Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sleep here still fairly erratic but DS down to one waking most nights since I started weaning but 4 wakings on a bad night, which is usually 2 or 3 times a week. He tends to have one uber-good night a week when he sleeps 7pm-5.30am but I feel worse for those cos I wake up zombified from the deep sleep and in a total panic that I've slept through him crying or worse. Up until I started weaning he was waking every 2-3 hours no matter what from 12weeks until 24 weeks. From 8 weeks to 12 weeks he slept 7pm-5am - sometimes I just despair with sleep, it doesn't bear any reason. Eventually they just seem to do it.

Know what you mean about the ear/throat thing Tree - I have that constant post-viral feeling. Tis horrid. I go to bed dosed on paracetomol most nights.

The thing with DS is there seems to be some magic spell on his first sleep and as soon as he has woken once that is it for the night and he then wakes every 2-3 hours. So if he wakes at 10pm he's up at midnight, 2.30am, 5am and then for the day at 5/6ish. But if he settles himself again at 10pm (he pretty much always gurgles a bit then) he will often sleep until 2/3/4am have one feed and sleep until 6. I've tried a dream feed and various other things and nothing seems to work. If anything the dream feed makes it worse as it breaks the magic spell. (Worryingly we do refer to the "magic spell" quite a lot in this household!)

DD was a terrible sleeper and she was still waking 2 or 3 times a night at 12mo, and still once at 15mo so I know I could be in for the long haul.

LenniEd · 14/07/2009 21:40

In fact, I've just dug out DD's baby book and she was waking every 3 hours until 9mo so on that comparison DS is a bloody good sleeper. Small mercies eh!

PatTheHammer · 14/07/2009 21:56

kitty I refer to Zach as the michelin baby frequently, especially in the white baby grows. Or Mr Stay-puff marshmallow man!

Lenni all sounds horribly familiar.....do we have the same baby??? You have just described last week .
Exception being that DD was reliably going through the night by this point so I am not used to the prolonnnnnnnnnnnnged sleep deprivation.

LenniEd · 14/07/2009 22:01

It's "The Hulk" in our house Pat bless them! Took him to docs today about his eye and first thing she said was "My word, he's enormous!" God job I don't take offence! I just say it must be all the chocolate I eat and then they don't know quite what to say

LenniEd · 14/07/2009 22:03

Good job even.

stripeywoollenhat · 14/07/2009 22:08

for coming on here and whining about c and her twice nightly wakings... {sometimes it's just once now, but i'm not really going to mention that in case she divines it in that special way of hers and decides that i'm taking her for granted or something). still wrecked here, no stamina at all.

dog, really glad move went well. very sweet dream sharing

moose, hope ds1 recovers fast and that it's not sf. am feeling a bit neurotic about sf, really, even though it's not really hit here yet.

also hope dd gets better soon, pat

LenniEd · 14/07/2009 22:17

Moan away Stripey - any-a-night wakings are too many. Humans just aren't designed to get up in the middle of the night, it plays havoc with your sleep and your sense of reason.

Also neurotic about SF. Mostly because of DH's asthma until now, but the little 6yo girl who died yesterday (or was it Sunday?) has really shocked me, I couldn't imagine how her family must feel. I am dreadful for fearing the worst with those kind of things.

PatTheHammer · 14/07/2009 22:18

Wave to stripey, hoping for a good night for you too. I hope DD better soon then she can stop whinging all the bloody time (I am sympathetic really )

Really should feed the beast and then attempt some shut-eye.

Oh, Kitty we have had similar poo of late. Just think its their gut getting used to the veg etc. Today he produced 2 proper man-sized logs no problem . is it too disgusting to say that I miss the BF poo. Not a baby anymore, and ........it stinks!

treedelivery · 14/07/2009 22:28

Am off to bed, night all.

Rofl at stay puff babies in white baby grows. DD has a velour white, and I could just eat her in it. For all the fancy outfits, a baby in a babygrow is one of the sweetest things. Not that that will stop me purchsing the outfits

Have emailed my line manager to...put off discuss going back to work. Was sick with nerves doing it. Hope she replies tomorrow as am nervous about asking. Wibble!

kittypink · 14/07/2009 22:29

LOL at man sized logs!

She seems to have settled a little now. Cant wait for sweetcorn poos!

LenniEd I think the little girl who died had other problems with her health as well as sf. I think its normal to worry. I do all the time!

Talking of zombie people, i'm off to bed. My eyes are shutting of their own accord.

Hopefuly will be back tomorrow. Goodnight!

stripeywoollenhat · 14/07/2009 22:39

have to say that i can more or less handle the night waking except when it's around 3am (times vary here, no predicting anything). 3am waking makes me feel nauseous and am then horrendously tired the next day. weirdly, 2.30 is absolutely fine. relatively speaking, obviously.

c's dad has some hereditary kind of asthma which i am obviously concerned that she'll inherit, which exacerbates my sf worries. i think they are planning to provide vaccinations here preferentially to under-threes in the autumn... see, i 'm just totally and pointlessly getting ahead of myself here... and you know, it's a mild illness, they keep saying. but then there's that six year old. so sorry for her poor family.

on the weaning front, we think c might have actually eaten a piece of rice cake yesterday. she looked totally horrified.

missjackson · 14/07/2009 23:02

Lenni, stripey, pat - N is exactly the same with night wakings - actually Lenni, seems closest to your DS, and I have tried with or without dream feed - seems to make no difference. Once the 'big sleep' is over (7pm - 2 or 3am if I am lucky, sometimes 12.45, ouch!) then he wakes every 3 hours. I just have him in bed with me from first waking and so I am only awake for less than 5 mins while he latches on, but it's still not the same as an unbroken night. We sort of want him in his own room now, but the thought of having to actually get up and feed him makes me feel ill.... am hoping some solid foods will help once we start. Am going to do BLW but may get some baby rice out for a bedtime snack!

