HA! Just found a creme egg in the fridge

DH and I had a discussion a few weeks ago about whether we should put a bit more into the joint account - at the moment it only just covers what we spend. I think we should have more room for manouvre but DH thinks we should manage to the budget, and DH got his way. We spent up for July a while back and so I am Making A Point by not replacing anything until tomorrow. However, I think I may have bitten off my nose to spite my face because I'm the one left at home with bare cupboards while he has a takeaway opposite work

So I am particularly chuffed to have found the creme egg

SpangleMaker · 31/07/2009 12:22

Sophietom I felt more confident about feeding in public than in front of relatives (particularly ILs) to begin with. I'm not bothered now, apart from H's habit of pulling off, leaving me exposed & it being a bit of a wrestling match.

pulapula · 31/07/2009 15:01

I am OK about bf in public apart from when DS2 screams at the breast! Sometimes he will come off so i sit him up thinking he has wind. Then he screams, sometimes with wind, sometimes because he wants more milk and it's not always clear which. Then sometimes he cries when i try and get him back on which again could be due to wind or due to the fact he wants the other boob and will quite happily latch on the other side. It is just a bit embarassing as it looks like i am forcing him to feed (and also draws attention to the fact i'm trying to bf).

Anyway, my DD (age 4) is due back in about half an hour from my mum and dads- she's been there since Sunday, and although i've missed her, i have had a lovely quiet week with DS1 and DS2 . I hope she's not overtired and stroppy.

sophietom · 31/07/2009 15:09

Blimey- have just been to clinic with J who is 8 weeks old tomorrow and he weighs 14.08lbs!

Tummum · 31/07/2009 15:11

Everyone. We are off to France in the caravan this evening, so I am in the midst of packing, and a bit worried I have forgotten something because it's all going a bit too smoothly. We had the normal "tone of voice" row last night (hopefully the last pre-departure argument) so all is on track! Just want DH to stop working (he supposedly has the day off but is still on the pc/phone and I have done all the packing ) and we will be good to go. hope you all have a lovely couple of weeks.x

pulapula · 31/07/2009 15:29

tummum- hope you have a lovely holiday. Your DH sounds like mine - even when he's on leave, he still takes work calls on his blackberry and logs onto his laptop

Jennster · 31/07/2009 15:30

Tummum I know that feeling of a dh who doesn't switch off. I sometimes feel like hiding his phone.

sophietom · 31/07/2009 15:30

Enjoy your hols Tummum

ladyhelen2 · 31/07/2009 15:30

Back again. So, managed to read this and the end of last thread and now understand the leg warmers bit too.

Can I have a name check amnesty pls? Its been a few days since I was last here and there was a lot to catch up with.

Although must say momimo really sorry to hear you are feeling out of sorts. I hope you manage to talk things over with the counsellor.

R is now touching 14lbs too. Cannot believe he is 13 weeks old tomorrow. We are still managing to BF in the mornings and will keep up with that as long as there is stuff in there!

Had a bit of a cry earlier as bumped into a work colleague who told me that one of the solicitors at a kind of rival firm (being a court most days we all know each other) died yesterday. He had been ill with cancer for some months but its so sad as he and his partner had a baby girl at Christmas and he hung on in as long as he could. This time last year he was as fit as a fiddle. So so sad and cannot imagine how his poor partner must be feeling right now. Makes you realise that at any moment your world could be turned upside down.

Jennster · 31/07/2009 15:30

Ha jinx pula

sophietom · 31/07/2009 15:47

Thats very sad about that man you know ladyhelen
It just occured to me that last time I met up with Jenn we were discussing our local baby club and I said that all anyone ever did there was discuss how much their LOs weighed etc and here I am doing the exact same thing on here!
I was that he was so heavy though- he is a future rugby star

runningmonkey · 31/07/2009 16:03

Sorry to hear about your colleague ladyh really brings home how precious life is.

