Good luck at work tomorrow hmm.
I haven't changed any routines due to swine flu. You can't hide from bugs all of your life. Obviously hoping we don't catch it though. There is one child suspected of having it at dd's school, as well as one parent.

Thanks pistachio.

Oh and I want to move to the "next level" with Poppy's eating, the chewiest thing she's had so far is crumpets yesterday and today which she LOVED! Had nearly 2 today spread with mashed banana and the only bit she didn't eat was what she dropped!

I haven't given her any meat on it's own yet, she has had fish tho which she will eat. What's a good meat to start with, maybe liver? [bleugh emoticon]

Honeymoonmummy · 16/07/2009 21:02

True CSWS and that was my thinking, but then my dad came to the Puddle Ducks class today and afterwards he was saying he was surprised I'd taken her because of the swine flu. And altho he has depression and anxiety himself he's usually pretty laid-back about these things.

Did anyone see the news about the little 2 year old boy who lost his legs to meningitis but has walked down the aisle at his parents wedding? So sweet. Makes you feel very lucky (touch wood).

Hi HMM- good to hear from you and good luck for work tomorrow. I'm not too worried about swine flu at the moment either, am adopting the what will be will be approach. I'm a bit sceptical about it and not sure at the moment that it's any worse than normal flu. Obv I wouldn't knowingly put ds in contact with a person with swine flu but I'm not hiding away. Have been into School today and apparently they have a lot of kids off sick and one confirmed case. Also MIL is panicking as her niece has had it and she saw her before it was confirmed. She is supposed to be having ds on Monday so I can do a contact day and is paranoid she'll have caught it, doubt it as she saw her neice a week after she had had it but before her swab results came.

I bet we get it now after me being so flippant

RachieW · 16/07/2009 21:46

Ok massive thunder storm here and ds is sound asleep. All good stuff however how can he sleep through thunder but wake up at the creek of a floorboard when I went for a wee last night?

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/07/2009 23:10

bleurgh. Just cleaned up and resettled ds, as he threw up again in his bed.

Honeymoonmummy · 16/07/2009 23:20

It's scary MyJob isn't it? I'm sure it'll be fine tho. Rachie, you asked about the postnatal DVD. It's pretty easy TBH, I wouldn't bother buying it at this stage (unless you're planning to have more, because it includes a pregnancy workout)

CSWS -

star6 · 17/07/2009 07:24

csws - sorry about all the vomit. what do yout hink it is?

Rachie I know what you mean, Q sleeps through everything but me moving around.

Good luck today HMM! Will Poppy stay with DH?

Myjob I'm sure it will be fine. I hope you all stay healthy!! I read a post earlier about some woman talking about buying "swine flu masks from a man in london" I had to lol.

Rachie - that's just it, I know friendships change w/ a baby but she is the one who looks after Q while I was at work. She loves him and is/was just as absorbed with his daily life as I was. It's just so sudden is all. What bothers me most is that before she started seeing other guys she said "I'm not going to put my friends aside for a man ever again, I did taht to much with dh".
It's fine. She wants to have lunch today... but I know it's just to fit me in and say she's done it so she doesnt feel badly iyswim.

csws - problems with dh are fixable, he's just stressed I think, too and often says things he doesn't mean... and I'm really sensitive

star6 · 17/07/2009 07:39

that
and
too much
ugh! typos

purpleflower · 17/07/2009 09:03

Well DS has his glasses on, he keeps pulling them up on to his forehead though and looking under them. It's really sweet and he is still gorgeous but he looks so different

So sorry about the sick CSWS, I hope they feel better soon.

Star, thats for you with your friend. I think when it all settles down it will change again, if it's a new relationship they are still in the honeymoon stage.

Good luck tomorrow HMM

I'm really not sure what to think about this swine flu. TBH I'm not really worried yet but then there aren't many cases here. One of the very first ones was down the road but there hasn't been too much since.