ChaquePeche · 14/07/2009 23:03

stephaniefry dd had horrific sleep problems- now she is 3.5 and sleeps like a dream- 12 hours a night, more when she can get it. We did pick-up, put-down from the baby whisperer when she was 8mo... I had to do something... don't think I could have lasted much longer

Well... DS isn;t only intolerant of dairy... his skin was livid today... so it looks like it may be soya too (had swedish glace last night) too too depressing.

On the subject of large babies... put him into a 9-12mo sleepsuit this evening

moose hope ds1 is okay and doens't get anything nasty... it is rife round here though.

moosemama · 14/07/2009 23:18

Is that you namechanging Peach? Or am I being dense? Sorry for poor ds and poor you, no dairy AND no soya, what are you going to eat?

DD has just gone into Mothercare 3-6 month sleepsuits this week. They are huge and baggy on her and look really comical.

Ds1's temp came down a bit with the calpol and he's sleeping peacefully at the moment, so am keeping everything crossed its a storm in a teacup. He has to stay off school for 48hrs anyway now he's had diarrhea (sp?). He's none to happy as tomorrow is a special design and technology day where they are making hand puppets. Have had to promise we'll make some at home instead.

EachPeachPearMum · 14/07/2009 23:24

Sorry! Was my bastille day name
Maybe I'll stop eating- would solve weightloss problem too!
Poor ds, I USED TO LOVE DAYS LIKE THAT AT SCHOOL.
oops

EachPeachPearMum · 14/07/2009 23:26

ummm... do you want some clothes for her? Have stuff I'm sure...

moosemama · 14/07/2009 23:31

Thanks for the offer, but she has a ridiculously large wardrobe for a baby her size already and I just had two large shopping accidents in online sales today as well.

EachPeachPearMum · 14/07/2009 23:33

I love that term

moosemama · 14/07/2009 23:33

By the way, don't stop eating or you'll end up as mad as ds1's teacher!

SparkleandShine · 15/07/2009 07:37

MORNING!!

Well pram wheels faulty so much for buying brand new to make it easier.... I justified the purchase by deciding it would be easier than second hand [sob]

J is doing his best to get onto all fours at the moment it won't be long [double sob]

Dog, hair straightening before the school run! I'm in awe. This is why I always wear my hair in a pony tail, I don't have to 'do it' before school in the morning. Same with make-up, I'm lucky if I manage a bit of concealer most mornings.

Elizabeth was a mare all night as well. She was sleeping, but rolling around all over the place and making a lot of noise etc. I barely got a wink and am totally wiped out today. The dog got me out of bed at 5.00 am trying to break into the bathroom (he likes to sleep on the rug but knows he's not allowed in there) then Elizabeth woke up at 6.00 for a feed. I had to prise ds2 out of bed at 8.00 though and then rush him to get ready for school.

Ds1 slept like a log. Took his temp regularly under his arm while he slept ant it hovered just under 38 all night. Temp still 38 this morning, but it doesn't seem to be going up, which is good. He is however, very snotty this morning. He hates being alone in his room, so is curled up on the sofa. Has tried reading but wore himself out so I am letting him have a bit of tv time - he is watching a programme about child entrepreneurs, he loves those programmes - perhaps he will be the next Richard Branson and take care of his poor ol' mum in her old age .

I am burning tea tree and lavender essential oils in oil burners to try and cleanse the air and have had all the windows open.

missjackson · 15/07/2009 10:51

MM I love oils like that too but it's been ages since I did it - you've reminded me to find my oil burner.

So am a bit gutted to find that 2 of my ittis and their liners have poo stains after some nasty explosions yesterday! I did them on a 40 wash with some other coloured stuff. Should I just use vanish stain remover on them? Some sun would be nice but no chance of that around here I fear....

Anyway, all in all I am loving my ittis after a day wearing them yesterday (N, not me; that would just be weird) and am going to buy a shed load more. Brilliant the way the spare boosters work - will def buy lots more of them.

Must run, the boiler man has arrived.

tinkisback · 15/07/2009 11:40

cant keep up with you ladies

went to tesco and asda for food shop last night

tmi alert - i am red and sore on my dudah going to hopefully get gum clinic appmnt prob due to starting pill etc

treedelivery · 15/07/2009 12:38

Some funny posts here, mademe chukle.

Though not the faulty wheel Sparkle - grrr! Nightmare. Good luck with man you are interviewing. Hope he is handsome competent.

MissJ, put in whatever daylight there is. Even a bit helps. This is why fleece liners rock, they take the brunt of the poo.

EPPM - crappola about soya Tis the way of it, it seems. It's like being scared to eat/feed them! In case some new intolerance shows it's self.
DD had maybe a teaspoon of sweet potato on Monday. I'd say a teaspoon was in her nappy last night. I wonder if their gut digests any of it, or if it gets passed straight through in disgust.

OK, how much are your babies sleeping in the day? From whenever your morning routine kicks off to say, 10 pm. Mine seems to have 2 or 3 20 min naps and insist on being carried about the rest of it. Argh! Not rolling here either, although pushing up onto hands a bit. So cute.
