Anyhoo, yesterday was a lovely day. We went to Longleat and despite the odd rain shower, all the animals were in fine fettle and close enough to get some great camera footage to the delight, and sometimes nervousness, of Ellen.
We managed the maze in very good time and rolled our eyes at others in there who kept going round in circles.
Ellen particularly loved the Longleat train ride. Oh dear, she gets that from her Grandpa.
We had a lovely picnic lunch. And both girls were absolute joys. All in all, a splendid day was had. We were quite shattered by the time we got home.
Off to my Mum's for lunch today.
I hope everyone is well?

Bicnod, thanks for best wishes. With regard to your son, the way I see it is this. Every virus is one less for him to get in the future, a sort of immunity in the bank.

DH said that it was actually a consultant gastro person who say him in A and E, and the bloke was very helpful and sympathetic. He told DH about his wife having been pg recently and complaining about pg reflux. He of course told her to take our old friend Gaviscon, and when she complained to him that it tasted vile, he took some himself to encourage her along and demonstrate that it was OK. He was in fact appalled at how utterly horrid it tasted!! (He had never had it before!!) Nevertheless he says it is excellent for things like that, as it coats the insides very well and reduces inflammation nicely, whereas Rennies just fiddle about with the actual stomach.

Juwes, I would say at least you might get swine flu while there's still Tamiflu available, but given that you're a pharmacist I daresay you hav vays of getting things you need in times of shortage. BTW, I suddenly realised that there are 30m doses of Tamiflu available, but many of the people taking it will not actually have swine flu but ordinary upper respiratory tract diseases. I wonder how this will eat into our national stock of the drug?

Puzzle, let's pin the delivery man down and force him to drink a pint of said Gaviscon whilst taking his trousers off and forcing him to listen to Classic FM very quietly. Ha!! We are the Fanjo Warriors!! Frankly I would have belted him one and then had a nervous breakdown in the street, aka what happened on Thursday at the hospital, but with a bit more violence. Your letter is very restrained IMO.

Longleat sounds nice btw. I am impressed with your maze capability. Every one I have ever tried ends up with me having a tantrum and insisting someone rescues me. I am great fun to go out with for the day, as you can imagine - I hate queuing (the German genes), hate hoardes of other people and hate mazes. DH practically has to anaesthetise me to get me through airports (apart from London City, I like that one as they treat me like the princess I probably am). That having been said, I do like ice cream though and I am happy to play for hours with small children, so I have my uses.

Weight update: 14 stone 8.25 lbs!!! Very pleased with this. The rehab exercise obviously helped a little and I have been having nice salads for lunch instead of sandwiches, which tipped the balance in my favour, I think. It will be nice to be able to buy clothes in a normal shop - I live in fear of my suitcase being lost by the airline and not being able to buy replacement things at the moment as I won't fit anything for sale.

Well done Boff now I need you to come here and help me

brettgirl2 · 25/07/2009 13:29

Hi Nutty it's really good to hear that you at least have some good news. Really hope that you are bearing up as well as possible.

Dawn I certainly didn't have a powerful letdown. I gave up bfing because Hannah's slow weight gain frightened the living daylights out of me.

Boff I read your visit to the hospital posts with absolute . Congrats on the weight loss, all you can do is get it going in that direction and it's amazing you've lost any weight at all with the mobility problems that you have. I must admit however I'm a bit about the efficiency of Gaviscon. Does your DH suffer daily from heartburn or is this just a one off? Speaking as a chronic HB sufferer Gaviscon does not even touch it. In my case it just makes the acid slosh around more and makes me feel really sick. If DH is suffering badly he needs a PPI such as Omeprazole and I'm amazed that he wasn't given a course of this tbh. If he continues to have problems I would suggest going to his GP.

Puzzle what a lovely day out. lol at Boff having a strop in the maze however.

I can kind of subscribe to the get swineflu out of the way, but I also kind of think the older Hannah is when she gets it the better? I definitely don't think that it's worth locking yourself away for though.

BoffinMum · 25/07/2009 22:17

Brettgirl, he doesn't get indigestion type things normally which is partly why it came as a shock to us both.

Spent the evening doing christening invitations - yay! Felix will look soooo cute in the christening robe.

BoffinMum · 25/07/2009 22:17

Hello Nutts. How are you bearing up, cherub?

mrsgboring · 25/07/2009 22:35

Puzzle, what a lovely day out. I am at your ability to do mazes. I love them but have no sense of direction, so simply walk around and around until I finally pop out somewhere.

Boff well done on the weightloss - and also at organising Felix's christening. We're nowhere with Edmund's yet, although that's partly because of his operation. Great news that Boffindad is okay.

