MisSalLaneous · 09/01/2010 14:14

That's brilliant, Knitter! I can imagine that he must love having a friend around all the time. It's only recently (didn't make a difference to me when he was smaller) that I can see the definite need to spend more time with other children as opposed to meeting up with friends and taking the children with, which was the situation when he was smaller. (Does that make any sense?? I mean the "for them" vs "with them" that changed a bit.)

His one friend who lives nearby is of a similar age and they have such fun together lately.

Denny185 · 09/01/2010 21:01

Ok even the kids are fed up with the snow now. Im back to work next week and have to drive over some hills to get there - not looking forward to it.

Had a very productive week's holiday, sorting through the house and getting rid of things that are broken/ too small etc and have loads to get rid of - just need to get to the charity shop and dump now.

DD2 hasn't had an accident for 5 days now, hooray, now if only she could master some talking......

MisSalLaneous · 09/01/2010 21:39

Impressed with how hard you work on holiday! I need to do the same but am ignoring the ever growing mountain of rubbish in this home happily at the moment... Not good, I know!

Wow re DD2! How long did it take?

I'm dithering over whether or not to start potty training as soon as we're back from holiday (so early March, realistically), or just leaving it until later in the year, perhaps summer or so. Dh keen (but not in a "pushing it" kind of way) to start now, but I think nappies easier when on holiday. Do you agree or am I wrong? Perfectly happy to be wrong, btw, and dh will do his part, he's very involved, so not just opinionated but not pulling weight, if that makes any difference. Oh my word, I'm waffling. Sorry!

MisSalLaneous · 09/01/2010 21:49

Peachy, Denny, (who else does camping?) - I'm tempted to go camping with R on my own for a week. Am I mad? Would you do it in my situation? here? I want to book, but nervous, so need advice from people who know what they're talking about (as opposed to me that's gone camping once ).

Denny185 · 10/01/2010 19:55

If you feel comfortable to go by yourself then go for it. Maybe a weekend/long weekend would be a good test if you didn't want to do the week.

We started with the potty training on new years day and had virtually a week in the house. 3 days with progressively less accidents and then all good from there. She was showing signs b4 - pulling at wet/dirty nappies. DS took about 3/4 weeks to become this reliable, he was the same age but did show less signs b4.
You just have to decide on a time that works for you all, there are plenty who leave it till the child turns round and says 'I dont want to wear nappies anymore'. I'm just a cheap skate and dont like spending money on nappies/wipes etc.

MisSalLaneous · 11/01/2010 10:38

Good idea re weekend, Denny. I like the excuse to squeeze in an extra trip anyway, so will try ang book somewhere close to us just to get into the camping thing again. Once it's warm again, obviously, not now. .

R not too fussed with wet nappies yet (has always hated dirty), so I think I'll leave it for now. Will prob start once we're back, then.

Now sitting here waiting for our Indian visa applications. The queue not all bad - another 30 or so to go, and R for now happy to scribble on some paper. Just hope we finish before he has a meltdown, as nap time approaching in an hour or so.

No other news really. Dh going straight to work after this, so I consider going to the aquarium or something.

SuperSoph73 · 11/01/2010 11:54

Happy New Year everyone Haven't read through the last 3 wks worth of messages yet but will try & get round to it at some point One thing I do have to say though is HUGE CONGRATS to Scorps and welcome to Lacey, am so pleased to hear that things with her & you are well

Will try and pop back later. I missed you all

MisSalLaneous · 11/01/2010 16:50

Hey Soph, lovely to have you back! Happy new year!

Well, visa application not too bad, and dh took went back to office quickly to check if anything urgent, and then took the day leave, so we went for lunch instead, which was nice.

R's in a throwy mood lately, which drives me insane. Luckily stopped with big things, but, for example, when he's decided he's had enough bread at the table, he kept breaking off small bits and feeding it to an imaginative Hansel and Gretel under the table...

That and stopping him sticking his fingers in his nose (sometimes both sides!!! ) my mission at the moment.

EllieG · 11/01/2010 19:37

HELLLOOOOO!

I have not been away, but damn work 'puters have blocked MN as not being suitable and home has been busy with xmas and snow (yes! Here! - only lasted a day but the schools were off for 3 days) and Molly has been poorly with a tummy bug and I had a really good box set to watch in the evenings, but I am back now. What's the news?

OOO!! Just seen scorps has had her baby! Welcome Lacey xxxxx

MisSalLaneous · 11/01/2010 20:35

Except for the wonderful news of Lacey's arrival, and the less nice situation of Scorp suffering, not that much happening here, to be honest.

With you and Soph deserting us, the rest of us have tried our best to keep the thread running, but even I lost it off Threads I'm On on occasion, so you two better shape up!

Soooooooooo, tell us stuff!

SuperSoph73 · 12/01/2010 09:55

Morning.

Pleased to hear that you didn't let the side down Sal Am very of you jetting off again. Is it just a holiday or work-related thingy or something entirely different - memory like a seive

Hey Ellie nice to hear from you

Actually, I don't really have that much to report. Had a really nice Crimbo and New Year, ate too much, drank too much, gained too many kilos - hey ho! Both boys got far too many pressies for Christmas, as usual. Sam's developing his naughty streak, which I think is going to prove quite wearing for his therapists

Back to work is pants, especially as this is mock exam week so my usually lovely quiet library has been invaded by practically the whole of years 12 and 13. I think I'd rather have a library full of 2 year olds ... well, actually, maybe not

SuperSoph73 · 14/01/2010 09:52

Ahem .... hello .... anyone out there? Blinkin' typical - I come back off holiday and you lot bog off It's just not good enough you know I'm going to start getting a complex soon dontcha know. You better be off doing something really exciting

MisSalLaneous · 14/01/2010 11:47

Hey Soph, sorry sorry sorry! Not even doing anything exciting - in hibernation and drinking as much coffee as possible. Which is quite a shocking amount!

