If they are not absorbent enough then you may need to go up a size, alternatively, change brand, the fit may be better hth

LittleSarah · 21/07/2009 14:09

Right, going to the soft play, yes, I can manage two out of the house!

Naat - That nappy offer sounds great! We got 15 tots bots plus 4 covers and liners for about £120! I think we shall be getting 5 more as although 15 isn't a bad amount they take a day or two to dry (inside) so that can mean a LOAD of washing.

Ermin - Great nappy bucket tip, both the oils and the net bag, but how do you put essential oils into bucket? Just drip them in the bottom? Sorry if I sound a numpty!

Not sure what to advise MrsMcJnr and choccie, sorry! I think would probably risk it choccie though, I don't think the risk is that high. Perhaps MrsMJnr this baby is just a bit of night pee-er? Or because she is pooing less often (if she still is)?

I had a hideous pooing moment this morning. Let Alex have a kickabout without nappy and of course he poos, I start cleaning, more poo, more cleaning, more poo, more cleaning.... urgh! So much. I mean I am used to that but it was so much I was almost retching! Still at least he did it before we went out.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/07/2009 14:55

Choci- why not compromise and drive rather than fly (presumeing this is an englnd ireland flight)

Having nightmare with sleep atm madame will only sleep during the daytime ON me (in a sling) which means I get nothing done she's also waking loads more overnight atm.

so loving and leaving xx

MrsMcJnr · 21/07/2009 15:22

Naat ? sorry to sound ungrateful about the heat sometimes it gets a bit much! Your neighbours sound delightful how are you managing to get free time? Tell me your secret sorry about your bad night, mine was similar it took me from 11pm ? 1pm to feed her and get her down and then she was awake again at 2.30 Hope your translator friend is bearing up, it must be so hard. We are going to try to get a date in October to baptize Aaliyah as we hope most of the godparents and family members can make it over then.

Ermintrude ? I have never been able to ?dream feed? my babies to date, they just refuse the boobie and go back to sleep sounds like it worked perfectly for you most of the Mamaway products are t-shirts but their silky top might work for you for a wedding? www.mamaway.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_13&products_id=118 enjoy DD?s leavers celebrations!

Choccie ? you are incredible dealing with 3 DCs the way you do especially as you do a lot of it single handedly! Elina sounds like she is coming on really well sorry to hear about your niece, I hope she makes a speedy recovery. It is all very scary and confusing isn?t it? I am worried about the influx of British holiday makers here and how that will affect us, there are no protocols to deal with swine flu in place here and it does make me anxious.

Daisy ? poor you, sounds like you are having a hard time hope both DCs are much much better now and you make it to the concert.

Littlesarah ? LOL at the pooing incident, I?ve been there!

Bigcar ? thanks for the tips hon.

Doris ? poor you, must be boiling!

Tee2072 · 21/07/2009 16:09

Hi all

Horrid day and night here. Adam seems to have a bit of a cold and therefore wants to only sleep on me or DH. It was so bad last night, with him up at 1, 2, 3 and 4 I finally woke up DH at 4:30 and said 'Take him!!' We've been trading him off all day. He just, for the first time today, fell asleep in his Amby. [total exhaustion emoticon]

choccie you have to use your mummy instincts on this one, but personally? I think its all scaremongering and am not letting the threat of SF affect my day to day life in any way.

sarah I swear, one nappy change equals 3 or 4 nappies around here as Adam poos and poos and poos! Never mind the pee!!!

I hope everyone has a good night! Especially me.

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 21/07/2009 16:56

LittleSarah when I say a drop of oil, that's really all I mean: if you get a bottle with a dispenser in the top - basically a plastic stopper with a hole in it - you just shake it briefly over the bucket before putting nappies in and then do it again when you put the last of each day in. You can't even see what you put in - my 100ml bottle still looks full - because you only need such a teeny amount. And whenever I take the lid off the bucket, it smells lovely which, considering the contents, is nothing short of miraculous!

chocciedooby · 21/07/2009 17:34

Called the dr today about if I should travel to UK or not and he said that he didn't think there was any reson why I shouldn't. He said if he had a baby he would travel. Also said that there has been a lot of over reaction so far and scaremongering....Also that flu is always around and these cases are mostly mild.
The flight is only 40 minutes. I feel a bit better about it all now.

Thanks for your comments on this. Been listening to the news about the possible closure of schools in the UK and the newspapers here are covered with stories about hundreds of people expected to die etc etc. It's all very confusing.

