Hello all - hoping to catch up with this thread soon but as Alistair is asleep, I guess I should be too. Hope everyone is doing well. Alistair seems to be doing fine here, it's just the older 2 adjusting to their sibling that's the tough bit at the moment. DD is 2.9 and lots of tantrums. It's tough for her because not only has she the baby to get used to but at the same time is constantly trying to keep up and compete with her older brother. DS at 5.2 is much better and seems to like the baby alot.

Also wondering how will manage all 3 when term starts again and when I have them on my own. Am trying to think up strategies!!!

I'm fine, feel soo much better than when I was pregnant! Only I must be a bit tired because when I met a neighbour unexpectedly in the street on Thurs, for a second I couldn't remember the baby's name!!! Well, I'm still getting used to it myself given that we only chose it 2 weeks ago xxx

OonaghBhuna · 22/08/2009 22:29

CR- I understand the tantrums my DD2 is 2.8 months and she has really struggled with the transition, it has been a real nightmare at times. Her behaviour has been really hard work.I have found it very stressful. I am hoping when school starts that itwill get easier, DD1 is 4 and starting P1.

well i survived my first day, both gals were good, one was sleeping the other awake, and leah popped 3 teeth- finally!

today is day 2...

do any of you have the phil and ted?

also, how often are your los feeding? mine is very few hours, then 4 hours of cluster feeding, yikes!

Mellin · 23/08/2009 11:03

In the Mellin house we have just passed the 2 week mark, and it does feel like things are settling down a little.

I also got some good news this week - I passed my FINAL exam of an accountancy qualification that I have spent the last 5 YEARS studying for. Phew, a major relief as it was extremely difficult fitting it studying while DD was little, I don't think I could do it with 2 little ones.

OonaghBhuna - a trampoline!! Very impressive, my pelvic floor is in no shape to even think about trampolining.

CoonRapids - tantrums here too with DD (2.9). She is ok around the baby but has taken to tantruming about getting in the bath (and then about getting OUT of the bath) and about going to bed. Which makes for a very stressful evening.

mama2leah - I am debating whether or not to get a P&T pram. In fact we are going to John Lewis today with the two little ones to test it out. It's ok as the moment with our McLaren as DD is in that I have Liam in the sling. But she is a very reluctant walker and once he gets bigger I think we need a double. We walk everywhere.
Liam is feeding every 2 hours during the day and then cluster feeding in the evenings for at least a couple of hours. Doesn't seem to have made difference yet to night sleeping as he usually only manages 2 hours, we had one 4 hour stretch which felt like heaven!

mama2leah · 23/08/2009 11:15

i brought the phil n ted sport- a few tings2know, there is nowhere 4 the changing bag to fit, once lo is out the cocoon. its is massiveeeee, we have a lexus is, it takes majority of the boot. also when mine came the tyres were flat. i brought it from john lewis aswell.

mamamila · 23/08/2009 11:39

hi everybody

how are you all doing? and the babies?

eda's still sleeping nearly 20 hrs a day but it's only day 11 so i know this will soon change. sometimes it feels easy to forget there's a baby in the house. i'm perservering with BF but she's mangled my nipples at times so i've had a couple of days of pumping only on each side but she doesn't have any problem switching from bottle to boob, so it's worked fine.

my section scar was stapled and isn't healing neatly on one side which has freaked me out a bit but midwife keeps trying to reassure me that sterastrips are sufficient and if it's a mess i can ask for a scar revision to neaten it up..on the nhs? i can't believe it.

i finally bought a double mountain buggy with carrycot, it's massive but we've just used it for short walks so far. the problems so far are that the carrycot is tiny, will last probably a month or 2 max and dd1 doesn't like the seat as it's not upright enough and when it rains we can't cover dd1 so i can see this going to ebay in a few months time...

i have a question.. how are your bellies? how many months pregnant do you still look? i'm down to about 6 months now i think and getting strong afterpains when BF. i've worn a tubigrip bandage somedays, not sure if it does anything but it does take a few inches off

mamamila · 23/08/2009 11:44

oh and on my first lone venture out of the house i bumped into my tactless skinny ukrainian neighbour sitting with some other mums in our local park and she immediately asked me if i had had the baby yet i told her i knew she would be the first person to comment on the size of my belly and she replied 'it wasn't just me we all said the same..!' cue everyone looking down at their feet

Harimosmummy · 23/08/2009 11:53

hi guys,

i have the phil and ted sport too... i love it, but agree it is bloody huge... i have an x5 and it takes up s lot of the boot.... you can get panier bags instead of a change bag...

Being honest (sorry), my tummy is gone. Without imogen with me, i don't think anyone would know i'd just had a baby. I stll have about a stone to lose, and have set myself a target date of 20th november to be bac to my pre-children weight.

