Afternoon everyone.
DH is having a go at putting H down for a nap. Fingers crossed I don't have to go down and intervene.

Blotted gosh that must have been worrying re the swine flu. I know it's not supposed to be any worse than normal flu (which is bad enough IMO) but it must've been scary with the doc turning up in all the gear. Sorry you have had to postpone your holiday.

Snotty noses we have been squirting saline drops up H's nose which seems to have helped a bit.

Thanks for the views on BLW. I'll have a look for Aitch's site. The 'too lazy to make purees' description definitely applies to me so it's an attractive option I know there is ages yet but I'd like to give it some thought.

essenceofSES · 19/07/2009 18:28

Hi! Laptop still playing up so on phone.

Irish SIL sent me a text couple of days ago to say eldest niece (nearly 18yo) will be over in England and wants to come and stay with us for a few days! She's arriving tomorrow afternoon!! Staying til Thurs or Fri.
Also my dad's birthday so going out for lunch tomorrow with him and mum.

Niece's visit has finally forced DH to sort out sleeping arrangements. He was still in spare room whilst DS and I were co sleeping

We now have the cot up against my side of the bed with the side off. Tried it out with DS earlier - I lay down next to him and fed him and he was fine. Hope tonight will be ok for him. Will be nice to be sleeping back with DH too

Looby - I second saline nasal drops for snuffles.

Blotted - Phew for swine flu all clear! Do you think you'll get your holiday in the next couple of weeks?

Pula - hope S likes the swing. You'll have to let us know. Pleased to hear you're feeling better too.

Gert2a · 19/07/2009 18:37

We've just booked tickets for the Beautiful Days Festival

We've been for the past 2 years, but had decided not to go this year due to E only being 4 months! We've now booked tickets as we can't bear not to be there!

Are we mad?!

Discuss.

Febes · 19/07/2009 18:56

Gert I am very jealous of you going to that festival have just checked it out on the net and it looks great. I'm sure if you pop DD in a sling, are relaxed about timings and help each other you will all love it!! Not sure if I'd be brave enough as haven't been to a festival before.

euromum · 19/07/2009 21:10

Gert you're not mad, I'm sure the festival will be great! But then I have to think that because I have just bought a ticket to take both kids to Greenbelt festival for 3 days at the end of August, and dh isn't coming with us - I think I was having a moment of insanity but it's all booked now! My parents will be there with a caravan so we'll pitch the tent next to them and hope for the best, and my best friend is coming with us for the drive from Brussels to Cheltenham. Ds will only be 3 months and dd will have just turned 2, but I am finding the whole idea very exciting - she will love it and at least I seem to be rediscovering my sense of adventure. I've always thought that having children shouldn't stop you being yourself and doing daring things, but have to admit this is about the first time I'm really putting that into practice. So anyway, good luck to you, I bet you'll all have a great time .

euromum · 19/07/2009 21:12

Oops forgot to say - I'm also all for saline drops for blocked noses. The suction thing is brilliant too, if a bit gunky. Still, better snot in there than in the nose I reckon.

Gert2a · 19/07/2009 21:42

Euromum I bow down to your sense of adventure!

Completely agree with you about having children not stopping you being yourself. Am really glad we've booked the tickets. If we hadn't we would probably have spent the festival weekend in a darkened room crying and wanting to be there.

Good luck to you too - I just keep telling myself that the worst that can happen is we have to come home early.

Momino · 19/07/2009 22:00

Gert, I'm jealous as well. looks like a good, family-friendly festival. DH and I want to go to Latitude next year with or without the children.

Euro, that sounds fun! Good thing your parents and best friend will be there, otherwise, I'd say you're absolutely mad .

Ses, have fun with your niece and best wishes to your dad.

My dad's birthday is the 20th. he would have been 80,passed away in '96, bless him . he always said the best people were born in July (we both have Jul birthdays ).

nothing much happened today but I had a really nice day with DH and the 3 DDs. I'm just appreciating every moment as it's going by so quickly. I love every cuddle with Harper and her chubby cheeks and kicking legs; i loved holding hands with DD1 as we walked home from the shops in the rain and she was holding her umbrella proudly; i loved dd2's very tight 'bear-hugs' and her bright strawberry blonde hair (where did that come from?) and impish smile.

i'm having one of those i'm-so-lucky days, which happens on the weekend when I've got help from DH so am ever so much more laid back .

hope you all had good weekends as well.

pulapula · 19/07/2009 22:07

Momino - glad you had a nice weekend.

I agree that our LO are growing up quick- S doesn't really look like a newborn anymore.

S wasn't totally convinced by his new swing, but then he was in a grump (due to impending bowel movement) so wasn't happy even when held!. I will try him again tomorrow when he's in a better mood.

