No sitting up here!
Hope you get some kip this arvo Effie.

daisydora · 20/07/2009 09:08

effie all out parent & toddler groups here are cancelled for the summer months. I can't face another soft play place, and am bored of the park. But if we don't go out DD tends to spontaneously combust come the afternoon

I am supposed to find out on Wednesday if I get made redundant. Even though I think it will probably be a good thing in the long term if I do get it, I am feeling strangely apprehensive about the decision.

Kayz, DS is a fan of the jar but only the smooth ones. If I cook for him it tends to be lumpier and a much thicker consistency, therefore he has a couple of spoonfuls, gags and then shuts his mouth! But like you say if he can shove it in himself he'll give it a good go. Shame alert...he did eat 3 of DD's McDonalds fries on Saturday. As I was sat there I kept thinking "there will be a MN'er in here somewhere he will post an AIBU thread about a mother giving her baby McD's"

traceface · 20/07/2009 09:12

conversation this morning:
Lucy - "there is a problem"
me - "What's the problem?"
Lucy- "well the problem is this"
me - "what?"
Lucy - "well this is the problem"
me - "go on, what's the problem?"
Lucy - "well you see Phoebe is a nice name for a baby but not for when she's a big girl or older. It's a problem"
!!!!

Morning lovely ladies!

I am back from Italia and just bookmarking...more later....

pmk1 · 20/07/2009 10:37

Hilarious Trace!!!

Hey - I was thinking about the sleeping thing - with ds, as well as being full I recently changed what he sleeps in as it was making him wake. What does P (with the unsuitable big girl name ) sleep in? ds was in a nappy and short sleeved body suit, with a extra large muslin sheet over him, but he was always getting tangled. I bought a summer weight sleeveless bag and just put him in a nappy and nothing else, and it made a huge difference! He's always chnaged direction in the morning, but he doesn't get all tangled and wake up from that anymore....
just a thought.....
Hello Lady!!

pmk1 · 20/07/2009 10:38

I meant "sleeping bag" - I don't just put him in a bag

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2009 11:23

DS2 up all night again lastnight I'm sure it's teeth as today he us well and bright as a button except for the two fangs of clear snot coming out of his nose.

Also only just sitting here if put in the seated postion, he can't actually get himself there. He seems to prefer being on all fours rampaging about the house and assaultingpatting the cat.

Trace they will ask you to summarize your experience to date. Do so briefly but make sure you highlight your team working abilities in particular with other health professionals and hospital school staff. Also if you are particularly good with phone communication highlight that and maybe give examples and any working groups you have been involved. They will ask you a child protection question maybe if you see a child withdrawn and Mage bruised or if a child discloses something. In the answer you don't want to jump to conclusion let them know you would briefly investigate, ie you may find the bruised child has just had a fight the day before in the playground of something like that. If it does have to go further if it would not put the child at risk you need to let the parents you are escalating the matter and you would contact the schools CP officer your own nursing CP on call and if it is an emergency, ie you feel the child is in eminent danger of actual physical or emotional abuse and for doe bizarre reason in school hours you can't get in contact with these two people you would contact a duty social worker from the child & family team.

Sorry Trace gotta go DS2 is kicking off but otherwise as I have said new challenges for SN are obesity riding diabetes type 1 & 2, and more children with complex care needs coming into mainstrem due to inclusion policy. Really sorry gotta go.

madam is a couple of days off 7 months and can sit up pretty well. however, she refuses even to attempt to roll over from her back or get anywhere near crawling. she is quite happy lying on her back, legs up in the air - bodes well for the future???

an awful night last night. i am getting sick and tired of the waking and feeding - i retreated into the spare room - i just need to sleep in a room which doesn't have a sodding baby in it. have cried most of this morning.

dh not on best form, either - what with fil getting his scan results this week, and the general fog of gloom which has descended on him. we are all feeling a little bit sorry for ourselves.

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2009 13:26

Wow have just realized when I posted before I missed heaps of posts from the next page. LOL at Trace's mess up with the naming of her 2nd born DD, and hellooo Lady lovely to hear you back.

WG I'm really worried about you and DH is it possible to see somebody or even get someone in to watch DD so you can go out for a coffee together somewhere, I feel like you are so loaded with worries at the moment and on top of that are so worried about each other, it all just seems too much to handle. I wish there was something I could do.

