Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
50ftQueenie · 19/08/2009 21:28

I go out for one afternoon and have too many post to reply to!!
Star - Thank you. She is starting to look like a little girl rather than a baby now. She looks so much better (well, girly) with her hair clipped and doesn't seem to bothered about it, touch wood. She needs a hair cut again soon. Shall I start fashioning him a wig? Or you could just get him one of these.

Hmm - Interesting, I found Bepanthen was rubbish but Metanium worked like a miracle cream. How odd! Maybe it's to do with different skin chemistry...... And yes, that statue is unfortunate.....

Thanks for your advice about the flight everyone. We flew with DS when he was 15 months and it was awful, really horrific. That was only to Spain, 2.5 hours. My worry is that if it's hell on earth on the way, then we are going to be absolutely dreading the journey home. We can only stay a week because DS has to go back to school on the 5th Jan and I am NOT spending Christmas away from my mummy.

Pistachio - I am also thinking that M is never actually going to let me stop feeding her! It's a real pain as my right side has given up after my hospital stay so I am very wonky now! I look like a fiddler crab.

Myjob - Oh poor little N. I really hope her poor little bot gets better soon.

M took her first step today...... Well, I say her first step, she was standing, lost her balance and took a step to balance herself. I'm still counting it anyway. She has been a silly girl and has scratched her eczema so badly that it looks like she has a bit of mince stuck on her leg. I gave her a cool oat bath and that helped but the heat is making her so so itchy. We have this car seat. Is nobody else opting for Isofix? If not why?

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/08/2009 21:52

We use isofix MM. Wouldn't consider anything else since we have the isofix points in my car.

50ftQueenie · 19/08/2009 22:04

Ah good. I was starting to think that maybe there was something somewhere saying that they were terrible! [paranoid]

Honeymoonmummy · 19/08/2009 22:53

Woo hoo re first step MM! I didn't want isofix because we didn't have it for the first seat and I wanted something we could easily move between cars. The isofix got slightly better reviews on Which than the one I got but not by much.

LOVE that BabyToupee site

50ftQueenie · 19/08/2009 23:05

HMM - I can see the sense in that. My mum has a car seat for Martha already and she is not very likely to go in the MIL's car very often. Speaking of which..... She took me to BW today to save me getting the bus, which was very kind but......when I opened the door to get in I saw that the seat was thickly covered with white dog hair! Ewwwww! I was wearing all black too. Plus in the footwell there was a big collection of smelly, yes smelly dog chew toys. Now, surely any normal human would think "oh, I'm giving someone a lift in the car tomorrow, better clean the dog hair." But no! I was not impressed.

50ftQueenie · 20/08/2009 00:05

CSWS - I am probably going to get some body suits from Rainbow Babies.... recommend them to me!

50ftQueenie · 20/08/2009 07:37

Thank you! After we run in with Vertbaudet I need to find another place to get long sleeved body suits. I am now thinking I'm cutting of my nose to spite my face by just sending everything back. I like the Peter Pan collars.........

jenwa · 20/08/2009 08:04

50ft what run in with verbaudet, did I miss something? I have a lovely baby grow for P from pumpkin patch and it has the collars, I was not sure on them but it looks cute on her. Will try find pic! Yuk about dog hair and chews!

had appt yest has got worse! I am going to have to have MRI and see a specialist in B'ham, also a referral to rheumatology to see if its an inflammatory condition and eye tests too! I am getting an MOT!!!!!

50ftQueenie · 20/08/2009 09:05

Jenwa - Are you feeling ok about everything? Stupid question I suppose. At least everything is being checked out properly. It's good to get a full MOT then you have a better chance of something being picked up. See it as a positive step towards hopefully getting a solution.