Mrsmc - Had all 3 at home for all of the summer holidays so far and its worked quite well. I am tired and ds1 has been asking to go back to school but we are also having lots of fun on trips out etc. Also going to book a weeks holiday in Mayo for August so looking forward to that
Hope thoese noisy people in nearby apartment have quietened down for you!

Tee - sorry to hear Adam has a cold.Bless him.

Doris - I would take the ferry but its a four hour drive at the other end and thats a long time with an infant. I also reckon that the risk of spreading sf on a ferry would not be too far behind that of a plane?!

Tee2072 · 21/07/2009 19:26

Hey erm? This site was just posted on Facebook: Frugi by a mutual friend of ours...

OP posts:
silkcushion · 21/07/2009 22:47

Quick post from me.

Choccie - was with a fried today who is a Gp. She has a 9 week old baby and thinks the sf thing is over hyped.

Both girls with a filthy cold and streaming noses. Poor little things. no high temperatures yet though. I've had a horrendous sore throat for days now which is getting worse.

Sorry to hear so many fo you are havign crappy nights with these littlies.

Sending everyone and their babies sleepy vibes

ermintrude13 · 22/07/2009 08:49

Morning all

Tee thanks, I'll check that site out. I bet I can guess which internet shopping queen suggested it . Hope Adam has a chilled day and that you got some sleep last night (Arthur did the 11-3.30 then 4.00 - 7.30 sleep last night so I'm really hoping it's a pattern, but not holding my breath).

choccie your doc sounds sensible. I've been in a quandary about taking A to lots of events run by my DD's school to say farewell to Year 6 pupils - school show, leavers' assembly, disco last night - and ended up thinking it was best to carry on as normal rather than quarantine myself and baby and let DD down. Anyone with a cough or sneeze avoided A anyway, out of sheer decency. I'm sure you'll be fine. Hope your niece feels better soon.

MrsMc thanks for Mamaway info. I think I'd still prefer a dress or matching separates for the wedding but there are some nice tops there I'm thinking about. So many of my normal sized ones are close fitting which makes it difficult to lift up without half my jelly belly popping out. I think I must have worn much baggier tops when I had DD and DS1.

btw, my favourite disposables were always Huggies - never got on with Pampers. For night time (to avoid having to change babe) I'm using Sainsbury's Eco or Nature Baby, neither of which has leaked at all even though they're sometimes full of wee in the morning! Experiment with a few or, as bigcar suggests, go up a size.

Must get in a shower while baby is asleep. First day of the summer hols so DC are around which, because of their ages, is going to make things easier. I hope .

Naat · 22/07/2009 09:32

Morning Juners!

Erm, LOL, hope your DC are a help around the house In my limited experience with disposables, Huggies have not been the best, we bought a pack of 100 an had to throw away about 20 and then managed to save some 20 more after they came faulty so only 60% of the pack was OK. They are also thicker but I had some leakeage issues so all in all not the best experience. Pampers have been brilliant so we're sticking with those for outings and night time when we start with the reusable ones. I can see everyone has had a different experience though . Mrsmc has some leakage probs with Pampers and you never got on well with them either so I guess it really depends LOL

Tee, hope you got a better night's sleep yesterday. I saw on FB you had some insomnia, hope it was not all night! Nice website! I loved your picture on FB!

Silk, hope the LO's cold clears soon.

Choccie, yes, that's a short flight and besides airlines are not allowing people with flu to fly anyway so you'll be fine with the baby. I still think everything is too confusing, in Argentina there's proper scaremongering, people have been made really paranoid but then again it all exploded RIGHT after the elections, up to then EVERYTHING was OK so it smells reaaaally fishy.

Mrsmc, oh sweetie I completely understand, heat at night more than a few nights in a row can turn into a real nightmare. I guess I'm saying I have more free time as Mila is taking longer naps during the day (on the moses, yay!) and honey, besides, I only have her, you have 2 so it's a bit easier here

Doris, so sorry LO is not sleeping much at night Hope it gets better soon ((hug))

LittleS, yes, we're convinced it's a great offer So we'll go for that one. The lady is on hols until next Wed so we'll buy them after that. Ohhh those poo incidents... we have them here as well The joys!!

Daisy, hope DD is feeling better. HOw was the concert? Sorry yesterday was a hard day ((hug))

Right, we have a date for Mila's baptism, it's 6th Sept and my dad will be here so we're thrilled!

