Yes, it does seem like a bit of a "gesture". Ok, no one can even hint at the fact that I've told you ANYTHING about our relationship on MN or FB. Promise!! DH would be SO if he knew and it would make things LOADS worse.

I'll chat with him tomorrow and see what he wants to do.

50ftQueenie · 18/08/2009 21:46

Star - Even I promise to hold my tongue I too have Italian blood and am way too fiery to have been so calm. I bite every time, absolutely every time. I think you have probably scored yourself some serious points there! Well done! You should graciously accept DH's offer and not do what I would do which is be stupid stubborn grump and refuse to go.

Rachie - I am sure we have all been there at some point. With DS is was absolutely itching to get back to work and although I missed DS, I was a better, calmer, happier mummy once I was back at work. So although I saw him less, the time we spent together was so much better as I was so much happier. Second time round and I feel different. Only this time we have a bigger mortgage, bigger house so greater outgoings and obviously two kids to pay for, so I need to go back to work more than I did with ds! Typical!

Has anybody taken a child on an 8 hour flight at the age of 15 months? We are supposed to be going to visit DH's sister in the states at New Year, but I am having my doubts as to whether this is fair on M. It would mean that M and I would stay home while DH and DS would go with my brother (who is good friends with my SIL). Which would mean that DH and I would be apart for New Year. My mummy would be around so we would be there every day so I wouldn't be on my own. What do you think?

Eeeeek Myjob - Hadn't thought of it like that. I can't ask him not to go as he wants to see his sister, but at the same time I don't think it's fair on M. Argh!!!! Oh and they have two dogs and two cats. The dogs are babied so don't think they'll be kept away from the dc and I am deathly allergic to cats. I don't really want M near dogs.

Honeymoonmummy · 18/08/2009 23:31

I promise not to say anything either Star. I bet it was because you reacted so reasonably to him going out with no notice, u made him feel guilty - well played!

Yes Star, ginger hair is picked on in school, and I'm really worried that she'll be picked on for it as I was bullied at school and they don't need much reason. i've noticed that they seem to love ginger hair in the USA? Another reason to move there...

How are u feeling about giving up the BF now it's so close MyJob? Poppy has gone a bit weird on the BF front recently, I dunno if cos she's teething or age/ she wants to be out and about but she just isn't feeding as long any more. I've read in 2 books that at 9 months you should consider dropping the first thing in the morning BF and just go straight to breakfast - has anyone else done this or have an opinion on this?

We went to get a new car seat today. Not keen on the Which no. 1 one as we tried it in the car and it wobbled around a lot so gone for the Maxi Cosi Tobi? Seemed to be the best non- isofix one.

I'm off to bed anyway, night night all!

jenwa · 19/08/2009 08:40

star yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I so want to meet you so you have to come and no we wont say anything to dh, god we all rant about them on here and on that note dont tell my dh how much I have ranted about his parents Your DH has been very childish and you have handled it fab, he appears to have wanted a reaction and now no doubt thinks he has been silly. Dont ask him what he wants to do just say that you would love to go so its up to him if he really does want to come with you.

MM my friends have taken their children before and its been ok. I think the longer haul fligts are more accomodating for kids and as long as you take shed loads of stuff on the plane to entertain her she will be fine. There are often afew threads on here about it and what to take so may be worth having a look or starting one as you may get some good suggestions/ideas. I would go it would be sooo exciting!

hm shame as kids get picked on for anything now I worry my dd's will get picked on for having a deaf mummy

Got appt with consultant this am for my hearing, am sooo scared! I hate going, have to do hearing test and makes me so nervous. My tummy is already in knots and I feel sick! Will update you all later.

KSal · 19/08/2009 09:22

Star, that's great news and it seems like it is a gesture from him. I think CSWS is right his friend probably pointed out how silly his behaviour was. I think your reaction to him going out was incredibly impressive and probably made a huge difference.

I'm soooooo envious that you are all meeting up . I really want to meet you all!

pistachio... that's good to know re the biting. Ironically when i turned up at nursery yesterday they said she had done it to one of the nursery nurses when she had been nuzzling her shoulder that day. I guess we just need to be clear with her when she does it that its not ok. Its a little sad because she's almost doing affectionately iyswim, so i feel mean!!!

50ft, we're taking emma on a 12 hour flight to south africa in a couple of months for her uncle's wedding. I'm pretty nervous, but am hoping she will sleep for most of it. She managed pretty well at 5 months but was less mobile then.

good to hear she loved the swimming!

