purpleflower - I have that first chair - in black. It was on clearance at bentalls clearance store a few months ago. We LOVE LOVE LOVE it! EASY as pie to clean and Q loves it as it's not too restrictive. Only thing is not a big tray, but we have a very small place and we actually think it looks quite cool in our living room instead of being an eyesore (ahem,... as if anything for babies could ever be an eyesore,... I know....)

jenwa · 29/06/2009 20:55

loulou oh no, you should not feel like that, I feel bad now about mentioning bathtime etc on my own but you have your DH to help you so tahts good and my dh is about to help but if not I just do it and you know I am sooo anal about things and doing them in my own way that I like doing it by myself as things go back where they belong etc You are not at all a bad mum in anyway, you have had so much stuff going on recently with your DC's CP and going back to work and the BF issue, you are totally allowed to feel like poo . If it is any help re the BF, DD takes formula but is not really interested at the mo as likes her food too much so she has dropped her milk alot so maybe that is what Joe is doing (seeing he is like it with the formula too) Maybe try sticking to BF and see how you go then you know that you have done what you want and that him giving up at some point is his choice (if that makes you feel better) but I think it is common for them to not take so much whilst there is food and other daily life stuff going on to occupy them You are prob tired too having to get up with him early and also working , just dont feel guilty and I am sure your DH is coping ok. Have you talked to him about it?
Phoebe snacks on anything, those organix crips are fab, rice cakes too or those finger biscuits for kids too. Otherwise fruit or bread or toast. Yoghurt is another but P likes to feed herself so anything she can get her hads on, sausages are fab! She will even eat the crusts of DD1's sandwiches so thats helpful

Put P to bed tonight and because we lowered the cot we had to remove the bumper as it was not fitting well (to be honest its an ikea cot and a mothercare bumper so never was brill) and she got her legs stuck out the side she was on her tummy with her legs sticking out and we had to pull her out (me and DH)! She was in bits poor thing but I cant put it back on as not safe, she was sticking her head under it and pulling it about so thought it was safer off! Hopefully she will get used to it!

myjob pics are fab and glad you and ronshar had a nice day.

Thanks for the kind words - and no Jenwa don't feel bad about mentioning bathtime - its not you its me and all that!!!

Joe's really funny about fruit - blueberries make him pull a face as do strawberries....will try pear tomorrow i think. He refused to even try an organix carrot crisp - too hard i think but he loved yorkshire pudding tonight and managed to eatr the whole piece without me interfering...he drank all his milk tonight but refused the breast first though so maybe the non-milk thing was due to cp and feeling a bit crummy...will try to offer breast tommorrow morning but i am determined not to get too hung up on it as he may

Aubergenie - will try the scones this weekend - i still have some scone mix left (the bag i bought makes 150 scones ffs so i think there might be enough left. The muffins may have to wait as dh has decided his hates squash now - cheers then.

I am utterly knackered and have jsut finished making tea for tommorrow night (lasagne). DH doesn't cook but i don't get home from work until just after tea so i need to prepare tea the night before. The slow cook er has been great but getting bored of stew already!!

We are in the midst of digital tv switchover here and Channel 4 not working now as well as bbc 2 so no BB10 for me tonight, maybe i should go to bed instead

jenwa · 29/06/2009 21:16

loulou P had yorkshire pud too and loved it Glad he drank his milk and agree to try tomorrow but dont feel stressed. Just try to relax (easier said then done I know) We were going to have lasange too but ended up with pasta as was the stuffed sort which just needed sauce adding to it. We were too tired to cook. I am not sure I could do the making it the day before, DH always changes his mind what he wants and may not be as hungry one day to the next Do like lasagne though and mine are yummy if I say so myself Would your DH not put somehting in over ready for when you come home?

loulou33 · 29/06/2009 21:38

Yeah - he's putting the lasagne in the oven he reckons that counts as cooking.....i ask him what he wants for dinner but tbh if i have to cook, he gets little say in the matter

he can do baked spuds and stuff like that but he struggles to cook with 2 children in tow - i know there's a theme emerging here in the loulou household of not coping with 2 children . Joe gets very hungry by about 4.30 and needs carrying around so cooking is tough on your own (although i manage most of the time but i am used to it)...dh neds to be able to concentrate on cooking so needs no distraction so its easier for me to do it the night before.

aubergenie · 29/06/2009 21:51

I'm glad Joe had his milk this evening. Fingers crossed the BFing will go well too.