Nutty - good news about the consultant. Fingers crossed you get somewhere this time.

Ju as you know I'm in total swineflu siege (though we're going to church to catch it tomorrow) but I'm not going to let it stop me seeing my family, or friends who are visiting from overseas in a couple of weeks. If E and I weren't such high risk, I probably wouldn't change my activities much at all. As it is, I'm not liking the OCD tendencies this whole thing is giving me.

PuzzleRocks · 26/07/2009 10:01

Boff - you post made me laugh, you sound like DH.
Well done on the weight loss.

Nutty - Fingers crossed. Do let us know how you are otherwise, if you get a chance. Here or elsewhere. Big hugs to you and the girls.

mrsg

most mazes can be done but keeping one hand on the side al the time. Doesn't work for mazes with multiple openings though

Swaliswan · 26/07/2009 13:49

I'm having a rubbish day. I really want to cry. I'm so fed up of shouting at DD1 because she just won't behave. I simply do not have the energy or the spare of hands needed to give her the attention that she wants. I can't keep up with her. I took the girls to church by myself this morning as DH is away again. I wish that I hadn't gone. There was no creche so it was pointless going as DD will not sit still. I ended up taking two screaming children out of the service and then loads of people came up to me afterwards to commiserate about the terrible time I was having. One lady came up just to tell me that she thought I was doing really well and well-done for getting to church. I just wanted to cry. Why won't DD just do as I ask without me having to shout at her?

I've also been very stupid and got something on my computer called Personal Antivirus. It popped up looking like a Windows product and it told me that my computer had a Critical System Warning and that it was infected with Trojans. I followed some of what it was telling me to do until I realised that it wasn't a Windows product at all, just someone trying to get me to pay for a product so that they have my bank details. I now have loads of things popping up every few seconds telling me that it has detected a virus or trojans or a worm. If it didn't seem so desperate for my details, I may have been convinced. Now I need to get rid of the thing.

Oh, and I tried to get the children's orthopaedic ward at the hospital to talk to me about B's harness as it doesn't look right to me and is holding her legs at a funny angle. I have to wait until tomorrow to get a phone call back from the specialist nurse. I am not impressed.

I am so unbelievably tired as both girls were up and down last night again. I don't know how to explain to DH what it is like when he isn't here. He can't even deal with DD1 by himself and yet he reguarly goes away and expects me to deal with both of them by myself. I am so fed up hearing him complain about being tired after nine hours uninterrupted sleep.

Does anyone else not have a proper bedtime for their LO yet? Will it help me lots if I sort out some sort of routine for B's sleep?

mrsgboring · 26/07/2009 16:44

Swali ((hugs)) to you. If it's any consolation, we went to church today and DS1 was behaving fine and I had DH with me, but DH still managed to spectacularly lose it after the service. It's hard!

I also don't have a proper bedtime for E. I tried it for a while and it wasn't the right time - was far more effort and meant I fell asleep in E's darkened room at 7pm and woke at midnight, thus destroying the evening.

It's tough at the moment but it will get better, as you know from experience. I'm just going with the flow for now. Don't know if it's the right course or not, but that's what I'm doing. (Sorry that would have been far more eloquently phrased if I hadn't been being screamed at by DS1)

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/07/2009 22:02

Swaliswan so sorry you're having a rubbish day - I know exactly how you feel, DS1 has been a complete monkey lately and I have been having real trouble getting him to do anything without yelling at him. It seems worst when I have to get somewhere by a certain time, as he just refuses to cooperate and I get more and more stressed out.

Give yourself a break, it IS really tough with two and I cried down the phone at DP the other day telling him he had no idea how difficult it is, so you're not alone in feeling that way. Have no magic solutions to offer except to say not to expect too much at this stage, just little things. If you have five minutes to read DD1 a book, then congratulate yourself that you've managed that, don't worry about the bad stuff, focus on the good things.

We've started doing countdowns with DS1 - I count to five and if he hasn't done the thing I want him to by then he goes to his room. As long as don't get cross and yell, then it seems to work well.

As for bedtimes for B - I don't know if it would make life easier, it depends how much effort it is to implement. Orbit goes to bed at 7pm ish, but I don't know how much of that is because he would anyway or how much we've influenced that. Maybe try it for a couple of days and see, if it's turning into a massive effort then stop?

