fi- was it you who mentioned lilypadz the other day? They seem like a really good idea so I won some on ebay yesterday. I figured it made sense based on the amount of money i spend on breast pads which aren't even working (even the tommee tippee ones can't contain my leakage at night).

Although i ended up spending more money because the seller had loads of BNWT baby boys clothes really cheap so I ended up buying some clothes for S too!

Tummum · 20/07/2009 11:30

Pula hope things go OK over the next couple of days. With DH away all week the thing I find hardest is being lonely at night (hence lots of MN activity) and knowing there is only me here to deal with stuff.

I am trying not to panic but had a text from a friend who was at the same wedding as us who has come down with swine flu. She cuddled and kissed G so it's probably inevitable that he will get it over the next couple of days. I am glad I bought 2 huge bottles of calpol now! Keeping my fingers crossed that his immune system will fight it off with all of the good stuff from breast milk.

pulapula · 20/07/2009 11:35

Tummum- yes, this will be the first night on my own since having S so not looking forward to it, especially since it seems DD and DS1 are coming down with my cold so might have a disturbed night.

Re. swine flu, in a funny way i keep just hoping we get it and get over it, as its the fear of it which is worrying me. Hope G is OK and that if he does get it, he feels better soon.

FiKelly · 20/07/2009 11:44

Was just settling down to do a great name check post of everything i've been catching up on while ds has been watching telly after us all getting back from his last jump and jiggle class ever (starts preschool mon-fri am's next sept)... only now i've got my cuppa and read everything grace has just woken up! Typical!!!

pula i did mention the lilypadz and i'm still loving them. I know someone else has them too but just can't remember now who it was... jennster?dandy?daisy? Anyway i hope they are as great for you as i'm finding them and going to bed at night without a bra or built in support tops is fantastic. I also love the fact you can't see them through my light coloured tops etc.

also concerned about the swineflu everytime i feel a bit better about it i read/see the news and it makes me panicky again... so a big phew blotted and fingers crossed tummum.

ahh have to go g is now demanding more boob and got to get ds fed and us out for pre school in an hour...

Febes · 20/07/2009 12:38

Hi all, busy on here this morning after a quiet weekend.

I think DD is poorly as she has had 4 poos yesterday and they are smelly and gross, she is really difficult and also woke in the night which is really unusual for her. It took me over 2 hours to get both DCs to sleep last night. DH was working and only got home at 3am and then was up again at 7am for another 12 hour shift. I keep thinking I must cut back my wine consumption but after hours of going up and down the stairs, shushing and feeding I am gasping for a glass again .

Dandy Poor you with the PMT. I hate being at the mercy of my hormones.

Swineflu My best friend who is also a teacher had 6 in one class off on Friday with it and they sent another 6 home by lunch time. And that was just that one class. Pula I feel like you though its the waiting and fear that is the worst. I'd almost rather got it and then it will be over (hopefully). I just hope I don't get it too bad as I have noone to help and DH is working lots. Or if he gets it bad then we will have no income as he doesn't get sick pay.

daizydoo · 20/07/2009 12:43

Morning!

Thanks for all you advice and support last week. I feel abit more positive and Jennster thanks for the tips I'm trying to put them into practice. Its also so much easier when dh is here at the weekend! I think his final molars might be coming through. I'd love to leave them both with dh for the day, but he won't cope at the moment and I'll have to clear up the carnage when I return! He can't even get up out of a seat if he's holding ds2 Still I'll get my own back on him when I go back to work as I'll be working mornings every other weekend ;)

Tummum hope your ds is okay. At mum & toddlers last week apparently one mum had swine flu, so what I assumed was the grandmother decided to bring her children

Will post more later ds2 is wriggling on my knee!

daizydoo · 20/07/2009 12:54

Oh - that'll be ds1's molars coming through not dh's!!

Dandy congrats on the school appeal, I'm not surprised you feel drained. Hope you pick up soon.