Wow Soph he is gaining well. I am kind of intrigued to know how much A weighs as I haven't had her weighed for a fortnight since the HV 'signed us off' as no longer a concern. She certainly feels heavier in one arm now when asleep.

Have a great hol tum all these people disappearing off is making me excited about mine, off on 13th. It might be the last trip in the campervan tho as we've just found out he (sad I know but he's even got a name!) prob needs a new engine which we can't really afford so we're going to see how practical it is with a lo and then think about selling him when we get back and getting a bigger car and a tent instead Bit tmi but we think we conceived A in him so will be v sad to see him go!

So far A has been asleep for 2 hours this afternoon after a fussy morning. Not sure what to do with myself so instead of cleaning/preparing dinner etc I painted my toenails (first time since the specially applied varnish for hospital came off!)

I've just started using my terry square nappies after A grew out of the newborn prefolds I had borrowed. She looks like a weeble! But I have to say that they seem to be working well and not too much hassle to fold. I bought some really brightly coloured ones, I think they look so cute on her [sad mum emoticon] Am still using disposables at night and am going to when we go away don't think nappy buckets and washing on a campsite will be v practical.

Right A is still asleep so I'm going to run a cloth round the bathroom to stop myself feeling guilty for not doing anything!

Off to PIL's tomorrow for FIL's 60th birthday, so if I don't get on, hope everyone has a lovely weekend x x

ReeBee · 31/07/2009 17:41

hi everyone

just a quick note really, have had a lovely couple of days as DH has been working from home after a lot of days out and about / staying away. It was his birthday on Weds (thanks Momino!) and we had a great evening when he finally got home - steak and homemade chips, and champagne and presents - fab!

Today we went out for lunch to a local pub - although similarly to the DHs of tummum, pula, and jennster, he was still taking work calls as we sat in the beer garden - oh well. After that we went to a nearby air museum and he had a lovely time (sometimes I think he is 6 and not 36!!).

sophie, that weight's fantastic!! F was 12lbs 4oz last week when he was 7 weeks 2 days but not a patch on J - you're clearly doing an amazing job - no wonder you're waking up with puddles!

have a brilliant holiday, tummum. Am . Am looking forward to a week at my mum and dad's in the lakes soon although it doesn't compare really.

llare, great weight loss. Mine really isn't that impressive, must try harder

Momino, sorry you're feeling down. If you fancy meeting up for a chat and coffee or whatever, I'm only 30 mins away from the middle of York so it would be really easy for me to come and see you. I'm in York at least once a week anyway. I can't promise to cheer you up but I could tell you more stories about DH's drunken escapades!

hope everyone has good weekends. We're seeing friends (for a change ) and our tried and tested beer garden plan may be a no go as the weather's meant to be dreadful. Tricky, none of these friends have children; they comprise 2 couples who are really DH's friends (well, the men are) and I think they're very different. They don't really know each other and a bit of me wonders if it's going to work out. We'll see...

I've ordered a dress that I think I can wear for both O's baptism and friend's wedding (both in August). It is here

Also uploaded a nice smiley photo of O to FB and to my MN profile

We managed our NCT keep fit session in the park today. When we tried last time we were rained off. One of the dads is a fitness trainer with the MET. He put us through our paces for over an hour - running, squats, lunges, step ups, etc.
I then ruined it had ice cream!

I also have a DH that won't switch off from work. He's just told me that he's spending tomorrow working. We have an office outside so he'll be holed up there. I have lunch with the NCT girls and babies though

runningmonkey · 31/07/2009 18:47

Lush dress ses, will look fab

LoobyLou36 · 31/07/2009 18:57

ses lovely dress - quite tempted to buy it for a christening I'm going to in October

Jennster · 31/07/2009 19:56

Love that dress Ses. I need something for Dd2's Christening in 4 weeks. Will have a look at that sight later.

2 of the 3 skids are in bed and we're off out. We have a babysitter (who'll put dd1 down later as a treat) and going to friends for dinner over the road. I've even got makeup on! I still look crud but nevermind.

