awww, for linus's first tooth! hope it's not causing any trouble for him.
sure we're gonna get a tooth here sometime soon, he's chewing like a nutter, munch munch the whole time & v. dribbly.
(i quite like roo being gummy, & tho first tooth will be exciting, i'll be sad to see gummy-roo go!)

question for mummies that are weaning, what did your LOs do when you first offered food???
i'm asking as i tried to feed roo a little pureed stewed apple earlier, after he'd been grabbing at his dad's food - he's 5mths, & i thought ok, here we go with some food. so i made some up, but he pulled an awful face, gagged, looked like he was gonna throw up, & spat every bit out that i tried to feed him.
other mums i've asked said their babies were delighted to be fed the first time & downed whatever was on the end of the spoon!

i'm guessing this means roo's not actually ready for food (still sleeping really well, about 9-10 hrs straight at night ), which is fine with me. any thoughts?? it's just that he looked so keen, i though i'd try some food...

starlover · 03/07/2005 21:39

roosmum... MOST babies do push food out when it is first given. Mainly because they don't have the reflexes to swallow it... they're just used to sucking and swallowing... not taking something from a spoon, So, it all gets pushed back out by their tongue.

Having said that, Linus did take his straight away. but I think he was used to me spooning stuff into his mouth because of the amount of thrush medication he had!

YOu could try a very runny puree of baby rice mixed with EBM or formula. Also, just put a small amount on the spoon and leave the spoon in his mouth so he sucks on it and realises that food comes off of it!

Anyway, Linus's tooth has made him a bit grumpy. waking up during the night a few times. Also chewing and dribbling like mad. I have to keep a bib on him all the time at the moment! Have had to give him calpol the last couple of days because he was so miserable... although today has seemed a little better. Stocked up on teething gel too!

gossifer · 04/07/2005 10:39

roosmum
as starlover says i tried first with v.runny babyrice and EBM and leon had probs with what to do with it but did get some down in the end, but it is a very messy time/lots pushed out etc

i've always been told that you shouldn't continue if they don't seem to really be that interested though

starlover - thinking of you with linus and his tooth - hope the calpol works for you - leon sucks his gums like an old lady so there's definately something going on! he's also taken to sleeping on his tummy!!!!!

hello everyone - i hope your weekends were ok and all are healthy!

Hazellnut · 04/07/2005 21:09

heelloooooo !!

Just a quickie as still dont' have my computer - lots and lots of damage - thankfully insurance company sorting it out but taking ages .....

Glad to hear all the babes are progressing. We have rolling and sitting here (sitting is only really seconds on own but ...) and 3 meals a day as was stropping when I ate lunch !! How they change so quickly !!

Must admit I didn't last with the nappies . Couldn't cope with the nappy rash as had to change every two hours or more regularly and it just wasnt practical... also had a bad week last week with v. grumpy baby (teeth ?) and so this didn't help with my perseverence ! Sorry guys = will hang my head in shame.......

Anyway, should be back on next week !!

hey all!

well, linus has started waking up during the night again! not sure if it's because of the tooth or because he's wanting more food. he does stare at me begrudgingly if i eat anything ever! lol
he wakes at around 5ish and won't settle without a feed... so am thinking of adding another meal in during the day!

He won't stop rolling now and I have to keep rescuing him because he gets cross as he can't get back over again! LOL
He can sit for a couple of seconds.. but nothing really proper yet. He'd far rather be sat in his bumbo or rolling around on the floor.

He's being really lovely at the moment actually. Laughing at nothing, and big smiles for me when i go in to him in the morning. He's becoming a bit more cuddly instead of just struggling to sit up all the time when i have him on my lap...

aren't they just fab???????

roosmum · 05/07/2005 10:56

hi SL - that's lovely abt linus, yes, roo is also getting to be such a sweetie, so smiley (for apparently no reason ) & his laughing is 100% infectious. we've recently discovered highchair - he sits in it for a little while in kitchen, whilst i can actually get on with some tidying/washing up etc., which is fab!
i'm guessing linus is in his own room?? roo still in with us just now, but i'm thinking of moving him out sometime soon...
& new thing here is that roo ate babyrice last night! i'd tried him with it a few days ago & same response as to apple, no interest at all (which is why i tried apple, thought it might be more interesting for him!)...but this time he ate it quite enthusiastically (only 1 spoon of rice), after being soooo interested in our dinner. so we'll see how it goes now, not sure whether to keep going with it today, see how hungry he looks later & whether milk satisfies or not - he's def drinking more in the last few days i think, tho still sleeping well.

sorry to hear abt nappies H, maybe you cd try again when things a bit easier?? dunno abt the rash, sometimes we get a little here, but it can be gone by next nappy change...? does she get rash in disp???

xxx

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:01

yes forgot to say... when making the change to washables babiues can get a bit rashy for a couple of days... but normally fine once it's cleared up.
what liners did you use hazellnut?

roosmum.. yes linus has been in his own room for over a month now. He got too big for his crib, and we couldn't fit his big cot in our room! It's great though, i sleep much better! He was very noisy because of his windpipe and kept me akwae at night!

well done roo and his rice! I just posted to you on other thread but you might not see it... is roo going to be veggie too?

roosmum · 05/07/2005 11:08

rash - cd also be teething related?? that's why i wondered abt rash/no rash in disp.