We saw my translator friend last night. We went over to their house and their baby is gorgeous! She's much lighter than Mila! Mila looked like a piggie They're handling all her care needs really well and they are absolutely besotted with her They have a surgery date, it's beginning of August but it's not on her heart but her intestines as right now she cannot move her bowels by herself. We were really happy to see them.

Better night last night, up at 3.30, nappy change, feed and back to bed until 6.50!! happy mummy!

Right, I really need a shower and bfast so I'll get Mila in her bouncy chair and into the bathroom with me

Have a lovely day Juners! ((waves to all))

llynnnn · 22/07/2009 11:30

hi all

dont have time for a long post right now but will be back later. have been reading all your posts and good to hear everyone is doing ok

be back later!

June2009 · 22/07/2009 21:30

heya!

Got a couple of questions for you.
which I'll ask ask as soon as I remember them.

We use pampers here, tried huggies once and Calypso got a massive red rash. Could totally be due to something else and now we have a pack open so I might try it again sometime.

Tee I got insomnia too, it SUCKS. Woke up at 2am and started sterilising the bottles, tidying up, washing up, reading, checking my emails... and stayed awake until baby woke up at 5:30 for the next feed. If only I had slept through as well I would have had a nice 5 and a half hours sleep. (She usually feeds every 4 hours and feeds for an hour.)

mmm, right so one of the questions was that Calypso sometimes wkaes up screaming like someone's chasing her or something, like a bad dream. Do they dream already? Or is this colic as well??
Cannot remember the other question, nevermind, it'll probably come back to me when I'm trying to get some sleep tonight ;)

Calypso has had a bath in the sink with a foamy pad thingy at the bottom (instead of her pretty baby bath with fishy) and she loved it (hated the other one). That is really cool :D

She has also pretty much stopped screaming on the changing table since we change her either mid-feed (thanks to whoever suggested this here!) or after feeding.
I get LOTS of smiles in the morning after the 8 o'clock feed, on the changing table without a nappy on. She babbles lots and smiles lots at that time, it's really great, the best part of my day :D:D:D

so we have relatives staying over this weekend (at last! though still no sign of my dad coming over...) Excellent, I can't wait.

Take care everyone!

PS: Do we know what wombat called her little one in the end?

June2009 · 23/07/2009 08:45

Right, second question was about poo (what a way to start the day ;).
When your baby is doing a poo, do they strain and go red in the face and make funny little noises?
I would expect a little bit of straining but yesterday C. got proper red in the face, really pushing and cried a little even and I'm really not sure it should be that painful.

bigcar · 23/07/2009 10:11

morning all

MrsMcJnr, sorry if my post seemed a little short the other day, I was just dashing out My car passed it's MOT (yay!) and I wanted it back before I had to do the school run! I guess my point was that different brands of nappies suit different shaped babies Edward is in the largest of pampers new babies size, he's such a lump! It helped that pampers were on special in Asda the other week! Sorry to hear about the horrible neighbours, are they holiday makers that will be gone in a couple of weeks or a bit more permanent?

littlesarah, sorry but your post made me laugh, in a been there kind of way Edward managed the double the other day, pooey nappy leaked all over dh then weed all over me as I was carrying him to the bath! Dd2 and ds1 found it all rather funny, sypathetic bunch Didn't you have your graduation, how did it go?

doris and tee, hope you both managed a bit more sleep

ermin, hope the yr6 leavers activities went well My lot broke up yesterday, the amount of tears from the yr6s were unbelievable, a lot of the boys were crying too! It was so lovely this morning not having to dash out, so much more relaxed I think that's the nice thing about larger age gaps, they can help out a little and fight amongst amuse themselves.

naat, great news on the baptism! Sorry to hear about your friends lo, hope the surgery goes well.

lynn, hello

june, enjoy your weekend, sounds lovely Don't know about the dreaming, will be interesting to hear others views I don't think it should really be that painful hopefully it will just be a one off. They used to advise a spoonful of fresh orange for constipation in babies but I'm really not sure what the current advice is. Isn't the smiling lovely it's got to be one of the best bits at the moment hasn't it! My mission at the moment is to catch a smile with the camera

It was my birthday yesterday (21 again, of course!) Edward gave me a lovely pressie, he slept from 8.30 last night until just after 6 this morning, I was asleep by 9 (I'm such a lightwieght!) it was heavenly My second best pressie was a huge box of malteasers, I am a happy mummy

Saw the physio again yesterday and it looks like things are improving slightly which is great so just have to continue with the same exercises. It's really made me realise how little time I get to myself these days, not that I'm complaining but I do need 20 minutes free to get the exercises done at least!