Jennster · 31/07/2009 19:56

site even

essenceofSES · 31/07/2009 20:09

Thanks for nice comments on dress. Need to look even more fab now as I've just got off the phone from my friend and - as her family from America aren't going to be there - she's asked me to do a speech at the reception in place of the "father of the bride" speech!!!!

Am v honoured and happy to do it but peeing my pants already!!

Jenn - have a good evening!

ladyhelen2 · 31/07/2009 21:32

dandy yep am a criminal defence solicitor. I got the feeling from your post about the school appeal that you had some sort of legal background so not at all surprised to hear I was right!

I am hoping that work will let me know when the funeral is, if its to be an open one. Although I didn't know him especially well, a lot of my colleagues did and he was always a friendly face at court, as is his girlfriend. And I remember when I first qualified, he was someoone that I had a teeny tiny crush on!

tummum have a good hols. Have just booked ours tonight. We're off to france too to a campsite in the Languedoc in September.

jennster enjoy your evening out.

ses had a squint at your profile pics. O is divine!

Febes · 31/07/2009 22:16

Hi all. I am surviving without DH but miss him and keep thinking he will be home soon. 4 more days...

We had a glorious day here today- first day of summer for ages. Better than our picnic in the pouring rain in the park yesterday .

Ladyhelen about your friend. I can't imagine what his poor partner is going through . Is your job like law and order?? Love that programme

SES great dress. I really want new clothes but no money. Sigh.

Momino · 31/07/2009 22:45

evening all. just sitting in front of the telly waiting for DH to bring in a big slice of cherry cheescake. mmmmm.

ladyhelen, that is very, very sad about your solicitor friend. it really does make me think about how precious and short is life.

Sophietom and spangle, I'm much better BF in public than I am in front of family, mainly inlaws. After 3rd baby I still have to BF in another room when they come to visit. I'm sure they wouldn't mind (I've never asked) but I just don't like the thought of BF in front of them.

Pula, I bet it was so nice to see your DD after she's been away.

Ses, I love the dress!

Reebee, that's so nice of you to offer to meet. I'm free generally Wed/Thu (that is, I don't have dd1&2). Wish I had a car, I could come meet you. in any case, please let me know if you're ever free to meet when you're in York. My mobile no. is on the FB page.

FEbes, so glad you're doing ok on your own. long days, eh? hope you're getting good sleep tonight.

running, have a good time with PIL's.

Jennster, hope you had fun going out tonight.

all those not mentioned, hope you're all well and having good friday nights. off to bed now. night.

Gees I've a short attention span. I start writing posts, get distracted and loose them.

I had a lovely evening the friends we went to were in York today. They have an apartment there as one of them were originally from there, and the meal we ate was from the farmer's market today. Delicious. Their apartment is strictly for them and friends, not for rent. and as there are so many of you in the York area, I'm sure we'll meet some time.

I have a spooked babysitter. She's brilliant, but was putting dd1 to bed after all the others were asleep, and heard a bang. She didn't think anything of it until she came downstairs and the dishwasher was open with a drawer out. She's convinced it was shut when she went upstairs. I don't know. I've just realised the bread maker was on, so that could have been what she heard, but I don't know. I bet the dishwasher was open already.....dd1 is highly unlikely to have opened it herself. Dhe thinks it's a ghost or something. If it is, it's a good one I'm sure.

Momino · 01/08/2009 09:50

lol Jennster, I was wondering what your FB status mean re: babysitter.

hope everyone had a good night. Harper slept until 6.30 but I was up again with a bit of anxiety. does anyone else have this? sometimes I can't tie any specific worry to the pit in my stomach, it's just there.

well, it's raining again today. just trying to figure out what to do indoors with DD's. probably colouring/painting. or we are overloaded with dark bananas, maybe we should do a few banana muffins. anyone want any?
