Oooh, wine. Can I have a little glass please?

running fantastic new about the scan. It must be a big relief.

books I read a bed time story to ds from tiny babyhood. Dd1 listened to ds' story from babyhood and C get... no story I have read to her before and she loved it, but somehow I haven't gotten into the habbit of doing it every night. At the moment I've got a good excuse though: my books are still in our old house!

jael enjoy your MN break. I hope I haven't upset you as it wasn't my intention.

My dh also doesn't get MN'ing/other forumming. He sees the computer as a tool, not as a means of communicating IYSWIM.

euromum Sounds like you had a great holiday. I think camping/caravanning is one of the most relaxing ways to travel with los.

reggie llare Impressed at the swimming, but also a little . With DH working away or being on call I can't leave C anywhere long enough to go for a swim. I love swimming and could do with a little more excercise.

tummum Hope your cold feels better soon.

grumpy Nice to hear you had a nice evening. It's always dissapointing when dhs stay away longer than planned. He'll be there soon though. It can't be much longer before the pet passport is sorted

I wish MN had sound. I'd love to hear a Welch nursery rhyme/lullaby. I sing to my dcs in Dutch too.

Off to bed now. I want to go to bed a little bit earlier than I have been recently.

Belgianchocolates · 23/09/2009 22:54

X posts I saw. I'd like to add I'm a mirage and absolutely fake too

FiByTheSea · 24/09/2009 08:21

morning everyone manic here atm so just been reading and no time to post much..

runningm great news about murmur.. what a big relief :-)

grumpylol at your mum trouble. seriously though i know your pain.. I have to re-wash my mums washing up. she also gives ds sweets and chocolate when i ask her not to as it's nearly meal time.. tells him not to tell me! he does though straight away.. which i've told mum and she just looks sheepish. don't get me started on her constantchatterallthetimedoessheeverstoptobreathe? anyway hugs and chin up when's she going home?

bottles.. we also did the boiled water filled bottles in fridge and add milk at last min. this time i used the ready to use cartons when G was getting the odd formula top ups as there was no point in buying a big tub of powder for such small amounts.

i've been checking out more primary schools as have to have my choices in soon. arrrgh!

flat now on the market again.. had to blitz the place for the photos mon pm.

my temp filling came out so had to go back to dentist

Febes · 24/09/2009 08:24

Hi everyone I'm on Dh's iphone on holiday while he is making breakfast bliss
we have had a great time nice weather dd loves it here. Home tomorrow so will catch up properly on the weekend.

sausagenmash · 24/09/2009 08:27

FFS. My period has started Texted dp and he said, 'well at least you know your bits and bobs are in working order!' again.

Running and Flip I'd love to know more about the 'cwtsh' book (interested to see how it's spelt!) - my Dad is Welsh and comes out with loads of Welsh-isms - you should see the hymns we're having for my wedding!

Off to chez parents again today, so Mum (aargh) can look after M whilst I try and get some studying done. Hm. Their electricity is off today, so I won't be able to MN faff about.

Glad I could help re the FF links - and honestly, they are guidelines aren't they... they need something out there for the kind of people who let their babies hang on to a bottle of milk for hours, whilst out and about, shoving it in their bag with no lid, taking it out again in 1/2hr covered in fluff and snot from tissues..... that kind of thing. I mean, the bloody guidelines say we should exclusively BF for the first 6 months.... oooops. Buggered that one up then!

My dp also refers to all my 'make believe' friends.... and also the ones on FB, which he says aren't 'real' as I haven't met half of them! Pah. He is just jealous, as he only has about 12 fb friends. Hahahaaaaa.

Right. Up, up and away! Will be back for chinwags this weekend. Have a nice few days everyone (grumpy, save me some vino, please. Ta.)

FiByTheSea · 24/09/2009 08:33

meant to say took ds and G for passport pics and got my hair cut too! alreeet mye lurvlelies I'll bea baack with the scrumpy laater.

sausagenmash · 24/09/2009 08:54

Oooh FiByTheSea where do you go to get passport pics done for babies? I need to get M done. Is it Jessops?

Reggiee · 24/09/2009 09:05

SAUSAGE boo to period starting. Your sp's reaction made me though. Men! is it you who has been making nom nom stuff in the kitchen? I'm looking for a green tomato chutney recipe.