Hello everyone

Am just catching up while M lies o the bed near me. Hope he doesn't learn to crawl in the next 10 mins or it'll be a quick trip to Kings

Trace - what a dear Lucy sounds, and what a fab eater P is. Alas we are slow in the eating here. M is doing mainly BLW with a few spoon feeds thrown in, but judging by the contents of his nappies not that much is getting in him when he feeds himself. My floor is getting a good wash on a daily basis though. I suppose he'll get there in the end. I am very encouraged that you are applying for school nurse jobs, as you have a very good communication style. I'd love my DDs to be told about things like HPV by someone like you when they are bigger.

Ciao ladyT, great to see you.

WG, I second what Veggie says about getting some time on your own without R. You and DH must be under so much stress as you wait for news, and the constant broken nights cannot be helping. Indeed they would be enough by themselves to send one over the edge. Is there someone around who could take her just for an hour to allow you to recharge? We had the big lunch in our road yesterday and I discovered 3 new surrogate grannies for my kids. Could not wait to get their hands on a bit of baby flesh and were passing him around as we sat in the wind. He LOVED it. Is there someone near you who could take her just for a bit? Am thinking of you and sending lots of love and best wishes to you and your DH.

Hello Veggie, any progress on our Paris meet up? And London ladies, shall I try and organise something for us all in August? Would people prefer lunch or an evening do sans bebes?

I am impressed by all the people TTC. I think Zoe, you asked me how I knew I was pg when I had not had a period since 2006. I get this dog nose and very sore boobs every time I've been pg. I realised that I could smell my colleague's open jar of instant coffee across the open plan office which combined with a tight bra was enough to convince me to buy a test. Am hoping not to have to buy another test in the future, though I still haven't had a period.

Daisy, fingers crossed about the redundancy. I know what you mean about not really knowing how you feel = it's very unsettling. Looks like I am down to one day a week for a year in lieu of being made redundant, but still have not had the formal notification.

PMK, M sleeps in just a vest or a vest and babygro if it's colder. WE had a summer weight bag but it's gone AWOL so he's managing in just his night clothes.

Effie, huge sympathies on the sleep but hurrah for DS1 and his potty antics. It's a long slow process sometimes isn't it but he WILL get there! Hope you have had some rest. I use a cunning DVD to enable me to rest a bit if I've had a rotten night.

Hello Kayz, sorry about your ankle, hope you are feeling better today.

Good to see you Turnip, I am afraid I am no good at facebook but it's lovely to see you on here.

Right, M cryinhg so better go. Hello to everyone I've missed and hope to be back later.

EffiePerine · 20/07/2009 19:50

Well we had a lovely day, spent the afternoon at the seaside with a friend of DH's who has sensibly hired a beach hut for the first fortnight of the summer holidays. A very nice woman with three beautiful boys

Erk, Max has just pooed through his banygro - better go!

EffiePerine · 20/07/2009 19:58

Ick. Just after I'd given him a bath as well. He seems to not react well to meat or dairy in purees am thinking of sticking to offering them as finger foods with fruit and veg as purees as I suspect the gobbling of anything offered on a spoon may not be helping. Would that make sense?

Good luck for your interview Trace, I'm sure you will be great

EffiePerine · 20/07/2009 20:18

not sure that last post made any sense -missed out some punctuation somewhere

artichokes · 20/07/2009 20:33

Sorry things are still so hard WG. I wish I could do something to help. Can you give yourselves a special treat to lift your spirits? What always makes you both happy?

Welcome back LadyT, now get back here and tell us about your holiday.

How did the interview prep go Trace? (Veggie your advice sounded great - what a mine of health related info you are)

Hi Sybs, nice to see you. It does not look like I am going to persuade DH to move in your direction . The houses we saw were mainly in Herne Hill and it looked like a great neighbourhood.

Well today was almost bearable at work. Allan Sugar became a member of the House and I met him which had some amusement value. I also managed to make a semi-sensible point in a meeting so maybe my brain is slowly coming back to life. I was rather tired though as DD1 dreamt she was a lion last night and as a result she bit her finger 'til it bled and had us all up at 1.30am. Thankfully Mrs Sleep's magic still seems to be working on DD2.