Oooh, guess what? I went to a spa with a friend last night, and it was all nice and girly and relaxing. Got given vouchers when I left my job, so took a friend with last night. Could do this more often. I should leave more jobs.

Flat looks like a bomb site. Not sure whether it bugs me or not... Hmm. Going to make some coffee instead.

Peachy · 14/01/2010 11:51

Hello all

Not much here either, snow great ut I have never known the roads and pavements so treacherous. All back at school/Uni today though, even though am not convinced with reagrsd to H&S.

SuperSoph73 · 14/01/2010 11:53

Thank you Sal I can only manage one coffee a day, it's DH that drinks shed loads of the stuff. I could quite happily go to a spa at the mo. I've somehow knackered my foot and can't walk properly. It was fine when I went to bed on Tues night but when I woke up on Wed it felt as though someone had stabbed me though the heel .... what's that all about????

Am going down to dining room to get some soup. Back in a mo.

Our house looks like a skip & we've got a friend coming over tomorrow. Thank god we've got the weather so we're able to sit outside .... that way we can just push him through the front door, straight through the living room and out the back - phew

Scorps · 14/01/2010 11:58

Hello

have been in rather self centered world. Do still love you all though!

Going home tomorrow. V v scared.

OP posts:
SuperSoph73 · 14/01/2010 12:27

Hey there Peachy

Scorps - try not to worry too much lovey, you'll be fine. You've got loads of support and we're all here for you when you need us. You've still got those wonderful children of yours so just smother them with your mummy love & lots of hugs & kisses and bit by bit things will start to get better.

MisSalLaneous · 14/01/2010 12:53

Hello everybody. Peachy, hope roads get better and that you're all safe on it. I get a bit scared when having to go on ice (I don't even drive myself!) I suspect the control freak part of me not too keen on it, never mind the H&S reasons...

Soph, I really should start cutting down, but I don't want to. (child) I'm still not pregnant (mini sulk), but after I did the proper monitoring thing last month (taking temperature every morning, ovulation sticks bla bla bla), I've decided not to repeat that. I can see how it increases your chances (I'm not a, uhm, frolicking every morning and night kinda girl ), but the disappointment was just so much worse after all that trouble! I'd rather take a "fingers crossed and hope for the best" approach, or it'll do my head in.

SuperSoph73 · 15/01/2010 15:02

Afternoon all. Have just been to docs about my foot as I woke up this morning and burst into tears the pain was so bad. It's what they call an epsilon, will have to try and get a translation. There's no rhyme or reason for it & I've got to have an xray just to check there's nothing else wrong. That's not for another 2 and a half weeks though I've also got some anti-inflammatories to take. I've also done loads of driving today so that really hasn't helped the situation .... ow ow buggering ow!

Sal - I got myself in a right state while trying to conceive Sam & in the end it was DH who said that if I didn't calm down he'd stop frolicking with me altogether LOL I stopped all the malarky and the following month I was pregnant

SuperSoph73 · 15/01/2010 15:04

How stupid am I - apparently epsilon is the same in English as in Spanish .... doh!!

SuperSoph73 · 15/01/2010 15:23

Have researched it and it's plantar fascitis ..... now I'm sure you all needed to know that and will be able to rest easy over the weekend

Am off home in a mo. Have fun everyone. I'm going to go and put my hurty foot up and order Chinese

MisSalLaneous · 16/01/2010 14:03

Soph, that made me laugh! So glad you've now got something for it, hope it works fast.

My neighbour is soooooo lovely - she offered to babysit R on Friday (well, over to play at 5 and stayed until we're back), so dh and I went out for a long, relaxing dinner, then coffee, everything relaxed and no rush. I think I love her.

Miserable rainy day today, but guess we have to go out some time - might as well now before it's dark. Can't wait for summer.

On a more cheerful note, we've got our Indian visas, so roll on February! Getting our jabs and stuff on Monday.

Denny185 · 16/01/2010 15:48

Soph when your back was bad before xmas did it refer any pain down your leg? Sometimes PF can be a spinal referral.

All well here, back to gym and sensible eating to loose the pounds accumulated over xmas

Scorpio, hope being home is going well.

MisSalLaneous · 18/01/2010 11:54

Denny, nooooo, this gym talk is making me feel guilty. Not guilty enough to go, mind you...

So, new week ahead. Hope a good one for all around.

We all had our jabs this morning. Well, one jab - typhoid. The rest still covered, and we're not doing any low risk ones (eg Yellow Fever etc as not really needed for where we are).

SuperSoph73 · 18/01/2010 13:13

Afternoon all.

Denny - I did get quite a lot of pain down my leg when my back was bad so that probably has got a lot to do with it. Hey, at least I've now got a legitimate excuse for not going to the gym or taking any vigorous exercise

Sal - I do like to keep people amused, dontcha know I'm still in a lot of pain but the anti-inflamms seem to be helping a little & I tried to rest my foot as much as possible over the weekend. The worst thing was that the weather was piggin´ glorious on Sat & Sun and I couldn't go for my usual constitutionals