FI hmm...scrumpy....haven't had cider since my student days . But just had 12 bottles of vino delivered. Don't think I should crack them open just yet.

GRUMPY / MOMI am loving the Yaaaaaarkshire talk . Although I only drop my Queen's english accent in favour of broad Yorkshire when drunk.

Well I had a fun night . Poor B was throwing up from 1am - 3am. Have various bedding / grobags / sleepsuits / vests now in the wash. Plus my dressing gown. Poor soul. He seems chirpy this morning but am thinking he looks a little pale. DH disagreed. But all I could think about last night was OMG - it's my fault - I haven't been making up his feeds correctly .

Who was it who commented (ages ago) about bank accounts? It might have been Febes? Just to say ta for your advice. I opened a local building society account yesterday as we already had a monthly dd set up for the CTF.

No plans for today. Just going to see how the little boy is. Right, must go tidy up.

Belgianchocolates · 24/09/2009 09:23

Morning everyone.

sausage about period starting. Your DH's reaction is something my DH would say. I wish men could sometimes experience periods/pregnancy/labour. They wouldn't give such "funny" replies if they had.

Phone call, will come bach later.

Belgianchocolates · 24/09/2009 09:24

I meant back off course.

pulapula · 24/09/2009 09:51

Morning all, gosh it's been busy on here.

Just wondering if anyone has had a smear done since having their LO. I'm having mine tomorrow- should have been whilst pg but then GP advised waiting til Sept/Oct. As I got a reminder letter i thought i might as well get it over with. But I'm a bit nervous- only had 'relations' once and that was quite painful.

And also what medication do people recommend for piles? Sorry if TMI but mine pop out after a movement so I assume i should get something to put on them each time.

llareggub · 24/09/2009 10:23

Pula, are you bfing? I've been told it can make you quite try down there which would make things painful. We've invested in some ky jelly but I'm still too nervous! No advice re smear apart from some paracetamol beforehand?

Beautiful day here. I've been for a swim this morning and now we're busy turning a cardboard box into a postbox. It keeps us busy anyway!

Reggiee · 24/09/2009 10:24

PULA I'm sure someone here has had a smear. Can't remember who. Mine is overdue too - had a reminder letter last week. Am due at hospital next month to see the gynae re prolapse so may ask a whilst you're down there sort of question. I don't fancy the nurse at the local surgery having to dig deep and push vaginal walls to one side etc to find my cervix....

BTW I had Proctosedyl on prescription for my piles. Brilliant stuff (suppositories and cream but I just used the cream as I couldn't find my bum hole as the piles were so bad......). PMiles better than anusol, but you do have to go to the doctors to get it.

My undercarriage sounds in wonderful order doesn't it .

Reggiee · 24/09/2009 10:25

Oh and I'm sure you know, but RELAX when having smear done (easier said than done....)

Morning! So much chat to catch up on!!

Loved last night's imaginary friend / fake / hologram discussion

Llare - love cardboard box play Sometimes the simplest things make the best toys!

Jael - take care and do come back!

saus - sorry but I did laugh at your DP's response. They have no idea do they!

Regiee - sorry for bad night

I have to go out tonight and I really don't want to. I have to go to the AGM of a pharmacy committee I sit on. The meeting is an hour's drive away and I'll need to leave home about 6pm and won't be home til about 11pm. It will be by far the longest I'll have been away from DS. DH has asked my cousin to come over and help him and I'm sure they'll be fine and it will actually be good for me, DH & DS.
Jennster - if you're around, you might be interested to know that the guest speaker tonight is Joy Wingfield on the topic of the new Responsible Pharmacist regs.

ladyhelen2 · 24/09/2009 12:43

Afternoon all.

reggiee your undercarriage story made me wince. Piles. Agony.

pula with your smear. Mine is due but the thought of it, just makes me want to curl up and die at the moment.

jael hope you are ok. It wasn't anything said on here was it? Come back soon.

saus I said the same as your DH when my period came back last week!! I must admit being at bit relieved when she appeared as I am anxious to start Personna so I can monitor my cycles in prep for TTC no3 (which will NOT BE until March next year BTW snowboarding hol to do first!!)

grumpy we did camp in France. Near Perpignan. Seems to be the done thing at the moment.

ladyhelen2 · 24/09/2009 13:00

pula that should have read good luck with your smear

Momino · 24/09/2009 13:04

Hi all.
just a quick mememe post for reassurance and will catch up properly later.