SL - no i'm not gonna bring roo up veggie (dh isn't, tho he's recently decided to eat v. little red meat & happily eats veggie meals with me - tofu, quorn stuff, veg pasta etc), at least not until he's old enough to decide for himself abt it. if dh was veggie, then yes i prob wd bring roo up meatfree too, but i don't want it said that i'm 'imposing' my beliefs on him (tho i prob will in countless other ways without knowing it!). i'd actually be v. happy for him to not eat meat, but we'll see how it goes. fish is v.v. good for you i have to admit, tho i don't eat any.
what abt linus??
i'm really getting into organic recently, had enough of eating cr@p!

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:14

same here with dp not being veggie... but again, happy enough to eat veggie meals that i prepare. I actually really hate doing fresh meat! although am ok with mince and stuff

i think Linus will probabyl be veggie too, simply because i hardly ever cook meat. although when he is older if he wants to eat it then that's up to him! Not sure really... DP reckons I should give him meat once he is eating the same as us... so if i cook meat for DP i should give Linus some too... but i;m not sure!
As for organic.. have been gradually buying more and more over the last couple of years. Some things you can taste the difference... in particular bread and milk! ALways buy organic for Linus.

roosmum · 05/07/2005 11:19

yes - organic for roo is what's got me thinking abt all this really (his refused apple was org )
but then, if it's good for him, then it's good for all 3 of us, is what i'm coming round to.
i'll def feed roo fish & a bit of white meat i think, as well as lots of pulses etc.
we'll see how it goes, good on you tho if you don't give L meat, i really don't think any of us NEED it!
how did you get on with the buggy sit-in...& have you decided on a replacement??

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:25

ahh buggy sit-in... well there was a different lady there who was really nice so i couldn't get angry really! she seemed genuinely shocked when i told her what had happened (this has been going on for over a month now!)... anyway, she said they would really have to send it back to babystyle and see what they say, which we weren't reall overly happy with but figured we should go along or we'd end up with nothing!

So, she's supposed to be getting back to us today to let us know that it has been sent off and what will happen next!

i am adamant that i will be getting a replacement though! tried out the mutsy and it was really fab. can't find anywhere that stocks the i'coo though!

roosmum · 05/07/2005 11:31

i thought of a micralite for u, not the solid chunky mutsy, but a friend has one & loves it.
(it has 4 wheels , pneumatic tyres & is light & portable? & not too pricey either)

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:32

does it recline?

roosmum · 05/07/2005 11:36

yes, but not fully, so not a from-birth buggy (3mths plus i think). friend got a 2nd hand mamas & papas for peanuts (which she HATED) until LO cd use the micralite. but it does also come with carrycot (for future babes!) & think it's carseat compatible, as in travel system??
it's cute (red is nice, also black & beige i think) & there's reasonable deals around i think (small = good for you...in a flat??)

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:37

i normally leave it in the car tbh. we have a resonably big hallway though, so doesn't matter how much room it takes up (bear in mind our pram was vast!)

ideally i want something that he can face me in, and that lies completely flat so that he can sleep in it while we're out.

roosmum · 05/07/2005 11:39

ok, micralite out then - can't face you...
dh gets cross when i leave buggies in car - thinks someone's gonna break in to steal my urban detour/bag of dirty nappies?!

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:41

i am too lazy to bring it in... easier to carry Linus. ALthough, he is getting quite heavy now

roosmum · 05/07/2005 11:45

have you seen the mutsy sit-on thing for older toddlers/kids?? v. cool!
yep, def get a mutsy, it'll get you fir (think of the arm muscles you'll develop hauling it around/in-out of car )

starlover · 05/07/2005 11:51

i did heave it about in the shop. you take the seat off to fold it, and the 2 separate parts are no heavier than the parts of the pram... so that's not a problem really.

LOVE the little seat thingy too! so cool! I really wanna see the i'coo as well though... i think it has a bigger shopping basket (very important!)

starlover · 05/07/2005 12:02

Does iot have good suspension as i've been looking for another one for the caravan??
I like the look of it.

Hope that baby is sleeping a little more and feeling more settled

Haven't had time to read through the thread so hope everyone is well.
