Wow that doula training sounds amazing, unfortunately it's not a big thing in Australia do not sure if I could do much with it, how much is the training, I know DH would def be into me doing it, and I would live it but just whether I could use it at home if expensive.

njan/veggie there are a few organisations running courses, I'm doing the Nurturing Birth course on a friend's recommendation. Prices vary but not as expensive as I thought it would be

Veggiemummy · 19/07/2009 11:21

Oh the one you are looking at looks quite good Tilly and I think I can do it up here. The price is very reasonable it is almost the same as an OU course in Diabetes I was going to do for my other professional development so I may just do this instead. Have had a look at Australian doula stuff and it is def gaining in popularity over there.

tillyfernackerpants · 19/07/2009 11:27

veggie I think it will become more popular, I think its only in the last 5yrs or so that doulas are becoming more known here. I guess it will just give you more options when you do go home.

artichokes · 19/07/2009 13:51

Hello Girls,

Trace - L looks so gorgeous! I have signed DD1 up for ballet next term & can't wait to see hercall dressed up.

Turnip - I have been trying to think or an Artichoke themed status update to put on FB for you but failed. My pic is of me holding both girls dressed in navy stripey dresses. Itiailals CM. Your status updates usually make me giggle.

Tilly - v jealous of the doula training. I would love to do a job like that but am enslaved to my salary at the mo.

NJAN - have you tried Aptimal follow on milk? Dd2 was refusing formula until I went back to work last week and the nanny tried the follow on milk. She loves it. Also I am sure if you leave DS2 to it at nursery he will eventually drink out of thirst. That worked for DD1 although she held out for longer than I had anticipated.

Kim - sorry about the swine flu. I hope you aren't feeling too bad. When are you guys thinking of moving?

Well the Dulwich houses were lovely. Big and light with lovely gardens. We met up with our local friends afterwards and had a lovely day. DH was better behaved than expected & has agreed to have a proper chat tonight but I am still not terribly hopeful.

Well we saw the

pmk1 · 19/07/2009 14:54

what did you see Arti?

Someone asked about solids and sleeping through? Not sure if it's solids or just enough food in general, but we had waking(s) last night, and the only thing that I can relate it too was not as much food down in the day.... Probably as he does nothing but spray it all over the place... Today I had to get completely changed as the bouncer myself and the dog got covered in sweet potato after a massive raspberry....
Other thing is he's not interested in holding food? Gave him rice cake's or carrot sticks etc and show him what to do then he eventually drops it and if he's in his bouncer and it's lying on his chest he just reaches down with his tongue and licks it! Is this normal to start off like that? Seems to be a while though that he's been doing this?

Veggiemummy · 19/07/2009 16:13

Who on here has trained as a mortgage broker, is it Katie? I'm sure there was someone who had done mortgage broking.

Turniphead1 · 19/07/2009 16:50

Ahhh - yes Arti I remember having a moments pause when a girl called C with a baby girl called N started at my yoga, and I thought "OMG is that Arti!!! - come north of the river!"

katie3677 · 19/07/2009 17:21

Nope, not me Veggie

Veggiemummy · 19/07/2009 18:27

Sorry Katie.

We've been around to a friends who lives close by who has the same 2 up 2 down house style as ours but has put in a little very basic side return and has converted their loft to a bedroom. We probably won't do the loft but may clear it our and put a basic floor in so it can be used as storage. We will however think about the side return. Our friend who is up from London is a very good handyman come complete rebuilder of the inside bits of houses and is quite interested in helping us do it so DH may take a week off and the 2 of them might do it which would be great as we could put the washing machine and fridge in it and put the dishwasher where it is and then have loads more space in the kitchen as well as a little sunroom type thing. It would be nice for us while we are here but also make the place more valueble for rental.

Sorry PMK your poor dog but I can't stop giggling at the thought of the hound getting sprayed with sweet potato, what did he do?

Turnip - DD2 is sitting-up but she has only become a proficient sitter in the past two weeks (she was seven months yesterday). Oddly she does not like sitting that much . DD1 first sat unaided at seven months exactly. Apparently anything between 6 and 8 months is normal for sitting.

pmk1 · 19/07/2009 21:14

lol veggie she is a labrador, so in typical style just licked it off herself, and then licked ds's hands then went for his face before I tackled her to the ground all while ds didn't break his succession of raspberries! Then she just stood by waiting for the fallen, pre licked rice cake....!
To answer your earlier question again - wasn't sure when we'd be visiting home again, but we have to move but dh is thinking we should just dump all our stuff in the new place and then get away for a bit and then unpack after a quick trip away - however home isn't really a quick trip I suppose..... though I think he has a good chunk of time off so possible in the next 2 months, but that's a bit optomisitc really.... We are def doing that long weekend to Italy for that cycling event in Oct.
That reminds me - all this talk of travel and Eurostar, I keep forgetting to mention - I get a discount thru work for tickets and can take 4 people with me @ reduced rate.... just have to find the time / money! But one of these days I'll go over for lunch with you all!
Anyway, I just cried watching that "Hello Goodbye" airport show.... what am I like! And I'm usually there all the time so shouldn't be like that for me! but since having ds, and being away from family, makes it totally different not really proper just lol