RachieW · 17/07/2009 09:18

Had a horrendous night for us here. Firstly after my swine flu blaise-ness I then read loads of MN swine flu friends. Really wish I hadn't and wouldn't recommend it. Then we tried not giving ds his 11pm feed as he was sound asleep, he was then awake at 12, at 2 (I fed him then), I was then awake until nearly 4 fretting about swine flu and other random things, then he was awake at 5. Dh ended up taking him into the spare room when he was getting ready for work and then he did go back to sleep with me in bed for a bit.

Star- It sounds really hard with your friend, espec if she is the one that looks after Q. It seems that she is making her old mistake again with putting blokes first. Maybe you could broach the subject again at lunch? I'm glad things with dh are fixable, if it makes you feel any better mine is a right pig when he's stressed.

CSWS- Hope the vomit ended with your last post but have a feeling you won't have been that lucky

HMM- Thanks for giving me excuses not to get the Davina dvd

Purple- So sweet about ds glasses, it must be really hard for him to get used to wearing them. Do they have a band round his head? I can't even keep a sun hat on ds so I'm wishing you good luck. I bet he looks adorable in them

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/07/2009 09:28

Actually there hasn't been any vomit since then Rachie, but the nappy I just changed was nearly enough to make me sick!

Dd is bright and perky, but hasn't really eaten anything yet. A quiet day planned, though dd is already moaning about not seeing her friends.

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 17/07/2009 10:12

you've all been very chatty ladies! Sorry to hear about sickly babies, grumpy dhs, neglectful friends and swine flu worries! I just had a visit from a very tired dh and M. She hardly slept all night and they both looked totally knackered. Ds got very upset last night when they went home bless him. I'm not getting out until Sunday although I feel absolutely fine. I feel much better than I did when I was sent home with M! I am so bored.

Aubergenie - I was thinking just this morning that I really should get some arnica. I'll ask my mum to get me some.

Hope everyone has a good day, it's hard keeping up with everything on an iPhone!

For star, from aitch's blog:

View Article Rowan's sticky cereal bars
by Aitch on Sat 31 Mar 2007 00:42 BST
She's been on a quest, ladies and gentlemen, and now she's back. Presenting Rowan's cereal bars...

"After my appeal many moons ago for cereal bars I found this recipe, very
sticky, very gooey, and it has fruit, carbs, protein and calcium in it,
so sometimes this is all Munch has for lunch!
Makes about 9 or 10

75g oats
65g sugar (white is fine, brown adds a nice caramelly flavour) 40g raisins or mixed raisins/sultanas/dried cranberries 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 large mashed banana
30ml skim milk
1 egg white
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix first 6 ingredients together. Separately beat together wet
ingredients, pour over dry ingredients and mix well.
Pour into lined tin and bake for 25-30 mins at GM4, 175C.
Leave to cool and then cut into bars.

Keep in airtight tin for 2 or 3 days max."

This is the banana cake recipe I was thinking of aubergenie:
View Article Franny's Fab and Healthy Banana Cake

She's on a mission to healthify the world, this woman...

"Fab and Healthy Banana cake

4 oz self raising wholemeal flour
half tsp mixed spice
2 oz butter
3 oz raisins
8 oz banana
1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 180 / gm 4.

Mix flour and spice, rub in butter and stir in raisins. In a separate bowl, mash the banana and egg. Stir into the flour mixture and put into a well-greased tin (fills a small loaf tin I think or I usually double up the quantities and put it in an 8" circular cake tin). Turn oven down to GM 3 / 160 C and cook on the middle shelf for 1 hour or until cooked.

I usually cover it with a mixture of philadelphia cream cheese and fruit spread (about 2 parts cream cheese to one part fruit spread / jam). I blend them together in the liquidiser. However it is good just by itself as well."

Might have to try this one as well:
View Article Franny's Virtuous Muffins
by Aitch on Sun 25 Mar 2007 21:42 BST
Franny is a bit of a lentil-weaver and I happen to know she consumes an inordinate amount of quinoa but these muffins nevertheless sound like they might actually taste nice...

