Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Tipex, i haven't any advice, but i've found crying and wine has helped! DD is exactly the same at the moment, have no idea what the matter is but no matter what i try it doesn't seem to be right. She is just so miserable at the moment. Sorry i'm no help but you are not on your own

Hazellnut · 16/08/2005 21:18

Oh Tipex - sorry to hear things have gone a bit pear shaped. Where is he with rolling ? I know dd would not sleep at all when she first started rolling because she would roll over in bed and then not know what to do with herself. I had to rock her to sleep for a while until she got happy with the idea of rolling.... It probably IS 'just a phase' and everyone I know with babies this age (and thats my whole nct group and a few from my nhs classes so about 11 babies) are all being unsettled sleep wise at the moment !! Everyone in my NCT group keeps sending around exasperated emails on the subject. It is so frustrating now I think because you know they can sleep and get themselves off to sleep and they don't need to be waking unlike when they were teeny tiny and had to.....

Just to hopefully make you giggle, my nightmare at the moment is that dd thinks its funny to poo in the bath .....

ahhh we are fab aren't we?

thinking about it though... linus has been unusually grumpy for the last few days too.
even clean, fed and watered... he tends to just grumble and whine a lot.
he is fine if we're out and i do wonder if it's just boredom and frustration... he is trying so hard to get around and i think he gets cross because he can't reach things or do things...
it's so hard having to entertain him all day though. sometimes just a change of room is good enough, although that isn't always practical.

have just upped his lunch amount too which seems to have helped a little bit today.

perhaps it is just an age thing? i think once linus has mastered crawling he'll be a bit happier... bit mroe independant... and i'll be a wreck!

Hazellnut · 16/08/2005 21:33

By the way, Tipex, apparently my brother didn't sleep as a baby for age and they still went on and had me...... and apparently I slept really well .....

Tipex, this is exactly the sort of thing we have had with dd and what some of the other people I know are experiencing - the babies waking but not necessarily hungry or too upset about it but just awake for a long time in the night. Then, of course, sometimes they're upset and need feeding . I wonder if its just that they are discovering a whole new world every day and its just too exciting for them to sleep !?

OP posts:
gossifer · 17/08/2005 08:23

dear tipex
leon has never slept as much as babies tis age are meant to, only 9 hours at night and maybe 3 20mins naps in the day, and they are always erratic and at different times - i wouldn't worry too much if your ds is getting some good sleep & then lying & gurgling away - i know its hard but i think half the probs we have are because we think all babies should follow a pattern when they're all so different! also they really are learning so many new things at the mo - so things are going to change all the time - not esy though

thinking of you

starlover · 17/08/2005 11:08

oh linus is doing this too. he used to have his morning feed and then go back to sleep but now he's wide awake!
he is also waking a couple of times in the night as well...although he does go back to sleep once i have shoved dummy back in and found his rabbit! lol

it must be an age thing i think. everything is just SOOOOOOO exciting that they can't bear to go to sleep.
i sometimes bring linus in with us just so he keeps quiet. although i don't get any sleep because he lies there kicking me and pulling my hair!

Nik72 · 17/08/2005 17:06

I'm sure it is an age thing, dd was such a good sleeper then started waking in the night again & it was like it was when she was little again. I didn't cope at all well (had pmt too ) and went hysterical. We basically switched the moniter off which sounds terrible but she's in the next door room & we hear loud cries. I agree with you all - life is too exciting to sleep at the moment Hope you're feeling better Tipex, my mum asked me the other day if I really wanted another baby seeing as how I hadn't coped terribly well with motherhood.....it was meant kindly, we're very similar personalities!

To add to the poo stories dd shat copiously at baby massage today and stank the place out. she's on my lap just now and has just filled her nappy again (ruddy solids....) so had better go!

Hi All !

Had a really bad teething day today, but I think I can see that the gum is broken so hopefully a tooth with arrive v.v. soon... We were in shopping today and everytime she went off on one, there was someone I know in the vicinity ...

and then to cap the day off dd fell off the bed... its only a low bed luckily but she gave herself (and me) quite a fright and I feel dreadful now ! After screaming the house down for a couple of minutes she was all smiles so think she is ok.

Joined that 'giving up alcohol thread' but think I need to go and pour myself a large one now !

