Blimey Makka!! That is absolutley pants! Here for you if theres any info or anything that I can do. Are you doing all expressing or direct feeding too? Really feeling for you. It WILL get better...

MakkaPakkasWilly · 11/08/2009 09:24

Hey ladies

Thanks all for your kind words! It really does help you know.

I am still very slowly recovering, not helped by the fact that DS2 has an appetite like that of his older brother (ie, adult size portions!)

But I am getting there.
DH has been AMAZING, and thankfully DS2 is such a quiet wee thing that recovery has been a bit easier - DS1 was colicky and cried ALL THE TIME so it is nice to have an easy going bub!

How is everyone else going?

mama2leah · 11/08/2009 14:31

hiya guys... thought id type something while its quite dd1 and dd2 asleep!
i haven slept since 5 am this morning, constant feeding... seems ok i think...

dd1 is abit confused, and clingy to dh, and im worried how il cope with 2...any tips?

MrsThePoint · 11/08/2009 14:58

M2L no tips on coping with 2, have DH at home looking after DS mainly, can't imagine how it must be for you Oonagh with DH having to go away so soon!

How you doing Makka? Thinking of you heaps!

Harimosmummy · 13/08/2009 13:43

Hi

Just a quick update from me... New name, to include DD! (

Imogen was born 29th July by CS in the Portland too... (Martine - It is lovely there, isn't it????)

I had the same team who delivered Haribo, so it was a lovely experience.

Imogen is doing really well and putting on weight quickly (she was only 6lbs 8oz)

Thankyou for updating the birth list!

MakkaPakka - sorry you are having such a hard time.

HM x

martinemorris · 13/08/2009 22:18

Harimosmummy Yes it was a wonderful experience. I keep telling everyone that i felt like i had had a holiday not given birth!! The care I received whilst in there was just amazing.......

Do you live in Central London then? How old is Haribo? Imogen is a lovely name...

Just to let you all know Oliver is doing really well... He is still eating and sleeping although he does have a few awake periods which is nice. Henry is still loving being a big brother and showering Oliver with kisses.....

How is everyone else getting on? Its nicve to see everyone is having their babies now......

Harimosmummy · 13/08/2009 22:52

Hi Martine!

It is a bit of a holiday!! I kept trying to play it down, but then referred to my 'discharge' as 'checking out' !!!
I honestly couldn't fault one thing about the place!!

We live in Berkhamsted now. Harry is 14 months old now - I know, small age gap, but he is being totally wonderful with Imogen. He gave her a kiss yesterday which was just heart melting!!

Imogen is still largely only waking to feed, she does have some alert times now and her eyes are def. focussing on different objects.

I'm still rather coming to terms with being a mum of two!!! This time two years ago, I was honestly facing up to the fact we weren't going to have kids and I was just about getting there with being OK with that and now I am blessed with Haribo and Imobo (I really DO have to think of a better NN for her!)

My DH is away Monday to Friday too, but that was the case when I had Haribo, so I'm hoping coping with two isn't going to be that much more difficult!!!

3HotCrossBuns · 15/08/2009 09:44

Hello ladies. Just a quick post whilst the baby is sleeping and the boys are happily playing...

Sorry to hear MPW's is having a hard time. I agree that you should cry if you need to - if I don't let my emotions out then it all seems to get worse, iykwim.

Hope all the new babes are settling into their new lives, it's such a wonderous time. We're all ok here, DD1 (name Darcey) is 2 weeks today and beginning to show much more interest in the world. She's quite a settled baby (most of the time) - benefit of a being a larger baby I guess. She still hasn't regained her birth weight though despite feeding well. I guess she will take after DS1 and be leaner in build...who knows!

No tips on how to cope with 2/3 kids - not been on my own for longer than 20 mins with all of my 3 yet (combitions of my mum, DH, the nanny and the in-laws). Am dreading it to be honest but it will have to happen at some stage...

Mellin · 15/08/2009 10:24

Hi all,
Rejoining the August 2009 crowd after not posting for a while. Have added myself to the list above.

Baby Liam is 9 days old now but it feels like he has been here a lot longer. He is a real guzzler and it seems like I am constantly feeding him (like now!)

Nellyup 10lb 14!!! amazing

M2L I am worrying about coping with 2 as well. DD (2.8) is very loving and affectionate toward the baby but doesn't understand the concept of quiet and gets frustrated at the amount of time I need to spent feeding him. I haven't been alone with the two of them yet, DH still on paternity leave and I have my Mum staying with me. Am worried about how I will cope alone to be honest.

For those with 2 - what pram/buggy do you have? I thought we might be able to get away with our Maclaren Techno with a buggy board, but DD refuses to get on the buggy board and had a fit yesterday when she saw baby sleeping in "her" pram. I think we might have to invest in a tandem....