Jennster · 19/07/2009 22:22

MominoBelgianBlottedpula (and all those with 3 young children) What do you do for car seats in your vehicles? We have a Touran which DH isn't entirely happy with. It's not high enough spec. The car seats (1 group1 and 2 group2) just fit across the 2 row so all good, but we have been thinking about leasing through DH's business and getting a really nice car. We used to have a Passat estate which was great and have considered an Audi. Luckily we met a friend who has an A6 Avant and discovered the car seats don't flipping well fit! How deceiving can cars be? It's a massive car!

Anyway my question is, which car do you have, and which car seats do you have in which combination.

llareggub · 19/07/2009 22:50

jennster I only have two children but what I can tell you is that I have a Volvo XC90 and have a maxi cosi baby seat and a maxi cosi tobi (I think) in the back. The XC90 has an integral booster seat in the middle so it definitely takes 2 car seats plus a booster in the back. There are another two adult seats in the back so potentially 7 seats and still plenty of boot space!

I cleaned out the boot this morning and pulled out the following:

Quinny Buzz carry cot
Quinny wheels
Quinny Zapp
double air bed
DS's balance bike
DS's scooter
3 coats
3 cardigans
numerous bags and rucksacks
lots of dirty socks (I know not why)
1 black bag of rubbish
2 footballs

I was very embarrassed!

Poor DS has been climbing the walls today due to the rain so in the end we took him out to the park anyway. He loved it but we didn't.

BLW we sort of did it with DS but didn't know it had a name at the time. I did however use Annabel Karmel for meal planners and not puree, though when my MIL was around I did half-heartedly attempt to.

Tummum · 19/07/2009 23:00

Evening all.

DH in foul mood brought on by me objecting to a further 3 hours of Tour de France coverage on the telly, after he spent previous 3 hours watching the stage live. I'm so unreasonable so pretty crap end to the weekend which was supposed to be a treat because my parents were looking after DDs but was a bit of a washout tbh. Sorry. Rant over.

Jenn I have a

Momino · 19/07/2009 23:08

llareggub, we need one of those Volvo's! jennster, we're having the same problem figuring out which car to get. DH currently drives a Volvo estate v50 ithink? it hardly fits our 3 child seats. we currently have an infant rear-facing carrier, and 2x stage 3 (i think) car seats. We put the infant carrier on the end and the two toddler car seats next to each other. Moreover, we need more boot space and somewhere for our dog (!)... we need a massive car, really.

DH drives 140 miles daily to/from work so he's choosing his next car carefully but it's a work car and they don't give him too much choice. He's trying 3 different estates in the next few weeks so I'll let you know what each one is like and what we go for in the end.

OP posts:
Blottedcopybook · 19/07/2009 23:14

Jennster We have a Citroen C8 and we can fit three carseats comfortably in row 2. Each seat is individual so can recline and whatnot independantly we have it set so that the boys are in row 3 in their booster seats and the girls are in row 2 in their carseats with the middle seat free. It's not got a fantastic boot but I can fit the pram in comfortably.

We're actually thinking about selling our car because to be honest we just can't justify how much it is costing us right now. We're £300 a month between the repayment and insurance alone

morning all. just waiting for dd1&2 to wake up. am a bit tired since i went to bed after midnight (couldn't sleep), Harper woke about 4.30 and dd1 woke up at 5 having wet the bed, bless her.

dandy, you must be so relieved the appeal 'adventure' is over. what a lot of extra energy and stress you used.

not much to do this morning but go to the post office to send some ebay items. the hypnotherapy cd sold well but I was diasappointed by the jeans - topshop skinny ones went for £2 and DP ones for 99p.oh, well rhat's how ebay goes i guess, it's better than nothing.

hope everyone has a good day.

Reggiee · 20/07/2009 08:14

Morning all. Haven't been on for a while so just skimmed thread.

Many congrats DANDY on your appeal.

TUMMUM hope dh is a bit more supportive this morning.

LOOBY bet you're pleased/relieved about the poo.

Had a lovely weekend here - was our anniversary so went out on Saturday evening whilst mil babysat and had a lovely time. Also had a bit of retail therapy by getting up at 4.30am and heading to the Next sale. I spent a fortune on clothes for next summer for the dc, and also got things for me and dh.
Couldn't believe it yesterday morning when both children slept in for the longest time ever. What a lovely anniversary present from them .

This last week B has on some days slept "thru" (to after 6am which is when I get up with dd), although he's usually been waking c 5am. This morning he woke up at 3.30am banging his head against the cot bars. Three steps forward two back.

Nothing much planned for this week. Have to take B to the doctors tomorrow to check out his alledged milk intolerance, then after seeing the docs, going to see the nurse for his second set of jabs. Joy. Just what I want - a half hour wait in the doctors surgery between appointments. Who knows what diseases we'll pick up.

Anyone got anything fun planned for this week?

