ronshar is weak (and slim ) star, so I'm quite sure that she will join you .

aubergenie - we still put ds' food on his highchair tray. I've very very occasionally given him a (suctioned) bowl, but they don't stay stuck for long so aren't very successful. If I load up a spoon for him then he will feed himself (but not all goes in naturally). And recently I've put some stuff on a fork for him, and he will feed himself that too, but hasn't mastered prodding the food with it himself.
I do have a friend whose ds was remarkably good at stabbing food with a fork by his first birthday, but I think that he is the exception.

Tbh dd still eats rather too much food with her fingers - not through lack of ability, but through sheer being difficult-ness!!

Wow pistachio, clever dd. She was obviously just taking it all in. I can't imagine S ever feeding himself - at the moment mealtimes are a whole body experience!

Those suction bowls are rubbish aren't they CSWS. I might try and invent one that actually works and go on Dragons Den and make my fortune.

aubergenie · 18/10/2009 21:34

And yes Star - we must get those boys together. Very at your meet up this week.

M is the same Aubergenie. She just about managed a bowl tonight without tipping it but that was unusual. If I give her a loaded spoon she flicks the contents on me, on the floor, on her head, on the wall etc etc. But it never goes in her mouth. I think DS started feeding himself with a spoon at 11 months too, but now he uses his fingers too often, just like CSWS's dd. In fact, this very evening he got a reprimand from his granny for eating mash with his fingers.

Myjob - Maybe you have a tummy bug. Hope you're better by Tuesday! M also tips lots of food on the floor.

Pistachio - I would love to come and visit you. Maybe in the spring we could come up to Scotland for a visit.

I forgot to tell you earlier. M was crazy as a loon this evening. She kept standing up in the middle of the room and screaming with joy. She then kept trying to walk but her top half was moving forward but her legs weren't able to keep up so, she kept falling on her face. She thought this was hilarious! She just kept doing it over and over, standing up then trying to walk. She managed to walk the length of the sofa without holding on but it was like DH when he's drunk. I have a feeling it won't be long now though........

50ftQueenie · 18/10/2009 22:33

Oh and please don't try to convince me to have a brownie Star. I really must lose weight and my will power is feeble in the first few days of dieting. I have to say seeing you last weekend has made me realise just how skinny I must have been a few years ago. I was a stone less than you! I don't think I will ever be able need to be that thin again.

Honeymoonmummy · 18/10/2009 23:22

Laughing at vision of M doing her drunken walk 50ft!

I am feeling much better now altho knackered (and can't believe it's gone 11 already!!!) DH has got it now altho his is "much worse" so he's been in bed for most of the day

Pops vomited this morning and has had nasty nappies today [bleugh] but she's eaten more today, altho her appetite is still not back to normal. I have to keep us in for 48 hours after the last vomiting or diaorrhea, or the NHS direct woman will hunt me down and kill me...

Oh re bowls etc, I went thro that phase with her about a month ago where she threw everything so I did the "No" and minutes silence thing, which worked but the last few days she's been throwing things again and I've let her cos she's ill Back to the grindstone tomorrow.

Anyway, she'll eat off a spoon if it's left in a bowl or on her tray already full, but she won't scoop it out yet. She's alright with a bowl but I normally keep a hand close just in case. I've not tried a knife and fork yet, should I get totally plastic ones or ones with metal at the ends? She has however just started helping me wipe the tray down after she's finished

Well done re your DH getting M to settle 50ft, my DH would definitely cave first in our house! [heartless mummy emoticon]

Honeymoonmummy · 18/10/2009 23:23

Oh and Pepper and Star - you did make me laugh

star6 · 19/10/2009 07:48

I, too used to be much thinner, 50ft. But have now given up getting back to that

Hmm Q wipes his chair down, too. That boy loves to clean!