Euromum - I take my hat off to you. We did Greenbelt with ds1 aged 5 months a couple of years ago and I didn't particularly enjoy the experience. We now live just down the road, so I think we'll just pop in for 1 day. That's if my friend is up to meeting ds2. She was due the same time as me and miscarried early on and the week ds2 was due and is taking it all very hard.

Llare there's alot more crap in my car, I'd be too to list it all - tidying it on my list of things to do, I really need to do it soon.

Pula good luck with being on your own with the dc. I only have 2 and I can get them to sleep on my own

Right off to finish cleaning the kitchen...

Tummum · 20/07/2009 13:21

Forgot to say earlier thanks v much for the best wishes for anniversary.

Well, DDs are out on a picnic, DS is asleep and I have back ache, headache and sore throat. Am hoping I am being psychsomatic but I do agree with you Pula that I would rather get the blinkin thing over and done with so I can stop worrying and get on with it. Off to take some tablets... oh I am such a worry guts !!

ladyhelen2 · 20/07/2009 13:33

Hello all.
Have just managed to catch up. Its taken me over an hour to get through the last few days of this thread!!

dandy am delighted you won your appeal. I bow down to your determination.

looby glad M did her poo. She must have felt so much relief after that! Don't beat yourself up if you have to give her a bit of formula. I can see the pain in your posts when you talk about it. If the odd bottle helps the both of you, then its nothing to worry about and if it means that you'll continue with the BF longer, then its no bad thing at all.

Am so jealous of all you BFeeders! We went to soft play on Fri with another mum who was BFing her 6 week old. It just looked so easy for her. I wish it had worked for us. I'm not getting down about it as I know I gave it my best shot and Rufus is certainly thriving.

On that subject, has anyone else bottle feeding noticed a loss of appetite at the 10 week stage. R wasn't well this time last week (snuffly nose and a temp for 24 hours) and his appetite decreased but it hasn't recovered. He was taking 5-6oz but now its 3 -4oz and he can go 4 hours between feeds during the day too. He has recovered from his bout if poorliness but not his appetite. However he has just woken and is wailiing so will report back in later....

runningmonkey · 20/07/2009 15:12

Hi All,
Not been on for a couple of days, had some friends to stay for the weekend and a big barbecue at another friend's yesterday. Was really nice to do some 'normal' things although I am shattered today as I think it coincided with A's big 6 week growth spurt as she was hungry pretty much all weekend. The bonus is that she is sleeping quite well for her - at least 2 hour chunks at night now and then is getting at least one big sleep in the day too. Now all I need to do is crack getting her to sleep somewhere that isn't on me or DH!!

Am going to try some namechecks, hope I don't offend anyone if I miss you, I have tried to catch up honest!

Dandy am not surprised you feel shattered, you have had a massive amount to deal with not to mention caring for a newborn and recovering from the birth yourself. Hope you can get a little R&R for yourself now and enjoy the summer.

lilypadz am I the only one who doesn't have leaky nips? Its making me concerned about my supply!

Happy anniversary to REg and Tum sorry its a bit late. My first anniversary is on 2nd August, we are spending it at PIL's woo hoo! Any ideas for a good paper themed pressie I can get DH am stuck for ideas - only one so far is a print of some kind but not found anything I like.

of those of you going to festivals. I think we might attempt some next year if the camping trip in a few weeks goes well. We've got our first big trip this weekend to my Mum's in Wales which should be interesting, not sure how A is going to cope with a different house, let alone a 3.5hr car journey.

No advice on the car front, we have a Beetle, its way to small (can only just get buggy wheels in boot but I love it. We'll prob have to sell it to get something bigger but as we have a VW Campervan for holidays we do have a backup if we need to transport lots of stuff, although it only does a top speed of 55mph so whereever we go has to be reached slowly

Blotted glad you don't have swine flu in your house, boo about the hol tho. Will you be able to go later in the holidays? Ooh, while I remember, I was talking (well raving ) to my friend who came to stay this weekend about your blog as she is a crafty type (she's on mn apparently for the craft bits). When I mentioned your baking section and the jaffa cake cake she said it sounded familiar and when she got home checked her links and has been reading you too!! Small world hey!

febes love the pic of your DH with two in the sling, cool!