Kimberly1979 · 20/07/2009 20:48

arti we are currently looking for places to live in the East Dulwich area. Our lease ends in August but we've also asked to extend on a month by month basis until we can find something we like and that's in our price range. We've also been looking in Nunhead and Camberwell as well.

Turnip J has been sitting up on his own for about a week now but we still have to give him a bit of support. I'm scared to death he's going to fling himself back and hit his head on the floor. But he's getting the hang of it nicely. He also start crawling today! He started rocking on all fours and then would bring one knee forward rock a bit and bring the other one forward! I was totally shocked he started doing that today especially since he's been so poorly.

* RANT ALERT *
Update on our household, we are all in quarantine. J and DH both bottomed out yesterday. J decided it was time to officially give me a heart attack and had a fever that shot up over 40º!! This was after giving him calpol. We went ahead and called NHS direct to see if I should take him to A&E and they told us to stay home and call the gp in the morning. They didn't want to risk us infecting other people. When I asked them should I go ahead and give J and cool bath to help get his temp down the lady told me no! She told me it was totally normal for their temp to go over 40º and that I wouldn't want him to start shivering. I almost had a shit fit! I asked which would be better, a little bit of shivering or convulsing!? She didn't really have a reply to that. Stupid woman!! So I get up this morning and call the GP who promptly tells me that J needs to be seen immediately and that I need to make an apt to come in. When we go in the lady that we saw proceeds to ask me why I'm there as I have not completed my doses of tamiflu. She tells me I should've had someone else bring my child in. I reply back with, "Well, I figured it would be stupid to ask a perfectly healthy individual to come and expose themselves to my sick child. She replies back, "well you being here is dangerous for other patients." and I counter with "Well then why did you ask for my child to come in and be seen?? He's just as much of a risk to patients as I am?" Anyway... after all of that we finally have the tamiflu and are all well medicated.

okay... rant over. Whew... I feel better! my apologies for any and all grammatical errors.

Turnip you had told me about the medised stuff... does it only come in adult doses?? Our "flu buddy" went to get it for me and said that they only had it for adults. Do they make it for babies??

Kimberly1979 · 20/07/2009 21:01

Okay... apparently I managed to miss a whole page of posts. whoops

Hi LadyT!!!

wg I'm so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time with R. I'm no help in the boob and babe department. But I agree with arti and sybil. Is there anything you can treat yourself to or someone who can give you a break even for a little while so you can re-coop?

Kay Been meaning to say that I hope your ankle feels better. Any news on what the damage is?? Hoping it's not your achilies (sp?). I hear that surgery and recovery time is pretty rough. Lots and lots of PT needed. Hoping it's just a sprain and that it'll heal quickly!!

trace cracking up about what Lucy said!!! Too funny!

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2009 21:12

Kimberley you poor thing, 2 patients! Medised has recently been removed from use for under 6 years. It causes hallucinations and can cause allergies apparently. The lady on the phone should have explained that if you cool a child with a high temp down too quickly it's body will respond to the outside temperature drop by shivering to increase it's temperature. This will cause it's core temperature to increase which is bad if the child already has a high temp. What you can do though is get a cool cloth and put it around the neck or under the arms. Also you can put a fan on in DS's room but not directed at DS have it facing away from him but moving the air in the room about. Also calpol I'd good but Neurofen is better but must be taken with food or after a feed and as it is a different drug to calpol can be given around the same time. However try to leave 6-8 hours between neurofen doses. Sorry you had such a hard time with the nhs that receptionist is a wombat!

Lady, I'm sure your probably tired after your trip but we've missed you, please just a little titbit from Lago di Como?!

LadyThompson · 20/07/2009 22:06

Of course Veggie! How's this: Venice on Wednesday for a daytrip in 36 degrees of heat, on a crummy trip with a duff tour guide which took us four hours on the coach with two moaning OAPs (Mum and her DP) and a pushchair (stairs all over the shop)? Not a sniff of culture. Couldn't get near it as there were big queues snaking round and round. Desperately tried to keep DD hydrated, had a horrible lunch and DD pooed over her white sunhat and the carseat (the nappy leaked) while we ate it (the bad lunch, not the pooey sunhat). Shame really. But a schoolboy error to go there high season.

Anyway, young Veggie, woss happening about this trip to gay Paree? If we can get cheapies I will come as I am a bit short of dough at the moment!