Muffins

8oz wholemeal s-r flour
pinch cinnamon
pinch nutmeg
2oz chopped pecans (These are nice in the adult version, leave them out for a baby, or put in ground almonds for an older child who you know is not nut allergic)
2 oz desiccated coconut
6 oz grated carrots
6 oz grated apple
3 oz chopped dates (You'll have to use your own skill and judgement here re choking. Maybe leave them out if the pincer grip hasn't developed, maybe chop them up really small. You'll know what's best)
2 beaten eggs
4 fl oz sunflower oil
1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix all dry ingredients in one bowl and all wet in another, then combine and mix thoroughly. Spoon into muffin cases and put on a baking tray. Bake for 20 mins at 180 / GM 4.

And a lentil recipe for star

View Article Alison's Lentil and Cheese Wedges
by Aitch on Sat 10 Mar 2007 00:42 GMT
Again, I know this blog is coming across a bit pulsetastic but as it happens we do eat a lot of them. And you have to admit, these cheesy wedges do sound delicious.

"Another lentil recipe for you - v popular with LittleE (and her daddy too - surprisingly!!)

8 oz red lentils
3/4 pint water
1 large onion
1 oz butter
4 oz grated cheese
1 tsp mixed herbs
1 egg
1 oz breadcrumbs
salt & pepper - for adults!!

Cook the lentils in the water until soft, and all the liquid is absorbed
Chop the onion finely and fry in the butter until soft.
Combine all the ingredients and press into an oiled 9" tin.
Bake at Gas 5 for around 30 minutes.
Allow to cool slightly then cut into wedges

These might be even tastier with a bit of garlic in?"

Hi all

Sorry just a quick one as going to bed early for next sale in the morning

rachie yes hearing bad, got a high frequency loss so suffer with not hearing certain sounds and am thinking it may be worse or could just be me stressing about going back to work!
aubergenie yes have 2 hearing aids and hate wearing htem, have private ones now, they are discreet ish but still don like them and have totally lost all my confidence and hate socialising now .
this is what I have! mine are the silver ones!

Work is ok, I am just stressed about hearing really so if that was not a prob it would be ok, need to talk to my boss really. Just hate it and want it to be better really!

star sorry about your friend, I am sure she is just sooo excited about her new man and because she sees you most days with Q she prob feels thats ok iuswim, maybe you 2 should go out together one day /eve and spend some quality time as maybe she has not seen you away from q to have a good old chat (not that she cant with q off course jsut maybe difficult as she also looked after him whilst you were working) I hope that makes sense and not menat in any bad way just maybe it would be nice for you two to catch up together one time.

csws hope the bugs are going in your house.

mm glad you ok but sorry ds is upset. Hope you can escape earlier! How is little M doing?

aubergenie · 17/07/2009 20:36

Nice recipes! That lentil one reminds me of something my mum used to make. I think I'll give it a try.

About the calcium in the oatmilk CSWS. I think oats provide some calcium already but I'd forgotten that they add it as well. I'm sure if you were going to make it on a regular basis there must be some sort of calcium supplement from the health food shop that you could add. it came out fine, by the way. It'll be useful to make when we're in France for a month with no access to any.

Jenwa - that you're so lacking in confidence. A good friend of mine wears a hearing aid and I was amazed when she got it how discreet it was. She finds it difficult when there's a lot of background noise, say in a busy pub as she says that so much of the sound is amplified, it's difficult to follow what the person next to you is saying.

Star - I agree with Jenwa about your friend. Could you and your friend have an evening together just the two of you?

Well, I picked up the dress my friend bought for me from the Monsoon sale. Half price. Now I've got my outfit sorted for dp's brother's wedding next week.

aubergenie · 17/07/2009 20:37

Oh and CSWS - I forgot to say I hope the LOs are getting better now.
