Cairns- that's my son's name! Two out of three of my children's names so far on the postnatal thread. Will be interesting to see if the third ends up here as well, or if anyone else picks our name for this one.

cairns · 18/08/2009 20:26

duchesse I love the name and DH chose it too, as the original couple of names we had kind of chosen just didn't seem to suit him once he was born , but it was difficult picking it (I had to avoid the baby names thread for a bit after I did a search on it!!).

Mellin Yes I was kind of going a bit crazy towards the end, I was quite fit with this pregnancy with lots of walking etc, but that last few weeks was just awful (now I know why. Can't tell you how much better I feel now that DS2 is out... I dared to weigh myself and am two stone lighter from just the birth!

MPW hope you are on the mend and starting to get a bit better, it sounds awful what you have been through.

Mmm I am not forward to being on my own with 2 when DH goes back to work, he is out of the house from 7.30 till at least 7.30pm. I think reading your experiences it might be wise to have my Mum or even MIL to stay (they live quite far away) for the 1st few weeks when DH goes back just to make the transition easier.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 19/08/2009 09:09

Hi Ladies!
10lb 15!! Holy shit!

SLEEP!
The little bugger went 10-2.30 then 3-7

I RULE

I did it by foie gras feeding him all day yesterday and keeping him awake!

I bet it won't last though!

And I am losing 2lbs a day! WHOOPEEEE

I am feeling lots better, my bleeding has eased up a bit but I am still struggling with pain. As a result DS1 is in nursery full time, which whilst costing us a small fortune, is allowing me to recuperate in peace.

I think we've got some lovely name choices on here. Benedict sounds v cool. Am in awe at his hugeness, cairns!

Well done on getting Roscoe sleeping for longer, mpw. Marianne is sleeping like a trooper in the day and up all night atm...

craftynclothy · 19/08/2009 15:30

Just popping in!

Basic update from me:

baby doing well. Now on formula (bf was far too painful) and I'm feeling a lot happier. Was weighed today (first time since the birth) and she's put 1oz on so that's good. She's less windy than dd but more sicky .

I'm feeling good other than being v constipated (having to poo in the bath ).

Really need to go out for a few bits but scared I'll need to poo while out.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 19/08/2009 16:36

crafty I had TERRIBLE constipation issues

get thee to a GP if it's impacted - otherwise go to pharmacy, I was prescribed lactulose but I think you can get it OTC. Does the job.
There is also Fybogel and Dulco-Ease, not laxatives, more gentle.

Speaking of weighings - DS was 8.3lbs when born, he's now 9lb
Gonna be another huge bastard like his older bro methinks

He is on 50:50 EBM and FF.

cairns · 19/08/2009 16:43

Crafty agree with MPW you need to get some lactulose in you it really helped me with DS as I also had a small fissure which was awful.

Another thing you can take if you can't stomach lactulose which is more natural are linseeds from a healthfood shop, you just sprinkle them over your food, they are great over cereal and they really do help

quite enjoying things today, DH still on paternity leave so he is looking after DS1 while I snuggle up with DS2.. mmmm

craftynclothy · 19/08/2009 18:40

hmm...I've been taking Dulco-Ease since Sunday afternoon and it has made stuff a little softer. Have today bought some suppository things but am now thinking maybe I should have got lactulose. I don't really want to rake something that's just going to make it come out...I want something that's going to soften it . Maybe I should have gone to the gp.

MrsThePoint · 19/08/2009 19:22

many congrats to everyone. Been trying to catch up with this thread and the other one, but am not sure I've taken it all in!

Am amazed cairns that you had normal birth with such a large baby, when my DS was 5lb and 1/2oz and was EMCS!

DS has been great with Felicity, and he dotes on her, telling everyone he has a new sister and that she's out of mummy's tummy now!

Crafty hope you feel better soon.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 19/08/2009 20:00

crafty the suppositories will work on one end, the lactulose on the other!
Lactulose is just a softener, not a laxative.

I have been taking it for a week now, it does help. It's not very nice but it's not as bad as castor oil or anything!

sheenaisapunkrocker · 19/08/2009 20:13

Hi everyone, just checking in.

Wilson Michael was born on the 8/8/09 at 11pm weighing 8lb 9oz.

