ds2 is sooooooo clumsy! He's a confident walker and would rather walk now than be carried, but falls over all the time! Ds1 was much more 'graceful' and seemed to be able to just do it, but ds2 is comical - never seems to really hurt himself (yet!) but just looks drunk all the time!

Hi Ladies - Long time no see!
I am at home this week with dd enjoying doing absolutely sweet FA!!! It's been so hot, I think it's been the best week to have off.
I've blown up dd's paddling pool and we have been outside most of the day. Great thing is, with no clothes on dd can get as messy as she likes, it's all so easy!! I think like you Lucy, she's been slow to stand up, although you wouldn't think it now she seems to get into everything. No words yet either but she 'chats' incessantly and I mean, all the time. Of course the downside to the fabulous weather is the heat in the house in the evenings, dd has been unable to sleep. Even without any clothes on I've taken her out of her cot hot and clammy. Last night was the worst, We had to listen to the 'chatting' until gone 10!
Well, the weather has broken today now and it's raining heavily. So now dd has crashed out. She's been asleep about 2 hours now but I'm not going to wake her - I know, I'll pay for it later!
But then, I doubt we're gonna get any tennis today anyway.
Who saw Andy Murray win yesterday? Absolutely amazing!!

TracyK · 24/06/2005 12:24

We have rain here too - thank god - although it's not very heavy - my water butt won't be filling up v. much!
ds is kamakaze kid too. He pushes his little chute over to the edge of the baby bath/paddlingpool and then slides down the chute into the bath. By the time he's finished - his spine is red raw and he has red marks all over his face from hitting the edge of the bath at high speed!
He would chat all the time - but for his bloody fingers in his mouth most of the time! I wish he'd stop!

dolbear · 24/06/2005 13:58

its ok ds has discvered he can fit his fingers in his nose sooo classy !!
went for a 'quick ' walk to the shops ( normal time 10 mins) with the reins ds time 1.5 hrs complete with screaming , yelling , tears and tantrums cos he does not like 'em LOVELY

TracyK · 24/06/2005 14:48

ds has discovered that he can fit his finger up MY nose! which is a pain at 6am and he just finds it v. funny!

Chuffed · 24/06/2005 14:55

oooh dd does that - or pokes us in the eye saying eye or in your mouth with mou not the best way to be woken up is it.

TracyK · 24/06/2005 15:02

ask ds where his nose is and he pokes himself in the eye, ask him where his eye is and he pokes his finger in his ear! 10 out of 10 for effort!

Fennel · 24/06/2005 15:17

mrs d - is yours walking or crawling yet? I remember she was quite immobile a few months ago.
dd3 still a crawler.

teething bout is over, no night wakening last night, hurrah. 12 teeth now.

household dither - is it too rainy to go camping this weekend or will it get better? we have to decide soon.

LucyJones · 24/06/2005 17:12

It's nice to see him finally standing up - whilst I'm languishing in th eheat on the sofa he pops up next to me and grins away!! Weather hasn't broken in South yet

dot1 · 24/06/2005 21:19

OK, I've had a bottle of wine, so might be slightly tipsy..! But feeling quite emotional this week that ds1 is now a big boy in pants, not nappies, and ds2 is walking around and talking and not a little baby any more - our babies are growing up!!!

(probably a good job I can't get pregnant just by trying to seduce dp, or I'd be having a good go by now!! )

dot1 · 24/06/2005 21:22

ds2 can point to about 10 parts of his body if asked (including his willy - thanks to ds 1...!!!), but can't do his nose for the life of him - although is getting nearer - used to point to MY nose, but now can manage to find the bit between his mouth and nose! . But can do his head, hair, ears, mouth, fingers, tummy, willy (!), eyes and toes!!!! Ds1 just thinks he's rubbish 'cos he doesn't know where his elbow is!

dot1 · 24/06/2005 22:00

PS - me again (sobering up and off to bed in a minute!), is anyone else's baby eating a bit less at the moment? I'm not sure if it's the hot weather, or teething, or the fact that ds insists in feeding himself, but he's definitely eating less. I'm not worried about it - as long as he carries on sleeping OK..!