I know kids who are 6 and 7 and even an 11 year old who still use fingers instead of forks when they can get away with it I think it's normal

I'm on holiday!!!
I've done so much cleaning this morning and Q has had a nap. He's being so cute today. I think we'll have a lazy day.... because we can

star6 · 19/10/2009 11:03

aubergenie - take a sick day and join us!!

Awwww Pistachio. I do know how you feel. I can't remember the last time DH & I had proper time together. I wanted to go away somewhere before M was born but he didn't manage to sort anything out. Sometimes you need some time being yourself rather than a 'mum'. Have you thought about going back to work? It might help you get your own identity back. It wears you down being so totally focused on the needs of very demanding little people.

star6 · 19/10/2009 12:01

Sorry pistachio. If it helps, I think I'd feel the same if I was at home full time. Also, DH is home at 4pm. We were going to go and do two quick errands, but he's sleeping AGAIN! He loves his naps

KSal · 19/10/2009 12:04

urg i feel yuck... its been more than a week now with this revolting cold... i think i may have sinus issues as i have a premanent headache on one side, but i'm not sure as i've never had it before!
I'm never usually ill for long!

Hope poppy is well and truly on the mend HMM, its horrible when babies are pukey

Emma is definitely in the walking club now, the second girl after P?? she's happily walking all over the shop now... next step is being abler to stand up without hanging on to something, she's having a go but no success yet.

We have bought her first shoes now, though, which are beautiful

it hink you should have brownie, star, and report back so we can enjoy it vicariously... i lost about 4 lbs in the last 2 weeks... only another 8 to go (can't help thinking i have set my target a bit low!!)

sorry i have failed to catch up properly with everyone...

star6 · 19/10/2009 12:04

If we had another, childcare would cost way too much and one of us would have to stay home, then we wouldn't have enough money for bills, mortgage, food...etc. So, one big fat reason for us to stick to one. We also both enjoy our jobs.

star6 · 19/10/2009 12:06

I find it difficult to believe that you could possibly lose another 8lbs ksal!

KSal · 19/10/2009 12:12

i mean pull up to standing without holding on.

pistachio... I know that i would struggle with being a full time stay at home mum. I was desperate to get back to work at 6 months. Knowing that makes me feel awful in many ways, but i think there is a balance to be struck. I'm not managing it at the moment (working full time is just too much)...

50ftQueenie · 19/10/2009 12:19

KSal - A couple of ways to test for sinus infection: a) tap the bone of your eye socket, just under and over your eye. If your sinus is infected it will be bloody painful! b) Look down, bending over as you do. If the pain increases in your face, then it is probably a sinus infection. Oh and if your snot is green or yellow that too is a sign of infection. How lovely, just in time for lunch. You could try steam inhalation or as CSWS said, try Olbas Oil. If nothing helps you might need anti-bs so get thee to a dr.

Ladies, I warn you now. I need to buy things on Wednesday so brace yourselves....... Only for the dc, so will need to visit - Monsoon kids, Gap kids, Baby Gap, H&M, M&S, John Lewis....... Oh and if anyone is planning to buy something from Monsoon for £3 or more, you can get £5 off if you bring an old item of Monsoon clothing.

50ftQueenie · 19/10/2009 12:20

Oh and KSal, M can stand up on her own anywhere but still isn't walking. Although she did walk across the room this morning. I say walk, I mean stagger......

KSal · 19/10/2009 12:44

yes, the leaning my head forward hurts... but the tapping doesn't particularly. I'll get the olbas into action when i get home!!

star i have plenty of spare! 8 lbs would just get me to the middle of the 'OK' range for my height, depressingly.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/10/2009 14:48

KSal - is it just cruising shoes that you've bought for E? Proper 'first shoes' shouldn't be bought until the child has been walking for 6 weeks, but shoe shops should advise you of this, so I expect you are aware.

Oh that shopping will be such a hardship on Wedns MM . Please remind me to get some plain white socks for dd whilst we are there, and to look at knickers for her in M&S. I want some that she doesn't feel the need to pull out of her bottom 100 times a day .

Oh ds awake -gotta dash