Nik72 · 21/08/2005 08:46

Jolly, what a nasty thoughtless nursery woman - hope you're feeling better & having a nice weekend.

roosmum · 22/08/2005 11:16

hello all!

have been off MN for a little while - mainly due to general exhaustion i think...roo's slept really poorly for the last month, so i'm a bit wrecked!
having 3 meals a day (whatever he decides to eat of them anyway), but is up twice a night sympathies tipex - it's a pain huh?! like leon, roo won't go to bed until 9.30 - 10, unlike all his little friends who're happily asleep at 7 no signs of teeth yet, tho he has a really snotty nose, which people keep telling me is a sure sign of a tooth on the way?? he's also desperate to crawl, gets onto knees & can shuffle backwards but that's it, he gets so frustrated poor thing!
starlover, do you have your new buggy yet?? just bought a bumble & tried it last night, it was great (might see if i can make a roosmum version!).
ok, roo whinging so better do something to entertain him, maybe a trip out in the rain to post a birthday card.

starlover · 22/08/2005 11:27

hi roosmum! i missed you!
sorry to hear about roo's sleeping.. linus has been a bit more unsettled lately as well... think it's an age thing. having said that he has put his bedtime forward to 7!!! amazing (was about 9 up til now)
we thought we had teeth on the way.. white bit on gum, even HV said it was a tooth... but it's gone now!!!!!! weird. he is dribbling for england though so hoping one will appear soon!

do you find that for the first few months everyone's stock question is
"is he sleeping through yet?"
now it has changed to
"does he have any teeth yet?"

we're also in the awkward backward shuffling stage as well. linus also getting very frustrated as he can't get to what he wants. although he moves across the room amazingly fast anyway! just can't quite co-ordinate himself to the specific thing he wants!

yes we got new buggy! Went for the i'coo in the end and it is really lovely. we're still battling with babystyle over the other one. They have been talking with the manufacturers in spain for the last month! have left it all at my mums though so if worst comes to the worst she can just have it as a second buggy or something... nightmare really

i haven't tried bumbles yet. we're having a bit of a nightmare with leaky fuzzi bunz though. he's fine just during the day at home and at night time... but if he is sat up for a while (inb pushchair etc) then they leak like mad. half an hour the other day and he was leaking. i think it must just be his weight pressing dowm on it and stopping it absorb enough or something? very odd. anyway we're using our MEOS and sandys when we go out and fuzzis at home. I also have a tots bots that someone gave me which is really lovely.... so may invest in some more of those when he outgrows his current oens!

gossifer · 22/08/2005 11:53

dear tipex - thanks for your advice! (and jolly4) have tried a different formula and he's taking a few ounces so i'm on the way! how have things been this weekend?

jolly4 - i'm so sorry about what happened at the nursery - should you not talk to someone about it? might make you feel better and stop it happening to someone else?

roosmum - i am so where you are at the mo! leon goes to sleep at 9.30pm like clockwork (but he does sleep until 7.30am) & i'm stumped! (reading your post has made me realise how lucky i am) also keep thinking he's teething but he's not, getting frustrated up on his hands & knees, sometimes eats his food sometimes not!

starlover - was it linus who just started going down earlier?

it's a wonderful time though? all the change & communication

gossifer · 22/08/2005 11:54

and hello to everyone else!!!

roosmum · 22/08/2005 11:55

hey starlover! roo's fallen asleep so visit to postbox in rain is postponed a little.

sorry to hear abt leaky fuzzis, mine is still great, tho i just have 1. you sound like us with your nappies - we use prefolds/wraps at home & keep the stuffies for quick changes when out & about. really recommend bumbles i think, nicer than tots & cheaper too (on kittykins at least), plus they're entirely fleece lined, have a pouch for extra stuffing & thus dry far quicker than tots. can't see the total appeal of tots myself, tho have to say i've never used one (they do look cute tho, some friends use them).

glad you like your buggy! & hope you get the posh one sorted out...we're also having a little phase of roo not wanting to go in buggies (esp. not zapp), so i carry him around on a hipseat quite a bit recently, also really recommend them for babes that have outgrown baby carriers, even just for using aroung the house. think he's just being nosey & wants to be up high to get a good look around, plus he probably likes the cuddle aspect of being carried. maybe that's where your buggy will be a winner, with linus being able to see you??

starlover · 22/08/2005 11:56

gossifer yes... linus has started going to bed earlier. but not through anything i did..
not sure how it happened really tbh. he started having less naps in the day.. main one now is around 3pm
after that he gets up and has a play. has dinner around 5.30/6ish has bath at about half 6 and then a bottle and bed at 7
he just started getting grumpy and tired earlier and earlier by himself so his bedtime has got earlier too!

starlover · 22/08/2005 11:58

hmm i may try a bumble too!
i wasn't sure about tots either really, but it is actually really nice. very stretchy round the abck and the tabs are really nice and long
on Linus;s slinki minkis the tabs aren't really long enough to go round him properly any more, although the actual nappy is plenty big enough

gossifer · 22/08/2005 11:58

thats great! a bit of time for you and your man - i'm so happy for you!
