ewelcome to my world

Leogaela · 01/07/2005 09:56

.....I'm not going on holiday until next Thursday!

Popsy - good to hear things with Harry and ds1 are a bit easier. I should think that both you and your dh are both really tired wiht harry being such a demanding baby, hope things sort themselves out with him too. Great that ds1 will be starting nursery! Once he settles in I am sure he will love it!

Misdee - hope that ds2 gets better fast!

Shalaa - Niklas also has a ticklish neck, he really giggles when I kiss his kneck and face and blow rasberries on him! isn't baby laughter so cute!

Cristina - great to hear your news even if you can only drop in occassionally.

Niklas was the best ever yesterday ! He didn't cry the whole day (except when he got tired before his mornign nap), he woke up with a smile on his face and was full of energy, smiles and giggles all day!
Last night he woke up twice though, not sure why, he had kicked his blanket off so he could have been cold.

bonym · 01/07/2005 14:39

Another with a ticklish neck here! I just love to hear her giggle .

Popsy - really pleased that things are getting easier with your 2 boys, and as Leogaela said, the problems you have been having are bound to have caused some tension so hopefullly things will improve with him too.

Hope dd2 gets better soon misdee.

Tam - hope the jabs weren't too bad today.

Leogaela - have you tried sleeping bags for Niklas? We have used Grobags from very early on with Grace and they are fab - no kicked off covers!

Well, have been packing madly today for the holiday. Am paranoid I am going to forget something! We are a bit worried that traffic will be bad tomorrow because of Live 8 - we are flying from Gatwick at 11am and had planned to leave at 6am but think may have to make it earlier as don't want to get caught in jams. We probably couldn't have picked a worse weekend to travel, what with Live 8, Wimbledon and Gay Pride!

Have a good week everyone - will catch up when we get back

bonym · 01/07/2005 14:40

Sorry -popsy "him" = dh.

shalaa · 01/07/2005 15:44

baby laughter is the best noise in the world! Also really recommend baby sleeping bags, Caleb has slept alot better since we got one.

3mummy · 01/07/2005 17:32

Hi everyone, I feel terrible I just haven't had time to catch up properly!

My dd2 starts school in Sept and we have been attending numerous meetings this last couple of weeks, and it has been sports day (1st one for DD1!) this week. I'm so proud, she did really well - won the egg and spoon and the footy dribble races!! She came second in balance the hoop on your head race!!

Faith is now 15wks and weighs 11lb 9oz. She's on the 9th centile, which is the one she started on at birth, so she's a "little" girl . She is chuckling more too and loves the raspberry blowing on her neck too!!

I've found the best thing I can do fo her in the heat is to take her girly shopping!! I had some birthday vouchers for NEXT and so took Faith with me last week while DD's 1 and 2 were at school and nursery. NEXT is very air conditioned , Faith loved it!! She isn't too happy in the hot weather and seemed instantly realived when we went into next - either that or she's gonna be a shopaholic like her mum!!

Hope you are all keeping well, and babies are all doing fine .

lots a love xx

tamula · 01/07/2005 19:45

Agreed baby laughter is simply the best thing, esp when they are just learning as it doesnt sound like 'proper' laugh yet, more like a raspy sound (well for ava it sounds that way!)

I too have an abundance of babygro's, Ava would kick her blanket off in 5 secs flat

Thanks for asking about ava's jabs bonym, she screamed, cried and has been fairly sleepy today also a little bit grumpy but no physical signs have developed. Dp couldnt come with us today but he will so be coming next time, I just cant bear it, he'll have to hold her next time and pass her to me when its all over, I had to fight back the tears today!! (wussy!) ... Have a great time away, safe return.

Hi to everyone else, I must get Ava weighed but I cant be bothered to queue up for 1 or 2 hours for the health visitor clinic just to weigh her, she eats fine and looks fatter to me I am curious though, I was going to ask today with the nurse but amidst all the tears (mine) and screams (ava's) I forgot!!

Much Love Tam n Ava Xx

jambot · 01/07/2005 20:22

My child has turned into a ravenous monster overnight! The last two days she has been acting as if she hasn't been fed for a week. She is 16 weeks this week and she's been on the a little bit of cereal twice a day for about 4 days - in addition to her normal bottles 4 times a day. She complains loudly when the bottle is finished, which she has never done before. Not supposed to be giving her any more formula as she is already on over 900mls per day. Sorry I'm a metric girl, don't have a clue about ounces! The cereal doesn't seem to be filling her tummy at all yet, so I've had to increase at least her bedtime bottle. What else could I do, I can't let her go hungry. She's a big baby - about the average height and weight of a six month old, so can't really go on any of the recommendations for a 16 week old.
My gut feel is to go with the flow and give it to her if she wants it. She has always left what she doesn't want before, so I'm sure I can't over feed her. Her sucking reflex is now so strong that she finishes a bottle in the half the time to what she did a month back. Touch wood, her sleeping hasn't been affected.

popsycal · 01/07/2005 20:28

Jambot - the baby rice thing is just a taster at the moment and you are doing the right thing increasing her milk if she is hungry - there are far more calories in milk than in the small amount of solids that she will be getting at the moment.