I also had a CS and the scar doesn't hurt at all now, but i'm hoding off more vigourous exercise until after my 6 week check!!

Well, my two monsters are both napping so it's time for me to do the same and let dh watch the grand prix in peace!!

hm x

3HotCrossBuns · 23/08/2009 12:39

Hi all. Just checking in quickly whilst Darcey is asleep and the boys are out for lunch with daddy. I'm supposed to be sorting bits out for our holiday to Cornwall at the end of the week but keep getting distracted!

All is fine here. D can be quite unsettled during the day and yesterday would not be put down. Then she slept from her 10.30 feed to 4.30am so I can't complain too much!!! 3 weeks yesterday and she was quite colic-y in the evening.

I have a P&T E3 from when DS2 was born and love it! Being in London I very rarely get in the car so the size isn't an issue for me. If we do get in the car then I take the Maclaren or a sling. And Darcey is having her daytime sleeps in the cocoon to save me carrying the moses basket round the house. Although as of last week she's having her naps in the cocoon in the big cot in her room as the boys wake her if she's downstairs.

No pg belly here and down to 4lbs over pre-pg weight - which is about 1.5 stone over what I was before DS1. I tend not to gain weight when pg, it's afterwards - all the choc/biscuits/muffins etc I scoff!!! I gained a stone after DS1 was born and am yet to lose it.

Hope all are doing well and managing with newborn (and toddler) demands. I had all 3 on Friday and it was awful from 10 for about 3 hours, then the younger 2 slept and we went out in the afternoon to the park. Boys happy running about like mad things and D asleep in the sling. I find life feels so much more manageable when out of the house!!

CoonRapids · 23/08/2009 20:44

Glad to hear not the only one cluster feeding at times! Beginning to wonder whether there was anymore milk in there...he's on my shoulder now and don't want to put down in case wakes up for more!!

Melin yes getting out the bath is just one of dd's tantrum moments. She also refuses to walk anywhere now that she sees baby going in his lovely new nipper. Almost wish we had a double now but was trying to avoid it in favour of buggy board and sling. We have house straight into living rm and no buggy storage! It's going to be sling for a while i think. Am trying a Mai tei and some others thx to local sling library but also have the bjorn someone gave me.

I'm just over a stone above pre-preg weight and fitting into some of my old clothes, the baggier bigger stuff... was chasing ds a bit in the garden today. he was delighted that i can do that again.

ScummyMummy · 24/08/2009 10:45

I didn't realise there was a name for constant feeding- am assuming that is what cluster feeding is? I am most definitely cluster feeding too, in that case! Especially in the afternoons. Still, nights seem to be getting a little better- Marianne managed 2-3 hours sleeping in her cot between feeds last night, which made a massive difference to our sleep levels. Hope she keeps it up! We gave her her first bath yesterday, in the kitchen sink. She hated it, poor lass. Should have predicted that from her lack of enthusiasm for nappy changes I guess.

craftynclothy · 24/08/2009 11:28

Well first day on my own with the 2 of them. Dh is coming home for lunch though.

I'm a bit frustrated with the feeding. Gave up the breastfeeding after day 5. Other than being pain-free I'm not seeing any benefits of formula though - still cluster feeding in an evening, during the day she goes anywhere between 1 and 3 hours between bottles, at least one big puke a day, still has poo like a breastfed baby too .

Dd playing up a bit too. She keeps insisting "I'm not a baby, I'm a big girl" but when we go out she starts shouting "I want a baby nappy on" at the top of her voice if we don't let her do what she wants...which tends to include pulling everything off the shelves, running off & screeching. On the positive side I am perfecting the "Criticise my parenting and I may murder you" face

mamamila · 24/08/2009 11:59

eda's started cluster feeding too yesterday and didn't want to be put down in her bed or bouncy chair, she has caught dd1's cold and is full of snot and snuffling like peppa pig poor thing.
i've been waking her every 2 - 2.5 hrs for feeds, changing her first or inbetween if she drops back off to sleep to keep her awake enough to have good feed and she's been sleeping for a longer stretch each night. last night 6 hrs, i've made a silent pledge to start a bountiful trust fund for her if she can just keep to the right path!!
also pumping extra milk and last night she had couple of extra bottles after bf's. to be honest i wouldn't worry about giving an extra bottle of formula at night time if i didn't have expressed BM at hand as i've seen the results are a satisfied sleeping baby.
i was never able to give ds or dd1 a bottle i realsie because i introduced it too late but eda doesn't mind either way she bf's well and guzzles from the bottle

mama2leah · 24/08/2009 12:29

today is a nightmare day, dd1 has been a complete pain, as she has teething popping out, dd2 just wants to be fed and held, her reflux is quite bad, im waiting for the hv to come visit me, was suppose to come at 12... put dd1 to bed for a nap she was too whingy will give her lunch when she wake sup.

i feel like a crap mum!

last night was a mess too...

arghhh

yup its called cluster feeding, kellymom.com has brilliant info on breastfeeding if anyone wants to read it.

olivo · 24/08/2009 18:27

Hello everyone, and congratualtions to everyone on their new arrivals. I hope its ok to come back and join you - i did post a bit on the ante natal thread in the early days but my pg was not the easiest and i didnt want to bore people!

