Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
daisydora · 22/07/2009 10:32

TBH I'm just fed up of the kids by 7pm usually. The sooner they are in bed the better, even if DS does keep waking up!

waitinggirl · 22/07/2009 10:44

arti - what a morning - poor you! we were thinking of ttc as soon as my periods start again, but to be honest with you, i am terrified of how i will (not) cope with two. all those of you with two: respect.

good luck, trace - will be thinking of you

well, a shite night - i am getting a cold, not sf, and i had to go up to madam 7 times before midnight, so we kicked dh out to the spare room and i slept with her in my bed. she was up about 5 times, but shoved hte boob in her gob and off she went (after a while).

i need to get her to take a bottle. i need to get her out of our room. i need to find a way of someone else, other than me, putting her to bed. i need to find a way of her sleeping THROUGH. i need, i need, i need... ugh.

so jealous of you with sleeping through babies.

waitinggirl · 22/07/2009 10:48

oh, and this is the book which helped me get from someone who couldn't run for 5 minutes to running a couple of 10ks (not without a bit of walking, i admit) ... www.amazon.co.uk/Zest-Running-Made-Easy-Magazine/dp/1843404346/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=124825 4713&sr=8-3

mind you, haven't done that for 2 years now.

pmk1 · 22/07/2009 11:40

WG that book looks great. I have always wanted to like running, but always hated it, and didn't help that dh says it's terrible for the knees, but I might have to invest in this!
Hope you can get dd to take the bottle soon as then you can get a break. I can't imagine BF for that long so am very impressed, but you need to have more options now as you say, for someone else to take over some times.

What different things have you tried so far with getting her to sleep in her own room?
When my neice was very young (2mths) they were all in an awful car accident. To cut a long story short my niece was breast fed, but suddenly not able to be anymore as her mother was in ICU. They tried to pump her but it didn't happen so I had flown home and here was me, clueless about babies with 3 kids to look after, one of which would not take a bottle or formula, period. Bottom line was - she ate when she had to as she was hungry. I persevered for ages with bottle nipple on cheek etc. Eventually she took it and never looked back. it didn't take long cold turkey like that, but it was the only option at the time, and I know it would be hard when you know you have the boob she wants. Someone else has to do it, but not sure if for me it was easier as the baby was so young

Kayzr · 22/07/2009 11:47

Just rang HV for some help with DS2's sleep. She wants us to go in this afternoon as it needs a long chat. She said that he should be sleeping through every night now as he is 7 months. She wants to check his eating patterns.

pmk1 · 22/07/2009 12:00

oooh Kayz, i'd be very interested to hear what she says about eating / sleeping patterns so do come and report back please!

Kayzr · 22/07/2009 12:12

I will do. I think she is thinking he doesn't eat enough so that is why he wakes up.

LadyThompson · 22/07/2009 12:14

Proper post later but PMK, is Mr PMK knees? I seemed to remember he was an orthopod but we know a few - one of our friends is shoulders and then one of my cricketers is something else in that line...I don't have anything wrong with my knees, just interested!

pmk1 · 22/07/2009 12:17

I do find that ds wakes up if I know he obviously hasn't had his normal amount in the day for whatever reason etc... it used to be a viscious cycle, as back when he used to not sleep through for that period, he was waking and I'd shove dummy in a million times a night, then in the daytime he was knackered from waking all night for dummy, mthen napped too much in the day therefore didn't take enough food, therefore waking at night! All back to front.... but I "mean mummy cold turkied him" and things are going well now - touch wood

pmk1 · 22/07/2009 12:19

Lady,he has rotated around all the bones, but at moment it's hips and I think he's going to Spine at RB but could be wrong as don't think it's confirmed yet which boss he has.

daisydora · 22/07/2009 12:34

No decision on redundnacy today . The consultation period ends today, so a manager will ring me tomorrow with a decision I find it hard to believe no-one knows anything!

Kayz - it'll be interesting to see what your HV says and why she thinks he should be sleeping through. DS couldn't possibly eat anymore without throwing up and he has only ever slept through twice. Although I generally think HV's spout a load of tosh, so ignore me!!!

Kayzr · 22/07/2009 12:52

See Daisy I don't think he could really eat much more. He has 2 8oz bottles, weetabix and fruit for breakfast, a large jar and a yogurt for lunch and dinner. He also has fruit and sugar free rusks during the day.

spotofcheerfulness · 22/07/2009 13:14

Blimey Kayz that's fantastic eating! T must eat about an eighth of that! Will be v interesting to hear what your HV says.

LadyThompson · 22/07/2009 13:25

If we are talking consumption, DD has:

Breakfast - 7oz bottle, small dish of puree (when I say puree, this is anything from a proper puree to smushed up veggie lasagne or anything really)

Lunch - 7oz bottle, small dish of puree, a few rice cakes or similar finger foods

Dinner - 7oz bottle, small dish of puree, a little soft fruit in lumps to feed herself.

I have no idea if this is enough or too much, but it's the amount she seems to want so I am going by that...

daisydora · 22/07/2009 13:33

Bloody hell, Kayz the little fella can't get much more in than that! Thats brilliant eating.