Finally, your computer - DP says it's a virus he's come across a lot lately and it's pretty nasty. There's some free anti virus software called BitDefender that might kill it, but it's quite technical software, I'm not sure how technical you or your DH are in terms of installing it. Otherwise you probably need a professional to have a look at your machine I'm afraid

Hope some of this is of use to you and that the rest of your day went better

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/07/2009 22:04

Boffin really glad to hear BoffinDad is OK

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/07/2009 22:17

mrsg thank you for sling advice! And Swali too. The problem with the KariMe isn't the tie - I'm tying it really tight, it's more the sort of bounce I get from him being a heavy boy in a stretchy sling, iyswim, and the fact that's it's a black one, so very HOT at the moment. I think possibly a wrap sling that isn't made of such stretchy stuff would work better with Orbit - would the Calin Bleu or GypsyMama ones fit the bill there? How stretchy are they? And is the Calin Bleu gauze the same as the cotton one, or are they two different products? I can't find gauze on their website.

I tried an Ergo with DS1 in a shop a while ago and didn't get on with it at all. DS1 hated it, too, kept wailing about not making him go in the 'nasty belt' again

Swaliswan · 27/07/2009 10:11

Yay! My brother (a software engineer) has sorted my computer! Oooo, and I've lost 2.5kg! And Beth slept loads better last night after I implemented a different nap structure. It's already gone to pot this morning so I'm not hopeful about tonight, but we'll have to wait and see. B treated her 7pm bedtime as another nap She finally went to bed at 10, but I can't complain as she only got up for a 10 min feed at 5am then up for the day at 7am.

frekkles · 27/07/2009 10:51

well ladies I return from my adventures and have to report that taking a 3 month old baby with a cold to a festival is indeed possible, but isn't particulary much fun. High points were the kind sunny weather, funny lovely friends, some great food and music and said baby's sleeping 8 hours a row each night and charm the pants of everyone he met. Low points were the baby developing a fever of 40, a rash and constantly crying and feeding for most of saturday, resulting in me being stressed to bits , crying infront of all my drunken pals and demanding to be taken home, which in turn resulted in my boyfriend saying i was overly paranoid and my storming off to drink pimms once the calpol had returned baby to happy cooing child. All fine now, but a very different festival to the once last year when we took far too many drugs, resulting in the most amazing (but obviously risky) sex (do the maths).

So that's a year now since my little boy came into existence and started dictating my emotional and physical well being. Happy Birthday baby, you amazing incredible gorgeous little annoying worrying stressful thing you x

mrsgboring · 27/07/2009 11:51

WFH yes cotton = gauze. The gauze wraps have no stretch and should be fine for you. A friend who had both Calin Bleu and Gypsymama said the GM was softer - she didn't like the CB but she is very fussy. I've only ever had the GM.

Interesting about your DS1 and the Ergo - wonder what he didn't like about it?

Schulte · 27/07/2009 12:12

Hey hey

Quick one, as we're still at my PILs. Wedding was great, DD1 had so much fun jumping around on the dance floor. H however is giving me a hard time, had to feed her 4 times last night! If this is the 3 month growth spurt, I feel it's gone on for a bit too long now -about 3 weeks? Is this normal???

Elpis · 27/07/2009 13:51

Hello there, may I join? Isla Jessica, 30 April, 3.95kg (sorry, I'm not good with imperials).

Seeing as there are three other Islas on this thread - did anyone else choose the name thinking it was a bit unusual and find that suddenly it's the nom du jour?!

PuzzleRocks · 27/07/2009 19:16

Hi Elpis

Welcome to the thread. I will add your details in a moment.
Is Isla your first?
How are you finding motherhood?

Swaliswan - Poor you. How was DD today? Ellen is very mischievous at the moment too.
Have you sorted out your computer? Might be worth asking advice in the geeky stuff section on here. Nevermind, I see you have it sorted.
Congrats on the weight loss.

Schulte - Sounds like a great time.
Holly feeds usually once, sometimes twice. Ellen however fed several times a night at this age. That's not helpful is it?! Sorry.

Just a quickie, does anyone have a BF cover they don't want? I would rather not use one but I'm starting to wonder if one might be useful whilst we're away. We're leaders on a Christian youth camp for 14-18 year olds. B is becoming a nosey so-and-so and keeps pulling away during a feed to have a look around. I wonder if a nursing cover would save me some embarrassment in front of a 14 year old boy? Either that or maybe a nursing necklace?

Elpis · 27/07/2009 23:09

Thanks, Puzzle.

Motherhood is a lot more fun than I suspected. This week's task is to persuade Isla to take ebm from a bottle - we've been trying occasionally since she was seven weeks old, but only the real thing will do...

It's good to see some of the crowd from the April 2009 antenatal thread here! Barbarella, I love the triplets' names.