After the not-quite-what-I-hoped-for birth experience (am I an idiot for saying that?) and one or two issues afterwards I am finally returning to the land of the living. Will come back later with a more detailed update. Birth story in brief is on the antenatal thread.

Congratulations to everyone already here

fruitymum · 19/08/2009 21:31

crafty -sorry you are feeling miserable - go see your GP tomorrow - you will be spending a fortune in the chemist when prescriptions are free. I always find licorace(?spelling)and lots of fluids help - a bit nicer than lactulose.
Congrats to \sheena

ScummyMummy · 19/08/2009 22:27

That's interesting re licorice, fruity.

BabyBump2B · 20/08/2009 22:07

Hi ladies!

Checking in an one-handed typing as I feed the baby!

I stupidly mistyped our daughter's name on the other thread it should be Marsaili!

Still trying to get a hang of this whole baby thing! She's feeding well - although we had a few isues in the beginning with the latch on one side but we're figuring it all out.

Am amazed at how well I can function on so little sleep!

craftynclothy · 20/08/2009 22:43

Well mw was round today and she said to keep using the Lactulose to give it time to work and see doc if it doesn't improve. Anyway I managed to go on the loo tonight. Not as soft as usual but a definite improvement .

Took Orla for her newborn hearing test today and she passed. Also took her into dh's work to show off .

Off to my parents for the weekend. Am partly packed but wondering what important bits I'll forget.

Harimosmummy · 21/08/2009 11:56

babybump2B - It is amazing how little sleep you can get away with, isn't? I think I've managed about 3 hours each night this week and yet somehow I feel relatively human by lunchtime!!! (That's not how I feel at 5:30 when haribo wakes up mind you!!!)

Crafty - welldone on the hearing test... Orla is such a gorgeous name

mama2leah · 21/08/2009 13:15

hiya all

just an update aaishah has reflux , after lots of throwing up! so we are on gaviscon, feeding loads, sleep hit and miss, and i invested in the babasling

ScummyMummy · 21/08/2009 14:56

Aw- that sounds hard, mamatoleah. Does the gaviscon help?

Does anyone know about vitamin D supplementation? I read in one of the leaflets from my hospital that all breastfeeding women should take a vit D supplement. I'll ask the community midwife when she next comes but wondered if any of you guys knew if this is right?

quixotic · 21/08/2009 16:21

Hello - just bookmarking for later. Things have been crazy since Isla arrived with the house full of family. Appreciating the help, but looking forward to some peace. Hopefully will have some time to catch up on Sunday when people leave. Congrats to all!

mama2leah · 21/08/2009 21:51

we are told to give her babies vit supplements if still breastfeeding them at 6 months...nothing about us though, but hv says it best f you take multi vitamins... will update on monday tho.
i don't think gaviscon is helping...its very difficult watching her in pain and then puking everywhere...
plus my other dd is 12 months old...

tmw is my first day alone with both- any tips?

kitkatqueen · 21/08/2009 22:25

Hi scummy & mama2leah, I take solgar prenatal nutrients throughout breastfeeding too. Have never been told to give my babies supplements - only to make sure they get lots of iron rich foods once I do start weaning at 6 mnths.

Mama2leah - stay calm and try not to do too much . Better to plan little and to succeed at all of it that to try to do loads and not complete the list iykwim.

I used to make up sandwiches during the morning when I got a chance so that if I was busy with the baby during lunch time I wouldn't have to put him down to make lunch. Made me feel more in control because my routine for the older children was kept more the same plus I made some for me too otherwise there were days dp would walk in and ask when I had last eaten

ScummyMummy · 22/08/2009 11:49

Thanks kitkat.

ScummyMummy · 22/08/2009 11:50

And mama2leah. Hope your day with the 2 went well.

OonaghBhuna · 22/08/2009 14:42

That is a good idea kit kat. I was supposed to go on a teddy bears picnic yesterday but didnt make it by the time I had bothDds dressed, breakfast, bf ollie, got myself dressed, teeth cleaned more BF, it was late morning and I couldnt think about making up a packed lunch for all aswell!
So went to see big sis. Girls had a fab time with their cousins and we all had loads of goes on the trampoline even me! All of the yoga before and during pregnancy has paid off because my pelvic floor was fine!
It is hard though, ollie is in the sling all of the time he hates the pram and doesnt like the moses basket or cot.