traceface · 19/07/2009 21:20

Turnip - nice to see you again . P is sitting well now but only mastered it over the last week - she's 7 months and a week now. L didn't sit up till 9 months. She's started to get on all fours and rock then flop onto her belly!
I just ordered a new bravado bra from t'interweb! I have one in black and it is sooooooooo comfy I wear it all the time. I mean I wear it for about a week, then wash it and wear another one and grumble about how uncomfy it is, then get my bravado one back and wear it for ages again....so I thought I'd spoil myself and buy me a second one! It's an ivory one - body silk seamless - the same as my black one I'm so excited about it arriving! Wish I'd done it months ago!
P woke up and fed at 11.30 last night, then woke again at 3 but she went straight back to sleep with the dummy - so only 1 feed in the night! Will try the dummy again tonight. She's eaten LOADS today so I'm hoping she'll be nicely full. She had yoghurt for breakfast, spaghetti in veggie sauce for lunch followed by strawberry and apple mush, breadstick snack, then sausage casserole for tea, still seemed hungry so had a piece of toast (in a manner of speaking!), a babybel and a yoghurt - then a BF before bed! Greedy girl - no wonder she has so many knees and chins!
well I'm off to bed now as I seem to be feeling more tired and fuzzy by the day at the moment. Sleep well babies and mummies xxx

pmk1 · 19/07/2009 21:29

wow Trace! So much food compared to my ds who is also 7 months and a week!! However he has mastered sitting up too - just this week but is a bit wobbly still and falls over unless I position his legs just right!

pmk1 · 19/07/2009 21:31

Turnip - she's a couple of weeks younger than ds and he just mastered it in the last few days - an I use the term loosely... I'm more worried about hi hand - eye cooordination as he keeps attempting his bottle of water but pokes his eye out!

Kayzr · 20/07/2009 07:15

Morning,

Turnip DS2 was 7 months a week ago and he can not sit up at all. He just tends to fall over.

I took the boys to Malton Show yesterday with Mum. DS1 loved it so much, he was constantly climbing on tractors and ride on lawnmowers. He really enjoyed watching the horses and cows. DS2 was amazed by the chickens that we looked at.

Hope everyone is well.

tillyfernackerpants · 20/07/2009 07:15

turnip ds2 is 7mo & a week & can't sit up yet. He's fine if he's supported but unsupported he tends to either slowly topple sideways or does a face plant!

trace how did P sleep? Hope all that food helped

pmk lol at your dog!

Ds2 woke up last night, not sure why! He was very happy, but I decided to get him a bottle & he went back to sleep while I was making it up.

daisydora · 20/07/2009 07:57

Morning all,

Wow Trace P can munch can't she.

Turnip - HELLLOOOO!!!

DS is a big boy and eats lots but won't touch anything with lumps - is everyone still on smooth (for those who aren't blw) or are you on mash iyswim? I do fret, as DD could eat a sandwich by this age, DS wouldn't have a clue. Although he did eat a chunk of cheese yesterday by squashing it to a pulp and then stuffing it in his mouth and sucking it to death!

traceface · 20/07/2009 08:05

morning! Well P woke up and fed twice last night and the dummy was not good enough, so even with all that food she wasn't full! or she's a cheeky monkey who enjoys her night time cuddles!
Veggie - can I pick your brain? what questions do you think they'll ask me in the interview? I'm going to try to go the library today and hopefully find the right building this time! Only 2 sleeps left and I feel a bit nervous. It's years since I've had an interview.
Well here commenceth 7 weeks of summer holiday so I may not be on as much in the day!

EffiePerine · 20/07/2009 08:28

Good luck for the summer hols! The main difference here is that some of our playgroups are cancelled for the summer so we have to find other stuff to do (grrr).

Turnip: DS2 is just sitting up but he still needs support and watching as he's v wobbly. DS1 was sitting by 5 months so I feel he is rather behind, but it seems that it's pretty normal! Are all of you well now?

Kimberley: saw your FB update, hope DS recovers from his flu soon.

We're off to the seaside this afternoon! So expect heavy rain

EffiePerine · 20/07/2009 08:31

oh and DS2 was awake and feeling ALL NIGHT last night, or at least it felt that way. I may be sneaking a quick sleep this afternoon as there will be other children to entertain DS1 . And thanks for all the positive thoughts on toilet training, DS1 was dry all day yesterday (though did several poos in his pants, the next thing to sort I suppose).

Am trying to mutlitask here - sneakily MNing while feeding DS2 his cereal and he's not happy at waiting between spoonfuls!

Kayzr · 20/07/2009 08:37

Daisy DS2 won't touch lumps. He has jars so we have about 25 jars of 7 month + food in the cupboard. He will happily eat toast, banana, apples and anything else he can hold. But he just spits out the lumpy food.