LucyJones · 25/06/2005 14:24

Hope you aren't hungover Dot!! Yes, ds hasn't eaten as much in the hot weather. Now that he can pull himself up he has also taken tentative steps along the sofa and just climbed a few stairs. Really need to get a stair gate I guess! Everything is happening all at once

hewlettsdaughter · 25/06/2005 20:56

Know what you mean LJ! DD started walking properly last weekend, walked into the shower while I was running her a bath and then promptly fell over . A massive bump came up in about 2 seconds flat on her head - we were so worried we did the whole Accident and Emergency thing (had to call a friend as we have no car). She was fine though, and she got a free teddybear ('donated by the local freemasons' apparently! )

dot1 · 26/06/2005 08:37

yeah - no hangover!! Must be getting my drinking shoes back on - couldn't touch the stuff while I was pregnant (no bad thing..!) and has taken me all this time to fancy a few drinks!

ds is also learning to climb anything and everything... we've been really lazy so far and haven't put gates up, but it's probably time - he doesn't seem to have any fear at the top of the stairs and doesn't even attempt to go down backwards - would just carry on walking I think..!

dolbear · 26/06/2005 17:45

ooo LJ heart goes out to you , its heart stopping is'nt it ?
its the speed and size of the egg that is sooo scarey , thing is better to be safe than sorry

hewlettsdaughter · 26/06/2005 22:01

hope your week goes ok dolbear! everyone else's too...

TracyK · 27/06/2005 08:38

Well - thought we were going to have to put the dog down last night - she's 14 and was staggering all over the place. But she seems better this morning - not really best week for me either if I have to 'take her to the vets'. DH away sailing, Custom & Excise inspection this morning, month end to do, salaries to do and VAT return to do - and the usual ds looking afters.

Fennel · 27/06/2005 17:06

traceyk - "dh away sailing" is a common theme in our house too. how long did he go for?

dot1 - willies are very popular with my girls who find them hysterical, when they watch a baby boy being nappy changed they all stand round to comment and giggle.

am applying for a job in exeter - the devon commune ideal moves one step closer.....

lunavix · 27/06/2005 19:53

Hello ladies!

Back from Glastonbury and will DEFINATELY take ds next time.

MIL told us he'd taken his first two steps in our absence which tbh I think is a load of ar*e as he still can't stand! He pulls himself up but he doesn't have the balance yet to stand on his own, which I'm sure is a crucial part of walking

He has started singing though, but we STILL have no words. He's started playing with cars though and rolling them around the floor which is terribly cute. He's probably miles behind everything else still!!

Doesn't know anyting like body parts etc even though I try and go through it quite regularly. Can't imagine what he'll be like in 6 months - my mindees are 21 months and they seem so advanced. Walking, climbing, talking, know body parts (starting to know colours) can try and put clothes on, it seems the next few months are major learning ones...

TracyK · 27/06/2005 20:13

dh away today and tomoro sailing. Tho sposed to be thunder and lightning storms tomoro! Seemingly there is going to be 1400 odd boats in the water as there is some naval regatta thingy - wasn't really paying attention when being told!
ds did a poo in the garden tonight and stood in it!! tho I must congratulate myself on recognising the poo smell and seeking out where it was!

dot1 · 28/06/2005 10:11

ds had his MMR yesterday - screamed the place down but was OK after a few minutes and seems fine today - phew! Felt like a v. neglectful mother though - the nurse giving him his jab said "oh, what a poorly toe - how did he do that?". I'd completely forgotten he'd banged his toe the other day, and then proceeded to pick the skin off it (ewww..!!) and it's looking all red and nasty. oops! I mumbled something about keeping it clean (even though he had no socks and shoes on and his feet were virtually black!!).

Ahem. Must keep a closer eye on childrens' injuries..!

LucyJones · 29/06/2005 14:48

wow very about you being at Glastonbury - was that your homeymoon Lunavix? I watched quite a bit on TV and it looked fanastic. Did you stay in a soggy tent or go for a hotel? Ds moves a few steps when he cruises round furniture so perhaps that is what your mil meant?

Fennel · 30/06/2005 12:04

would be about glastonbury if hadn't seen the pics of the submerged tents.

am also of people heading off this weekend for the g8 protests. friends with 1 or 2 children are going but i am too scared of losing a dd or two in the crowds.

us, our weekend highlight will be the school summer fete not that we're getting middle aged or boring or anything.....

TracyK · 30/06/2005 20:10

Oh no - I think ds may be dropping his afternoon naps to 1.5 hours!! Thats 3 days in a row he's only had 1.5 instead of 2- god I hope its a phase and goes back to 2!