Right, mahoosive post, big hi to everyone else as I said, sorry if I missed you, not intentional honest.
xx

Belgianchocolates · 20/07/2009 15:24

runninm I don't have leaky boobs either. You're not alone Hope you get A's sleeping sorted soon. Small steps at the time I suppose.

LadyH Can't help on the bottle feeding question, but what I do know is that C is feeding less often than she used too, despite going through the night (more or less).

tummum hope you're feeling better soon. As you probably know my DH works away from home too. I'm probably one of the only people in the world who actually enjoys lonely evenings. I suppose it's a bit my personality, I like to be left alone with a good book or MN, but when DH is here I have to talk. I'm not good at being sociable in the mornings or evenings.

pulapula · 20/07/2009 15:44

runningmonkey- it's good that A is making progress on the sleeping front. I must say that S has been much easier to put down in the last week (aged 9 weeks) so things do change as they get older. He is now napping in his cot in the day and sleeping most of the night in it too rather than co-sleeping. So my 4 slings haven't been used at all in the last three days. He still feeds every 4 hours at night but its not too bad.

LoobyLou36 · 20/07/2009 15:54

runningmonkey v. about your beetle and campervan

it was our first anniversary last year - I bought DH a massive pink floyd poster called back catalogue (he's a big fan) which now hangs in the spare room

M v.snotty and unsettled today (currently asleep on me)

Belgianchocolates · 20/07/2009 16:01

spangle I had a nose at your pics. H has really come on. We've got a bumbo seat waiting in the loft to be used. I had it with dd1 and she loved it. It was also great for weaning because any food she got on it could just be wiped off!

grumpy S has changed a lot too and she's gorgeous, just like your other 2. Love the spotty chair S is sitting in too.

LoobyLou36 · 20/07/2009 16:31

who on here can crochet? can you recommend any websites?

I want to make a blanket so need basic instruction on squares - bear in mind I can't knit and am not very crafty

FiKelly · 20/07/2009 17:14

looby I'm a crocheter.. I'm on my phone atm but will post a good link from laptop tonight. i have a pattern for a lovely floral blanket square on my blog.. it looks lovely in one colour too. you can download it as a pdf fionakelly.wordpress.com/free-patterns/

ladyhelen2 · 20/07/2009 17:32

runningmonkey hello to a fellow Beetler. I too have one and cannot bring myself to part with it! Apparantly the only buggy that will fit in it is the Bugaboo and I have an unhealthy loathing of Bugaboos (excpet the Bees strangly). So my poor car stands unused at the moment. But its a W reg so no point selling it and I'll need it again when I go back to work.

Am also of the festival goers. Was thinking about Camp Bestival (?) that is kid friendly - Mr Tumble is making an appearance its that kid friendly - but just couldn't face it in the end. The organisation of getting us, a 4 year old, a baby aswell as all the camping guff that you have to take just put me off. We used to do V every year but haven't been since DS1 arrived. Would love to do it again with the kids. When I can be arsed.

runningmonkey · 20/07/2009 17:49

Loobs thanks for the idea, just had a quick look at a few posters online and found a lovely print of three birds by an artist called Braque. Think it sums up our new little family nicely Just hope my very particular designer-by-trade DH likes it!

ladyh I hate bugaboos too... no idea why

Thanks for the encouragement pula and Belgian

Had a nice chilled day today, hope everone else is ok x x

Momino · 20/07/2009 19:00

Hi all.
Febes, H has had very smelly poos as well and I wondered if that were a sign of ill tummy. hope your DD is better. oh, and please could you pass me the wine? I need a large swig .

Belgian, thank goodness your DS didn't break his ankle, whew.

