Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ray, she did shove it in a bit far a couple of times, but I bought some fairly flexible rubber tipped spoons from kiddicare in the sale, so it wasn't anything drastic. According to the book, their gag reflex is a lot further forward than ours (theirs is about halfway along the tongue - ours is at the back of the tongue), so when they gag, they aren't actually choking in the sense that we understand choking. They need to be 'allowed' to do it a few times to get the hang of it and work out how far back they can go without choking.

I was going to get a Sophie the Giraffe for dd, but dh was at the price so have held off. I've heard good things about them though.

Dd is refusing to nap today, despite having bags under her eyes that I could fit a week's worth of shopping in! Stubborn little madam is squealing at full volume to keep herself awake. Oh - now she's started on the 'Dada Dad Dad Daddeeeeeeee'! She is turning into such a Daddy's girl at the moment.

Moose i too have some extra soft tipped spoons... from ASDA infact, funny, as i don't even do my shopping there, i have online sainsburys, i must have been in there for something or other. I've bought most of the little bowls and spoons i have from sainsburys actually- They do Dirt Cheap little coloured pots with lids too- Great for popping stuff in if not going to be at home for meal times.

I know, the Sophie was SO expensive for what it is. ( i think i paid about £12 on amazon, free P&P) But.... having only had it a day, i think its going to be £12 well spent. I guess in response to DH you could say, the earlier you buy it, the more use you will have from it! It seems she enjoys chewing on it, and my friend who recommended it, who's DD has 2 teeth (7 Mo) seems to think the teething effects really helped her DD. We shall see if Esme continues to like it.

Funny, Esme too has been funny about napping today. usaully naps about 1 hr at lunchtime and took about 30 mins. No Dadda -ing here yet! But, Does LOVE her Daddy! Perhaps it was the lack of seeing Dadda last week!

Dog Its raining on and off here today. Bizare weather, lovely sunshine one min, then VERY dark and pouring. Anyone could mistake it for April with these showers. Hope your picnic in the park hasn't been wet.

Anyone who fancies doing footprints. We did them yesterday on canvases, DIRT Cheap from Dunehill (sp) Mill. Medium Size Cancas £2.45!!!! They are going to look LOVELY in her play room! :-)

Anyone BLW - What have you been giving your tots? Esme has had Brocoli, Green beans, Swede (v.messy) Sweet potato, cauliflower, peach, pear, apple, carrot, courgette. Any extra ideas? Have put Parsnips, Mango, and banana on order for next week's internet shop.

Ray we have had 2 sophies both of which S has thrown out of the pram.... Ds1 LOVED his but agian lost the original and was never quite so taken with his replacement. S loves feeding himself too and gets rather grumpy if not allowed a spoon. We are doing much better with finger food and he had a whole slice of flax seed bread this morning, as well as porridge. Also had a brilliant routine with ds1 but out the window with S. Really tried but as I like to be out and about lots just doesn't happen. DS1 became adaptable quite quickly, as long as it was every few day I broke the routine.
Moose your card sounds so kind and thoughtful.
EPPM feel so sorry for you and Kitty. Do yours have a reason? We have accepted here that our day starts at 5 and we are going to take it in turns to get up. Mentally feel better about it now, just try not to look at the clock. Can't complain too much though as its bloody amazing compared to what we did have.

Had an afternoon of jumping in puddles and using DH's ties to pretend we had tails. Even S got one

moosemama · 24/07/2009 16:47

Just cut and pasted this from the list I keep on my laptop. I'm so forgetful, I thought I'd better keep a log of what she has and hasn't tried.

Elizabeth's Weaning Food List
(all fruit and veg organic)

First Week

Broccoli
Carrot
Sweet Potato
Baby rice cakes
Cucumber
Avocado
Banana
Mango
Cantaloupe
Avocado
Apricot
Pear
Porridge
Small piece of organic cheddar

Ordered to try next week:

Mini corn
Mangetout
Fine beans
Spinach
Organic natural yoghurt
Apple
Butternut Squash
Red pepper
Green pepper
Orange Pepper
Organic soft apricots }for making spread
Organic raisins }to go on rice cakes
Watermelon

Also want to- try_:

Aubergine
Courgette
Potato
Cauliflower
Swede
Parsnip

-Additional- -things- -to- -work- -up- -to-:

Hoummous - home made
Guacamole - home made
Cream cheese
Toast
Whole earth baked beans
Wholegrain fusilli pasta
Lentils
Breadsticks

Its definitely having an effect. She's gone from one dirty nappy every ten days, to three since tea time yesterday - two of which were in the last hour! On the upside, they are smaller and considerably less smelly than the bf stored up variety so can't complain really.

From reading this thread I thought a lot of us (me included) could probably all do with a bit of reassurance about our fussy, breast refusing, early waking, sleep denying, nap avoiders.

So, The wonder weeks book reckons that its all perfectly normal for this developmental period and should settle down from around 30 weeks.

The list of possible signs that they are going through a development 'spurt' is as follows:

  • cries more often, is cranky or whiny more often
  • wants you to keem him/her busy
  • wants more physical contact
  • sleeps poorly (May sleep less than you are used to, have difficulty falling asleep or wake up sooner. Some don't want to nap duing the day and others don't want to go to bed at night. There are even those that refuse to do either.)
  • loses appetite (Both breast and bottlefed babies sometimes drink less milk or refuse to drink at all. Other food and drink may be rejected too. Often babies take longer to finish their meals. Somehow they seem to prefer the comfort of sucking or playing with the nipple rather than the contents of the breast or bottle.)
  • doesn't want to be changed
  • is shier with strangers than used to be
  • is quieter, less vocal
  • is less lively
  • sucks thumb or sucks more often than before
  • reaches for a cuddly toy or does so more often than before.

Some babies may only do a few of the things on the list, some may do all, but most will do at least a couple of recognizable behaviours.

Its tough to remember but I find it helps to keep reminding myself that these things are just developmental phases and won't last for ever.

I think perhaps the thread mantra for the time being should be "This too shall pass!"

Moose Thanks for that, Esme is experiencing many of those symptoms. Especially the becoming increasingly shy around strangers, even in our own house. Funny you use the "this too shall pass" - a good friend of mine always quotes that.

Better run. Tea time!

Great title. Moose can you cut and paste your list to the new thread please, would be useful to all of us BLW people.

I would need about 2 pages of thread to list what zach has eaten .

Will respond to all after dinner.