DS has

Weetabix/porridge for brekkie (sometimes a 4/5oz bottle with it)

Small jar/homemade puree plus dessert(fruit/yoghurt) for lunch

Mid afternoon a 5oz bottle

Small jar/homemade puree plus dessert for dinner

Weetabix/porridge(sometimes) for supper followed by an 8oz bottle.

He has the odd finger food here and there during the day and still has a 5oz bottle during the night.

tillyfernackerpants · 22/07/2009 14:00

kayz another one interested to hear what your HV has to say!

Ds2 has:
Breakfast - porridge or 1/2 oatabix, 6oz bottle
11am - 6oz bottle
1pm - veg puree & fruit
3pm - 6oz bottle
5pm - veg puree & fruit or toast fingers
7pm - 8oz bottle

Crikey, when its written down like that, that's loads

artichokes · 22/07/2009 14:12

Oooh, I like lists. DD2 has

6am breastfeed (no idea how much milk but feels like alot)

7am one small pot of fruit puree or a chopped up banana to feed herself (and drop on the floor)

11am 6oz bottle (or if I am home then a BF)

12 noon something like pitta bread and hummous to feed herself (and smear on the walls). Some fruit chunks (to squash into her hair)

3pm 6oz bottle (or BF)

5.30pm fusilli pasta in tomato sauce (to through at me) and a yoghurt

6.3pm Breastfeed

artichokes · 22/07/2009 14:13

throw not through

tillyfernackerpants · 22/07/2009 14:15

If anyone has any advice they can offer, I'd be grateful , just about ds1's eating habits!

Kayzr · 22/07/2009 14:24

Ds2 has breakfast at 7am so weetabix and mushed banana, peach etc.

10:30 an 8oz bottle usually followed by a rusk or some fruit.

1pm a large jar and a yogurt or a large pudding jar.

2-3pm nap.

4pm he has a rusk or some fruit or both.

5pm another large jar and yogurt.

7pm 8oz bottle.

Then if we put him to bed at half 7 he is up 2/3 times a night. But if he goes to bed at 11 then he'll sleep until 5.

pmk1 · 22/07/2009 14:53

Oh Arti - Gee i laughed.......!!

DS has(roughly)

6 or 7am - 7oz bottle
then skydives for a little on his tummy.

Naps....

9 or 10am - Fruit puree, yoghurt or porridge or sometimes Ella's kitchen baby breakfast, and sometimes 4 or 5oz bottle as well.

Sometimes naps a little
skydives again..... bit of dooor bouncing along with James Morrison (a particular favourite)

1pm-ish puree of some sort (today my sweet pot & carrot job, mixed with bit of cream cheese but paying way more attention to the cleanly folded washing on table next to him and trying to stuff socks in his mouth
oh and he's eating it just now and I know he's had enlough as he starts the raspberry thing so now i'm covered in it and so is the washing - too bad, not washing it again!
if he didn't have the bottle with last feed he will have about 6ox now....

then he will nap in the afternoon a bit hopefully......

Then at about 5-530 either my purees or Organix or Ellas kitchen pouch, then about

6pm a bath (sometimes)

630pm - 7oz bottle but sometimes half before bath and finishes it after or sometimes all after.

7pm (if he can last) bed....

however, not very strict and if out and about it wildly varies.....

Gosh that took for ever to post inbetween cleaning myself up of sprayed puree.....

Veggiemummy · 22/07/2009 14:59

Gosh I'm a little embarrassed, I am completely unable to do a list this is the best I can do

BF about 5-6 times full feeds.

Solids assorted fruits throughout the day that can be held
Assorted raw veggies also hand holdable
Assorted breadsticks baby biscuits rice cakes etc.
Whatever DS1 is having for dinner if appropriate.

As DS1 didn't really eat much in the way of solids until 10 months and is a decent sized bugger Im taking a quite lazy relaxed approached to his food.

Kayz I would listen to the HV but in the end it's what works for you and DS2. I have a friend who has the same thing, if she puts her son to bed at 9 he wakes at 6am if they put him down at 7am he wakes at 4am!!!

OP posts:
pmk1 · 22/07/2009 15:00

oh and in between - water practising in his cup but most goes down his front and rice cakes, carrot sticks or rusks to throw for the dog....

spotofcheerfulness · 22/07/2009 15:01

I like this food show and tell. T has

7am: 4oz bottle
8am: some kind of breakfast (fruit puree, oatibix, or toast or yoghurt)
11.30/11.45: attempt at lunch. This usually doesn't go down so well as he's v tired by the time he's hungry so usually a few teaspoons of puree followed by 3oz bottle
2pm: second attempt at lunch. Maybe some hummous, a bit of fruit, a few more spoons of puree
3.30 (if I'm lucky): 4oz bottle
5.30: massive dinner (eaten as if I've been starving him all day) followed by indigestion
6.30/7: 6oz is bottle
10.30pm 2 oz milk (not sure why I bother only I'm scared if he doesn't have this he'll wake even earlier!).

Successes: macaroni cheese, fish pie, lentils
Failures: anything with parsnip, chicken, yesterday's jar of cottage pie.

He's up a lot in the night which I usually put down to teeth/ obstreperousness

LadyThompson · 22/07/2009 15:22

This is really interesting. Now I am starting to wonder if I am a control freak
