am crying now - care to join me?

ZoeC · 29/06/2005 10:38

response to nappy report

bonym - that report was seriously flawed - they only based in on a sample size of just over 100 cloth users, and made some strange assumptions like a certain percentage iron their nappies .

cloth nappies are much better environmentally but how they're used does matter as there is an impact to everything we do. Have enough so you are doing full load washes, don't tumble dry, don't add fabric conditioner, don't iron, maybe use eco laundry powder too. That all adds up. Plus, the production of electricity will in the longer run become more environmentally friendly as they are forced to move to sustainable resources so the scope to become environmentally much better is there.

I'll get off my soap box now

ZoeC · 29/06/2005 10:44

hugs to all with naughty toddlers.

i have a dreadful cold and have lost my voice - feeling very sorry for myself. wish dh could do tonights feeds

misdee · 29/06/2005 17:42

popsycal, i was so tired i called my parents who watched the girls so i can get some more sleep. have no idea whats going on with dd2, but cant stand it, i almost whacked her hard this morning as she was just screeching at me. 3am ffs, i tried bringing her into my bed, putting he rin her own bed. nothing worked. am hoping tonight is better.

Sorry guys, been away for a while don't think I can catch up with all the posts.

Hope all is well with everyone.

misdee · 29/06/2005 17:47

i seriously had to walk away and lock my self in the bathroom, because otherwise i would've hurt her. sleep depration is a nasty thing. i wouldnt have been so bothered if it was serena, but dd2 can be a good sleeper.

OP posts:
norash · 29/06/2005 18:05

Misdee where do you live?

norash · 29/06/2005 18:05

As in which part of the country.

misdee · 29/06/2005 18:07

hertfordshire. i really just needed mroe sleep, so am not going to stay up late anymore. need to get dd2 back into good sleep routine. going to be baths everynight i trhink. that always works. plus a sprinking of lavender oil on a hankie near her bed.

I think us mums with just the one child don't know how much harder it is with other older children. I think it's hard enough work with only one at the moment, so hats off to those juggling their March babes and a few more. Have been watching Little Angels on our satellite channel out here. My mum and I are addicted to it. Some programmes have such horrifying children and often parents that you think you're not doing so badly after all! On the positive side, it's amazing how often the most difficult child can respond so well to the right approach. Feel sorry for some of the parents though - they seem to have got so bogged down in a vicious cycle of problem behaviour with their children that they don't seem to know where to start.
Do you know if 4 months is a growth spurt period? Lauren has suddenly become ravenous and protests loudly when her bottle is finished. She's already up to what is the recommended max for formula per day, but I gave her an extra bit tonight, which she downed without even noticing. Can't rely on the little bit of cereal I'm now giving her to do anything calorie wise as it's such a little and most ends up on her chops anyway.

norash · 29/06/2005 19:33

I here you Jambot. I had my 9 month old niece staying with me for 4 days as well as taking care of Kieran. It is lovely to have them, but it can be very difficult.

bonym · 29/06/2005 20:54

Zoe - thanks for that link - just goes to show that you have to take everything you read with a pinch of salt.

Misdee and popsy - . Hope things improve soon for you.

Grace has what I think is a bad heat rash at the moment, although doesn't seem to be worrying her unduly. We are a bit concerned as we are off to Sardinia on Saturday for a week and it is going to be HOT. Hope she will be able to cope with the heat ok. Dh is worried to the extent that he was wondering if we should cancel the holiday (Grace is his first so he worries more than I do!) but I reckon as long as we keep her in the shade she should be fine.

Leogaela · 30/06/2005 09:05

Popsy - I didn't have the computer yesterday, would have sent you a big hug if I had so here is one today [[[[[HUG]]]]. How are things today?
I think you are doing really well, I would have cracked a long time ago if I was still being woken up every two hours at night, you seem to have incredible patience with Harry.
Have you been able to spend any time on your own with ds1 since harry was born? could it be that he is having a problem with sharing your attention with Harry. Can you leave harry for an hour or two and go out on your own with ds1 and just focus on him?

Misdee - hope you are having a better day today as well.

Bonym - LOL - dh is the same! We are going to Mallorca next week and he is already planning siestas between 11 and 5! Its been so hot here though that he is already making a big fuss about me taking Niklas out for too long. We have been going ot the pool most days, Niklas loves laying on my legs and kicking in the water, and it exhausts him so he has been going to sleep earlier and with a little less fuss! The weather finally broke yesterday and it is now a cool 25°!

Norash - have you been away or just busy looking after 2 babies? How is Kieran?

norash · 30/06/2005 09:19

Leogaela, Kieran is fine. Thank you for asking. I hope Niklas is fine too.

I went to Alton towers with my hubby. We had a whale of a time . The rides were "OF THE HOOK" .

I hope you enjoy your holiday.