Reggiee · 20/07/2009 08:16

Momi / Pula meant to say am preparing my maternity stuff for EBaying. I'm an Ebay virgin so should be interesting...

flippineck · 20/07/2009 08:26

Morning all! Sorry, not been around all weekend, DH had got in a bit of a grump about how much time I was spending online and not talking to him! Anyway, he's gone to work, A is asleep and DD1 is at the childminder so I've got a few minutes to catch up.

euromum - lovely to see you again!

dandy - not surprised you are feeling a bit drained now, you have been through an awful lot of stuff recently.

momino - Hope you have a moment today to think and remember. Your post was lovely, but you are so right about it being easier to appreciate things when you're not fighting with them all on your own! We had a good weekend not doing much, with some lovely moments; DD1 and A had a bath together last night which was particularly lovely but would be an absolute nightmare on my own.

snuffly noses - we have one of those snot extractor things, it really isn't quite as scary or gross as it looks, and really helps.

festivals - V is our most local festival but we've never been. Latitude is also pretty close and looks great though, I've been wanting to go for a few years, we really should do it.

tummum - TdF been on all weekend here too, fortunately (unfortunately for DH) we don't have Eurosport so we've only been watching what ITV4 have shown which is plenty enough. I have to admit I have been enjoying it quite a lot this year though . DD1 was getting a bit bored of it yesterday afternoon though.

blotted - good news it's not swine flu, but boo about the holiday.

Actually, question about swine flu - are you all carrying on doing normal stuff with your babies and children? We have been, but now I wonder if I'm being irresponsible. I have got some anti-bacterial hand gel stuff but keep forgetting touse it on DD1 and myself. Just carrying it in my bag doesn't help, does it?!

Apologies if I haven't namechecked you - hope everyone is ok!

Nothing much planned here either - I'm just taking A to the chiropractor later, and I promised DH I'd iron his work shirts for him. Also need to go to the bank to open a savings account for A, she's got quite a lot of money which I keep moving (to keep safe!) and mislaying. It's sunny so far, so have got washing out already.

Hope you all have good days, I'll be back later to see what's happening.

flippineck · 20/07/2009 08:29

morning Reggiee! Took so long to type my massive missive that that I missed you.

LoobyLou36 · 20/07/2009 08:58

might go along to the local nappachino morning today

going to pop in to work first to see if there's any money

LoobyLou36 · 20/07/2009 09:11

we're back to mixed feeding here

managed a week with no formula but M started emptying both sides and still cried for more so now give one formula feed at about 7pm

M still snotty so will have to look for saline drops

llareggub · 20/07/2009 09:30

Looby have you considered taking a tribunal claim for the money you are owed?

pulapula · 20/07/2009 10:08

Morning ladies,

I'm impressed with all the name-checking activity!

Jennster- we have a landrover freelander which fits 1 rear-facing and 2 group 3 seats on the back seats and has a reasonably big boot. Although at the moment DD sits in the front and I/DH sit in the back in the middle between DS1 and DS2 when we go on a family outing to put DS2s dummy in and try and calm him when he starts screaming, as he isn't great in the cat yet.

After 3 days with my DH around I am feeling a bit anxious as i have 2 days alone whilst he is in London . Think it's because i feel tired. At least DD is in nursery today and DD/DS1 in nursery tomorrow, but it's a bit strange now there are no playgroups to go to over summer.

Belgianchocolates · 20/07/2009 10:29

Morning all,

Didn't come on here yesterday as I was being a bad mummy and I let the dcs use the computer all day, then once they were in bed DH caught up on the TdF with the ITV player so no computer for me. We haven't got Eurosport either so he has got to survive with just the highlights too. 2 years ago it passed just down the bottom of the road where we were camping, so we saw it live, which was a good experience (but hot and lots of waiting). That very same year it also went passed my parents' house in Belgium, so I got to shout exitedly at the telly (my house! my old school! etc...)

Yesterday I did sort of have a good reason to let the dcs play on the computer all day. DS had twisted his ankle the day before when we went to our new favourite pub with a great beer garden and play area. Anyway ds of course climbed on top of the little play house, jumped off and twisted his ankle. He was limping a bit but seemed OK. On Sunday morning he refused to walk on is and was crying so I had to take him to A&E to get checked over. Luckily nothing was broken (I didn't think it was anyway). I did have visions of him being in a plaster cast just days before leaving.

Looby I also second those saline drops. Oh and of the groups around where you live. There are no sling meets or nappachinos around here, even though it's not as if we're in the country or anything around here.

Blotted phew on the swine flu and thanks for the red mite tip. We've go something called diaton powder on the way though, but if that doesn't do the trick we'll try that. We haven't had any eggs of our poor chooks for 3 weeks now. I felt so guilty about not picking up on the mites earlier, poor things were terrified about being locked in at night

momino I've had dissapointing sales in the past too. I remember selling this buggy once and it had lots of watchers so I tought it would go well, in the end it only went for the starting bid. You just never know like you said.
reggie nice to hear you've had a lovely anniversary.

flippin we're carrying on as normal here.

cars We've got a Zafira, so we can have 1 on the back row and 2 on the middle row. It just makes the boot quite small. DH has got a ford escort estate and there they do fit next to eachother as it's a touch wider.

Well, no real plans for the day here. I think it's mainly going to be laundry (again, still catching up) and a bit of packing as we're leaving on wednesday.
