Star it is all connected. So keep going and keep talking. Well done by the way. Braver than I am.

MamaG. My dd1 is 10, DD2 is 5. The shame
No small gaps for me either. I would be crazy crazy.

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/10/2009 12:35

star - the link is just a cartoon of a boy who has wet the bed .

I've been talking to some other people about 2 vs 3 children as well, and what strikes me is that most people say either 'I knew my family was complete with 2', or 'I knew my family wasn't complete with 2', but I have no idea whether my family is complete or not . I shall have to continue to ponder. I can't really have as big a gap as ronshar or MamaG though, as I'm old (and dh even older)!

We have had coughs for weeks ronshar, so might be the guilty parties.
But I might have picked up Emma's cold instead, as mine was just clearing, but I'm all snotty again today!

Poor Emma, that cough sounded so awful I felt so badly for her I hope she's doing better now. And the way she kept putting her head down - what a sweetie.

csws thanks I wonder why my server blocks that weird.

No way am I "braver" than you are ronshar! You have THREE CHILDREN. You're one of the bravest people I know... and a nearly pre-teen aged child! that's bravery!

After witnessing the horrible stuff that happened to my best friend's marriage, I knew I needed to work hard to deal with our issues as early on as possible. They seemed to have the perfect marriage, loved each other to bits...etc... soooo unexpected. So, before I let my relationship with DH slip for the sake of Q, I figured I should be proactive about it.

I confronted DH last week about what he said right after Q was born. I said "wow, I can't believe I actually did it. I pushed him out. are you proud of me?" DH said "I was a bit disappointed in your defeatist attitude 'i can't do this!', but... whatever" I was gutted. I asked him again later that day if he was really disappointed and he said "well, yeah. I didn't expect you to ever say "i can't" to something like this". When I confronted him about it recently he couldn't remember saying it and was embarrassed about it. He said he was sorry and didn't mean that at all and that I should be very proud of getting through that.

On a matter of total trivia, does anyone have a good bath thermometer that they would recommend? We have got through 2 of these now (water eventually gets in), and before I buy another I thought I'd see if there's something similar but a bit less prone to flipping over whilst the bath is running.

Your elbow? That's what we use.... and Q always has a lovely bath

I was looking for something a bit more reliable . Plus we like a nice gadget chez csws.

star6 · 13/10/2009 13:21

Ah, DH would consider something extra like that to be clutter. No unnecessary extra bits lying about allowed

50ftQueenie · 13/10/2009 13:24

I use the plastic flat ones like this CSWS.

Star - Yay! That's fabulous news on two fronts a) that you felt strong enough to confront DH about the issue and b) that you actually managed to get a man to admit he was wrong! I am really pleased that the counseling is helping. And you are brave, it is hard talking to a counselor and being open & honest about painful things.

star6 · 13/10/2009 13:59

my half term is next week
If anyone fancies meeting up - anywhere in the South of England - let me know

A whole week for Q and I together, just the two of us yay!

KSal · 13/10/2009 14:12

Emma is much better now star, thanks. she's back at nursery to pick up some more bugs

50ftQueenie · 13/10/2009 14:20

Well done Star, that is indeed the correct usage of fancy. I am ALWAYS up for a trip to Bluewater. Ronshar? Too soon? Do you not use fancy in the US of A then? Heh heh.

50ftQueenie · 13/10/2009 14:22

Glad E is better KSal. I really felt for her, being ill seems to make every little tumble or knock seem so much worse to them.

star6 · 13/10/2009 14:24

I would use "fancy" to mean "dressed up nicely" your term "fancy dress" I think means costumes and such? My term "fancy dress" would mean suits and dresses to a formal party
And I wouldn't use "fancy" as a verb in the US, only as an adjective.
I would say would you like to meet up?...etc.
Bluewater sounds great. Any day except Tuesday.

50ftQueenie · 13/10/2009 14:44

I would love to meet you at Bluewater and spend a few bucks.

MamaG · 13/10/2009 14:56

LOL LOL ronshar

It's obviously because I'm perfect then

MamaG · 13/10/2009 14:58

and all this "complete" and "incomplete" family stuff is a bit odd IMO. I never felt my family wasn't complete before BabyG - he's just an added bonus!

star6 · 13/10/2009 15:17

I would never say bucks Sounds like something someone from DHs family would use.

50ftQueenie · 13/10/2009 15:45

Ah ok. My SIL says it all the time and really winds me up. She's been living in the States for five minutes ffs! Actually it is probably more that her H uses it all the time and everything he does annoys me.

star6 · 13/10/2009 16:29

haha. Is her H american? how long have they lived there?

Ekka · 13/10/2009 16:36

Ronshar/MamaG its interesting hearing both sides of the 2 vs 3 debate. I have to admit I'm with CSWS and pondering what to do at the moment. In theory I've got a reasonable amount of time to make up my mind, but dh is 12 years older, so I don't think he would want to wait much longer. I already feel bad about splitting my time between dd and ds (which is probably not helped by the fact they are v close together in age) and (please don't flame me for this ) I also want to make sure that financially we keep our options open re schooling. We currently live somewhere where the state schools (at least at junior level) are great, but I know only too well that all schools go up and down in quality and want to keep all options open, which might not be possible if we had another 1 or 2 kids (yes, I did say two - four just sounds more of a round number....)

For those of you with biting babies, M does this all the time, but its definitely teething related no b-feeding as I'm not cutting down his feeds at all. Luckily he still doesn't have any teeth otherwise my chin would be covered in bite marks.

50ft - your M sounds a lot like my M. He can really wind himself up sometimes when he is put in his cot and also when he wakes in the night he won't go back to sleep unless I'm with him. Dh was great with dealing with dd waking in the night, but ds just gets more and more hysterical . He's like it during the day as well if he gets tired or hungry - only mummy will do.... Its quite cute the way he immediately calms down and snuggles, but really really frustrating for both me and dh that he won't accept dh's comfort at all. Though M loves playing with him.

Ekka · 13/10/2009 16:43

Sorry, that was rather me, me, me wasn't it

Star - I'm glad that you managed to resolve that issue with your dh. I hope you have a great half term. Unfortunately we won't be able to make a meet-up as I seem to have managed to get a ridiculous amount of things booked for that week, plus I should be trying to get some stuff ready for M's birthday.

CSWS - I can't help, we have that one, but all it really gets used for is a nice teething toy for M once he is in the bath.

Dh still talks about something costing 'xx dollars' and he's lived in the uk for nearly 10 years now. He would never use 'bucks' but then he's Canadian - does it make a difference ?!?!?!