Leogaela · 30/06/2005 09:33

Looking forward to the holiday! We are going to be quite a crowd! my sister lives half time in mallorca and have an apartment there. me, dh & Niklas are staying with her, her dh & 3yo ds. they also have her sil and son staying. in another aparment a few doors down my mum (thank goodness not in the same aparment as us ), aunt, uncle, cousin, cousin dh and 2 month old dd are staying! Really looking forward to meeting my cousin's dd!

norash · 30/06/2005 09:39

I hope you enjoy yourself Leogaela, I think we all deserve a holiday after all the hard work of the last few months

jambot · 30/06/2005 15:12

Lauren seems to be cottoning on to the cereal thing, although only with a teaspoon of pears added. Pulled a major face when I offered her the rice cereal without sweetening it a little with the fruit. She's only on one teaspoon of rice cereal mixed with formula at the moment, but am going to try her on more from tomorrow. I was doing breakfast and dinner, but battled to get her to take anything late in the day as she's already getting a bit niggly and tired by then and doesn't want to know, so today I did breakfast and lunch and she was much happier with that. Do you think that's ok? Most of it seems to be staying in the mouth although it's a messy business, especially when she wants to put her hands in her mouth after every mouthful. She is supposed to start naturally cutting down on her milk intake, but I don't see any sign of that! If anything she seems more hungry than ever. That's why I'm convinced she's having a growth spurt.

jambot · 30/06/2005 15:14

Got her first laugh out of her yesterday by holding her up straight and bouncing her up and down. She loves it. So cute to see her laughing. I could just eat her up at the moment, she's so cute.

ZoeC · 30/06/2005 15:29

jambot - early weaning is only really about getting used to the idea, so I'd say it's too early to be cutting down on milk at this stage as nutritionally that's better than the bits of solids. just go with it and not worry about how much or how often, just glad she enjoys it.

I'm feeling quite a bit better now - got an early night and rebecca fed at 11.45 and 5.45 so a 6 hour gap , then slept on until 8.15am. Lets hope we can continue in this way!

I have another laugher here - and she gives the most wonderful, huge grins (usually when I'm most cross!). I'm getting her to nap in the cot with quite a lot of success at the moment - makes the world of difference to her as she doesn't get so overtired.

Leogaela - have a great time

Misdee and popsy, I do hope things look up for both of you with everything you have going on.

Cristina7 · 30/06/2005 16:36

Hi. I'm resurfacing just as people are off on their holidays. Have a lovely time.

Sylvia is 17 weeks old now, nearly 4 months. I haven't had her weighed in over 4 weeks, she's still quite small-ish. Shows a definite and early interest in solids, taking stuff off my hands (biscuits, sesame snaps). She's had a taste of rusks bot nothing else solid so far. I'm still breastfeeding her although I wonder and worry if I'm starting to go a bit low as she seems unsettled and irritated during her daytime feeds. She's still in our bed at night but we might have to move her into her cot for early evening sleeps at least as that's what we'd promised her brother. He's getting a bunk bed with a space underneath for Sylvia's cot and he's been waiting ages for this.

Sylvia also laughed for the first time 10 days ago. It was lovely. She's become quite a smiler now, considering how grumpy for how long she was at the beginning.

She's not sleeping so well anymore during the day, barely 3 hours in total, or so it seems.

Right, now I'll try and read previous messages as I feel I'm drifting from this group

tamula · 30/06/2005 16:57

Hi guys,

Sorry not posted for a while.

So much to catch up on that I'm not going to

I'll just wish you all happy holidays, better nights sleep and better behaved toddlers.

Ava is finally having her first jab tomorrow morning, I'm dreading it, dp cant make it this time so i'll not have the car to whisk her away super fast if it doesnt go down to well.

She's switched her long sleep from afternoon to morning and today she's wanted to sleep all day!! I've had to wake her to feed, she does feed ok, perhaps a growth spurt? I dunno.

Well big kisses to all gorgeous babies

Tam n Ava xx

Bedtime has got slightly better with ds1 - just focused on getting the hour before bedtime more relaxed and chilled and giving him loads of attention. Tonight was better than last night and last night was better than the night before. He is still being a real handful (for the childminder too) but I am trying to make a conscious effort not to react and just to stay calm. Me and DH havent been getting on very well recently and I think that is affecting him too.

Anyway - since harry will now take a bottle, I can take ds1 to see the wiggles on monday and leave ds2 with grandma!! Then on tuesday morning, he has his 'initiation' at nursery for an hour! He isnt 3 until august so will be one of the youngest there. I am going to leave ds2 with grandma again as he will definitely play up if ds2 is there. Dreading taking him!!!

Harry is just wonderful. He is soooo content and is just adorable. I was feeding him in bed earlier and he was cooing and stroking my face and giggling. He is a wonderful baby

shalaa · 30/06/2005 22:51

Jambot, Caleb is also wanting to eat every 2 -3 hrs so I think he is having a growth spurt. He seems to be really enjoying his cereal now. He has a really ticklish neck and laughs out loud when i'm drying him after his bath!
