Swali I have older boys as you know and a muslin or blankie does the job well.

Greetings Elpis.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 28/07/2009 09:57

swali - i have two! would you rather have this one or this one?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 28/07/2009 10:01

welcome elpis! fellow mother of an Isla!

we chose it partly because it's a scottish name and it matches well with our DS. also i just fell in love with it. i knew it was getting more popular but went for it anyway. she was going to be isla or faith but just looked like an isla!

Nutty you are an amazingly strong woman and clearly a fantastic mummy. I don't have any advice to give but just wanted you to know that I'm thinking about you and sending lots of love x x x

Sorry I haven't been on for so long - laptop stil broken and baby still broken Oscar has been ill for a week now and not showing any signs of getting better... I'm hoping it will just suddenly happen. I'm like a zombie at the moment, sick baby = no sleep for mummy.

hugs to everyone x x

aoifesmama · 28/07/2009 17:35

Cannot tell you how glad I am to have found the April thread - in my more sleep deprived moments I searched and could not find it!

We have come through a terrible birth and mad reflux and are now on to the start of teething and 3rd jabs today, but now I've found this thread all is okay!!!!!!!!!

BoffinMum · 28/07/2009 21:05

OK - rehab exercise twice, one mile walk today, SPD back in spades. AAAAGGGGGHHHH!

May need to sit on the sofa and eat consoling biscuits. I am hoping it goes overnight. Not being pg it may well.

BTW Nutty, you are soooo fab, did anyone ever tell you that????

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 28/07/2009 21:09

Evening all,

Long time no post, it seems suddenly everyone is rather busy and not on here much...school holidays, babies getting bigger and more demanding, and I'm guessing some of you are dealing with some rubbish in RL as well

hi there aiofesmama, glad to have you on board! can you tell me how you pronounce your DD's name, I've always wondered?

welcome elpis! it's a bit quiet round here at the moment but generally is lovely, pull up a chair

Nutty you're doing amazingly well, can't believe how strong you're being. If you need anything remember I'm in Bristol too and would be glad to help out with cups of tea, or whatever.

Your DH needs to understand that part of getting a divorce is that he can't lean on you any more, as my friend would say, he needs to 'harden the f**k up' and be a man. He started this, he needs to grow up and see it through properly. So no, don't make it easy on him and start the divorce proceedings. You have enough on your plate.

Bicnod so sorry to hear Oscar is still not well, do you know what's up with him? have you seen the doctor? Sending magic getting better vibes...

frekkles sorry your festival wasn't as good as it could have been, hope H is getting better now.

Puzzle have you had any response to your delivery man letter? Am intrigued!

Juwesm how is H? Have you seen the paediatrician yet?

Orbit is well, although has been quite unsettled in the evenings, I think his teeth might be starting to move Off to buy some teething granules tomorrow.

DS1 made me laugh the other day - we were in the car and the conversation went a bit like this:

DS1 - Mummy, I love you!

Me - What a lovely thing to say, DS1, thank you

DS1 - Say 'You're a nice boy, DS1', Mummy

Me - Ok, you're a nice boy, DS1

DS1 - Can I have a jelly dinosaur for being so nice, Mummy?

Me -

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 28/07/2009 21:14

ooo, cross posts Boff, how you doing? biscuits cure all known ills, tis true. I know, I ate six chocolate rich teas earlier.

BoffinMum · 28/07/2009 21:22

Jules Destrooper Galettes du beurre are just divine!

aoifesmama · 28/07/2009 21:30

WhatFreshHellIsThis Its pronounced Efa - its Irish but interestingly DH is Ghanaian and all is family are fine with pronounciation and spelling. My Irish family can definitely say it, but spell it, no chance!!!!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 28/07/2009 21:55

mrsgboring have ordered this - am looking forward to it arriving!

mrsgboring · 28/07/2009 22:20

Oo lovely WFH - very nice colour too. Hope it does what you're hoping (sure it will)

Very of biscuits. Very for those of you with sick babies/children or other life stuff going on.

Haven't had a chance to catch up properly - E is being hideously unsettled and feeding really erratically for aaaages. He used to be such a chilled out baby but now screams, comes off the breast and refuses to go back on if DS1 shouts (which is all the time) or I move. Me being chained to the sofa makes DS1 jealous and therefore more inclined to drag E off the breast, or shout in his ear or try to get on the feeding pillow or launch himself at us while I'm feeding. On the whole he's been very good and we're fine, but am starting to mildly lose the plot now. Doesn't help that I went to visit a friend with a 6 week old who is very easy and she couldn't quite hide her assumption that I must be crap and doing something wrong.

Sorry that turned into a bit of a me me me whinge.

Ju, also wondering how H is and whether you've had your appt yet.

OddEyes · 28/07/2009 22:26

hello! me again!
just time to read this new thread, can't catch up ladies... as ever! But I promise to be back soon, so want to know how it is going with you all while I have been away from the fold. can you do me a little update when you next post? thank you!
i hope you are all well. sorry to hear that the SPD is still taking its toll Boff.
love the title, though we are nowhere near rolling; poor chicken doesn't have a chance as she is bundled into pram all the time so that I can run after ds1 on scooter.
went to london zoo again today, am loving the new children's zoo. went really early and was so lovely apart from a little splatter of rain. recommend to all! actually was so lovely cause Ellie slept through again last night and ds1 was reasonably compliant (mostly because he was bribed with chocolate and animals) and urinated in toilets rather than pants or bushes - 2 things (obedience and potty training) which have made life so busy these past few weeks.
anyone else potty training? ds1 has a phobia of toilets and will ask to wee down a drain, on a flower or in a bush even when at home. The parsley has died due to wee overload, but funnily enough the chives are thriving!
right off to bed!