Also saw the diabetic midwife for a follow up on tuesday, my blood sugar all looks back to normal now We had a quick chat about Edwards birth which was useful. She asked if we were planning on having more children which threw me a bit as I hadn't thought about it at all, although 5 seems plenty at the moment! I said no and she seemed to think that was probably best as she thought the consultant might well advise against it, given the fact that I've had 5 babies and my uterus obviously isn't as strong now with the scar rupture. I could have waited (could have been ages) to see the consultant but I'd already been there over an hour and a half, Edward needed feeding and dd3 had the hump big time so we left it that I could get an appointment with the consultant at a later date if I wanted. The whole thing has left me feeling a little, well I don't know really more babies hadn't even crossed my mind, but now I'm feeling a little down about it, even though the thought of another pregnancy really doesn't appeal. Aaargh, it just doeasn't make any sense to me at the moment, can't get my head round it all Sorry for the ramble!

hope all those with snuffles and sneezes are feeling better Waves to all

ermintrude13 · 23/07/2009 10:25

Aww bigcar, they do like to throw the big questions at you, don't they? And saying I Will Never Have Another Baby is a big deal, even if you already have 5. Just don't worry about it for now (but do use contraception if the need arises ).

Yr 6 stuff was really lovely in the end, and DD was a bit tearful but not too bad. Now she has a mobile phone she's in heaven .

Glad Edward is thriving - Arthur is a big lump too, the cotton nappies that are supposed to do until 5/6 months are barely big enough already, and he won't be in his 0-3 months close for much longer . He's a bit spotty today - I hate it when the outside world finally gets to their lovely skin, happened to all of mine for a week or so before they go back to smooth and silky .

June I can't remember whether babies have REM sleep which is when dreaming usually happens - possible, though. I think if they wake suddenly it can confuse and shock them and the natural response is a yell.

Re: poos - A really makes a big fuss for his morning poo - sucking frantically at the breast, whinging, stopping to yell in annoyance and going v red in the face. Then when he finally lets rip his eyes roll back in his head and DH says he looks like Tubbs from League of Gentleman when she's suckling that pig - he goes into an absolute ecstasy of relief So I think a bit of yelling and huffing and puffing is normal .

Naat how lovely that you got to see your friends new LO. Hope the bowel op goes well, poor little lamb.

On a slightly frivilous note, it reminded me of one of my DH's friends whose elderly cat couldn't move its own bowels and he used to leave events early saying he had to 'go and express the cat'.

chocciedooby · 23/07/2009 10:31

June - E pushes and squeezes and goes red sometimes too. Nothing to worry about.

She also has those REM sleeps that seem like nightmares. She can be so calm and fast asleep and then suddenly she wails and her bottom lip drops etc and she seems so upset and yet is still asleep. I just hold her hand and that seems to sooth her.

Naat · 23/07/2009 11:09

Morning juners!

June, yes to both Mila laugh, pouts and lets out little cries when sleeping. And babies do have REM sleep I think, as Mila definitely moves her eyes at some stage after falling asleep, it's both funny and scary Mrsmc also mentioned babies REM sleep. She also makes sounds, concentrates and gets a bit red sometimes when going for number 2 She makes the funniest shape with her mouth whenever she poos, I have a pic on FB, I'll try and upload it here, we cannot help but laugh whenever she makes it Those smiles are the sweetest things, aren't they?

Ermin, I'm feeding Mila right now and she started bouncing back and forth from the boob as soon as I read the line about your friend's cat I started laughing, poor baby! LOL at Arthur's poo face Mila is wearing 3-6mth sleepsuits

Bigcar, glad the physio is going well, I imagine it's hard to find free time with the DC at home Glad your blood sugar is back to normal and that Edward is thriving!

We took Mila to the baby clinic yeterday and she's 4.150kg (9lb 2oz) and measures 57cm No wonder my arms hurt I'm a bit worried her BCG shot appt doesn't seem to arrive even after the birth centre sent 2 letters to them and my HV a third one Yesterday the HV at the baby clinic said she'd chase them today, let's see what happens.