Took Harper to the clinic to be weight and she's only 12lb7oz so dropped another centile to the 9th (she started on the 75th). what am i doing wrong with BF? She's demand fed and feeds about 4 times in the day and twice in the night.

she's happy, very strong back/neck and almost sitting at nearly 5 months (I think she's 20/21 weeks? lost count), very good eye contact, smiles at me/DD's/strangers, giggles, rolls over, etc. she has a bit of congestion but i can't remember thinking she was ever unwell.

i know she's probably just finding her right weight but I also can't help thinking I'm doing something wrong with my BF. my other girls were also lower on the chart so part of me thinks I'm just not good at BFing.

I didn't bother waiting for the HV at the clinic to review the chart as I didn't want her to lecture me or worse, refer me (would we be at that point?).

sorry to be fishing for reassurance especially because I try to assure others in similar situations that weight doesn't really matter if baby is healthy. however, I'm feeling a bit insecure and need some MN support .

ladyhelen2 · 24/09/2009 13:16

momimo she hasn't actually lost weight though has she? If not, I don't think dropping centiles is anything too worrying. I heard somewhere (not very scientific I know) that it takes babies a few months to find their centile. Some start low and then go up, some vice versa and eventually hit the line they pretty much then follow into toddlerhood and beyond.Maybe this is hers? And you said it, centiles and weight doesn't really matter as long as babies are healthy. Presumably she is weeing and pooing ok? You are doing a marvellous job at BF.

Tummum · 24/09/2009 13:31

Monimo about to dash out but couldn't not post. You are doing a fab job at BFing. All you can do when BFing is offer the boob whenever H needs it and H will take as much as she needs, which is exactly what you are doing. You can't force them to take more because they don't need anymore. If your other girls were similar in dropping centiles it is also reassuring that this is normal.

BTW I went to weigh in clinic today and apparently the new guidelines are to weigh only 3 times in the first year as that's all that is required. Hope that is reassuring for you.

Momino · 24/09/2009 13:40

ladyhelen/Tummum, thank you .
have relaxed a bit with a vigorous hoover. Harper hasn't lost weight, I think she's gained about 2 lbs in the past 11 weeks. LadyH, yes, she has regular wet nappies with 1/2 dirty ones a day. Tummum, that is reassuring about weighing less frequently so will leave it now for awhile.

ok, will go put the Red Book away in a drawer for another couple of months (or at least until her next jabs).

pulapula · 24/09/2009 13:49

Momino- please don't blame yourself. If she is happy, she can't be hungry, so just takes what she needs. Maybe she is just destined to be petite, and if you think about it, it means around 1 in 10 babies Harper's age are still smaller than her.

My DS2 is dropping down the centiles too, although did weigh 15lb 3oz yesterday (at 19 weeks) and is gaining weight (a few ounces a week) so i am not too worried. My DCs all started off around the same weight (DD 8lb12, DS1 8lb5, DS2 8lb5). But looking in their books, DD was DS2s weight when she was around 23 weeks, and DS1 was this weight at only 14 weeks . I have BF them all (DD had formula top-ups too) so guess they are just very different builds.

SpangleMaker · 24/09/2009 13:52

momino you could say I'm not a good person to give advice as H has done the same thing, and despite reassurances left, right and centre have been doubting myself from time to time, so I know how you're feeling. But, it's true, if you're demand feeding then H is having as much as she wants and needs and there's nothing else that can be done. I was talking to a mum of twins this morning whose babies have also dropped down the chart. We came to the conclusion that it's down to the babies getting more alert (and therefore distracted) and moving around more & burning up more calories rather anything wrong with feeding.

I'm sure the only reasons a HV would get concerned is if H was unhappy or unwell, or if they suspected you were on a silly feeding regime, which you're not.

What I've been saying to myself is that some babies have to be in the bottom 10% and that happens to be mine. There is nothing wrong with a bit smaller - it doesn't mean less healthy, and as H is getting your breastmilk that's absolutely the best thing for her. As ladyhelen says, you're doing a marvellous job. Chin up, girl