Lake Garda was very pretty but rather touristy, which I didn't actually mind. I got a bit fed up of the sight of my (many) spare tyres in my bikini when I sunbathed, but it meant I kept cheerfulness to a minimum and ate a plain salad for lunch every day...so managed not to put any weight on at least...It was lovely being with Mum and her DP is really nice, but after seven months of not interfering there was lots of unnecessary fussing about DD and we had a huge row on the way home . We never argue and it was a bad one and I hated it. It's all ok now though.

I have missed you all but have been reading along whilst away. Katie's pregnancy cliffhanger! Kayz's poorly ankle! Trace's interview prep! (Good luck by the way). Swine 'flu sweeping the thread from London to the North East! But not being able to join in is like being at a dinner party with Elastoplast stuck over my mouth. Torture! I am going to miss a few people here I know so forgive me, but I am bushed -

WG - I am so sorry for you, lovey. I really am. Sorry about your FIL as well. I know you were mulling it over and were a bit reluctant - but any further thoughts about putting Madam in a different room? It may make things worse, I don't know, but I so wish you could have some better nights and I am grasping at straws.

Kim, that sounds really frightening about J. Heavens above. Poor little chap.

Arti - so C's baby is due really soon? I hope it goes well for her. Please tell her I am thinking of her. Sorry your DH is turning up his nose at a different side of town. People get so stuck in their little grooves in London particularly - I am certainly guilty of this myself. Keep showing him houses and he may change his mind...(Though I would be sad to lose you from the Westside posse). I am so very glad that you are easing into work.

Tilly - you will make a lovely doula. Good for you.

JJ - if you are reading, I know you were having access issues - your DD is crawling? She is a real little skyrocket, isn't she? Is she our first girl crawler? I bet your DH is cheesed off with the swine 'flu stuff.

Sybs - how's the house of ill? (and also Indith any other sufferers). I am sorry about the one day a week thing. Will you manage financially? Any news on your job situation Daisy? My work were supposed to be coming back to me after my hol but I got a message from my boss to say her husband is in hospital and she can't think about it all just now...

Effie, I think you are being very calm about the whole TT malarkey! Three poos in pants in one day would have me reaching for the gin.

Lovely to see you back, Turnip! Hooray. What news?

Well, MY other news is

a) I won't have to pay a large sum of money to the Inland Revenue (phewph!)

and b) that the house we got outbid on came back onto the market after the buyers withdrew after a dodgy survey....so we are buying it. But I am reserving my excitement until we get OUR survey done, in case it's falling down! (The estate agent assures me it isn't, but......)

DD was ever so good on the hols but she has been a little unsettled since she got back. DP clearly missed us both hideously. He has been suffering from a mystery tummy pain for a few months now and has worked himself into a lather over it so we are off to the doctor tomorrow.

Tired but enthusiastic waves to people I haven't mentioned above...

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2009 23:14

So lovely to read your posts again Lady, sorry Venice wasn't better, I do love that city but I have only been in February and September. I have heard that in summer it is quite hot and touristy. The last time we went we cycled from Ferrera which is south of Venice and caught a ferry to the first island before Lido (sorry can't remember the name) from a town called Chioggia, it was really lovely and a teeny bit like Venice but not as packed with tourist, we quite liked it there. But Venice in cooler weather is nice.

Thrilled to bits that the IR thing is sorted and a good outcome for you, does the ex have to pay anything? Sorry that's a bit nosey, but I just find the whole thing such a shame esp when you have your FIL to consider. Fingers crossed the survey is ok, did the estate agent say what it was? Did they accept the offer you had originally wanted? It's very exciting.

Right better go to bed. I did a little test of my legs tonight, I did a ride around a hilly area near where I live then stowed my bike in the car and ran just 4km up a big hill and back. I wanted to see how my legs handled running off the bike as that has been my biggest problem for my last few triathlons, I'm a bit slow on the run because my legs are tired after the cycle. Well I certainly wasn't running at speed but it felt better than expected and there is time to improve. Oh someones up and not happy.

kimberley poor you, hope you all get better soon

Ds2 seems to have joined daisy ds in commando crawling, though he can only go backwards atm, which frustrates him as he can't work out why he isn't getting closer to the toy he wants!