I can't remember loulou - are you veggies in your house? If not, we've been doing some great non-stew chicken dishes in our slow cooker. Tandoori chicken was yum, and garlic/lemon chicken too. You just have to marinate the meat for a few hours and throw it in. It's been great because we've been using the cheaper bits like legs and thighs which has meant we can afford organic.

aubergenie · 29/06/2009 21:53

Oh and Ronshar and Myjob, glad you had a great day today. Nice pictures!

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/06/2009 22:03

We made fish pie in the slow cooker on Saturday - yum!

ronshar · 29/06/2009 22:10

Evening everyone.
Loulou. You are doing a fab job. It is really hard work going out to work when you have two children. That is why I eventually gave up altogether. I was a crap mummy, very shouty and no patience at all. (not sure of the difference now mind you). Have you thought about maybe only keeping the bedtime feed? Both of my DDs dropped their milk around the 9 month point. I struggled to get much in at all. FF mind you! By the first b'day they only had milk on their breakfast!

Myjob. Thank you so much for a lovely day. I pulled up just as DD came around the corner from school. H said she had the best day as well.
Does that make us a quiche? I like a nice cheese one

Honeymoonmummy · 29/06/2009 22:24

Hi all, I know I sound like a broken record but I'm off to bed so can't stay! Just a quick one to say we've just realised Poppy's cut a second tooth! So that along with the cold and cough explains why the sleepless nights and the irritable moods. Fingers crossed she'll soon settle down again! Took her to doc this morning as bit concerned she has a chesty cough, doc said "she's a bit of a wriggler isn't she?" Hell yeah!!! Anyway, she's fine according to doc, just a virus, her lungs are clear.

She's started to cry when we take toys etc away from her or don't give them to her. How have the rest of you handled this? Are you starting to say "no" for certain behaviours?

ronshar · 29/06/2009 22:28

Hmm. You should be in bed already
I do say no to W. But very rarely as it will become meaningless. I tend to make a sound like u oh, if you can undertand what I mean. W stops what he is doing, looks at me smiling and carries on regardless! Pesky older sisters teaching him bad habits already.

Yay the tennis is brilliant. How can I go to bed?

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/06/2009 22:28

I say no when he grabs and scratches at my face or pulls my hair hard, but that's about it so far. With dd I was determined to practice positive parenting (don't say 'no', but reinforce good behaviours instead eg 'why don't you pull at this teddy bear's leg instead of poking my eyes out you sharp fingernailed poking maniac'), but the idea soon wore off!

OP posts:
ronshar · 29/06/2009 22:37

Ah yes positive parenting! I read about that. So far it seems to have passed me by.
Did I say that I also said no really loudly this morning when W bit down really really hard while pulling back on my nipple. Little monkey made me cry real actual tears.

Marthasmama · 29/06/2009 22:44

Hello, I have been lurking but M has been such a moody girl today that I have been pretty grumpy. Plus I wrote a reply to Loulou and then the internet broke again so I lost it all.

Loulou - I said pretty much what everyone else said! Except, I can't handle my two very well and I don't work! In fact M was such a pain today that I couldn't even handle just her on my own! DH had to take her for a walk to get her to calm down. You'll have to work something out with J, I know how frustrating it can be when they won't pay attention long enough to nurse. I have to feed M upstairs in the dark these days and even then she turns round, looks at the door and calls her daddy. What ever you do, I am sure it will be the best thing for all of you. Don't feel bad about not bfing him, he's not exactly making life easy for you is he?