I am sitting here with 2 free hands for once. Can I just say that ds2 is adorable - he has become so much more content and relaxed in the last few weeks. Very calm and placid and stays awake for much longer stretches. I am just going with the flow for night feeds - I am coping fine in terms of sleep. He sleeps on the bed with me and has a feed before I go to bed. More often now he will have a feed between say 3 and 4 then depending on what time ds1 comes storming in (5am at the moment!!!) he will feed then with a little top up feed at around 7:30ish in the morning
Sometimes though, if i am really tired and don't cover the boobs back up, he is on and off from about 3am onwards! I tend to doze through it! I got myself stressed abotu getting him in his cot but I have enough going on with ds1's behaviour and early morning waking and going back to work in 2 weeks (just for 4 day then 6 weeks holiday) than to sort out the cot thing.

DS2 has his second jabs on monday - he was pretty much fine after the first ones so fingers crossed. Now that he will take expressed milk from a bottle (with a particulr teat given in a particular manner - fussy boy!!!) arse
he;s crying

Cristina7 · 02/07/2005 02:09

Hi Jambot - breastfed babies are often fed on demand, so why shouldn't bottle-fed babies be given as much milk as they want/need? On the formula tin I have it says 4 months old of approx weight 6.5 kg should get 210 ml x 5 times a day and 6 months old of approx weight 7.5 kg should get 240 ml x 4 times a day. I still breastfeed DD but have a tin of formula for some occasions, such as when I have my driving lessons or when I take DD in to creche at the gym (twice so far). As you say, your daughter seems to know when she's had enough and not overfeed so I wouldn't be too concerned about offerring more if she needs more at the moment.

tamula · 02/07/2005 10:54

duh! i meant grobags not babygro's

Leogaela · 03/07/2005 08:38

Jambot - I agree with Cristina, the amounts they tell you to give the baby are only a guideline, if she needs more then give her more. Could you change the type of formula to give her something that will keep her satisfied for longer?

Popsy - I read your thread on getting Harry to take ebm from a bottle! Well done! It really sounds as if things are improving!
Are you feeling more relaxed about going to work for the four days now?

I think Niklas waking up twice in the night is because he is hungry. i guess its a growth spurt.
yesterday he was feeding constantly, no chance for my boobs to recover! I also got another period and wonder if that could be affecting my milk supply.
we tried a sleeping bag in the beginning but the one we bought we didn't get on very well with. Its really warm here now and I don't think he needs more than a long arm and legged babygro and a small blanket. Will definitely try the sleeping bag in the winter again. At the moment he wakes up in all kinds of different funny positins. I think he thinks its clever as the funnier his position that he wakes up in the bigger the smile in his face!

Leogaela · 03/07/2005 08:44

I keep meaning to ask you all about cot bumpers. A while ago some of you were discussing it and i got the impression that its something a baby shouldn't have on the cot. Niklas has one at the moment, what is wrong with it? and when should we take it off?

misdee · 03/07/2005 08:45

they can cause a strangling/suffocation risk. i think as soon as baby is rolling/moving about the cot they should be taken off.

OP posts:
Leogaela · 03/07/2005 08:55

thanks misdee. It is tucked right down underneath the matress, but I think I'll worry about it if it stays on now.

jambot · 03/07/2005 09:22

Lauren stayed over with DH's parents last night. Was a bit nervous as Lauren doesn't know them as well as my parents. Have just fetched her, much to their dismay, as she was a total angel for them. Didn't hear a peep out of her the whole night. Good, she can go more often to them now and allow us the chance of the odd lie-in! Doesn't seem as hungry as she was a few days back. If it was a growth spurt, it could be over.
With porridge being on the menu twice a day now, my laundry is escalating. Whereas I could often get two day's wear out of an outfit, now it more likely than not splattered with bits of congealed porridge. Even with a big bib, it still goes everywhere.

tamula · 03/07/2005 10:47

I missed that convo about cot bumpers but i bought one when i switched ava from moses basket to cot, because as the sides of the moses basket were quite high I think she felt all cosy annd snuggled in but the cot looked like a vast open space that she didnt really take to, so the bumper made it feel like a small space again, problem was she kept playing with the bumper and keeping herself awake! So I attached it to the outside of the cot and she cant reach through the sides 'yet' and sleeps fine.