PuzzleRocks · 29/07/2009 08:30

Good morning

Where is the summer? This wont do!

Nutty - I don't think you are being unreasonable. He really does want everything his way doesn't he!?
I would be inclined to let him have the quickie divorce he wants but make him pay through the bloody nose for it. He needs to do more than just "try" and help you with a deposit. He's bloody lucky not to be the one house hunting.

Bicnod - How is Oscar today? I hope he is better? And you?

Aoifesmama - Hi there. Sorry to hear about the difficult start. I'm glad things are looking up for you.

Boff - Bugger. Fingers crossed for you.

WFH - DS1 is a smart cookie.
I got a very unsatisfactory email from the agent saying they were sorry and would ask him to turn his music right down or off in future. Grr, I wanted blood.

MrsG - Remember "This too shall pass". And don't worry about your friend, perhaps her face was more concern that she has the difficult phase to come?

Oddeyes - I'll have a bash at at a round up when I have a bit more time.
I must check out the new childrens zoo, it was still under construction when we were there just before Holly was born.
Your potty training techniques made me chuckle.

Schulte · 29/07/2009 11:52

Bonjour.

Nutty, you're amazing the way you're sorting out things. Don't make it too easy for your ex DH though. Lots of hugs.

Boff, sorry to hear about ongoing SPD is it getting better though, on the whole?

Puzzle that trip to Longleat sounds great. Told DH about the monkey with the STD - it does make you wonder...

Elpis and Aoifesmama, welcome to the April mums bunch

Oddeyes, thanks for the tip re. zoo. We are potty training DD1 at the moment, she prefers the potty so the next step is to get her used to the big loo. When I tried to take her in a service station on the way to Newcastle, she was completely freaked out by the loos and particularly by one of those big floor washer machines that was being pushed around by a cleaner, and the hand dryer. She tried to run away she was so scared

So our weekend away was great if a bit exhausting. DD1 loved staying in a hotel and having hot chocolate and choco pops for breakfast! H's sleeping was all over the place but luckily, last night we had a good night for a change. I was so fed up with feeding her all the time I tried a dream feed at 10pm and then a dummy when she woke at 1.30am, and it worked, she went straight back to sleep and didn't feed until 4am. Hopefully I can persuade her to always sleep from 10pm to 4am or even longer by using the dummy.

She's so interested in the world around her at the moment that she's difficult to feed too, she keeps coming off and looking around. I think it's just a phase but very frustrating, as she doesn't take proper feeds when DD1 is around.

By the way, our thread title is so true.. H managed to roll onto her tummy last night but then didn't know what to do with her arm

Hope everyone else is well.

bronze · 29/07/2009 12:27

wfh- I have it in olive. Its lovely. Your ds1 will go far

Nutty- for you. i don't know what to say. I beginning to wonder if you might be able to divorce him sighting adultery. I'm trying to understand his rush. Bu then I can't understand why he wants to leave you in thefirst place-arse

Boff- sorry the pains back, hope you're not feeling too bad

Puzzle- you're an evil woman

oddeys- do you use the chives?

Mrsg- dont wory about whinging. We all do it at times

Though I hate to say this. Izy is still angel baby though he hasn't dropped his one night feed I can completely cope with it. We have him awake in the evenings so we can spend time with him and he just spends the whole time grinning. He's even wrapped Dh who isn't a baby person, around his little finger

I have itchy feet. I have the need to go somewhere or do something amazing. I'm missing myfreedom slightly and would happily pack Izy onto my bag and take the dog trekking round the country. (I do love my other kids toothey just tie me down more)
Hopefully we'll be going out on th epils boat though.

aoifesmama · 29/07/2009 12:27

I knew I would be using this to ask questions (sorry already!!)

Went to see HV yesterday and nurse for 3rd jabs. DD had just eaten and reflux was at work. Both suggested weaning as of Fri (when DD is 17 weeks). I've been told by one GP to do it ASAP and one not to anytime soon .

Any thoughts from the April mums?

bronze · 29/07/2009 12:28

third jabs- oh crap forgot. Havent done Izys second ones yet

Personally I would ignore them I think 17 weeks is far to young

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/07/2009 12:39

aoifesmama the GP and the HV are both giving you advice that is completely contrary to the NHS advice and the WHO advice, who both recommend waiting until 6 months to wean except in exceptional circumstances.

You can download the NHS leaflet on weaning here

I have heard of early weaning being recommended in cases of severe reflux, but I would have thought unless it's so severe that your DD isn't gaining weight because of it then it's probably better to wait. Babies don't need anything but milk until 6 months ish, so why put yourself through all the mashing and pureeing faff? Wait until 6 months and go straight to finger foods and baby led weaning and it's all much easier.

bronze · 29/07/2009 12:43

they can suffer reflux with food anyway. My dd did as its the valve that was the problem. I twas more painful for her to bring up food than it was milk

aoifesmama · 29/07/2009 12:52

My thinking was also to wait. She is still gaining good weight and although she gets quite upset with reflux I'm much more worried about it being too early and pushing her to wean.

I've found that from birth I've had conflicting info from different NHS staff, which is slightly strange.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/07/2009 12:57

Sounds like the NHS all over!