Forgot I only posted about my run in on FB not on here. They really annoyed me, really bad customer service so in frustration I am returning everything I ordered. You have very long babies, where do find does clothes that actually fit? Is P long and narrow? M is long and chunky so is already a 12-18 months in Gap.

jenwa · 20/08/2009 10:13

50ft yeh feel ok, scared what they may find and scared that its getting worse but on a positive note glad lots of things are being looked at to hopefully find out what it is and make it all better

Yes P is long and narrow. She is in 9-12 months and they fit ok, the babygrows from pumpkin patch are 6-12 months and they are footless so thats fine Its hard to get things that fit properly! DD1 is in 3-4 or 4-5 and she will be 4 in Oct but the waist needs to be small and the lenght needs to be long so I imagine P will be the same! M is gorgeaus, those pics on FB are fab of her and such a little girl now, they seem to grow so quickly!

RachieW · 20/08/2009 11:54

Jenwa- Sorry to hear about the appt too but like you say it is good that they are checking you over properly. J had a footless babygro from Pumpkin Patch, it was so cute. I need to go back there and do more shopping.

50ft- Yay for walking- what a clever girl Sorry to hear about Verbaudet, I've had quite a few things from there and must have been lucky with the customer services.

HMM- I don't think it's PND although I did worry on Tues that it could be. But I don't think these epidsodes are frequent enough? Don't know much about it to be honest. Also I've just realised I'm due on today so probably it's pmt mixed with stressing about packing for holiday. Hope so.

When are you supposed to change car seats? Am confused! J still fits in his and I'm sure it can go up to a year or a bigger weight than he is.

Got a new buggy yesterday and on first look it seems good. It's the Chicco London, it was only £59 from kiddicare. I won't use it much, just want a lighter one for the car. I love my proper pram, it's a joy to push so will be sticking with that when we are out and about walking.

Well we are off to Dorset tomorrow so I am manically packing. I'm sure I'll pop back on before we go but just wanted to say have a great time at the meet up and take lots of pics so I can be nosey and see what I missed

Ekka · 20/08/2009 15:51

Rachie - change car seats to forward facing as late as possible! The most important factor is weight, once they are too heavy for the seat they need to move to the next stage (our Group 0+ goes up to 13kgs, I think a Group 0 only goes up to 10kgs?). But also if the top of their head is above the top of the seat then they need to be moved - see this link

To be honest, we moved dd before we needed to, mainly because she would sit with her head craned round the seat looking forwards for an entire journey. But we will be trying to keep ds in the rear-facing seat for as long as possible.

We've not gone for Isofix for the same reason as you HMM, we want to be able to move the seat between different cars. We have the Evolva 123, pure & simple because it was relatively cost effective at the time we got it, even if we did only use it for 5-6 years. And it fits well in both our cars which some of the other options didn't do ...

On the subject of car seats - has anyone considered a rear-facing group 1 carseat instead of the usual forward facing ones?

Ekka · 20/08/2009 15:57

Sorry, just realised that was a really, really boring post. But no time for anything more interesting, dd has just worked out how to climb up and turn the hall lights on and off....

RachieW · 20/08/2009 17:55

No Ekka, thank you. I've saved the link in my favourites for later. Had J weighed today and he is 19lb 11oz so a way to go still until he is too heavy and his head isn't over the top yet either.

How high are your hall lights? Or is she using a chair?

Just about to get the dc to bed, back later -

Myjob - We have an Audi 3, but it's a company car. When I learn to drive (once I'm allowed to have lessons, not allowed to drive until 8 weeks post op) I am going to get a boring family car. Not a Mini. I have a suggestion for our DSs, I am sure they must have a dungeon at the castle. Just lock them up for the day, with Jenwa's dd1 if she plays up too and bliss will be ours!

star6 · 20/08/2009 19:29

Ekka your dd is so cute, I'd let her turn lights on and off all day!!

he he to the dungeons .

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/08/2009 20:18

I'm sure that my dd will give the rest of the naughty mischievous children a run for their money, especially if she hasn't slept much the night before, which tends t be the case when we're staying here.

Pics just going on facebook of safari park.

Where has this myth come from that you can't easily move an isofix seat to another car? It's just as simple to move to a non-isofix car as a non-isofix seat would be!

