Ouch! Could be something he's eaten or teething sometimes gives them a sore bottom because they swallow so much saliva and saliva is acidic. Have you given him anything different to eat? Any citrus fruit?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2009 20:12

Have you not tried metanium star - it's miles better than anything you mention for nappy rash. If it doesn't clear up with that then it could be thrush, which will need a trip to your GP.

OP posts:
50ftQueenie · 15/10/2009 20:20

I second that. Metanium is a miracle cream.

star6 · 15/10/2009 20:30

Is that just a normal one that I can get at the pharmacy... chemist? or do I need to see the GP for a prescription?

Honeymoonmummy · 15/10/2009 20:40

Hey all, Pops just been reeeeally sick, threw up her tea undigested, really vomity smelling, came up in big chunks and really upset her. She not got temp and not got any rashes. Seems very tired. Anything else I should be doing? Am going to shower now to wash off the vomit , will check replies inna bit.

star6 · 15/10/2009 20:45

Sorry about that HMM. How awful for you and Poppy. I have no idea what to do or why it happened (of course ). Just wanted to offer my sympathy.
However, I can offer that a vinegar/water mixture and some salt helps to clean up vomit and eliminate the smell very nicely. I follow it up with some ecover cleaner usually for a better scent (experience from primary school teaching).

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2009 20:46

I'd give her a nice bf and put her for a sleep hmm, and look in on her more often than normal. And if you have a monitor on her then turn up the sensitivity. I have heard dd throwing up on monitor before when dh was completely oblivious, and we wouldn't have had a clue were it not for my v attuned hearing.

star - get in chemist without prescription. Yellow tube.

OP posts:
star6 · 15/10/2009 20:47

Sorry. I'm sooooo lame. My only instincts are in the cleaning field. How unuseful.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2009 20:54

I was interested in your cleaning tip star . Am thankful that we don't have a lot of carpet in the house though, so hopfully we will never need it!

OP posts:
star6 · 15/10/2009 20:58

we don't have carpet either. I do in the classroom and it's necessary there. But also works on hard surfaces. Smells like vomit tend to linger on any surface. Yuck. I have used this cleaning remedy when DH was sick (before Q was born) after a night with colleagues at the pub

Honeymoonmummy · 15/10/2009 21:09

She's just outright refused the boob for the first time EVER She's gone to sleep in my arms in record time. Gonna try give her a dream feed instead around 10.30. Her breath stinks of vomit despite brushing her teeth poor thing. She's had some water tho and her fontanelle doesn't seem too depressed.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2009 21:14

Oh she's unlikely to get dehydrated that quickly hmm. Do you remember when ds was very little and he got slapped cheek - he was really ill and not feeding well for a couple of days before he even got close to being dehydrated. Dream feed a good idea though .

Poor ds isn't well at the moment. Not sure if it's teeth (which must be v close if it is), or something else. He does have a bit of a rash (similar to M's but nowhere near as severe), and he keeps waking and crying despite nurofen. Don't want another night like last night!

OP posts:
Honeymoonmummy · 15/10/2009 21:23

Thanks CSWS, yeah it's more that she'll have an empty stomach now and otherwise she'll wake in the night!

I'm off to clean the vomit out of the quilt and my bra (convenient for the carpet, not so for my bra) Thanks for the tip Star! I used to use bicarb of soda on the mattress when she had reflux badly, was just gonna do that again.

ronshar · 15/10/2009 21:31

I shall ask for admittance to the crap night sleep club. Nightmare last night. The only number I didnt see on the clock was a 2.

Myjob poor baby N. W has that cough, he goes bright red in the face and just when I think he is going to be sick he stops. I'm sure your mummy will give you lots of help.

CSWS, no I wasnt refering to anyone in particular as I couldn't tell you how old anyone is, just that lots of the ladies are younger than me! Honest.

Hmm, let p sleep, if she wakes then feed her but at this age they should be able to sleep all night even having missed a feed or two. Offer water as well as she made just want something easy.

Star metanium is fabulous. It used to be used on the old ladies/mens bottoms to stop the skin breaking down if they were bedbound. Poor Q tis horrid when they have sore butts. DD2 had a constant sore bum. Ended up with thrush cream as gp said it is the only thing to clear it up.
The really best thing is to toilet train. No more nappies.
I have read back tonight and you have all made me laugh. Thank you.

star, my vote is for metanium as well. excellent stuff.
myjob & HMM- sorry you're both struggling with poorly babies. There's so much going round at the mo. DD and DS2 are just getting over the cold/cough thing - DD threw up with all the snot, it was the only way she could clear it?
Just DS1 & DD on the calpol tonight, which is an improvement! As I have to go to work so early in the morning I have written DH a long list of potential variables for tomorrow. It's school photo day so he was going to take all 3 for a group shot (our first one ). BUT if DS1 is snotty and has a coldsore there's no point really! Also Ds1 has "show and share" at school, DS2 has colour of the week at nursery.
I have my appraisal at work tomorrow - on Day 6 in the office!

pepperrabbit · 15/10/2009 22:01

Ahem, ronshar, I'm 40 - thought I was one of the old birds on this thread!

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2009 22:09

pistachio - has she gone into tights? If so, they could be making it harder for her to get herself undressed for the toilet.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 15/10/2009 22:14

DS1 regressed his first winter - he said it was "too cold" to pull his trousers down .

Honeymoonmummy · 15/10/2009 23:47

Meh. Poppy's just had another vomit-fest. Thankfully I had one of DH's t-shirts on this time I'm gonna set my alarm every hour (on vibrate) just to check on her and sleep in her room tonight.

Poor love still didn't want mummy milk or even water this time and just wanted to go back to sleep. Still no temp. The tea was something new so maybe reacted to something in it.

She still sounds chesty like there's more to come so I've raised the head of her cot a little more than usual and laid her on her front/ side rather than her back. Does that sound right?

I'm off to bed now anyway but will check answer when I'm (undoubtedly) up in the night. Thanks for your help CSWS/ Star and I'll read back on the funny thread tomorrow!

I'm not taking my AD's tonight because they make me sleep really deeply, won't hurt for one night. God I'm knackered already, DH did his back in the other day and I've been doing all the lifting/ bathtimes etc for the past few days. Went to docs today and they told him pulled muscle and to take paracetomol/ ibuprofen

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/10/2009 07:20

how is she now hmm? If she's still being sick then it's more likely a bug than something she's eaten. What was the new tea though?

ds slept through after his nurofen during the evening! 4th time ever.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX

HMM I'm so curious about what P had for dinner now.

Ronshar - sorry about the horrible night. How awful. It just makes the next day so hard!

Congrats on the good night csws
Q has regressed for sure on his sleep. He's now back to waking for the day at 3am. If I catch him quickly enough and put him in bed with me, he'll go back to sleep for a bit, then wake, want some water or milk from his cup, then go back to sleep for a bit, then toss and turn and change position a thousand times, put his head down, get up, crawl around the bed, stand up and walk around the bed, lay down... ugh, it's awful. But we get more rest that way than if he were screaming in his cot, if that makes any sense...
I want him to stay in his cot, but I want sleep, too... so, not sure how to fix that one.

aubergenie · 16/10/2009 08:57

Happy Birthday Alex!

And happy birthday to me too. But not so exciting as unfortunately I'm 42, and feeling every second of it today.

at lots of poorly babies. How is P now HMM?