DD2 was born last wednesday by el CS - it was an amazing experience, particularly compared to DD1's traumatic birth. We came out of hospital on saturday and have been settling in at home. I'd forotten how amazing newborns are, in their ability to do nothing but eat and sleep!

will be back later once I have read the whole thread properly!

BabyBump2B · 24/08/2009 18:48

Hi ladies!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a piglet for a baby. Marsaili feeds at regular intervals until the evening and then she acts like I've never fed her before! Nips are a bit sensitive but we're getting there.

She also seems to be developing a nice nighttime routine of feeds at 11pm, 3am and 6am but sleeping well in between.

I still have a tummy too - am losing weight but not bulk around my middle.

And almost on cue there is my snuffling little one calling for boob!

Hi everyone - just to let you know DD1 has arrived! She was 8lb 11 and is wonderful. I had brilliant care at the birth centre, unfortunately am suffering a bit post-episiotomy (baby's hand up by side of head) and also v short of breath / exhausted. I guess this is normal (the exhaustion) but the extent of it has still taken me by surprise.

MPW sorry to hear you've had such an awful time - how are you feeling?

ScummyMummy · 26/08/2009 08:12

Many congratulations, LTJ. I'd forgotten how tiring newborns are too, I must say. All while you are recovering from the birth too. Is your daughter your first baby? I think the shock is probably even greater with first borns! 2 weeks in (almost) and things are settling a little for us. Marianne is starting to have short periods awake without feeding and to sleep a little longer between feeds too. It does get easier and easier as the first few weeks and months pass, I seem to remember. [rose tinted spectacles?!]

I had an episiotomy too and salt in the bath water (as strongly recommended by my lovely community midwife- so strongly that I thought she might pop in to do spot checks on how much salt we had in the house!) seems to have helped a lot. She also recommended taking it pretty easy in terms of not going anywhere major and resting a lot in the first 8 days or so.

cairns · 26/08/2009 18:10

Congratulations to all of the new babies

LTJ I have been using tea tree and lavender drops in the bath which seem to have warded of any infection on my tear, although I still feel very tender down there and have not been able to go for that long walks, in fact yesterday was the 1st time I ventured further than down the road.

Not doing so bad here though, although next week will be the real test as DH goes back to work then. BFg going really well this time (touch wood), I had a nightmare with DS1 so am happy that it has been easier. DS2 does cluster feed too in the evening a bit, but other than that feeds are spaced out every 3 hrs or so during the day. DS1 still being 'gentle' with DS2 although we saw the 1st signs of jealousy today, when he saw DH holding him after he had woken from his nap and an almighty tantrum ensued.

Still got a tummy here though and only have a few items of clothes that are suitable for BFg, that don't make me look preggies and are comfortable, but I am dropping weight each day which is a sign at least it is going a bit.

mellin i am using a PT Sport and so far love it too. I find it really easy to convert from single to double when necessary. I have the pannier bags which make things easier. Although with the size of DS2 unsure how long he will fit in the cocoon for (he is already a 3mth size baby!). It is quite heavy to push with both boys in, but my boys are not exactly small., which I think is half of it.

Longtalljosie · 27/08/2009 07:46

thanks guys. had mw here yesterday and
Although baby's weight loss was within the 10% allowed - about 8% - it still made me have a bit of a cry in the evening. As scummy correctly guessed, this is my first, and I naively thought as she seems to be bf-ing well, she wouldn't lose weight. ah well.

the frustrating thing though is a lot of the stuff i was told by the mw on days 1 and 2 was contradicted by the different mw i saw yesterday, inc how long I should take on each side bf and also episiotomy care - was told at birth centre and mw1 that i should have clear water only, and absolutely no detergent - mw2 says I should have been using simple soap. oh well. will give the salt a go this morning, and will try to source lavender oil as well.

sorry for lack of caps, typing with left hand only!

quixotic · 27/08/2009 11:01

Hello,

LTJ - same here with different info from different midwives. The one who weighed DD on day 10 showed she was back to birth weight - then took off 250g for a clean dry nappy so she has lost a lot - this cannot be right? I thought a nappy would weigh 30g max. Also the same on the episiotomy care, have been told salty bath, clear water bath and NO baths! Going to give the lavender a go I think.

Breast feeding going Ok on one side, really struggling with the latch on the other and already have one boob bigger than the other because of this.

Feeding time calls...