Some sunshine over here but as of noon they said it'll rain Will take advantage of the fact that Mila has fallen asleep to do some laundry

(((waves to all)))

MrsMcJnr · 23/07/2009 12:11

Hey ladies Aaliyah celebrated her 6 week mark by sleeping 12.30-7 last night how come I don't feel particularly refreshed?? had a lousy night on Tuesday night, up loads with Aaliyah and then was sick and had a horrible headache

bunnymother · 23/07/2009 15:56

Hello ladies!

You may remember me as someone who used to "talk" to you before I had a baby. That was in the good old days when I had a hand free for a few hours a day...

I broke our lap top and so rendered myself virtually cut off from the world, apart from snatches of minutes at the PC in the study. Am buying an iPhone ASAP!

How are you all? Just read this page and nodding w understanding at the questions/comments. This will be a bit me me me until I can read back over the old posts...

Delie is a real snuggler so she is on me/in my arms or in the pram most of the day. Moby sling helps (although its 30km of fabric and literally got myself in a bind the other day), as does the Baby Bjorn. I also remind myself that this time will pass and I will miss the newborn snuggles.

Have also had pooey disasters and fear my clothes will never be the same again. Amazing how blase you are when its your baby! Anyone else and you would shriek.

Breastfeeding is STILL a big challenge - tongue tie snip worked well, but still treating thrush and now Delie gone off the breast a bit. Trying to get her to fall back in love w it, and get the milk supply back up. All v disheartending and am much more emotionally conflicted about it than I will admit in RL.

Am VERY of those of you w darlings that take long naps, or even sleep through the night. That is the Holy Grail!

We are all about the Boots and Pampers nappies, but that's because they have the best specials [stingy mummy emoticon]. A friend gave me some Huggies, so will see how they go. If they prevent those hideous leaks, then I will be a convert!

Off to read up on what you have all be up to! Have missed you ladies, then was feeling too far behind to post again but Naat sweetly suggested via FB that I just come and post anyway - you lovely girl!

bunnymother · 23/07/2009 16:12

Hmm, reading these posts seems like Delie may have wind problems, too! I wasn't quite sure what the devil was going on, but some of these symptoms sound v familiar! She even woke herself up w a fart the other night. Am so childish that they make me chuckle. The other day in Selfridges baby change room she burped like a teenage boy and I looked at the next lady as I was laughing and she was stony faced.

bunnymother · 23/07/2009 16:32

Pre-pregnancy figures? Well, I have 7 KILOS to go (ie am tubby and nowhere near where I should be!). Am still wearing maternity jeans and tops (big bazooms and fat jelly belly). Am starting to take longer walks, but am facing a big challenge. I have lost 13kgs since Delie was born, though, so at least some weight has come off. Not exactly www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1201543/Claudine-Keane-shows-fabulous-bikini-body--just-months -giving-birth.html Claudine Keane though...

Sex? Am not interested yet, which is weird for me. Hopefully my mojo will return soon. Poor DH is virtually gagging for it. Although believe me I am hardly foxy these days!

Those of you juggling multiple babies, I bow down in awe - have NO idea how you do it.

Have looked at a few profile photos - we are blessed to have such spectacular babies. What a gorgeous bunch we have made!

Better run and do some housework - all a bit shambolic! ((waves))

bigcar · 23/07/2009 16:33

ermin, too true! Contraception is sorted, believe me back on the mini pill already! Don't think I'd manage any little "surprises" right now. Edward has also outgrown some of his clothes and has the spots too, just on his face for now. Dd2 can't do anything without her phone, the only thing is, she keeps forgetting where she has left it (at home that is) so we have to keep ringing the damn thing and then going on a hunt, especially if dd3 has got hold of it! Oh the hours of fun LOVE the cat story

naat, pleased to hear Mila is doing well, also glad you put the weight in "old money", I don't really get all this kg stuff [old fart emoticon]

bunny, hello don't worry, there are times when we all struggle to find the time to come on here! Glad the tongue tie snip worked, ds1 was tongue tied slightly and it really affected his speech (although not feeding), he had to have a general anaesthetic to have it snipped when he was 3, I so wish we'd been offered it when he was a newborn! Hope you get the bf back on track We usually get the tesco purple packs of nappies for dd3, stock right up when they are on special too, keep meaning to try them for Edward but have been mainly shopping in Asda recently and I'm not so keen on their own brand.

My new tumble drier just turned up, woohoo my old one went up in a puff of smoke a few weeks back and what with all our lovely summery weather the washing has really piled up, just don't have the room indoors for loads of airers! Dh is working late today but he's going to have to wire it in tonight or I won't be happy

waves to all