MakkaPakkasWilly · 15/08/2009 10:43

Hey ladies
thanks for all the kind thoughts/words.

I am doing a little better now - I had an iron drop earlier in the week which saw me back at hospital and some days I feel much weaker than others, plus also I am still bleeding fairly heavily, but I am getting there.

DS2 is on a combination of EBM and FF and had a bad reaction to SMA and HIPP so we have him on Aptamil Easy Digest now which (touch wood) is proving successful.

OonaghBhuna · 15/08/2009 15:02

Hi All, I survived my week. It was a mixture of being a nightmare to being ok. DH came home yesterday.I suppose it has given me confidence knowing that I am ok on my own with 3 DC! However the next time I will have support in place every day. The night time routine was a nightmare especially when Ollie needed BF. My Dd2 struggled with Daddy being away and her behaviour was really challenging at times.I only had one major crying fit where it was all just too much.

I am lucky that ollie is a contented baby it made life a little easier!

Hello Ladies,

I know how busy you all are and to be truthfull I haven't had a chance to read through everything that has been happening.

I just wanted to post this - I have just put it on the antenatal thread.

*

Just want to get EVERYONES attention.

I know I have mentioned this possibly twice and I know that someone else brought it up too, but you could be missing out on £500.00 Possibly £1000.00

Ok!! There is a grant for £500.00 Per baby called the surestart maternity grant.

You can claim from 11 weeks prior to your due date, BUT only up until the baby is 3 months old. I know lots of people who have missed out on this one!

Here is the list of requirements...

If you're on a low income, the Sure Start Maternity Grant is a one-off payment to help towards costs of a new baby. The grant comes from the Social Fund and you don't have to repay it.
Who is eligible?
You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner receive any of the following:

Income Support
income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
Working tax credit where a disability element is included

*

However If you think you are not eligable prior to the baby being born you may become eligable once the baby is born because your tax credit level will change. So its well worth registering your baby with tax credits immediatly and once your updated claim comes through you can check to see if you have become eligable.

just wanted to make sure no-one missed out!!

Hats off to you OonaghBhuna being home alone with 3 DC's! The first time is surely the worst and it will get easier . I will be coming to you for advice soon. My DH leaves the house at 6am and is often not back until after bedtime. At present I have my Mum staying with us, but she returns to Australia in 3 weeks (eeeks!) and I will have Liam plus DD (2.9) on my own and I am already starting to panic....

Mellin · 16/08/2009 16:11

MakkaPakkasWilly sounds like you are recovering from a tough start. Hope things settle down for you very soon.

fruitymum · 16/08/2009 21:45

just popping in to say hi.
Scott arrived 2 days early on 11/08/09 at 11.18pm weighing 8lb 10oz - he's a wee cracker!

Harimosmummy · 16/08/2009 21:50

Congratulations, Fruitymum!

Hm x

OonaghBhuna · 17/08/2009 13:45

Congrats Fruitymum!
Mellin, I think the next time I will ensure that I have help every night for the bedtime routine. I did it 3 nights in a row on my own and by the 3rd night I was distraught and wasnt coping especially with DD2 who has been struggling with all of the changes. On the 4th night a good friend came over and it made such a difference.I dont have much family support at all but I do have some good trustworthy reliable friends, we help each other out
My DH works long hours aswell and I suppose I thought that I just had to get used to it but actually in hindsight there is nothing wrong with getting help its better than screaming at the kids and everyone getting upset..

fruitymum · 17/08/2009 16:20

thanks ladies.
today was my first day at home with Scott and DD who is 3 , at times challenging - very tiring .DH went into work late but won't be home 'til after 7 tonight...
Hard work entertaining a 3 year old - she didn't want to go out for a walk this afternoon because there were big grey clouds!

Harimosmummy · 17/08/2009 17:11

I'm here alone with DS (14 onths) and DD (2 weeks old) and I'm finding it OK but tiring.

It would be less tiring if they slept at the same time, but it's less stressful with them sleeping at different times, as I find it toughest when they both are crying / wanting something at the same time IYSWIM.

Best go... DS wants my attention!

cairns · 18/08/2009 15:27

Hi Ladies

I can now join you. Benedict James was born Sunday 16th naturally (was induced by prostin though) with the aid of a lot of G&A weighing a whopping 4.97kg (10lb 15oz... which is quite embarassing as it only took a couple of pushes to get him out . We are all doing well so far and DS1 (2yrs) has responded really well to his DB. DH currently on paternity leave ... but already not looking forward to that ending...

Nelly-up looks like we both have big-uns

Have updated the list too - hope it is right