Aubergenie - Hurrah! I am going to nick those recipes too. I got DH the Leon cookbook for Father's Day so I am going to try out the chocolate brownie. Mmmmmmmmmm

Myjob & Ronshar - Those pictures of W and N are lovely, W has such long legs! Glad you had a lovely day. Maybe we should try and have a meet up around the first birthdays, I'll be back on my feet by then!

Hmm - Awww, she's started being a little madam has she? M is terrible for throwing wobblers about toys. It is mostly to do with her big brother taking toys away from her. I tend to distract her with other things: so take the thing she's not allowed away while waving something shiny in front of her. I mostly let her have whatever she wants as it makes for an easy life. Unless of course it's dangerous.

M has been terrible today. She had a 45 minute screaming fit when I tried to put her down for her nap. I was cuddling her, feeding her, shushing her and she just kept fighting me. I gave her medicine, A & P powders and teething gel, but nothing!!! She eventually gave in when DH took her for a walk, but then we had a repeat performance at dinner time! And then the worst poo ever.... Still no sign of any teeth breaking through though.

ronshar · 29/06/2009 23:01

You poor thing. Teeth and heat, a nightmare for you all. Lucky DH was home for you.
I'm sure tomorrow will be better.
W is up. Monkey. Hopefully this means he may sleep tonight!
Night night.

KSal · 30/06/2009 09:40

Thanks aubergenie! gthis time is have copied them onto my hard drive!

KSal · 30/06/2009 10:03

flippin eck. I can't type

CSWS have you been to woodside farm near markyate? i went past it the other day and was considering it for a day out...

Marthasmama · 30/06/2009 10:03

Ouch! Bloody pincer grasp is now being used to pinch. How on earth do you stop a nearly 9 month old from pinching? When I tell her no she just laughs and does it again. I've started putting her down on the floor away from me when she does it, let's hope it works!

aubergenie · 30/06/2009 11:12

We've got the pinching thing here too, MM. Agony isn't it. I've got no idea what to do either. Every time I say no S thinks it's really funny.

aubergenie · 30/06/2009 11:22

CSWS - Can you talk me through your slow cooker fish pie recipe?

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/06/2009 12:04

KSal - yes, we had annual passes for there when dd was little, but it's surprisingly expensive for a little place so we haven't renewed. It is lovely when they are little and you don't want anywhere huge though. There's a nice bird bit to walk through, and a few other animals to see - rabbits, squirrel monkeys, goats etc. You can have a little ride on the tractor trailer, and there's a soft play bit which is nice, although the baby bit is upstairs, so you need to leave your buggy unattended. There's also a big sandpit, and some ride on tractors and some trampolines which are great once they are a bit older.

Willows Farm (London Colney/St Albans) is another similar place that I'd recommend too. And we have annual passes for Whipsnade, because I think that their passes are good value (you only need to go 3 times a year to cover the cost, whereas with Woodside I think it was about 6).

Aubergenie - slow cooker fish pie:

350g skinned haddock fillet
30ml cornflour
175g sweetcorn (tinned or defrosted frozen)
115g defrosted frozen peas
115g cooked prawns
115g cream cheese (we substituted toffuti soft 'cheese')
150ml milk (oat milk worked fine)
15g wholemeal breadcrumbs (I upped this a little)
50g grated cheddar

Cut haddock to bitesize. Mix with cornflour to coat. Add corn, peas, prawns and mix. Separately mix cream cheese and milk, season and pour over fish. Stir well. Put in slow cooker on high for 2 hours.
Mix breadcrumbs and cheese, and when the 2 hours is up, sprinkle this over the top of the pie and brown under a grill for 5 mins.

Thanks CSWS.

DP is having lunch in Wagamama and apparently Philip and Kate from the Apprentice are on the next table. Her teeth are just as white in real life apparently.