Runningmonkey, i have leaky nips AND i'm always concerned about my supply . am at those who don't have the problem. must, must get lilypadz Fi.

ladyhelen, don't you DARe get down about BF, we do what is/feels best. BF isn't easy even if it looks it for some but the important thing is that our LO's are fed no matter BF or bottle. i'm so close to moving to bottle because i'm struggling a little at the moment. H seems to be crying a lot on the boob when she should be starving. i check her tummy, nappy, etc and all well so not sure what the problem is. i'm a bit paranoid that I don't have enough milk.

tummum, hope you're feeling better.
Pula, glad S is settling. How's the swing? i'm sat here rocking H on the bouncy chair with my foot. if i stop, she cries. I really need to get a swing that's battery operated!

daizy, at your 'DH's molars, hehe.

to all others, I hope you're well.

well, cbeebies bedtime story over. time to go up for bath and bedtime. i feel really stressed today as all 3 have been very noisy, whingy and I don't feel like I've been able to handle it gently. i screamed at dd1 today but feel if i didn't, my anger/frustration would come out another way (eg smacking?). I really need to apply the hypnotherapy principles... '3, 2, 1 relax....'

OP posts:
FiKelly · 20/07/2009 19:23

looby this site is great for free knitting and crochet patterns drops design just enter blanket into the search by word..

pulapula · 20/07/2009 19:26

Momino- the swing is going OK but he has to be in the mood for it, and doesn't always like the motion so sometimes i just sit him in it . He still favours his vibrating chair, but the swing is more popular than the playmat (can't get him to lie on the mat for more than a minute without complaining!)

ladyhelen2 · 20/07/2009 20:02

momimo I def still have my moments on the BF but am generally fine now about FF. We still manage to BF a bit.I have to top him up afterwards but at least we are still going. Its only twice a day, if we're lucky.I think anyone who makes it past 6 weeks deserves a medal so you also must not get down about it either. My personal view, as I said to Looby, is that if you have to give a bottle every now and again, thats cool. Maybe they all go through

pula we had a swing with DS1. Bloody enormous contraption it was too but he did like it and it def soothed him when he was agitated. However, I was glad when he outgrew it and I sold it on ebay.

essenceofSES · 20/07/2009 20:37

Had a phonecall from hospital this morning. GP has referred O after his 8wk check due to his weight!
She didn't tell me she was going to do that. She said she wanted to keep an eye on it and took a copy of his chart.
At that point, he hadn't been weighed for 12 days and she didn't weigh him there and then so I didn't think she could have been that concerned.
He was weighed last Thurs and in 15 days went from 8lb 15oz (just above 2nd centile) to 9lb 15oz (just below 9th centile).
On the flip side, when he was born he was on 75th centile. Went down to 2nd and has been gaining since his Tongue was sorted. Should he have been gaining quicker to get back nearer to 75th centile?

Hospital suggested phoning GP to talk it through so I did but she's on holiday. I phoned DH and he understood my frustration but said it wouldn't do any harm to go as they've got an appointment available tomorrow.

I just feel really angry but at the same time don't want to seem to be neglecting DS. What would you do?

Blottedcopybook · 20/07/2009 20:43

running How bizarre (but lovely!) Is your friend a blogger?

Bit of a name check amnesty from me, I'm blooming knackered. Went to see Hairy Snotter with hubby, DS1 and Greer and it was alright. G was excellent, so well behaved that I got to sit right through it

I'm away to bed for an early night, hubby has a migraine and is stomping around like a bear with a sore head (no pun intended) and it's making me grumpy too.

pulapula · 20/07/2009 20:52

Ses- how frustrating and annoying. I would be annoyed too, especially since he's gained a pound in the last 2 weeks. I guess if its easy for you to get to the hospital then i would probably go, just to feel reassured that since his tongue snip he has gained at a fast rate. But otherwise, I'd cancel and say that your GP wasn't aware of his recent weight gains.