RachieW · 19/08/2009 15:20

Thanks for all your kind messages. We're having a much better day today though I think ds is teething which makes me feel even more like an evil mum for being so with him yesterday.

50ft- Not sure what I'd decide about flying with M. You really are stuck between a rock and a hard place. On a positive note a friend flew to Washington with her dc who was 13 months and she said it was fine. Do you have to decide now or do you have a bit of thinking time?

Jenwa- hope the appt went well.

Ksal- I forgot to comment in my last post but I think J sometimes bites out of love. He'll be nuzzling my shoulder and give me a little nip. He hasn't done it for a while thankfully.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/08/2009 15:47

on way back from a day at the seaside. Dc had a great time.

myjob have you tried lukewarm camomile tea on her bottom?

Mm - we took dd on a 1.5 hrs flight at 18 months and that was more than long enough! Plus you would have the time difference to deal with once you were there, so personally I'd give it a miss. And I LOVE nyc (think that's where you said but can't scroll now on phone).

4th tooth is def through now btw. Better night last night, but the trains do wake ds, which is rather annoying.

Can't remember what else i've read now.

Ekka · 19/08/2009 16:03

MM, we took M aged 8 months to Vancouver - 10 hr flight, 8 hr time difference. DD was 2. As long as there are 2 adults its ok and you will only have to pay for 1 child's seat until M is 2, so better sooner rather than later IMO.... And my dd is an absolutely non-stop wriggle, but we survived. The time difference is a problem for a couple of days but after that wasn't bad at all, so best to stay for a decent visit. After all if you are staying with family it shoudln't cost much more to stay for a little longer?

Hmm, actually with dd the first thing in the morning feed was the last one to go at 14 months. But I think it depends when your dc wake up & how close to breakfast the feed is. She has always been an early riser, so it bought me some time to have a shower etc before having to dash & get breakfast .

CSWS - glad to hear that you seem to be having some fun days out, though its a shame that the heat is affecting your dcs sleep.

Star, well done for the mature response to your dh, much better than I would have managed!

Sorry, can't remember all I've read. Thanks for the advice on my lumpy arm. The doc reckons its either a ganglion or lypoma (is that what its called - a lump of fatty stuff, not the cancerous thingy!). So not to worry but if it continues to be painful they can see about removing it if I want.

several of the mums at my first baby group picnic were bigging up the tobi. Kiddicare do it for a good price, but also halfords apparently are doing a good price at the moment.

I'm thinking of getting a britax evolva 1-2-3 because they have them in costco for cheap and it should last til she's about 12!

KSal · 19/08/2009 17:16

loving my rubbish english.

by the way myjob i was doing a trawl of MN threads and quite a few people recommended using eggwhite as a barrier for a bad nappy rash. never tried it, but i like the idea of it!!

MyJob, I didn't think metanium was very good when i tried it, I found bepanthen MUCH better, may be worth a try? I know our Tesco sells it?

Just thought I'd post this link to cheer you all up www.mockpaperscissors.com/?p=22421

Rachie, I forgot to say yesterday, sorry you're having a hard time. I get like that with Poppy and I just have to walk away. For me it's mainly because of the PND. If it happens to you a lot, have you considered you might have PND?

Poppy started clapping today

Hopefully I'll be back later.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/08/2009 20:07

KSal - I'm not sure if the review is on their site any more, but the Evolva 1-2-3 has had terrible reviews from Which in the past. The Evolva 2-3 is meant to be good though, and in fact I think that's what dd has now.
And although the seat is suitable for all ages, did you know that you shouldn't actually use a car seat more than 6 years after manufacture? I'll see if I can find the article I read about this a few years ago.

I knew that there was something else that I wanted to comment on, and pistachio and Ekka have reminded me. The morning feed is the last one left for dd to drop, so I wouldn't find it a good one to drop first at all! Especially if the child in question is sleeping through, then she is likely to be v thirsty/hungry upon waking.

Probably doing the safari park tomorrow.

Will go sort some pics for facebook shortly.

KSal · 19/08/2009 20:26

oh crikey, thanks CSWS will look into it further

star6 · 19/08/2009 21:03

MM I can't believe how different M looks now!! She was always gorgeous of course, but she looks like a little girl now! Can we have some of that beautiful hair for Q please??

star6 · 19/08/2009 21:03

sorry. meant to write 50ft

Honeymoonmummy · 19/08/2009 21:20

CSWS my DH told me that fact just today, but he said 5 years, dunno where he heard it tho.