Talking about laundry Jambot, i've never washed so much myself what with muslins, bibs, pooey clothes and such and am contemplating getting a more eco friendly washing machine that uses less water and whatever else good things it does for the environment, feeling quite guilty! I also use the drier alot now also because i want eveything done and dusted asap

Ava has switched her long nap to the mornings and now and has a catnap during the afternoon instead. She still sleeps 10-11 hours without waking and I've signed up at the local gym!!!! it has a big pool, spa, sauna and steam room, I cant wait to lose a bit of weight and tone up, Ava will go to the lovely creche 2 hours each morning, I'm a bit anxious about leaving her as i havent left her with anyone during daylight hours before (friends have babysat whilst she's slept at night) but i'm sure it'll be fine, if she keeps up her morning sleep she wont even know im gone!! I've signed us both up for the creche baby and parent swim, I cant wait!!!

Cristina7 · 03/07/2005 16:49

Hi Tamula - when's your first gym session? I took Sylvia on Wednesday to the creche at the gym and she was OK, cried just a bit. On Thursday, though, they had to call me back from the hall as she was crying too much. As soon as they handed her over to me she stopped sobbing and gave everyone a huge smile! I've booked her again for Monday and Thursday this coming week, I hope she won't cry again. I've lost 18 lbs but still have many more to get rid of. I'm 11st 9lbs now and I'm aiming for 10st something (about 67 kg, can't quite work it out in pounds, even after 11 years in the UK).

tamula · 03/07/2005 21:20

Hi Cristina,

Babies have to be 3 months exactly to be left at the creche, Ava will be 3 months on Tuesday, so Tuesday it is!

I hope she sleeps without waking! Or possibly wakes without crying, who knows?!! I dont weigh myself and have no scales at home. I just know I have a fair bit of weight to shift, when I can fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes I'll feel alot happier. I used to be a gym addict, every day for at least 3 hours, so i know what to do, it will just take time to get there but i'm really looking forward to it.

Good luck, lets let each other know how we're coming along...

x

norash · 04/07/2005 21:13

Hello everyone,

I hope we are all doing well, Kieran and I are not doing bad. Second jabs tomorrow.

Can you guys believe that there is already a due March 2006 . Poor women .

shalaa · 04/07/2005 22:04

Hi Norash, Caleb has his last set of injections tomorrow as well! Should have been last week but I forgot

Work has emailed me, written to me and finally today phoned me to see when i'm coming back to work! Feel a little harrassed but I told them it's very doubtful i'll be coming back. I hated the office politics and don't want to put Caleb in nursery for 5+ hrs a day. Have got an interview on the 15th for a cleaning job that's 4hrs a night 11pm - 3pm 2 nights a week. Means I can look after Caleb in the day which is what I want.

We've now nicknamed him graboid as he's constanly grabbing my hair or earrings and always has a toy in his mouth. Screams at me if I take them off him!

ZoeC · 05/07/2005 19:24

Hi All

Had a bit of a down day Sunday so not really posted much, rebecca fed 12, 3am, 5am, 7.30am and I was just sooo tired I couldn't stop crying. I really could not even look at rebecca as I felt so angry and frustrated at how she'd kept me up so dh looked after the girls and left me to it. . Since then, she's back to 2 feeds a night which I can manage - last night was 11.30pm and 4am which is better. Although I am getting more and more tempted to try giving her a formula bottle at night. Going to wait until beginning of August and see then I think.

Got her weighed today - 14lb 8oz, and only one lot of jabs left to do which is good. But she's teething furiously, poor thing. Dd1 cut her first teeth by 5 months so maybe rebecca will be similar. Means she's been a bit rough feeding and made me sore but it's getting better, and I've starting using teething gel which helps.

Amazing how time is flying for all of the babies

Cristina7 · 05/07/2005 19:26

Shalaa - it sounds like a good option at the moment, working a few hours twice a week. You'll know when you're ready for a daytime job.

Norash - i was thinking about March '06 babies when I told DH that we conceived Sylvia roundabout the shortest night of the year!!

ZoeC · 05/07/2005 19:28

Am probably gonna regret asking this but still...

Straw Poll

Of breastfed babies, what are they like at night, and do they have solids or a formula supplement to help at all?

(dd1 was sleeping 12 hours by this age on formula full time so I won't ask about formula fed babies )
