eat constantly today. I feel like I should just let him because he ate nothing for those few days. His good eating all started back with Leon - another reason to go back there
I remember you saying ronshar that your DD goes through phases of eating and not eating, so I guess it's normal. But I should probably not just allow him to eat all day, right? But then babies can't overfeed, is that correct? How old are they when they can over feed?
ahem... except little N of course. dainty little N could eat all day long and she's so tiny and beautiful!

Oh Pistachio.
I'm am so so sorry, but I had such a big giggle at your description of how that happened. It sounds like a cartoon

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2009 10:11

What a mixture of mornings we're having.

D isn't great actually Aubergenie - thanks for asking - though I don't think it's related to the dishwasher tablet, and rather to whatever was causing him to be a grump and not eat yesterday. He was up for a feed at 1:30 and had a cry after I'd fed him (was fine whilst being held) and then up at 5:45, when I thought I'd bring him in with me for a snuggly feed and sleep, but sadly the sleep bit didn't happen . He fell asleep on way back from school run though, so is now napping in car.
He has his audiology test at 12 today, and we were going to go to toddler group for an hour first, but we'll have to see what time he wakes up now.

pistachio - not waking up til 8:15 sounds very productive to me!

star - let him eat all day if he wants to, as long as it's not just biscuits and crisps and sweets, which I doubt you give him anyway!

MM - did we know that you were going on holiday? I have clearly forgotten if so. Where are you off to?

Ds passed his hearing test (as expected), but wasn't happy about leaving toddler group to go there - screamed full on for a full 10 minutes.

Just a quick one again until later, while I remember it....

CSWS - Did you see that wall of girl's tights at H&M yesterday? If not, I am going back to H&M tomorrow (the jumper I picked up for ds had a sticky lable on it saying 6-8 years but the tag was 4-6! Doh!) so I can look for some tights for dd if you'd like.

aubergenie · 22/10/2009 18:46

I made those sweet potato things today too. A big hit! Thanks for that recipe, 50ft.

I'm glad ds is OK Pistachio. I'm convinced the same thing will happen with us and it's only a matter of time. That or smack his head on a doorframe as he lunges to the side.

Hearing Star talk about 50ft's ds's teacher reminded me of someone one of the students on my PGCE course was placed with. Apparently she would lift her leg up and stamp on the desk just in front of the children's faces to get them to pay attention. What makes it even worse is that she was teaching in year one!!

I swear S did his first sign today, for milk, as that's the only one I've really used with him consistently. In retrospect it would have been better to teach him a different one, as he's able to make it perfectly clear when he wants milk by toddling over and trying to lift up my top!

star6 · 22/10/2009 19:01

lol aubergenie about S's way of getting milk
about that teacher! oh my goodness!

Those sweet potato cakes are awesome. I'm making some more tonight to freeze and some other stuff. I'm putting spinach in this batch as Spinach and Sweet Potato are two foods with loads of nutrients

I made a cake for DH and I, too And loads of risotto to freeze leftovers (got the idea from an MN thread about freezing food). I'm so excited about this new realization of freezing.
I'm feeling like Betty Crocker

star6 · 22/10/2009 19:16

Well, Q slept uncharacteristically very little today. He had an hour in the morning and about 45 minutes in the afternoon. I know this is more than some of your DC sleep, but for him, it's so not enough... and it showed... he was so overtired that the stretch between 5pm-6.30pm was nearly unbearable. He's been fast asleep for 40 minutes now, so fingers crossed for better sleep tomorrow.

I don't know how all of you with non sleeping babies in the day do it! I really don't! My hat is off to you! I'm exhausted knackered!

csws - I cannot imagine D screaming and upset. I just can't. He's the most laid back, relaxed easygoing baby I've seen!

We had lunch with a friend today with a 10 month old DD. The little girl kept coming over to me and climbing up on me... Q started bashing her on the head with a book and later resorted to just peeling her arms away from me . I was touched that the was jealous, but sometimes I think I'm raising a spoiled child.

aubergenie · 22/10/2009 19:31

Freezing is definitely the way to go Star. I prefer to cook most things from scratch and it's the only way we manage it now that we've got S. That and the slow cooker - got a chicken and spinach curry in it as we speak.

S has got two top teeth now that definitely weren't through yesterday. Just discovered them this evening!

pistachio I was reading your post out loud to a friend and she had her hand over her mouth with a simultaneous look and a giggle. It's just the way you told it that was SO funny!

star6 · 22/10/2009 20:11

I'm going to try to convince DH to go to bluewater on Sunday . He's never been. I want him to just see it because we've never seen something so "american" in britain, before (this is a good thing by the way, that there aren't that many american things here!! That's one thing we really like about Britain ).

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2009 20:13

I know star - that's why it's so horrid when he is like this. Lots of screaming on and off today too, but happy in between . He has eaten more today though, which is a good sign.

No MM - how did I manage to miss a whole wall of them?! But don't worry - I'd want to browse and ponder about which ones and um and ah a lot, and since the pack of socks I got her in M&S are knee length instead of the ankle length that I thought I'd picked up, she can wear those to keep her warm instead!
She's very pleased with her pajamas btw .

Glad DD is pleased with her pj's csws Poor D What did NHS direct say about the dishwasher tablet?

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2009 20:21

They said that they are caustic, and can cause burning in mouth/throat, sickness, diarrhoea, allergic reactions inc swollen tongue and throat closing up..... - suggest you all keep your dishwasher tablets well clear of your little ones! We are thankful that D screamed (we think) as soon as he got a taste, and that we were able to react quickly.