Sorry to hear that you're having to undergo a complete MOT Jenwa. Are you busy tomorrow btw? Mum and dad are both working in the afternoon, and have a feeling that you mentioned that you sometimes go to Ghaluvelt (sp) Park. If it's nice weather we'd be happy to meet you there for a bit in the afternoon.

Myjob - That's one thing I don't have to worry about with my DS. He only has eyes for his 'girlfriend' and is not remotely interested in any other women. He might behave himself with younger children to impress. He was being stalked followed around by a sweet little lad at the park today and he was very good and very patient.

Rachie - I was going to say that thanks, but I wouldn't call what M did walking, however tonight she took a definite step towards me. She is still miles away from walking as her balance is terrible but she is getting the idea. She is itching to be able to walk but she's only just started crawling properly! PND is a bit like regular waves of PMT. Sometimes you feel fine other times you just can't cope with anything and feel like running away for it all. I am utterly convinced I had PND with DS and the thing for me was the anger and frustration. Not anger so much with DS, but anger with myself and with DH for not being able to deal with it. I keep wondering if I have a touch this time, then I remember what time of the month it is! For me it is just PMT, no doubt about it.

Jenwa - The specialist referral is a big step in the right direction. Try not to worry, I know it;s easier said than done, but everything that can be done is being done. Oh and I meant to reply to your post of ages ago. Your dds won't get picked on. At primary school they don't notice mums being different. There are some very large, very unusual looking mums down at DS's school and none of the children think anything of it. There was even a Dad that looked like Quosimodo, but DS never ever commented. As Myjob said, they're more likely to comment on the tall leggy yummy mummy.

Ekka - Your post was informative, not boring.

CSWS - I have ordered. I am skeptical about 12-24 month bodysuits but I bow to your better judgement as I know you think highly of them. You should hopefully get your discount code soon!

M has been so frustrating today. She has been getting really fed up with everything and screaming and shouting lots. I'm hoping she's just been a bit tired but she's not been herself today. DS on the other hand has been a poppet today. Why can't they both just be pleasant?

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/08/2009 21:54

Well I'm not convinced that they'll be a perfect fit for a full year, but I reckon they will last a fair while. Have you ordered long or short sleeved ones? The sleeves are very long on the long sleeved ones, but can obv be turned up for the time being, and no doubt ds' arms will also seem very long in a year's time! The short sleeved ones obv have no worries about sleeve length, so should seem the 'right' fit for longer.
I am certainly pleased with the quality of them, and am converting my rl friends to them too. The flared dresses, which look crap on their website, are actually lovely in RL - 2 of dd's friends have them now as well as her (hers will be too big for this summer, but perfect for next).
They say do not tumble dry, and as a public service we have now tried tumble drying one bodysuit and comparing it to the non-dried ones. It is a good bit smaller, so only tumble dry if you want it to shrink a bit for a tighter fit.

Honeymoonmummy · 20/08/2009 22:10

Hey all,

Jenwa, I'm sorry about your appointment. Like MM says, hopefully they will get to the bottom of it.

MM, you've hit the nail on the head exactly on how my PND is. I had a bad few days a couple of days ago.

I went for my first prescription exercise appt today, it was lovely to get back in a gym

What has everyone bought (other than Rachie) for lightweight buggies? I haven't done any research yet. I'm not sure whether to bother.

pepperrabbit · 20/08/2009 22:13

hello all,
I finally finally got to see the consultant today after a months wait. He took one look at my wrist and said that I certainly didn't have what my Dr thought I had (as if that should have been sooo obvious!) and I've probably done something more strctural which will prob need surgery . Have to have an MRI first. Apparently, where I'm double jointed I've bent too much somehow and then somethings given way. Also I am classed as "very hyper-mobile" not just hyper-mobile, oh no, very hyper mobile . I can tell you're jealous!
He was hilarious, he's bending my hands and going "no, normal people can'tdo that...., or that.....no, definitely not THAT..."
If it's a help, all my fingers bend 90 degrees upwards, and I can touch my wrist (inside) with my middle finger. I thought that was normal.
Are you all trying that now?
